Johnny J. Wilson, 73, of Portsmouth, Va., died Monday, May 26, 2003, in Elizabeth City, N.C.
A memorial service was held Friday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at Cradock United Methodist Church with Pastor Daniel G. Spaugh officiating. A graveside memorial service and inurnment will be held Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m. in the Bland Cemetery, Bland, Va., with the Rev. Doug Hyndrich officiating.
He was a native of Greenville, N.C., and the son of the late George Washington and Bertha Forest Wilson. He was a retired truck driver for Nu-Car Carries Inc. and was a member of Cradock United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Dillow Wilson of the home; five sons, John M. Wilson and Robert W. "Bobby" Wilson, both of Chula Vista, Calif., Randy Wilson of Portsmouth, Va., Chris Wilson of Chesapeake, Va., and Jay Wilson of Waterlily, N.C; one half brother, Henry Heath of Robersonville, N.C; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wilson of Elizabethtown, N.C.; a brother-in-law, Calvin Stephen of Greenville, N.C.; and five grandchildren, Chris Wilson, Cindy Wilson, Robert Blair, Lyndsay Blair and Abraham Foltz.

James Lester Tiller
James Lester Tiller, 60, of Route 1, Rocky Gap, Va., died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, in a Bluefield, W.Va., hospital.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 15, at 8 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel, Bluefield, W.Va., with the Rev. Jeff Callahan officiating.
Born June 18, 1943, in Rocky Gap, Va., he was a son of the late Paul Fenton Tiller and Ruth Tabor Tiller. He was formerly employed as a machinist with the Power Transmission Company and National Electric Coil of Bluefield, W.Va. He was a lifelong resident of Bland County, Va., and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Meadows Tiller of Rocky Gap, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Andi Tiller of Rocky Gap, Va.; a brother, Gene Tiller of Raleigh, N.C.; three sisters, Linda Browder of Hillsville, Va., Donna Fellows of Roanoke, Va., and Janet Myers of Wytheville, Va.; an aunt, Elsie Harless of Rocky Gap, Va.; an uncle and aunt, Buford "Boot" Tiller and Nannie Rose Tiller, both of Rocky Gap, Va.; a granddaughter, Katie Tiller of Rocky Gap, Va.; and a grandson, Josh Tiller of Rocky Gap, Va.

Cloas Tickle Farmer, 86, of Dublin, Va., died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at the New River Valley Medical Center, Radford, Va.

She was born July 23, 1916, in Bland County, Va., the daughter of the late Grant and Lottie Virginia Tickle.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Howe Farmer Jr.; one daughter and son-in-law, Dianna and Paul Haga of Dublin, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Constance Cenie Slattery
Constance Cenie Slattery, 100, of Lincoln, Mass., formerly of Portsmouth, Ohio, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Walden Rehabilitation Center in Concord, Mass., after a brief illness.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m. at the East End Cemetery, Wytheville, Va.
She was born in Wythe County, Va., in 1901, a daughter of the late Robert Riley and Mary Jane Simmerman. She left Wytheville, Va., to attend business school in Portsmouth, Ohio, where she met Howard Slattery whom she married in 1926. She and her husband were private business owners in Portsmouth, Ohio, from 1932 to 1962, when they retired. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Portsmouth for over 60 years, having served on the Vestry, and working in a variety of church support groups. She was an active member of Scioto County Chapter of Veterans of World War I Auxiliary. In 1994, she moved to the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Hulen and George Kornfield, in Lincoln, Mass.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Slattery, in 1993; and six brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her daughter, Hulen Kornfield; four grandchildren, Leslie Kornfield, Stephanie Kornfield, Kari Kornfield and Geoffrey Kornfield; and many nieces and nephews.

Harry Wesley Danner, 53, of Wytheville died Sunday evening, July 13, 2003, in the Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 17, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Kevin Fiorini and the Rev. Russell Catron officiating. Interment will be in Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat.
He was born in Pulaski, a son of the late John Edward Sr. and Dorothy Simmerman Danner. He was a former member of Galena Presbyterian Church, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a well-known brickmason and farmer.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kara Rebecca Danner; and an infant sister.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Catron Danner of the home; one daughter, Katie Loraine Danner of the home; two brothers, John Edward Danner Jr. of Wilkesboro, N.C., and David R. Danner of Max Meadows; father-in-law, Hubert Catron Jr. of Rural Retreat; two special sisters-in-law and spouses, Linda and Kevin Fiorini, Wanda and Larry Pruitt, all of Wytheville; a special brother-in-law and spouse, Ron and Ginny Catron of Wytheville; a special aunt, Loraine Heldreth of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles Eugene "Charlie Bug" Stowers, 28, of Pearisburg, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle incident on Interstate 77.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 13, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows, with the Rev. Bill Sleasman officiating. Burial followed in Sunny Point Cemetery in the Clearfork section of Bland County, near Rocky Gap.
Born March 28, 1975, he was employed as a laborer with a flooring company.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Allen Shrader; and his paternal grandfather, Charles Bernard Stowers.
Survivors include his parents, Darrell Lynn and Patricia Darlene Shrader Stowers of Pearisburg; one son, Charles Eugene Stowers Jr. of Narrows; his maternal grandmother, Gracie Shrader of Bland; his paternal grandmother, Stella Stowers of Bastian; two brothers and sister-in-law, Jason Lee and Nancy Stowers of Pearisburg, and Joseph Clay Stowers of Pearisburg.

Mary Lou Mustard Totten, 81, of Vinton died Friday, July 11, 2003, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke.

She was born Sept. 9, 1921, a daughter of the late King H. and Zozo Dixon Mustard.
She was a member of Mays Memorial United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jane Mustard.

Betty Zane McGuire Vest, 75, of the White Gate community in Pearisburg died Friday, July 11, 2003, at New River Valley Medical Center, Radford.

She was born May 25, 1928, at Mechanicsburg, a daughter of the late Joseph Edward and Flora Harman McGuire. She was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Calvin Vest; a brother, Harry Thomas McGuire; and a sister, Gay Jeanette Kelley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fay F. Hunter; and her parents, John and Laura Elizabeth Atwell.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Deonne Thompson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. at the Wytheville Pentecostal Holiness Church on West Ridge Road, Wytheville, Va.
She was a graduate of the nursing program at Wytheville Community College and was a registered nurse.
She was preceded in death by her father, S.R. Barnes; and brother, Joseph A. Barnes.
