GRAHAM, N.C. - Althea Elizabeth Rich Magrini, 83, of Alamance Health Care, formerly of 413 West Gilbreth St., died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Alamance Regional Medical Center following one year of declining health.
She was the daughter of McBride Holt Rich and Roxie Heritage Rich.
She was married to Mario Joseph Magrini, who predeceased her in 1967. She was an interior designer, having been employed with Barbee Fabrics. She was a graduate of the Chicago School of Interior Design. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Elon Ward. She was a native of Alamance County.
Survivors include one daughter, Rita Magrini Doggett of Danville, Va.; two sons, Richard Mario Magrini of Burlington, and William Joseph Magrini of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Rev. William Alfred Rich of Burlington and Kendall Rich of Graham; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by one brother, Thomas Rich.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Providence United Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at McClure Funeral Home in Graham and other times will be at the residence of Roxanne Doggett Clark, 1971 Webster Grove Road in Mebane.

Cluster Mayhew
DANVILLE, Va. - Cluster Florence Walker Mayhew, 83, of 26 Oak Ridge Avenue, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at the residence following two months of declining health.
Born Sept. 25, 1918, in Franklin County, she was a daughter of Sam Walker and Mary Lizzie Harris Walker.
She was married Dec. 24, 1936, to Thomas Woody Mayhew, who predeceased her. She was a member of Shermont Baptist Church and lived most of her life in Danville. She retired from Dan River Mills, Inc. after 25 years of service as a weaver in the No. 4-B weave room.
She is survived by three sons, Carroll W. Mayhew, Garry Dean Mayhew and Larry Gene Mayhew, all of Danville; three daughters, Joan M. McDowell and Myrna M. Conner, both of Danville, and Daphney M. Martin of Talladega, Ala.; two brothers, Warren Walker of Ringgold and Acie Walker of Chatham; four sisters, Ruth W. Girardin, Vivian W. Walker, Audrey W. Bliss and Jean W. Moser, all of Danville; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband, by three brothers, Aubrey Walker, James E. Walker and Joseph R. Walker, and three sisters, Mary Harris, Carlton Droog, and Virginia Milium.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. John Gentry officiating. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts, and at other times at the residence.

Joshua Thomas Megginson
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Joshua Thomas Megginson, of Walters Mill Rd., Providence NC, walked into Heaven on Saturday, July 13, 2002, at 12:20 A.M. After 22 years of declining health, and 13 years in a wheelchair, Joshua was released from his earthly confinements. Joshua had a large extended family that loved him dearly and will surely miss his presence in their lives.
Surviving relatives are parents, Jeffrey & Gail Megginson of Providence, NC, his sister, Krystal Thompson and brother-in-law Clarence Thompson of Providence, and sister Jessica Megginson of Danville, two brothers, Jason and Scott Willhite of Danville, and three nieces. Grandparents, Lewis and Elizabeth Hair of Danville and Roy Moorefield of Danville. Two wonderful grandparents that greeted him on his arrival in Heaven, Edward and June Megginson predeceased him.
Surviving relatives are parents, Mike & Connnie Crane of Jackson Heights, two sisters, Michele & Stephanie Crane, two brothers, Kristopher and Travis Crane, and two nieces. Grandparents, Sylvia and Henry Hutson of Danville, and Jessie and Audrey Crane of Danville.
He was a member of Nor-Dan Church of Christ, Danville, VA where he was active in the Youth Group of the church, He lived his life in Danville, VA and in the Providence community of Caswell County, North Carolina. He graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at 2:00 P.M. at Nor-Dan Church of Christ by Minister John Hill. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 15, 2002, at Nor-Dan Church of Christ from 7:30 - 8:30 P.M. and at other times will be at the residence.

Sleenia 'Mickey' Rook
REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Sleenia Turner "Mickey" Rook, 82, of 3401 Grooms Road, died at the residence of her granddaughter, 260 Eastwood Drive in Danville.
Born Jan. 13, 1920, in Cleveland County, N.C., she was a daughter of Richard M. Turner and Mary Ellen Kennedy Turner.
She was married to Julius A. Rook Jr., who survives. She lived in Reidsville for the past 18 years, and lived in Danville for 20 years prior to that. She was a member of the Salvation Army in Danville and was a homemaker.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of Reidsville, include one brother, Richard Martin Turner of South Carolina; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, Edward C.F. Rook Sr.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with the Captain Jim McGhee officiating.

Ruby 'Granny' Warren
DANVILLE, Va. - Ruby Martin "Granny" Warren, 86, of 208 Locust Lane, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 1, 1916, in Patrick County, she was a daughter of Harden Robert Martin and Mary Elizabeth Shelton Martin.
She was married to Raleigh Thomas Warren Sr., who predeceased her. She lived all of her life in the Danville area and worked at Dan River, Inc. for 30 years prior to retirement at the age of 62. She was of the Baptist faith and was the last surviving member of her generation.
She is survived by three sons, Robert L. Warren of Danville, R. Thomas Warren Jr. of Bolivia, N.C. and Ronnie L. Warren of Sutherlin; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by four brothers, three sisters, 1 grandchild and four step-rothers.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jack Robertson officiating.

Shirley Woods Dickerson
DANVILLE, Va. - Shirley Woods Dickerson, of 2912 North Main St., died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one month of illness. Born July 20, 1927, in Gretna, she was the daughter of Sam Woods and Pauline Worley Woods.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was retired from Dan River, Inc. as a shift foreman with 42 years of service.
On April 20, 1962, she married Joe M. Dickerson, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by a son, Joseph Lee Dickerson of Danville; a brother, Sam Woods of Gretna; a sister, Alice Marilla of Chatham; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, John Farmer.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Townes Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gil Hawks officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.

