Joseph Leicht
RINGGOLD, Va. - Joseph Leicht, 56, of 162 Mt. Hill Road, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002 in Jackson, Ohio.
Born March 10, 1946, in Austria, he was the son of Nikolaus Christian Leicht and Magdalena Bogner Leicht, both deceased.
He died suddenly from a heart attack while in Jackson, Ohio. He worked as an instrument fitter for H.B. Zachary Company of San Antonio, Texas. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. He was of the Full Gospel faith. He and his wife and child made Danville, Va. their home since 1990. He was a loving and caring husband and father. He married Ethel Ann Weeks Leicht April 30, 1982.
He is survived by one son, Christopher Nikolaus Leicht, of the residence; four brothers, Stefan Leicht of Austria, Chris Leicht of Galion, Ohio, Nikolaus Leicht and Pete Leicht, both of Mansfield, Ohio; and two sisters, Katherine Ries and Ann Bohland, both of Mansfield, Ohio.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Jones and the Rev. Leo Wiles officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 Thursday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel. At other times they will be at the residence.

James 'Plut' Clarence Lipscomb
RALEIGH, N.C. - James "Plut" Clarence Lipscomb, 55, of 2520 Garner Road, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002 in the Rex Hospital.
Born Feb. 24, 1947, in Caswell County, he was the son of Hubert Lipscomb and Gladys Lea Lipscomb.
He joined Hamer Missionary Baptist Church in Blanch, N.C. at an early age and was a graduate of Caswell County High School.
He was an employee for the State Department in Raleigh.
He was married to Ruth T. Lipscomb. In addition to his wife, of the residence, and his mother, he is survived by five daughters, Gloria L. Oliver of Blanch, Vivian Lipscomb of Yanceyville and Kristie Lipscomb, Camilla Lipscomb and Tiffney Lipscomb, all of Raleigh; two sons, James Lipscomb Jr of Yanceyville and Christopher Lipscomb of Raleigh; five brothers, William Lipscomb of Maryland, Rev. Eugene Lipscomb of Blanch, Major Lipscomb of Providence, N.C., Henry Clarence Lea of Montgomery, Ala. and John Lea of Yanceyville, N.C.; four sisters, Mrs. Carol Williamson of Yanceyville, N.C., Virginia Mason of Greensboro, N.C., Denise Dobson of Dobson, N.C. and Cassandra Dobson of Pinacle, N.C.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cephus Lea officiating. Interment will be in Hamer Baptist Church Cemetery. The body may be viewed 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel.

Linda Lee Mikeal
DANVILLE, Va. - Linda Lee Mikeal, 62, of 337 Wrenn Drive, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center after being in declining health for several years.
Born August 13, 1940, in Charlotte, N.C., she was the daughter of A.B. Mikeal and Barbara McRorie Mikeal.
She had lived in Florence, S.C. prior to moving to Danville in March of 1993, where she was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by two daughters, Debra M. Tawney of Danville and Crystal M. Hinson of Arizona; two sons, Michael Bowers of Florence, S.C. and Harold E. Miles of Columbus, Ga; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by one sister, Patricia Ann Windham. The funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. The family will receive friends at the residence.

Robert Bishop Morton
ROXBORO, N.C. - Robert Bishop Morton, 51, of 470 Morton Pulliam Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at Duke University Medical Center.
Born in 1951, in Person County, he was a son of Errol DeWitt Morton Jr. and Helen Carico Morton.
He graduated from Emory & Henry College and received his Master's Degree in Administration from UNCG. He was a retired teacher and assistant principal for twenty-seven and a half years.
He was an avid outdoorsman and gardener. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher, the fundraising chairperson of the Building Fund Committee and Ham Supper, as well as the Administrative Council. He married Rena Rogers Morton.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, and his mother, of Roxboro, he is survived by one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Morton of Wilmington; one son, Nicholas Garrett Morton, of the home; one brother, Sonny Morton of Danville; and one sister, Patricia M. Wrenn, of Roxboro.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Concord United Methodist Church by the Rev. Randy Blanchard and the Rev. Andi Woodhouse. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Concord United Methodist Church.

