Mildred D. Fuller
RICHMOND, Va. - Mildred D. Fuller, 83, of Richmond, passed away Jan. 17, 2003.
She was predeceased by her parents, a sister and three brothers. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and a devoted friend, Hazel Ashworth.
Mrs. Fuller was a veteran of the Women's Army Corps. She retired from Coca-Cola with 32 years of service, was president of the Greater Richmond Bowling Association for 10 years and was president of the Virginia State Bowling Association for 21 years.
Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. Sunday. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Monday in Danville Memorial Gardens, Danville, Va.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
Naomi H. Holley
CHATHAM, Va. - Naomi Herndon Holley, 81, Route 6, Chatham, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Oct. 3, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert Clifton Herndon and the late Eva Herndon Herndon.
On June 12, 1937, she married Henry Morris Holley, who is now deceased, and spent her entire life in the Whitmell community of Pittsylvania County. She was a homemaker, a member of the Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church, a choir member, Ladies Auxiliary member and was active with the American Heart Association.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Ernie Dilworth Jr. of Danville, Sandra and David Yeatts of Altavista, Bonita and Johnnie Dodd of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Phyliss Holley, Terry and Pam Holley, all of Chatham; five sisters, Marjorie Doss, Iris Barker, Mabel Toon, Viola Toon and Audrey Landrum; six brothers, Robert Herndon Jr., Joseph Herndon, Herbert Herndon, Charles Herndon, Dodd Herndon and Larry Herndon; five grandchildren, Robin Holley, Kim Hammock, Holly Yeatts, David Yeatts II and Maurisa Holley; two great-grandchildren, LeAnn Yeatts and Shawn Hammock.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dexter L. Holley; one sister, Eva Ruth Herndon and one brother, Ralph Herndon.
The funeral will be conducted Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at 2 p.m. from Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Dry Fork, by the Reverend Kenneth Terry. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church immediately after the burial.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Dry Fork Women's Ministries of the Swansonville Women's Ministries.

Frances Pruitt Jefferson
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Frances Pruitt Jefferson, 76, of the Brian Center, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at the center.
Born Feb. 23, 1926, in Leaksville, she was the daughter of James Richard Pruitt and Lizzie Powell Pruitt.
She was a member of Westover Baptist Church. She had worked as a clerk for Dan River, Inc.
She is survived by two sons, James R. Jefferson of Providence, N.C. and Ronnie R. Jefferson of Pelham, N.C.; a daughter, Bonnie G. Baines of Danville, Va.; a sister, Maggie Pruitt of Danville, Va.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by eight sisters and three brothers.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Happy Home Congregational Christian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Hall officiating.

DANVILLE, Va. - Esther Mae Law, 76, of 11641 Mt. Cross Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 27, 1927, in Henry County, she was a daughter of Lewis Swanson and Mary Devins Swanson, who predeceased her.
She was employed at Hooker Furniture Company for 22 years prior to her retirement.
She was married to Henry Thomas Law, who predeceased her.
She is survived by three daughters, Gwendolyn Stover of Danville, Priscilla Law of the residence, and Theressa Law of Cascade; five stepdaughters, Gracie Newton and Leslie Law, both of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Tena Bradshaw of Middletown, N.Y., Dorothy Goodwin of Conn. and Cathy Peterson of Montpelier, Pa.; two sons, Thomas Law of Philadelphia, Pa. and Donnie Law of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; one sister, Sally Holley of Axton; one brother, Johnny Swanson of Baltimore, Md. and 19 grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four stepsons, Bernard Law, Joe Lewis Law, James Alvin Law and Leamond Law.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bethel Way of the Cross Holiness Church, Mount Cross Road, with Apostle Joseph Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Sharon Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Harriett Garrett Lea
DANVILLE, Va. - Harriett Garrett Lea, 93, of Riverside Health Care, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 9, 1909, in Danville, she was the daughter of Willard Hayes and Mary Bell Williams Hayes.
She was a cook at Averett College. She was a member of Loyal Baptist Church and a charter member of the Jones Gospel Chorus.
She was married to Charlie F. Lea, who predeceased her.
She is survived by one son, Howard Garrett of Danville; three daughters, Mable G. Anderson, Harriett Poteat and Clara Fuller, all of Danville; one sister, Franklin Brock of Cleveland, Ohio; 21 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Loyal Baptist Church with the Rev. Lovelle Maxwell officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home.

William P. Mack
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - William Paden Mack, 87, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 6, 1915, in Hillsboro, Ill.
He was a retired Vice Admiral. He entered the Naval Academy in 1933 and graduated in 1937. During his naval career, he served in battleships, amphibious forces and destroyers. He commanded the destroyers Woodworth and Anderson and destroyer Division 22 and Destroyer Squadron 28. He also commanded Amphibious Group Two and the Seventh Fleet during the final days of Vietnam when it became, in fire power, the most powerful fleet ever assembled.
Ashore he served in Washington, D.C. in the Bureau of Naval Personnel, on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations, in the Joint Staff and on the Staff of the Secretary of the Navy as Naval Aide, Chief of Information and Chief of Legislative Affairs. His last position before retiring in 1975 was as Superintendent of the Naval Academy. He was awarded three Distinguished Service Medals and various other awards and decorations.
After retiring, he served on the boards of various corporations, associations and foundations. He co-authored three books on naval science, co-authored one work of fiction and authored 12 additional works of fiction. He was awarded the Alfred Thayer Mahan prize for literary excellence, the Secretary of the Navy's Distinguished Civilian Award and the University of Maryland's President's Medal.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Sutherlin Mack; two children, William P. Mack Jr. of Annapolis and Margaret Opsahl of Gaithersburg, Md.; two stepchildren, Henry Day Sutherlin of West Point, Va. and Mary Saunders Hedburg of Walkerton, Va.; four grandsons; three step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth McMillin Mack.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the U.S. Naval Academy Chapel. Interment will be in the academy cemetery.

