Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 1, at 2 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home in Bland, Va., with the Rev. Roger Lusk officiating. Interment will be in Hoge's Chapel Cemetery in Bland, Va.
He was a lifelong resident of Bland County, Va., and was a member of the Central United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James "Wardy" and Bessie Helvy Morehead; a sister, Ruby Morehead Tickle; and a brother-in-law, J.D. Tickle.
Survivors include one niece; and his caregivers and close family friends, Jack and Veronica Compton of Bland, Va.

John Nye Tickle Jr., 55, of Bland, Va., died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Nye Tickle Sr.

John Henry Hurley, 50, of Bland, Va., died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Arthur Chapman and the Rev. Bennie Muncy officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Princeton, W.Va.
He was the son of the late Charles Edgar and Elizabeth McLemore Hurley. He was an employee of Williams Manufacturing and was a well known local musician.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Marie Hurley; and a sister, Nancy Lou Hurley.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Roland Hurley of Bland, Va.; a daughter, Retha Denise Hurley of Erving, Mass.; four sisters, Shirley Tester of Salem, Va., Mary Estep of Fenton, Mich., Faye Justus of Axton, Va., and Lucy Estep of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Charles Hurley of Iaeger, W.Va., and Kenneth Hurley of Pineville, W.Va.; mother-in-law, Bessie Roland of Wytheville, Va.; and two grandchildren, Austin Hurley and Nathaniel Hurley.

Eva B. Pruett Dunagan, 92, of Princeton, W.Va., died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at the Princeton Community Hospital, Princeton, W.Va.
A service to celebrate her life was held Saturday, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m. at the Burns Wornal Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory, Athens Road, Princeton, W.Va., with the Rev. Gerald McKinney, the Rev. Joe Fritz, and the Rev. Barry Skaggs officiating. Burial was in the Shiloh Cemetery, Bland, Va.
Born Oct. 10, 1910, in Bland County, Va., she was a former employee for National Coil Company in Bluefield, W.Va., and the Bastian Sportswear Company. She was a member of the Silver Springs Baptist Church in Princeton, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Louise Alburt Williams; her first husband, Henry H. Pruett Sr.; her second husband, T.R. Dunagan; a grandson, Steven Pruett; two great-grandchildren, Tonya and Chris; and five brothers and sisters, Pauline Helvey, Della Sarver, Ed Williams, Jim Williams and Blake Williams.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Henry H. He was born Feb. 20, 1932, in Horse Creek, (McDowell County) W.Va. He was a retired coal miner, carpenter, and brick mason and was affiliated with the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Rural Retreat, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Edward and Virgie Ellen Wagner Payne; a grandson, Melvin Edward Mullins; a son-in-law, Oren S. Gray; and a sister, Etta Marie Moore.

James W. "Jack" Thompson, 71, of Marion, N.C., died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at his residence.

He was born June 10, 1931, in Bland County, Va., a son of the late Charles M. Thompson and Mary Repass Thompson. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from both C.E. Air Preheater and Sara Lee Knit Products. He was a member of North Cove Baptist Church.
He is survived his wife, Mary Rozetta Stevens Thompson of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, James Timothy and Jennifer Thompson of Nebo, Va.; two granddaughters, Jordan and Hannah; three sisters, Helen Caldie of Hampton, Va., Gladys Faulk of Hampton, Va., and Letha Olson of Waverly, Va.

Anthony A. Thomas, 1, of Elyria, Ohio, died Monday, Jan. 27. 2003, at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, after a nine-month illness with acute myeloid leukemia.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 1, at Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, Lorain, Ohio, with Deacon John Slatcoff of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, Ohio.

Born Dec. 27, 1911, in Marion, Va., she was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Wytheville, Va. She was a past member of the Wythe County Community Hospital Auxiliary, the Wednesday Club, Wilderness Road D.A.R., Moribana Garden Club, and several bridge groups.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Bird; her parents, Lewis Preston and Mary Sherwood Francis; a sister and brother-in-law, Roxie and Bill Wolfe; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ted and Lillian Francis, Percy and Faye Francis, and Jim and Marguerite Francis.
