Jared J. Dunlap
Jared Jones Dunlap, 86, a resident of the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg since 1990, died at 3:40 Monday morning, Oct. 6, 2003, at Oak Lea Nursing Home.
A son of the late Wilbur Hanger and Effie Huffer Dunlap, he was born on Aug. 30, 1917, in Augusta County.
He lived his early life in the Parnassas area and later made his home in Staunton from 1958 to 1990, when he moved to Harrisonburg. Mr. Dunlap graduated from North River High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Harrisonburg and was a charter member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Staunton. In 1980, he retired with 37 years of service from DuPont in Waynesboro.
On Nov. 15, 1942, he married Virginia Thacker Dunlap, who preceded him in death on June 7, 1993.
He is survived by one daughter, Ellen Baldwin and son-in-law, Jud Baldwin of Harrisonburg; one granddaughter, Kathy Baldwin Ridder and husband, Andrew Ridder and one great-granddaughter, Virginia Ridder, all of Bridgewater; three sisters, Garnet Wimer of Harrisonburg, Juineta Michael of Springfield and Zetta Humphries of Port Orange, Fla.; two brothers, Paul Dunlap and Roy Dunlap, both of Staunton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Armentrout.
Memorial services, conducted bt the Rev. Otis L. Fisher, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. at Mossy Creek Presbyterian Church, Mount Solon, Va. Burial will be held earlier in the day.
His body now rests at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, where the family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 7 to 8.

Emmett D. Hesse
Emmett David Hesse, 88, of Maysville, W.Va., died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, W.Va.
Mr. Hesse was born Oct. 10, 1914, in Hopeville, W.Va., and was a son of the late William Harry Hesse and Susan Amy Turner Hesse.
He was a farmer and carpenter and a member of Jordan Run Union Church.
His first wife, Edna Mae Berg Hesse, preceded him in death April 18, 1954.
He is survived by his wife, Effie Keplinger Hesse; four daughters, Artie Mae Cunningham, Lena Amy Wilkins and Darlene Virginia Turner, all of Petersburg, W.Va., and Bonnie Marie Kisamore of Maysville, W.Va.; two sons, Richard W. Hesse of Fisher, W.Va., and Lee Allen T. Hesse of Manassas; two sisters, Grace Kuykendall of Petersburg, W.Va., and Virginia Crum of Summersville, Ohio; a brother, Clarence Hesse of Maysville, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Paul Donaldson will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jordan Run Union Church. Burial will be in the Barger Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, W.Va.

Edna R. Hinegardner
Edna Rebecca (Lineweaver) Hinegardner, 104, of Pleasant Valley, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at her home in Pleasant Valley. Mrs. Hinegardner was a retired secretary for Farm Bureau Co-op and was a member of Cooks Creek Presbyterian Church.
She was born on Wednesday, June 28, 1899, in Rockingham County, and was a daughter of the late Newton and Margaret (Early) Lineweaver.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Hinegardner, in 1960, and her daughter, Hazel Hite, in 2003.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews; a number of great-great nieces and nephews and many great-great- great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, Cooks Creek Presbyterian Church with Wendell L. "Sonny" Henkel officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends at the church from 1 until 2 before the service.

Bessie R. Wheelbarger
Bessie R. Wheelbarger, 88, of Marion, Ind., died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Cypress Cove Care Center in Crystal River, Fla.
Ms. Wheelbarger was born Feb. 9, 1915, in Rockingham County, and was a daughter of the late Charles W.A. and Martha Susan Minnigh Wheelbarger. She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Rosie Wheelbarger.
She moved to Marion in 1968 and was a live-in caretaker. She was a member of the Briery Branch Church of the Brethren in Dayton, Va., and attended the Marion Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Whitmore of Hinton, and Eva Click of Dayton; two brothers, Johnny Wheelbarger of Tennessee, and Glen Wheelbarger of Dayton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Allen Kahler will conduct the funeral 1 p.m. Wednesday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, Ind., where visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Grant Memorial Park.

Hunter G. Fitzgerald
Hunter Greene Fitzgerald, 72, of 2112 Barren Ridge Road in Staunton, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at his home.
Funeral arrangements were pending Monday night at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave.
Annie B. Cave
Annie Bell Cave, 93, of Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003.
She was born June 14, 1910, in Rockingham County, and was the daughter of the late William and Hattie Susan Cave Plaugher.
She lived in Harrisonburg since 1938 and was a homemaker. She was affiliated with the Briery Branch Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include a son, William W. Cave of Tampa, Fla.; a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
A private burial will be at the Briery Branch Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
Fred Bennett
Fred Bennett, 87, of Onego, W.Va., died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, W.Va.
Mr. Bennett was born June 5, 1916, in Onego, W.Va., and was the son of the late John W. Bennett and Effie Alice Davis Bennett.
He was a farmer and a custodian for McCall’s Printing Company in Bowie, Md. He was a lifelong member of Seneca United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Mildred (Bennett) Bennett; three sons, John H. Bennett of White Marsh, Md., Larry R. "Rick" Bennett of Bear, Del., and George Wayne Bennett of Seneca Rocks, W.Va.; a daughter, Loretha K. Humphrey of Daytona Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bennett was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Pastors Barbara Rexroad and Rebecca Bennett will conduct the funeral 1 p.m. Wednesday at Seneca United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Bennett family cemetery in Onego, W.Va.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, W.Va.