Charles Edward Hobbs Sr.
PELHAM, N.C. - Charles Edward Hobbs Sr., 79, of Rt. 1 Box 298-C, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Stratford Health Care Center in Danville, Va.
Born Dec. 14, 1922, in Caswell County, he was the son of John William Hobbs and Martha Jones Hobbs.
He lived most of his life in the Danville, Va. area. He retired from the #6 card room of Dan River, Inc.
He married Catherine Lundsford Hobbs in 1956.
He is survived by two sons, Charles Edward Hobbs Jr. and George Thomas Hobbs; a daughter, Emma Jean H. Hughes, all of Danville, Va.; four sisters, Lucy Jones, Mary Poindexter, Carrie Robertson, all of Danville, Va. and Nettie Honeycutt of Pelham; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by five sisters, Annie Cook, Maude Gauldin, Myrtle Sharp, Helen Robertson and Irene Hill and four brothers.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel, Danville, Va., with the Rev. Wayne Kennon officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens, Danville, Va.

William 'Wolf' Floyd New
DANVILLE, Va. - William "Wolf" Floyd New, 70, of 113 Rosemary Lane, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center after six months of declining health.
Born Nov. 16, 1932, in Lancaster, S.C., he was the son of Roy Milton and Grace Almond Johnson. He was of the Baptist faith. He lived in Danville most of his life and was a resident of Piedmont Adult Home for two years. He was self-employed in the produce business. He served in the U.S. Army and received Good Conduct and National Defense medals.
He is survived by a daughter, Susie Shedd of Monticello, Ga.; two sons, William Lee New of Conway, S.C. and Timothy Allen New of Pelham, Ga.; two sisters, Mildred Hathaway of Danville and Marie Cook of Chatham; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The graveside funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. Cleo Hunley officiating.

Susie Kathleen Yeatts Phillips
DANVILLE, Va. - Susie Kathleen Yeatts Phillips, 81, of 181 Sunset Drive, Dry Fork died Dec. 11, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 5, 1921, in Franklin County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Edgar Earl Yeatts and Lynn Machenheimer Yeatts.
She lived most of her life in the Whitmell community of Pittsylvania County. She taught school for two years at Schoolfield Elementary School and for 38 years at Whitmell Elementary School. She graduated from Radford University with an undergraduate degree in elementary education and from the University of Virginia with a master's degree in elementary education. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Pittsylvania County Retired Teachers Association, and Whitmell United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Anthony Phillips, whom she married on May 9, 1942.
She is survived by two daughters, Susie Kathleen Phillips Dixon and her husband, Walter Herbert Dixon of Monaco, and Linda Jo Phillips Heldreth and her husband, Larry A. Heldreth of Whitmell, Va.
In addition to her daughters, she is survived by three grandchildren, Scott Anthony Heldreth of Charlotte, N.C., Sonya Michelle Dixon of Palo Alto, Calif. and Christina Heldreth Foxworth of Orlando, Fla. In addition, she is survived by a sister, Mildred Yeatts Burgess of Arlington, Va. She was predeceased by a brother, Guy Yeatts of Franklin County, Va. and a sister, Louise Yeatts Batterman of Chatham, Va.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Whitmell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Warrick officiating. Interment will be at Highland Burial Park.

Leonard Reid Scearce
DANVILLE, Va. - Leonard Reid Scearce, 79, of 2309 Franklin Turnpike, died Fri., Dec. 13, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born July 23, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Lee O. Scearce and Dana Winn Scearce.
He lived his entire life in the Pittsylvania County area where, prior to his retirement, he was the area manager for Leeds Music Store.
He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church for sixty years, where he served as choir member, Sunday School teacher and director. He also served on the board of deacons and was a member of Woodmen of the World.
He married Kitty Payne Scearce on Sep. 29, 1942. She predeceased him on June 18, 2000.
He is survived by one daughter, Kathy S. Jones of Cascade; one son, Ronald Payne Scearce of Danville; two brothers, Roy Scearce and Frank Scearce, both of Dry Fork; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by one brother, Herman Scearce.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Allen Holder and the Rev. Donald Scearce officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.

DANVILLE, Va. - Lena "Mozelle" Chandler Stewart, 82, of 32 Elizabeth St., died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for the past 20 years and was a patient of the hospital for two weeks.
Born Feb. 25, 1920, in Danville, she was the daughter of Charles A. Chandler and Theodocia Crabb Chandler.
She lived all of her life in Danville and was a member of Sheldon Baptist Church.
She was married to James F. Stewart, who predeceased her in April 1950.
She is survived by five daughters, Judy Goins of Danville, Faye Hamlett of Providence, N.C., Brenda "Yvonne" Allen of Danville, Shirlene Rudder of Chatham and Linda Evans of Dry Fork; six sisters, Virginia Snow, Thelma Hopkins, both of Danville, Pearl Wyatt, Doris Cox, both of Pelham, N.C., Barbara Blackwell of Bassett and Mary Millner of Danville; a brother, Charlie Chandler of Danville; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Dorothy Raine Shotwell Strickland, 73, of 837 N. Main Street, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Nov. 13, 1929, in South Boston, she was the daughter of Ernest Colon Shotwell and Dorothy Josephine Harvey Strickland.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She was married to William Lowell Strickland.
In addition to her husband, of the home, she is survived by two daughters, Anne Harvey Raab, South Boston and Betty Fleetwood Hoke, Gurnee, Ill; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Oak Ridge Cemetery, with the Rev. Russell Lee officiating.