DANVILLE, Va. - June Gravely Simpson, 79, of 143 Northwest Blvd., died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 2, 1923, in Danville, she was a daughter of Lewis Gravely, who predeceased her and Nena Byrd Gravely, who survives.
She was a charter member of North Main Baptist Church. She lived most of her life in Danville. For 40 years, she worked as an office clerk for Dan River, Inc.
She was married to Charles Linwood Simpson Sr., who predeceased her April 30, 1987.
In addition to her mother of Danville, she is survived by a daughter, Brenda Diane Turner of Danville; a son, Wesley Kent Turner of the residence; a sister, Jean Fowler of Danville; two brothers, Lewis Gravely Jr. and Lance Gravely, both of Danville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Leroy Clack officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Gilbert Simpson, 87, of 432 Hermitage Drive, Outlook Pointe, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, in Stratford Health Care Center.
Born Jan. 26, 1915, in Danville, she was the daughter of George B. Gilbert and Fannie Jefferies Gilbert.
She was a graduate of Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va. She was a bookkeeper. She was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.
She was married first to Pringle Jennings Myers, who predeceased her in 1976.
She was later married to Ray Simpson, who also predeceased her.
She is survived by two daughters, Ann Saffell of Roswell, Ga. and Mary Jane Bradley of Fredericksburg and two grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was also predeceased by four brothers, Jeff Gilbert, Hobert Gilbert, Jack Gilbert and Starling Gilbert.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Steve Carlton officiating.

DANVILLE, Va. - Steven Wayne Walker Jr., 32, of 332 Seminole Trail, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 10, 1970, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was a son of Steven Wayne Walker Sr. and Dale Evans Walker, who both survive.
He was employed at Furniture Depot.
He was married to Jamie Richards Walker.
In addition to his parents of Danville and his wife of the residence, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Calvin and Ramona Tuck of Gretna; a great-grandmother, Mozelle Shorter of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and a brother, Shawn Wesley Walker of College Park, Md.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Willie and Sybil Evans and his paternal grandfather, Franico Walker.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Townes Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in Schoolfield Cemetery.

Mr. Walton, widower of the late Jane Johnson Walton, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003. He was the son of the late Edward Lee and Ida Jane Inman Walton. Formerly of Danville, Va., he was a resident of Columbia since 1966. Mr. Walton was a U.S. Army veteran with service during the Korean conflict. He was retired from Pacific Mills in Columbia and Dan River Mills in Danville, Va.
Tom Walton was a family man with a kind and caring heart. This generous and loving man, who loved those around him and his life, will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Norman Giles Adcock, 92, of 103 Rosehill Drive, died July 14, 2002, at the Woodview Nursing Home.
Born June 16, 1910, in Oxford, N.C., he was the son of Robert W. Adcock and Betsy Murray Adcock.
He was first married to Gladys P. Adcock, and later married Rosa Lacks Adcock. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Survivors include five sons, Giles H. Adcock of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Robert H. Adcock of Danville, Wayne Adcock of Halifax, William Adcock of Hurt and George Adcock of South Boston; one daughter, Susan Ann Adcock of South Boston; two brothers, Rowland Adcock of Farmville and James Adcock of Oxford, N.C.; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 15 stepchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Leonard officiating. Interment will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens.

Frances Blair Davis
DANVILLE, Va. - Frances Blair Davis, 83, of 261 BelAire Drive, Danville, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born on December 30, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, she was the daughter of Robert P. Blair, Sr., and Virginia Cardwell Blair. She was first married to Russell A. Hardy, who predeceased her on September 4, 1986. She was married on November 12, 1989 to Benjamin W. Davis, who survives.
She was employed at Belk-Leggett Co. for a number of years prior to her retirement. She was a life-long member of Fairview United Methodist Church where she was secretary of the Fellowship Class and a member of the Sanctuary Choir. She was also active in the Westover Senior Fellowship.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include one daughter, Betty Jo Hardy of Raleigh, NC; one brother, Robert P. Blair, Jr. of Danville; two grandchildren, Russell S. Powell of Wake Forest, NC and Meredith P. Riggs of Youngsville, NC; one step-daughter, Joy D. Biggs, of Danville; two step-grandchildren, Byron D. Biggs and Deidre B. McGugan, both of Cary, NC; and one great-grandchild, Zachary Riggs of Youngsville, NC.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Billy Cardwell Blair.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM at Fairview United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 16, 2002 by The Reverend Doctor Thomas Evans and The Reverend Louis Carson. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