George William Pruitt
DANVILLE, Va. - George William Pruitt, 87, formerly of 202 Stevens Street, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Sept. 17, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Jonah Pruitt and Mentora Bennett Pruitt.
He had worked as a loom fixer for Dan River, Inc. He was of the Baptist faith.
He married Susie Viola Barbour Pruitt on Nov. 9, 1935. She predeceased him in May 1974.
He is survived by one son, David William Pruitt of Danville; three daughters, Louise Story of Lexington, N.C., Betty Rowland of Danville and Carolyn Smithers of Providence, N.C.; one sister, Ruby Palmer of Michigan; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by four brothers, Russell Pruitt, McKinley Pruitt, Gary Pruitt and Wilmer Pruitt; and one sister, Lottie Pruitt Burchett.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Neil Isom officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills.

Frank Saunders
DANVILLE, Va. - Eugene Franklin (Frank) Saunders Sr, 81, of 403 Kemper Road, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002 in Danville Regional Medical Center after being in declining health for several years and in the hospital for the last 5 days.
Born April 9, 1921, in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of Arthur Saunders and Nannie Rice Saunders, both deceased.
He had lived in Caswell County prior to moving to Danville in 1955. He was a graduate of the former Cobb Memorial High School in Caswell County. He had retired from Dan River Inc. where he worked in the Sample Department of the Research Division. He was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church, where he had formerly served as church treasurer and deacon. He served with the U. S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater of operations in the 32nd Division, Cannon Company, 127th infantry where he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal.
He married Myrtle Robertson Saunders on Nov. 23, 1946.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by two sons, Eugene (Gene) F. Saunders Jr. and wife Belinda, Daniel (Danny)Wayne Saunders and wife Belinda of Blue Ridge, Va.; two sisters, Rosa S. Hamlett of Danville and Viola S. Wray of Eden, N.C.; three granddaughters, Summer S. Milligan and husband Knox of Danville, Jenna Kelly Saunders and Jodie Kendall Saunders, both of Blue Ridge, Va.; and one grandson, Jake Kyle Saunders of Blue Ridge, Va.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Lee Saunders and Russell Saunders; and three sisters, Nettie S. Thompson, Bessie S. Garrison and Elizabeth Paschal.
The funeral will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Reaves officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors by Dan River American Legion Post #1097.

Pamyla Francine Tillman
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Pamyla Francine Tillman, 45, of 2150 Union Grove Road, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at her home.
Born June 25, 1957, in Houston, Texas, she was the daughter of Jesse Tillman Jr. and Lenora Perkins.
She was an equipment operator for Dollar General Corp.
In addition to her mother, of Channelview, Texas, she is survived by one daughter, Heather Sholars of South Boston; two sons, Jason Bowden of Texas and Jesse Carswell of Harris Co., Texas; one sister, Cindy Gallagher and one brother, Jesse Tillman.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating.

Lorraine Tucker
RINGGOLD, Va. - Opal Lorraine Tucker, 70, of 473 Cedar Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 in Danville Regional Medical Center after being in declining health for the past 6 months and in the hospital for one day.
Born Feb. 11, 1932, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Willie Daniel Marshall and Sarah Clark Marshall.
She had lived most of her life in the Mountain Hill Community of Pittsylvania County.
She was a graduate of Dan River High School Class of 1950.
She had retired from Dan River, Inc. where whe worked in the Knit division as a lab technician with over 30 years of service.
She was a member of Floral Hills United Methodist Church, a member of the Airport Sunshine Ladies Club and a member of the Mountain Hill Ladies Auxiliary.
She married Arlie Garrett Tucker on August 26, 1950. He predeceased her on May 19, 1994.
She is survived by one son, Keith Garrett Tucker of Ringgold; four daughters, Kathy T. Hammack of Richmond, Va., Karen T. McGuire of Ringgold, Kerri T. Burchett of Danville and Kaye T. Whitt of Ringgold; one brother, Carl E. (Billy) Marshall of Danville; two sisters, Faye M. Peele of Pelham, N.C. and Martha M. Booth of Danville; and eight grandchildren.

