Iola T. Drew
Iola Thompson Drew, 89, of Moorefield, W.Va., died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg, W.Va.
Mrs. Drew was born July 21, 1914, in Hunters Mill, and was the daughter of the late Clyde Thompson and Annie W. Ward Thompson.
She was employed at Tampa Ship Yard in Tampa, Fla., and was a billing clerk for Willard Hotel in Washington, D.C., Goodwill in New York and Governess in Annapolis, Md. She was a member of Bass Church of South Fork and the Durgon Homemakers Club.
Her husband, Alan L. Drew, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane Hughes of Stonewall, La., and Sandra Parker of Moorefield, W.Va.; a son, Jeffrey K. Silverman of T-Bilis, Ga.; eight grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Luther "Nip" Crites will conduct the funeral 8 p.m. Tuesday at the McKee Funeral Home in Baker, W.Va. Burial will be at the Baltimore National Cemetery in Baltimore.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Nina P. Pierce
Nina Pearl Fitzwater Pierce, 85, of Moorefield, W.Va., died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg, W.Va., where she had lived for the past four years.
Mrs. Pierce was born Dec. 3, 1917, in Fort Run, and was a daughter of the late Abraham Jackson and Mary Catherine Whetzel Fitzwater.
She was employed by Peoples
Drug Stores (now CVS) at their Washington, D.C., headquarters for 43 years. She was a member of the Moorefield Church of the Brethren.
Her husband, Meade L. Pierce, preceded her in death in July 1974.
She is survived by two brothers, Noah Fitzwater and Russell Fitzwater; two sisters, Maxine Shrout and Shirley Hose, all of Moorefield, W.Va.; and a number of nieces, and nephews.
Pastor Harold Garber will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield, W.Va. Burial will follow at the Olivet Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.

Jonathan S. Taylor
Jonathan "Jack" Scott Taylor, 1-day-old son of Scott and Angela Williams Taylor of 301 W. Bank St., Bridgewater, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at the Medical College of Virginia. He was born Oct. 26, 2003, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, William Gregory "Liam" and Michael James Taylor; two sisters, Lauren Elise and Caroline Grace Taylor, all of Bridgewater; his grandparent, Harvey and Barbara Taylor of Belfast, and Robert and Carolyn Williams of Newport News; and great-grandparents, A.M. and Roberta Jackson of Belfast, Violet Whitley and Alice Williams, both of Hampton.
The Rev. Philip Smuland will conduct a service 6 p.m. Tuesday at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg.
Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.
Charles R. Cave Sr.
Charles "Roy" Cave Sr., 76, of 448 Deer Run Road in Stanley, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Cave was born Aug. 13, 1927, in Dark Hollow, and was a son of the late Elza A. Cave and Lula Breeden Cave.
He was a furniture maker with Keller Manufacturing Company for 24 years.
On May 1, 1954, he married Mary Ann Seal, who survives.
He is also survived by a son, Charles R. Cave Jr. of Stanley; two brothers, William Edward Cave of Stanley and Glenn Leo Cave of Sperryville; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pastor John K. Burke will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bradley Funeral Home in Luray. Burial will be at Bethlehem Cemetery in Stanley.

James Butzler
James Butzler, 76, of Harrisonburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Mr. Butzler was born Oct. 23, 1926, in New York, and was a son of the late Paul and Martha Wichael Butzler.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra M. Butzler; a son, Christopher Butzler of Mount Crawford; a daughter, Lori Harless of Grottoes; a brother, John W. Butzler of Bridgewater; a granddaughter; and his caregiver, Willie Mae Butzler of Harrisonburg.
Arrangements are by the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The services will be private.
Wayne F. Smith
Wayne Franklin Smith, 55, of Grottoes, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Smith was born Aug. 26, 1948, in Rockbridge County, and was a son of Lossie Southers Clark of Elkton and the late Henry Clark.
He lived in the area most of his life. He attended Harrisonburg High School and the Harrisonburg Baptist Church. He was an honorary member of the Grottoes Fire Department and a former member of the Harrisonburg Moose Lodge.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1974. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and two Purple Hearts, the second for wounds he received in action near La Kai, Vietnam. He owned and operated Smith & Western Trucking in Grottoes.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Betty Smith; a son, Robert "Robbie" Smith, and a daughter, Katina "Tina" Smith, both of Grottoes; two brothers, Jimmy "Jap" Thompson of Elkton, and Johnny Newell of Buena Vista; two sisters, Alice Osborn of Jacksonville, Fla., and Linda Kronk of Nellies Ford; and three grandchildren.
The Rev. L.J. "Dickie" Campbell Jr. will conduct the funeral 1 p.m. Friday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg with military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 632 of Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the Smith home at any time.

