Virgie D. Bennett
Virgie D. Bennett, 91, of Franklin, W.Va., died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, W.Va.
Mrs. Bennett was born May 7, 1912, in Zigler, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late William McKendree Lambert and Pearlie Etta Moyers Lambert.
She was a cook at Smithfield Grill in Franklin and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 73 years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dennie Herman Hartman, and her second husband, Fred Green Bennett.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Helen Lantz of Penn Laird, and Ruth Allene Warner of Franklin, W.Va.; a stepdaughter, Ruth Mallow of Clearville, Pa.; a son, Franklin Delano Hartman of Timberville; a stepson, Roy E. Hartman of Cherry Grove, W.Va.; three sisters, Catherine Smith of Franklin, W.Va., Retha Radavoich of Baltimore, and Dessie Witt of McKees Rocks, Pa.; three brothers, Leslie Lambert, Edwin Hartman and Charles Hartman, all of Franklin, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Elders David L. Hartman, John Hartman, Woodrow Hartman and Richard G. Warner will conduct the funeral 1 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Franklin Ward. Burial will be at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.
Friends may call at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin, W.Va., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening.

Max R. Ruddle
Max Rubin Ruddle, 87, of Lincolnton, Ga., and formerly of Franklin, W.Va., died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at Lake Crossing Health Center in Appling, Ga.
Mr. Ruddle was born Nov. 15, 1915, in Deer Run, W.Va., and was the son of Isaac Saylor and Verna Catherine Smith Ruddle.
He was a member of the Morningside Baptist Church in Lincolnton, Ga. He was a World War II Army veteran and served in North Africa, the Middle East and Italy. Mr. Ruddle was the former owner of Ruddle Lumber and Flooring Company in Franklin, W.Va., and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
His wife, Pauline Wiseman Ruddle, preceded him in death.
He is survived by three daughters, Karen Zahniser of Valdosta, Ga., Gloria Vitti of Alpharetta, Ga. and Debbie Wade of Lincolnton, Ga.; three sisters, Ruth Dolly of Waco, Texas, Kitty Hammer of Franklin, W.Va. and Betty Heavner of Harrisonburg; a brother, Joe R. Ruddle of Edgewater, Md.; two grandsons; three stepgrandsons; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Revs. Albert Stroup and Larry O. Martin conducted the funeral at Morningside Baptist Church in Lincolnton, Ga. Burial was at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens in Thomson, Ga.

Hattie I. Fadely
Hattie Irene Comer Fadely, 86, of Shenandoah, and formerly of Mount Jackson, passed away at Rockingham Memorial Hospital on Oct. 31, 2003. She was born in Shenandoah on July 24, 1917, and was the daughter of the late John H. and Rebecca Baugher Comer.
She was a member of the Mount Lebanon Congregational Christian Church in Shenandoah. She owned and operated Hattie’s Beauty Salon in Mount Jackson until becoming ill.
On May 18, 1945, she married Thomas C. Fadely, who preceded her in death on July 14, 1971.
She is survived by one brother, Floyd Comer of Shenandoah; four sisters, Sylvia Cave of Elkton, Ruth Kite, Gladys Ferrell, Vista Manuel and her husband, Arthur, all of Shenandoah; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Kemper, Burtis, and Melvin Comer, two sisters, Thelma Herring and Nellie Comer, two half sisters and eight half brothers.
The family will receive friends this (Saturday) evening from 7 to 8 at the Kyger Funeral Home in Shenandoah.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at the Mount Lebanon Congregational Christian Church in Shenandoah with the Rev. Jim Martin officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at the Mount Jackson Cemetery.
William H. Edmonson Jr.
William Harrison Edmonson Jr., 77, died Oct. 30, 2003, at his home, 1170 Westmoreland Drive, Harrisonburg.
Mr. Edmonson was born Jan. 15, 1926, in Buckingham Co., Va. He was the son of the late William H. and Anna Thomas Edmonson of Bridgewater.
He grew up in Bridgewater and was a graduate of Bridgewater College and the Air Force Institute of Technology. He received a master’s degree Ms Ed from James Madison University.
Mr. Edmonson served 20 years in the Air Force as a Communications and Nuclear Weapons Officer and was a Vietnam War veteran. He worked at ComSonics in Harrisonburg, the U.S. Army at Fort Ritchie, Md., and Vent Hill Farms Station in Virginia, retiring in 1991.
Mr. Edmonson served on the Board of Friendship Industries for 12 years. He was an active member of the Exchange Club of Harrisonburg and the Massanutten Amateur Radio Group. He was a member of the Harrisonburg/Rockingham ARC and the Retired Officer’s Association.
He is survived by his wife, Frances A. Edmonson of Harrisonburg; three sons, William F. Edmonson of Middletown, Va., Robert A. Edmonson and wife, Machelle, of Milpitas, Calif., and John P. Edmonson of Harrisonburg; four grandchildren, Marcie G. Edmonson and Kara E. Edmonson of Stephens City and Michael R. Edmonson and Adrienne N. Edmonson of Milpitas, Calif.; two sisters, Gene E. Edmonson of Bridgewater and Eloise R. Edmonson of Chicago, Ill.
A funeral will be held at Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, 2003. Military burial services will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Beatrice I. Yakubow
Beatrice Irene "Sally" Beaman Yakubow, 77, of Lee Street, Moorefield, W.Va., and formerly of Wheeling, W.Va., died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, W.Va.
Mrs. Yakubow was born May 11, 1926, at Roneys Point, W.Va., near Wheeling, and was a daughter of the late Samuel A. and Ethel Elizabeth Rice Beaman.
She attended the Oak Dale Christian Church and had
lived in Moorefield since 1983.
Her husband, Charles Yakubow, preceded her in death May 10, 1983.
She is survived by a son, Charles Michael Yakubow of Moorefield, W.Va.; a daughter, Beverly I. Carr of Rig, W.Va.; a sister, Bessie Davidson of Corpus Christi, Texas; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Lynn Rohrbaugh will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield, W.Va. Burial will follow at the Newhouse Cemetery in Rig, W.Va.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elsie M. Hood
Elsie Mae Hood, 87, of Avante at Harrisonburg Nursing Home, and formerly of Middletown, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Hood was born Dec. 13, 1915, in the Bluemont community of Loudoun County, and was the daughter of the late Scott and Minnie Pomeroy.
She was a homemaker and a waitress.
Her husband, William W. Hood, preceded her in death.
She is survived by three stepdaughters, Lana H. Bennett of Harrisonburg, Barbara H. Propst of Gainesville and Pat Hood Rush of Strasburg; a stepson, Richard S. Hood of Waterford; seven stepgrandchilden and two stepgreat-grandchilden.
The Rev. J. Alexander will conduct the funeral 1 p.m. Sunday at the Stover Funeral Home in Strasburg. Burial will be at Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester.

