Margie E. Stoneberger
Margie Elizabeth Stoneberger, 68, of 1986 Lucas Hollow Road in Stanley, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at Page Memorial Hospital in Luray.
Mrs. Stoneberger was born May 5, 1935, in Stanley, and was a daughter of the late Homer Campbell and Ida Lucas Campbell.
She was a homemaker and a member of Blue Ridge Pentecostal Church.
In 1947, she married Floyd William Stoneberger, who survives.
She is also survived by two daughters, Lisa F. Stoneberger of Stanley and Lois A. Tharp of Luray; a son, Ricky J. Stoneberger of Stanley; a sister, Lucille Cubbage, and a brother, Lloyd Campbell, both of Stanley; and four grandchildren.
The Revs. Tony Cubbage and Aldine Pence will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at Blue Ridge Pentecostal Church, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Her body will be taken to the church 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the family cemetery in Stanley.
Arrangements are by the Bradley funeral Home in Luray.
Ruth E. Lester
Ruth E. Lester, 87, of Willow Estates, Harrisonburg, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Funeral arrangements were pending Monday night at McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
Roger L. Shafer Sr.
Roger Lee Shafer Sr., 51, Old Valley Pike, Mount Jackson, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Shafer was born April 27, 1952, in New Market and was the son of Gertie Bare Shafer Frye of Mount Jackson and the late Landon Ray Shafer.
He was a member of Singers Glen United Methodist Church.
On Oct. 18, 1978, he married Glenda Reedy Shafer, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Roger L. Shafer Jr., James Shafer, Richard Shafer and Bobby Shafer, all of Mount Jackson; two daughters, Lisa Ann Lonas and Holly Sue Shafer, both of Mount Jackson; three sisters, Cindy, Linda and Sue; three brothers, Kelly Shafer, Danny Shafer and Claude Shafer, all of Mount Jackson, and 12 grandchildren.
The Rev. Louie Shafer will conduct the graveside funeral 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Stoney Creek Church Cemetery in Basye.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Mount Jackson.
Ralph A. Bobsin
Ralph Anthony Bobsin, 78, 575 Long Ave., Harrisonburg, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at his residence.
Mr. Bobsin was born April 17, 1925, in Providence, R.I., and was the son of the late Harry and Lillian Bobsin.
He attended Harvard, Yale and Princeton universities. He served in the U.S. Navy for 14 years and was employed at the Ledger-Star in Norfolk, the Page News and Courier in Luray and the Daily News-Record in Harrisonburg before retiring.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and was formerly senior warden and lay reader at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Norfolk. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club.
On Nov. 27, 1952, he married Jeanne L. Bobsin, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Ralph Anthony "Tony" Bobsin Jr. of Grottoes, Geoffrey William Bobsin of Fairfax and Timothy Wayne Bobsin of Port Republic; a daughter, Cynthia Lynn Glover of Sparkling Springs; a sister, Sylvia Lentz of Cranston, R.I., seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Glen Langston will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Woodbine Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Edward C. VanHorn
Edward Clarence VanHorn, 69, 340 Cobblestone Lane, Shenandoah, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003.
Mr. VanHorn was born June 12, 1934, in Dalles, Pa., and was the son of the late Clarence Casper VanHorn and Margaret Shields VanHorn.
He was a self-employed ferrier.
On Aug. 24, 1985, he married Maria Dawn Simmons VanHorn of Shenandoah, who survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Karen Hinton and Kim VanHorn, both of Coal, Fla., Diane Hopkins of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Debra Campbell of Shenandoah and Debra Otterweich of Ocala, Fla.; two sons, Mike Duncan of Luray and Ronnie Fisher of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Nancy Casey of Joppa, Md.; two brothers, Robert VanHorn and Nick VanHorn, both of Joppa, Md., 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Edna T. Dowrey
Edna Thornton Dowrey, 89, 211 Preston Lane, Luray, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Campbell’s Adult Home.
Mrs. Dowrey was born Jan. 8, 1914, in Derbyshire, England, and was the daughter of the late Herbert Ashton and Bertha Rhodes.
She was a homemaker and a member of Luray United Methodist Church.
On Aug. 31, 1935, she married George T. Dowrey Sr., who died Jan. 11, 1989.
Surviving are a son, George T. Dowrey Jr. of Luray, a daughter, Carol LaRocca of Columbia, Md., six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

William Harrison Edmonson Jr., 77, 1170 Westmoreland Drive, Harrisonburg, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at his residence.

Grace Madeline Alger, 71, Quicksburg, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at Hampton Sentara Medical Center in Hampton.

