Pauline S. Allen-Chisholm, 90, of Richmond, formerly of Powhatan, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001.
She is survived by five children, Bernard K. “B.K.” Allen, Lawrence J. Allen, Laura A. Hatcher, Annie A. Johnson, R. Wayne Allen; 10 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday in the Graceland Baptist Church, Powhatan, with interment in the church cemetery.

Lawrence Booker, 78, of Powhatan, formerly of Cumberland, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Booker; four sons, George, Lawrence and Ronald Booker and Anthony Panton; two daughters, Vernell Straughter and Mary Branch; three stepchildren, Jeanais Brodie, Edward Bowleg and Cassandra Hunt; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; and a sister, Florence Jones.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m. at Rising Zion Baptist Church, Cumberland with interment in the church cemetery.

Evelyn “Tiny” L. Dillard, 79, of Ford, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001.
She is survived by her children, Charles Edward Dillard, Raymond E. Dillard, James I. Dillard, Brenda Johnson, and Gloria Brumley; 18 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bliley Funeral Home’s Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with interment in Oakwood Cemetery.

Alma Lawson Dunivan, 79, of Powhatan, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001.
She is survived by four sons, Jerry Dunivan of Chesterfield, Mike, Tony and Ricky Dunivan, all of Powhatan; four daughters, Joan Donovan of Powhatan, Odell Donovan of Louisa, Yvonne Hawkins of Crew and Judy King of Powhatan; one sister, Elva Worsham of Powhatan; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday in the Red Lane Baptist Church, Powhatan, with interment in Powhatan Community Cemetery.

Walter J. Ferrell
Walter J. (Bally) Ferrell, 81, of Powhatan, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001.
Mr. Ferrell was a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Kitty Ferrell; one daughter, Linda Rose; two sons, Johnny Ferrell and Gerald Ferrell Sr.; three sisters, Catherine Fallen, Mozelle Seay and Louise Darlington and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Feb. 23, 10 a.m. at Faith Freewill Baptist Church, Genito Rd., Powhatan.
Acey L. Hicks
Acey L. Hicks, 47, of Chester, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001.
Surviving are his father and stepmother, Lee L. Hicks and Bertha Hicks of Kentucky; one daughter, Janet Hicks of Ashland; two granddaughters; five sisters, Sallie H. Cole of Chester, Susan H. Dowdy, of Rice, Joyce A. Miser, of Chester, Crystal Hicks of Kentucky, Patty Hicks of California; and four brothers, Billy Robertson of New Kent, Gregg Hicks, Mickey Hicks, Eddie Hicks, all of Kentucky.
Funeral services were conducted Friday at the graveside in Dale Memorial Park Cemetery.

Frances C. Holder, 54, of Amelia, died on Monday, Feb. 19, 2001.
Mrs. Holder was an employee of GBC in Amelia, and she was also an artist.
She is survived by her husband, Robert W.; sons, Stephen, Robert, and Jonathan, all of Amelia; brothers, James A. Cave of Mechanicsville, John Henry Cave, Thomas F. Cave, Jacob Cole Cave; sisters, Ida May Anderson, Betty Jean Barnard, Thelma Lee Aldrich, Lois Redd, Barbara Phillips, all of Amelia, and three grandsons.

Thomas Hughes Jr.
Thomas Watkins Lignon Hughes Jr., major, U.S. Army (retired), died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001.
Major Hughes was a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, West Point.
He is survived by his daughters, Stacey Hughes Williams of Ashburn, Jane Hughes Euler of Vienna; his brother, David Christian Hughes of Ashland; three stepsons, Forrest Westray Cobb of Midlothian, James Oates Cobb of Mechanicsville and Richard Whitlock Cobb of Powhatan; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday in Ashland Presbyterian Church with interment in Woodland Cemetery with military honors.

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Kronberg, 62, of Hopewell, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001.
Surviving are her husband, Donald Kronberg of Hopewell; three sons, Michael “Mick” Kronberg of Larsen, Wis., Gregg Kronberg of Madison, Wis., Boyd “Bud” Kronberg of Virginia Beach; three daughters, Joni Glaze of Amelia, Trisha Rosiles of Disputanta, Kristi McPherson of Hopewell; and three brothers, Douglas Richter of Charlotte, N.C., William Richter and Charles Richter, both of Warwick, R.I.
A memorial service was held Wednesday in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment was private.

Albert R. Lester Sr., 65, of Powhatan, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Lee Hatch Lester; his children, Sandra L. Nuckols-Martin, Judy L. Payne, Henry T. Lester, all of Powhatan, Albert R. Lester Jr. of Chesterfield; three sisters, Glenna Chapman of North Tazewell, Marie Whitt of Mt. Sidney and Alta Supthin of Mechanicsville; and nine grandchildren.

