Sally McClanahan
Merchant

Sally Caton McClanahan, 80, of Orlean died Feb. 4, 1998.

Mrs. McClanahan was born in Fauquier County on Aug. 9, 1917, the daughter of the late James O. and Alice Thaw Fox Caton. She owned and operated a general store on Springs Road near Turnbull until her retirement in October 1973. The store had been operated by her family for more than 75 years when she retired. She was a member of Warrenton United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Landon McClanahan.

She is survived by a daughter, Sally M. Strother of Orlean; two granddaughters and three great-grandsons.

The Rev. John Chadsey led a graveside service Feb. 7 at Warrenton Cemetery.

Gloria Abell
Resident of The Plains

Gloria Ann Abell, 37, of The Plains died Feb. 6, 1997.

Ms. Abell was the daughter of Forrest Abell of The Plains and Mary Abell of Warrenton.

She is survived by her parents and five uncles, Charles, Elmer, Roger, Richard and James Abell.

The Rev. Bill Tatum led a funeral service Feb. 11 at Royston Funeral Home in Middleburg. Interment was in Middleburg Memorial Cemetery.

Pearl Hitt
Culpeper resident

Dorothy Pearl McDonald Hitt, 89, of Culpeper, died Feb. 9, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Hitt was born Jan. 27, 1909, in Hume, the daughter of the late Lewis McDonald and Sally McDonald. She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Campbell Hitt, and a grandson.

She is survived by three sons, Lewis F. Hitt of Clearbrook, Buster T. Hitt of Woodville, and Lee Hitt of Culpeper; three daughters, Gertrude H. Kelley of Amissville, Elizabeth Jenkins of Culpeper and Betty Ann Butler of Clearbrook; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Robert J. Donnely led a funeral service Feb. 11 at Found and Sons Chapel in Culpeper. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.

Timothy Conroy
Horseman

Timothy Conroy, 93, of Warrenton died Feb. 6, 1998 at Warrenton Overlook Care Center.

Mr. Conroy was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Warrenton. He was whipper-in for the Warrenton Hunt Club from 1933 until 1947. He was also manager of Ashland Farm and huntsman for the Ashland Bassets.

He is survived by three daughters: Catherine Kalmbach of Charlottesville, Patricia Hegwood and Barbara Peyton, both of Warrenton; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Freeman Conroy; his parents, Thomas Conroy and Mary Katherine Conroy; and a sister, Mary Ellen Driscoll.

The Rev. Michael Bazan led funeral services Feb. 9 at St. John the Evangelist Church. Interment was at Warrenton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus, St. John the Evangelist Church, 271 Winchester St., Warrenton, Va., 20186.

Wilsie Davis III
Engineer

Wilsie Jeter Davis III, 75, of Casanova died Feb. 10, 1998 at Fauquier Hospital.

Mr. Davis was born July 24, 1922 in Freeman, W.Va. He worked as a mechanical engineer with Hercules Powder Co. in Hopewell, Va. He was a member of the Warrenton Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Laprad Davis of Casanova; four daughters: Suzette Davis of Warrenton, Diane Davis McMichael of Broad Run, Terri Davis Robinson of Hopewell and Lorri Davis of Casanova; five granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilsie Jeter Davis Jr. and Bessie Davis.

The Rev. Sam P. Jones will lead funeral services at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 1998 at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. Interment will follow at Bright View Cemetery in Warrenton.

Robert Boggs
Equipment operator
Robert James Boggs, 68, of Midland, died Jan. 30, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.

Mr. Boggs was born July 22, 1929, in Pound. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Korea. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver with Ringle Express of Fowler, Ind.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie Victoria Boggs of Midland; four daughters: Judy Todd of Auburntown, Tenn., Deborah Lynn of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Linda Beasley of Louisa and Dorann Lewis of Madison; five sons: Charles E. Morris of Smithfield, Robert Morris of Leesburg, David Morris of Blountville, Tenn., Robert J. Boggs Jr. of Calverton and Edward Boggs of Manassas; three brothers: William Kyle Boggs of Abingdon, Berkeley Boggs of Midland and Numan Boggs of Remington; two sisters, Angie Weakley of Ruckersville and Pat Hott of Burlington, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

The Rev. Lester Horton led a funeral service Feb. 2 at Moser Chapel in Warrenton. Interment was in Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper.

Lunquest Robertson
Telephone repairman

Lunquest G. Robertson, 80, of Catlett, died Jan. 28, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.

Mr. Robertson was born in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 15, 1917, the son of the late Lee B. Robertson and Delana Robertson.

He was a retired central office repairman at C&P Telephone Co. in Washington, D.C. Mr. Robertson was a member of the CWA union in Washington, D.C. He was a former resident of Arlington, where he was a life-member of the Volunteer Fire Department House No. 4. He was a veteran of World War II having been honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. He was a member of the American Legion Post 139 in Arlington and a member of the Wesleyan United Methodist Church in Calverton.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Milstead Roberston of Catlett and a sister, Magnus R. Leckler of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

The Rev. William B. Day Jr. led a funeral service Jan. 31 at Moser Funeral Home. Interment was in Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington.

Diane Rawls
Librarian

Diane Kathryn Rawls, 53, of Warrenton, died Jan. 29, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.

Mrs. Rawls was born in Minnesota on Jan. 1, 1945. She was a former librarian at Vint Hill Farms Station. Prior to her employment there she had been a teacher in the Minnesota public schools, and before that was an executive assistant with the Josten Co.

She is survived by her mother, Luverna Wedin of Cannon Falls, Minn., and a son, James D. Stitzel of Warrenton. She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin F. Wedin.

The funeral service and interment were in Cannon Falls, Minn.

William Tracy
New York Times printer

William D. Tracy, 96, of Warrenton died Jan. 29, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.

Mr. Tracy was born in New York on Dec. 13, 1901, the son of the late Mary C. and William D. Tracy Sr. He was a retired printer and Linotype operator, having worked for The New York Times for 41 years. He was a member of the New York Times Typographical Union No. 6. He was a resident of Fauquier County for the last 8-1/2 years, and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Warrenton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary C. Tracy.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary Ellen McClure of Bethpage, N.Y., and Catherine Cline of Warrenton; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Father Michael Bazan led a Mass of Christian Burial Feb. 2 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Warrenton. Interment was in Bright View Cemetery.

Branson Cooke
Upholsterer and wood finisher

Branson Albert Cooke, 93, of Culpeper died Feb. 2, 1998, at Culpeper Health Care Center.

Mr. Cooke was born in Virginia on July 25, 1904, the son of the late Fannie Bell Nichols and Robert Cooke. He was a retired upholsterer and wood finisher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Susan Baker Cooke.

He is survived by a daughter, Lois Baker of Culpeper; two brothers, John Cooke of Fredericksburg and Carl Cooke of Warrenton; two sisters, Edna Wince of Warrenton and Sadie Durham of Culpeper; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Vernon Delong led a graveside service Feb. 4 at Amissville Baptist Church Cemetery. Interment was in the church cemetery.