Eunice F. Dove
Eunice Fannie Dove, 94, of Bergton, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Dove was born April 30, 1909, in Hardy County, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Parren "Doc" and Amanda Strawderman See.
She was a homemaker.
Her first husband, Willis Sirk, and her second husband, Layman Dove, preceded her in death.
She is survived by four stepchildren, Verdie Tate of Dayton, Kenneth Dove of Singers Glen, and Courtney Dove and Max Dove, both of Harrisonburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Arlena Mongold will conduct a graveside service 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Mathias, W.Va.

Ruth C. Wilfong
Ruth C. Kimble Wilfong, 70, of Canton, Ohio, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at her home.
Mrs. Wilfong was born Feb. 12, 1933, in Riverton, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Curtis Kimble and Tena White.
She retired from Frito Lay and was a dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Canton, Ohio.
She is survived by her former husband, Charles Wilfong of Canton, Ohio; three daughters, Coleen Ablle of Lexington, Ky., Christena Zander of Canton, Ohio, and Brenda Jasionowski of Georgia; six sisters, Gay Johnson of Winslow, Ill., Genevieve Schwuab of Lake Havasue City, Ariz., Macie Simmons of Bridgeport, W.Va., Kathleen Vandevander of Bartow, W.Va., Betty Tompson of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Violet Borman of Waynesboro; three brothers, Ronald Nelson of Malvern, Ohio, Gale Nelson of Abingdon, Md., and Duanne Kimble of Riverton, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin, W.Va. Burial will be at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton, W.Va.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Sandra B. Hoy
Sandra Burkholder Hoy, 63, of 333 Monument Ave., Harrisonburg, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. She had not been in good health for five years.
Funeral arrangements were pending Monday night at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
Lorraine S. Landis
Lorraine Schueck Gotwals Landis, 88, of Singers Glen, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at the home of her daughter.
Mrs. Landis was born June 24, 1915, in Souderton, Pa., and was a daughter of the late Clayton and Lillian Schueck Gotwals.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Morning View Mennonite Church.
On Sept. 14, 1935, she married Wilmer M. Landis, who preceded her in death Dec. 11, 2001.
She is survived by three sons, Earl G. Landis of Shaefferstown, Pa., Paul G. Landis of Alberta, Canada, and James G. Landis, Petersburg, W.Va.; three daughters, Darlene L. Saunders, Republic of South Africa, Sara Anne Wright Kane, Monroe, Okla., and Christine L. Burkholder of Singers Glen; a sister, Beulah Kulp of Souderton, Pa.; two brothers, Bob Gotwals and Bill Gotwals, both of Souderton, Pa.; 21 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Singers Glen Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Morning View Mennonite Church with Pastors Ric Gullman and Roland Good officiating.

Dwight W. Griffith
Dwight Wayne Griffith, 36, of 563 Fairview Road, Luray, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Griffith was born Aug. 12, 1967, and was a son of Dwight T. Griffith and C. Darlene Price Griffith of Luray.
He was a member of Morning Star Lutheran Church and was a meat cutter at Martins.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Annette Lee Griffith; two sons, Chance Ryan Griffith and Dwight Douglas Griffith; two brothers, James Alan Griffith and Jason Griffith; and his grandparents, Gilbert T. Griffith and Doris Phillips Griffith, all of Luray.
The Rev. Jeffrey D. Marble will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Friday at Morning Star Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Morning Star Lutheran Cemetery in Luray.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening at the Bradley Funeral Home in Luray.
Dorothy M. Breeden
Dorothy Marie Breeden, 59, of Elkton, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks. She had been in failing health for two years.
Mrs. Breeden was born Nov. 7, 1943, in Page County, and was a daughter of the late Floyd McKinley and Evelyn Marie Dovel Turner.
She had worked in the poultry industry for 39 years before retiring from Pilgrims Pride in Alma. She attended Jollett United Methodist Church.
On Sept. 15, 1962, she married Johnny Amos Breeden, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Brenda Lam and Penny Lou Breeden, both of Elkton; a brother, Floyd Junior Turner of Fulks Run; three sisters, Glorine Thomas of Elkton, Barbara Ann Breeden of Luray, and Rebecca Cubbage of Ruckersville; a half sister, Nellie Lucas of Stanley and two grandchildren.
The Rev. Michael Plasters will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Friday at Furnace United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Friends may also call at the Breeden home at any time.