Wirtley T. Lipscomb
Wirtley T. (Bill) Lipscomb, III, 51, of Novato, Calif., died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001.
He is survived by his parents, Wirtley and Doris Lipscomb of Powhatan; four brothers, Warren Lipscomb of Goochland, David Lipscomb of Nelson, Dale Lipscomb of Louisa, and Theodore (Ted) Lipscomb of Shelton, Conn.
He was a graduate of Huguenot Academy and Virginia Commonwealth University, a charter member and secretary of Powhatan Moose Lodge, and a Jaycee Senator.
His last 20 years in Novato, Calif., he was a System Analyst for the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. until retirement. He was a member of the Shakespearean Club and represented the Protection and Advocacy Management for the state of California.

Dorothy W. “Grandma” Lowery, 95, of Powhatan, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001.
She is survived by two sons, Philip B. Lowery Jr. of Powhatan, and Charles E. Lowery of Amelia; a sister, Margaret Peisel of Glen Allen; 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Hortense Jones Miles
Hortense Oneida Jones Miles, 71, Powhatan, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001.
Mrs. Miles was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Cumberland Co. and was retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and a member of the NAACP.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd A. Miles; sons, Reginald A. of Richmond, Floyd N. and Lynwood C. Miles, both of Powhatan; daughters, Joyce E. Miles, Linda M. Ballard, Doretha M. Harris, and Angela M. King, all of Richmond, E. Marlene Hunt of Memphis, Tenn., Vita M. Nash and Julie O. Miles, both of Powhatan; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Powhatan with interment in the church cemetery.

Frances T. Poore
Frances T. Poore, 84, of Amelia, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Weigand of Amelia; brother, George Tinsley of Richmond; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Pine Grove Presbyterian Church, with interment in the church cemetery.

Nelson W. Gaskin
Nelson W. Gaskin, age 71, formerly of Powhatan, departed this life in Richmond, Va. October 16, 2001.
He was born February 17, 1930 in Goochland, Va. Preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Rose Gaskin, brother, Ronald C. Gaskin, and nephew, Garry J. Rudd. He served his country in the U.S. Army and Navy. He will be sadly missed by his sisters, Doris Rudd of Richmond and Martha Jasper of Amelia; brothers, Reginald Gaskin of Powhatan and Donald Gaskin of Hampton; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews, several cousins; two sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Gaskin of Powhatan and Josephine Gaskin of Hampton; two brothers-in-law, McKinley (Jake) Jasper of Amelia and devoted Frank Rudd of Richmond; other relatives and friends.
Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 19, 1 p.m., Virginia Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Amelia, Va. Rev. Wilbert Adams officiating. Relatives and friends assemble at the cemetery Friday, 12:45 p.m.
Elizabeth Macgill Randolph Lewis
Elizabeth Macgill Randolph Lewis died Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at her home in Powhatan.
Born in 1941 and raised on Greenmont Farm in Keene, Va., she was the daughter of the late Allen Killmon Randolph and Lelia Graham Hobson Randolph Bovard. Mrs. Lewis graduated from St. Anne's School in Charlottesville, and attended Sweet Briar College for two years before her marriage to John Latane Lewis III.
A charter member of the Powhatan Junior Woman's Club, she was selected as Hostess of the National Tobacco Festival in 1967. She was an active member and past president of the Powhatan Woman's Club. She was the Christmas Mother of Powhatan County in 1994. She was also a charter member of the Powhatan Garden Club and served as its president in 1970 and 1976. She served as president of the Piedmont District of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs and was chairman of its state convention.
At the time of her death she was serving as Second Vice-President, Finance Committee Chairman, Flower Show Schools Chairman, and Scholarship Chairman of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs. Additionally she was a Nationally Accredited Flower Show Judge. In 1990, she was appointed to the J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College Board of Directors and served as its Vice-Chairman from 1996-1998.
Mrs. Lewis and her family were devoted members of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Powhatan County where she served as Sunday School Director, was a member of the altar guild and of the Episcopal Church Women. She and her husband, Jack, are two of the tri-chairmen of the campaign to establish a YMCA in Powhatan County.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, John Latane Lewis III; one son, John Latane Lewis IV and his wife, Audrey of Kennett Square, Pa.; and three daughters, Anne Harrison Lewis Harris and her husband, Chip of Newport News, Lelia Graham Lewis Webb and her husband, Randy of Portsmouth, and Elizabeth Lewis Allred and her husband, Jon of Davidson, N.C.; and nine grandchildren, Jack, Natalie and Harrison Lewis, Lauck, Will and Latane Harris, Macgill and Rice Webb and Chase Allred. She is also survived by one brother, Graham A. Randolph and his wife, Emily of Brooklandville, Md.; and two sisters, Carroll R. Barr and her husband, Mike of Powhatan and Bruce R. Murray and her husband, Jimmy of Keene.
Elizabeth truly loved life and friends. She always spoke in superlatives, saying, "I saw the most, wonderful, the most beautiful and the most amazing things" every day of her life.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 20, at 11 a.m., at St. Luke's Church in Powhatan. Robert L. Moore Sr.
Robert L. "Bobby" Moore Sr., 57, of Powhatan, died October 13, 2001. He survived by his wife, Gail H. Moore; one daughter, Abbie Gail Moore of Powhatan; three brothers, William Moore of Louisa, Gordon Moore of Richmond, and Buster Moore of North Carolina; two sisters, Marilyn Guider of Colorado, and Maureen White of Richmond; maternal grandmother, Mertilla Dunnavan.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert L. Moore Jr. He currently worked at Flatrock Glass and Door, and was a former electrician with Stuart Circle and Charter Westbrook Hospitals.