John Vance
John Vance, 62, of Baltimore, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Joseph Ritchey Hospice Center in Baltimore.
Mr. Vance was born July 11, 1941, in Riverton, W.Va., and was a son of the late Fred Vance and Ruby Marie Harper Vance.
He was a heavy equipment operator for J&L Vance in Baltimore.
He is survived by a daughter, Laura Vance of Baltimore; a longtime companion, Naomi Williams of Buena Vista; eight sisters, Elaine Swick of Pasadena, Md., Margaret Ferris, Maxine Morris and Sue Ramsey, all of Glen Burnie, Md., Edith Good, Irene Stump and Donna Herb, all of Upper Tract, W.Va., and JoAnn Plaugher of Franklin, W.Va.; seven brothers, Jack Vance and Frederick "Mancie" Vance, both of Glen Burnie, Md., Richard Vance and Randy Vance, both of Eastern Shore, Md., Tom Vance of Upper Tract, W.Va., Bob Vance, Fort Seybert, W.Va. and Jerry Vance of Baltimore; and one grandson.
The Rev. Stanley Kile will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Sunday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, W.Va. Burial will be at the Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract, W.Va.

Elva L. Goldizen
Elva Lee Goldizen, 77, of Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg, W.Va., died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, W.Va.
She was born Oct. 24, 1926, in Petersburg, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Charles Simpson and Beulah Feaster Simpson.
She was a homemaker and a former employee at the Petersburg Dairy Queen. She was a member of North Mill Creek Baptist Church.
She was married to Kelly Goldizen of Petersburg, W.Va.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Lee Ours of Petersburg, W.Va., and Donna Sue Carr of Maysville, W.Va.; three sons, Jerry Allen Goldizen, Wayne K. Goldizen and Bill G. Goldizen, all of Petersburg, W.Va.; two sisters, Mae A. Kisamore of Petersburg and Ireda Ours of Manassas; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Eston Lee Cullers will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Monday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, W.Va. Burial will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg.

Grace Alger
Grace Alger, 71, of Quicksburg, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, after a two-year battle with cancer. At the time of her death, she was living in Hampton with her daughter.
Mrs. Alger was the daughter of the late Frank Clarence and Virginia Easter Durrer Bambers.
Her husband of 41 years, Avis C. Alder, preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Thiebaud of Hampton; son, Michael Alger of Quicksburg, and son, Ricky Alger of New Market; two sisters, Erma O’Neal of Luray and Betty Bambers of New Market; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The Rev. Thomas Rothgeb will conduct a graveside service 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mount Jackson Cemetery.
Friends and family will gather at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Mount Jackson from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
Owen J. Davis
Owen Johnson Davis, 85, of Douglassville, Pa., died Nov. 2, 2003, at his home. Mr. Davis was born April 8, 1918, in Elkton, and was the son of the late John Amos and Pearl Johnson Davis.
Mr. Davis worked at Martin Marietta in Baltimore, Md., for 25 years and then retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp. in Sparrows Point, Md., in 1981. He served in the United Sates Army Air Corp. during peace time.
On Oct. 22, 1941, he married the former Mildred Marie Jenkins of Shenandoah, who preceded him in death on Nov. 8, 1996.
He is survived by two daughters, Karen Sue Adams and husband, William Kenneth, Harrisonburg, Jane Fizz and husband, Walter, Douglassville, with whom he lived and who was his caregiver for 15 years; four sisters, Evelyn Gaffney, Baltimore, Md., Helen Snoddy, Staunton, Eleanor Harrison, Elkton, Geraldine Gills, Columbus, Miss.; one grandchild, Shawn Alexander Fizz, Douglassville.
Besides his wife, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by two brothers, Frederick M. Davis, Amos V. Davis.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton. The Rev. Lewis E. Everline and Rev. Stephen Creech will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery in Shenandoah.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