M. Simeon Heatwole
M. Simeon Heatwole, 87, a resident of 1717 Coakleytown Road, Dayton, peacefully went home to be with his savior Oct. 30, 2003, at the home of a son.
Mr. Heatwole was born on April 5, 1916, in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Melvin Jasper and Mollie Coffman Heatwole. He was a dairy farmer in the Mole Hill Community. He enjoyed traveling and often spending winters in Florida. He was a deacon and minister in Bank and Bethany Congregations of the Southeastern Mennonite Conference and was a member of the Bethany Mennonite Church.
On June 6, 1945, he married the former Ruth Hege who preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 1994.
Surviving are four sons, Mahlon Heatwole and wife Colleen, Burton, Mich.; Owen Heatwole and wife Grace, Lakeland, Fla.; Gerald Heatwole and wife Anita, McGaheysville; Clair Heatwole and wife Dianne, Bridgewater; a daughter, Lucinda Schrock and husband Allen, Hillsboro, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Susan Heatwole Martin, widow of the late Steven Heatwole his son who died July 11, 1991. Three sisters, Lora Heatwole and Nancy Heatwole both of Harrisonburg; Esther Knicely, Mount Crawford; 18 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
Eldwin Campbell, John Paul Campbell, Keith Crider and David F. Showalter will conduct a funeral Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Bank Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 until 9 at the Bank Mennonite Church.

Carroll W. Eppard Sr.
Carroll Willard Eppard Sr., 60, of 980 N. River Road, Mount Solon, died on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at his home.
He was born on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1943, in Rockingham County, Va., and was a son of the late Bennie and Ruth Plum Eppard.
Mr. Eppard was owner and operator of Eppard’s Welding and Metal Fabrication for 15 years and also worked for Lowe’s Mechanical Inc. in Charlottesville, Va.
He was united in marriage on Dec. 24, 1964, to Judy L. Botkin of Mount Solon, who survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons, Carroll Willard Eppard Jr. of Mount Solon, and Stacey Lane Eppard and wife, Heather, of Staunton; and two brothers, Elwood Eppard of Waynesboro and Bobby Eppard of Elkton.
A funeral service will be held at Johnson Funeral Service Chapel on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at 11 a.m. with the Revs. Charles David Clinedinst and Alda Gunn officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Johnson Funeral Service on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Sandra D. Jones
Sandra Diane "Sandy" Sours Jones was escorted by angels to heaven Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003. She passed away at Rockingham Memorial Hospital from heart failure.
She was born Aug. 4, 1957. Sandy was a high school graduate and attended Blue Ridge Community College, where she received a degree in dental assistance. She was employed by Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where she was a switchboard operator.
Sandy will be sadly missed by her parents, Walter Lee and Edna Earl Buracker Sours. She leaves behind a loving and devoted husband, James Edward Jones Jr. They united their love Feb. 21, 2003.
Sandy was blessed with a son, Marcus Frye of Winchester; a son, Marine Sergeant Travis "T.J." Frye of Okinawa, Japan; a daughter, Air Force 1st Class Airman Latoya Frye Settles of Okinawa, Japan; a daughter, Whitney
Jackson of Harrisonburg; a daughter, Devondra "Dee" Jackson of Harrisonburg; a daughter, Tonya Jones of North Carolina; a daughter, Melissa Johnson of Newport News; and a son, Terrace Hopper of Newport News.
Sandy’s sisters will greatly miss her irreplaceable humor, compassion, friendship and unconditional love. She leaves Shirley Cook of Shenandoah, Jean Silvious, Brenda Moulder, Connie Stoneberger and Dot Wright, all of
Luray. She also leaves two grandchildren.
The Rev. Charles R. Turner will conduct services at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at the Bradley Funeral Home in Luray. Burial will follow at Mount
Zion Cemetery in Luray.

Laura E. Hostetter
Laura Edna Wilhelm Hostetter, 84, of Lexington, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Mrs. Hostetter was born on Feb. 12, 1919, and was a daughter of the late Henry Gardner Wilhelm and Laura Mae Entsminger Wilhelm.
She was a member of the Bible Church at Rockbridge.
Mrs. Hostetter is survived by her husband of 65 years, James Mason Hostetter of Lexington; five children, Jean Ann Hostetter Clark and husband, Talmage of Harrisonburg, Doris Mae Hostetter, Marjorie Ellen Hostetter, James Stephenson Hostetter and wife, Lonie, Edna Marie Hostetter and husband, Lewis, all of Lexington; two sisters, Lillian Wilhelm Hall, Annie Wilhelm Bowen, both of Lexington; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and 12 stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. George Warden officiating. Burial will follow in the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Bible Church at Rockbridge.

Frederic M. Willson
Frederic M. "Fred" Willson, 87, of Sun City Center, Fla., died Oct. 6, 2003. Born in Somerville, Mass., Fred worked for Merck & Co. Inc. at Elkton, Va., for 32 years (25 years as manager of Quality Assurance).
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Lam Willson of Sun City Center, Fla.; daughters, Patricia Hansley and husband, Ronald, of Elkton, Va., and Shirley Biehl and husband, Larry, of Shoemakersville, Pa.; stepson, Larry Burner and wife, Nancy, of Danville, Va.; stepgrandchildren, Larry W. Burner and wife, Gwen, of Danville, and Marie White and husband, Chris, of Charlotte, N.C.; stepgreat-granddaughters, Courtney and Rebekah Burner of Danville and Anastasia White of Charlotte, N.C.