W. T. "Slim" Roberts, Sr., age 89, of Amelia, died on October 14, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Ila Lawson Roberts; sons, W. T. Roberts, Jr. and daughter-in-law Anne, John Lawson Roberts and daughter-in-law Pamela; daughter Patricia R. Adams and son-in-law Horace all of Amelia; brother, Jesse L. Roberts of Richmond; sisters, Annie R. Maddrea of Richmond, Ruth R. Wigington of Burkeville, Louise R. Firesheets of Crewe, and Christine R. Bond, of New York, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Nancy Brown Venable, age 77, of Richmond and formerly of Powhatan, Va., departed this life on Tuesday, October 16, 2001 in Richmond.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Hobbs, Patricia Henderson and Daphne Brown; a brother, Clarence Brown; a sister, Bertha Gray; a sister-in-law, Ruth Brown; a brother-in-law, Alfred Gray; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 12 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Powhatan. Rev. Revell Hicks officiating. Interment in the Brown Family Cemetery.

Mildred Cecilia Snider, 84 of Hornsby, Tenn., formerly of Powhatan, died September 1, 2001.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty McMahan of Hornsby, Tenn; one son, Cecil Snider of Powhatan; one sister, Elizabeth Brown of Gloucester, four grandchildren, Jo McMahan, Lyndsey Snider, Randy Snider, Shawn Snider; and one great-grandson, Ritchie Smith; and many faithful friends.

She is survived by one daughter and a devoted son-in-law, Norma Jean and Winfree Williams of Powhatan; two brothers, James F. Hubbard of Powhatan, and Chester Hubbard of Texas; one sister, Lorine Olmstead of Fla.; five grandchildren, Chad Lawson, Amy Carreas, Tony Williams, Terry Pope, and Tracy Williams; nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by her son, James W. Lawson Jr.

Harold Glenn Hurst, 66, of Chesterfield, died on Tuesday, September 4, 2001.
He is survived by his wife Effie Osborne Hurst; his mother Ruth of Richmond; sons, Paul of Pa., Timothy of Ca., and Nelson Osborne of Tn.; daughters, Kathy Bauwens of Richmond, Pam Paulsen of Keysville, Jessie Klase of Pa., Jennifer Koser of Pa., Sindy Ankeney of Charlottesville, Vickie Hurst of Cumberland, Bridget Redman of Amelia, Katrina Lankford of Ga., Patricia Cave of Amelia, and Pamela Osborne of Tn.; brothers, Ray of Ga. and Bennie of Md.; sisters, Jean Moomey of Nb., Mary Breeneman and Cecelia Farmer both of Richmond; 26 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Alice Jo Lloyd
Alice Jo Lloyd, 59, of Blackstone, Va., finally won her courageous battle with cancer and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 4, 2001.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years, Samuel V. "Bid" Lloyd; her children, Mary Lea Quig and her husband, Bill of Blackstone; Wanda Cary and her husband, Mike of Crew; Amelia Prosise and her husband, John of Blackstone; Sam Lloyd and his wife, Kitty of Crewe; and Jerry Hoover of Alexandria; grandchildren, Sarah and Ben Prosise, Samantha Quig, and Orrey and Lucas Lloyd.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Hazel Hoover and her only sister, Mary George.
Chapel funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, at the Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home in Blackstone, with interment to follow in Pine Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Amelia, Va. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, at the funeral home.

William Walker Hackett, 83, of Indiana, died Wednesday, September 5, 2001.
He was a retired adjustment manager for Reynolds Metals Co. and a World War II Army veteran. Survivors include his son, Larry Hackett of Powhatan; his brother, Robert L. Hackett of Louisville, Ky.; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Burial at Guilford Memorial Park, High Point, N.C.