Don Loring Tyler Sr.
GRETNA, Va. - Don L. Tyler Sr., age 66, of 320 Vaden Drive, Gretna, died Monday, December 16, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 30, 1936, in Lee County, Va., he was a son of Estelle Ironmonger Tyler of Gretna and the late Kenneth Scott Tyler Sr. He was predeceased by a son, Howard Scott Tyler. Don was the co-owner and operator of Tyler Flower Shop until 1992 when he retired due to health problems. Mr. Tyler was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gretna, a life member of the Gretna Volunteer Fire Department, an associate member of the Gretna Lions Club, a past member of the Altavista Rotary Club, past president of the Pittsylvania Fire Association and served on the Danville/Pittsylvania County Chapter X Board.
He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Dell Midkiff Tyler, a son, Don Tyler, Jr. and his wife Jo Ann; a daughter, Lisa D. Tyler of Gretna; a brother, K. Scott Tyler, Jr. and his wife Anna of Keswick; three grandchildren, Catherine Tyler, Jonathan Tyler and Charlie Tyler.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2002 at the First Baptist Church of Gretna by Rev. Glenn Graves and Rev. R.G. Rowland. Interment will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

Joseph "Joe" Jackson Wilson
AXTON, Va. - Joseph "Joe" Jackson Wilson, 75, of 1905 Axton Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in Martinsville Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 21, 1927, in Henry County, he was the son of Ben Wilson and Carrie Higgs Wilson Lawson.
He owned and operated Wilson Tire Retreading, Axton; was self-employed in television repair service and in earlier years he was employed by V. M. Draper for 14 years.
He attended Aiken Summit Wesleyan Church. He was with the U.S. Navy in World War II. He married Opal Spencer Wilson.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by two daughters, Yvonne W. Pack and Donna W. Ortega, both of Martinsville; one son, Michael D. Wilson of Midlothian; one sister, Parnell Gravely of Axton; and six grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three brothers, John Wilson, Ben Wilson and David Wilson; and one sister, Mazie Dickerson.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Norris Funeral Services Chapel, with the Rev. Joe Shockley and the Rev. R.T. Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

Ethel Hopkins Adams
DANVILLE, Va. - Ethel Hopkins Adams, 85, of 1948 River Ridge Road, died Nov. 15, 2002, at Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge.
Born Oct. 3, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of William Henry Hopkins and Mary Susie Gravely Hopkins.
She was employed at American Furniture Company - Red Level Plant for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Mt. Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church where she served as one of the Church Mothers.
She was married to Zechariah T. Adams, who predeceased her.
She is survived by four daughters, Lottie Hayes of the residence, Rosylind Fitz of Danville, the Rev. Pauline Couch and Barbara Spence, both of Pleasantville, N.J.; two sons, Andrew Adams of Dale City and Ronald Adams of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Eva H. Thomas of Charlottesville; two brothers, Daniel G. Hopkins of Danville and Robert E. Hopkins of Perris, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. George Gable Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Catherine Walton Hall
DANVILLE, Va. - Catherine Walton Hall, 77, of 2880 Dodson Drive, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after eight years of declining health.
Born Sept. 22, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Frank T. Walton and Sallie Slayton Walton.
She had lived her entire life in the Danville area and was a homemaker. She had previously worked for Dan River Mills in the No. 4 Gray Inspections at the Schoolfield division. She was a member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church. She was the last survivor of her generation.
She married Robey E. Hall on July 27, 1946.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by a daughter, Kathy Hall Hahn of Powder Springs, Ga.; an adopted son, Randy Walton Hall; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was predeceased by a brother, Bobby Walton; and a sister, Erma Hellman.
The graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. David Lefon officiating.