Reba V. Heatwole
Reba Virginia Driver Heatwole, 86, of Stuarts Draft Christian Home, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at the Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville.
Funeral arrangements were pending Tuesday night at Reynolds Funeral Service in Waynesboro.
Violet M. Clarke
Violet Marie Bridges Clarke, 81, of 344 Campbell St., Staunton, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at the Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville.
Mrs. Clarke was born Feb. 4, 1922, in Singers Glen, and was the daughter of the late Keezle May and Treva Blanche Wine Bridges.
She was employed at Western State Hospital as an occupational therapist before retiring. She was a member of Mountain View Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Her husband, Robert Perry Clarke, preceded her in death Oct. 27, 1995.
She is survived by a son, Wayne E. Clarke of Staunton; a daughter, Charline Kirk, of Kingsland, Ga.; a brother, Lawrence E. Bridges Sr. of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with the Revs. William Clark and David Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 this evening at the funeral home.
Robert C. Duke
Robert Campbell "Bob" Duke, 86, a resident of 1110 Woodleigh Court in Harrisonburg, died at 8:26 Tuesday morning, Oct. 14, 2003, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
A son of the late Samuel P. Duke, who was the second president of Madison College, and Lucile Campbell Duke, he was born on Sept. 11, 1917, in Farmville, Va., but lived all of his life in Harrisonburg. He graduated from Harrisonburg High School and received a law degree from the University of Virginia and attended Duke University.
Mr. Duke served as a commissioned officer in the Navy from 1942 to 1945 during World War II, serving principally in the Caribbean and Pacific areas.
He was a real estate broker and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Mr. Duke was a former president of the Harrisonburg Kiwanis Club in 1950; president of Rockingham/Harrisonburg Board of Realtors; president of the Isaac Walton League; was honored for 50 years of membership in the Virginia State Bar Association in 1991; and was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 450. His hobbies were golf, fresh and saltwater fishing and boating. He was a charter member of the Spotswood Country Club and Lakeview Golf Course.
In 1955, he married the former India Webb, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 17, 1977, he married Barbara Norton Sibley, who survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Duke of Connecticut, and Erica White of Georgia; a cousin, Pat Hartman of San Antonio, Texas; and a few nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel Page Duke Jr. and Marshall W. Duke, and a sister, Julia Duke.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with Bishop Frank Nice officiating. Burial will follow in Woodbine Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 Thursday evening at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.

Darrell G. Wilson Jr.
Darrell Gene "Corky" Wilson Jr., 52, of McPherson, Kan., died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at the Cedars Health Care Center in McPherson.
Mr. Wilson was born April 6, 1951, in McPherson, Kan., and was a son of the late Darrell Gene Wilson Sr. and Joyce G. Goss Wilson of McPherson, Kan.
He lived in McPherson most of his life and graduated from McPherson High School in 1970 and attended Mississippi Delta Junior College in Moorhead, Miss. He was a machinist for Kansas Cylinder Head in McPherson; worked for Greenville Head and Block in Greenville, Miss. and S.G. Diesel Power in Marianna, Fla. He later transferred to the Phoenix, Ariz. plant and Northwest Motor Welding in Bridgewater.
In 1988, he became a co-owner and operator of Chrome Plus International in McPherson and was later owner and operator of Wilson Computers in McPherson. He was currently a machinist at Bradbury Company in Moundridge, Kan. He and his wife, Vicki, also had their own DJ business in the McPherson area. He attended the Countryside Covenant Church in McPherson and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 24 in McPherson.
On May 4, 1974, he married Brenda Achenbach. On Nov. 23, 1995, he married Vicki Erskin, who survives.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by four sons, Darrell Gene Wilson III and Jeffrey Scott Wilson, both of McPherson, and Gleif Garrison and Vaughn Garrison, both at home; two sisters, Teri Kubin and Marilyn Swindoll; a brother, Jim Wilson, all of McPherson, Kan.; and three grandchildren.
The Rev. Robb Bloss will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Friday at Countryside Covenant Church in McPherson, Kan. Cremation will follow. A private graveside service will be at the McPherson Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home in McPherson.

Elizabeth G. Comer
Elizabeth G. Comer, 83, of Shenandoah, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at her home.
Mrs. Comer was born in Page County, and was the daughter of the late Virginia Alice Grimsley.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Lebanon Congregational Christian Church.
On July 25, 1942, she married Nelson N. Comer Sr., who survives.
She is also survived by four sons, Nelson N. "Man" Comer Jr., Sherwood Comer, Bruce Comer and Mickey Comer, all of Shenandoah; four daughters, Mary Clary of Broadnax, Dorothy Comer, Della Austin and Deborah Comer, all of Shenandoah; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The Revs. Jim Martin and Gary Edenfield will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Lebanon Congregational Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Sam Comer Cemetery in Shenandoah.
Friends may call at the church after 1 p.m. today, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening.

Mary P. Jenkins
Mary Pauline Jenkins, 89, of Harrisonburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. She had been ill for the past month.
Mrs. Jenkins was born May 31, 1914, in Coxs Mill, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late John R. and Eva Short Nicholson.
She moved to Harrisonburg from Clarksburg, W.Va. in the early 1960s. She had been employed in housekeeping at Liberty House Nursing Home. She also worked for J.C. Penney and in the kitchen at Sunnyside Retirement Home.
On Nov. 29, 1933, she married Paul Jenkins, who preceded her in death Oct. 16, 2001.
She is survived by a son, Charles Lyndall Jenkins of Clinton, Tenn.; three daughters, Linda Lou Tyler, Betty Sue Jenkins and Donna Lea Nazelrod, all of Harrisonburg; a sister, Freda Reed of Strasburg, Ohio; two half sisters, Peggy Gaines of Buckhannon, W.Va., and Betty Mullaney of Cincinnati, Ohio; three half brothers, Robert Nicholson of Weston, W.Va., and Eugene Nicholson and Thomas Nicholson, both of Orange; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Tim Thomas will conduct a memorial service 6 p.m. Friday at Dayspring Church of the Nazarene, where the family will receive friends following the service. Friends may also call at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The casket will be closed. A private burial will be at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
