Alice Cindy Porter, 86, of Warrenton, died Jan. 1, 1998, at Warrenton Overlook Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Porter was born July 5, 1911. She was a seamstress.
She is survived by two sons, Conway M. Porter of Warrenton and Warren N. Porter of Libertytown, Md.; two daughters, June M. Penn of Warrenton and Pat Lightfoot of Gainesville; 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Sidney Jones led a funeral service Jan. 3 at Poplar Forks Baptist Church in Warrenton. Interment was in the Tapscott family cemetery.

Eden Grimes
Lions Club president
Eden Hale Grimes, 69, of Bealeton, died Dec. 31, 1997, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Mr. Grimes was born Oct. 26, 1928, in Midland, a son of the late Hale Wellington Grimes and Laurie Mae Grimes. He was a self-employed welder most of his life. He was a member of the Remington Lions Club where he was serving as president at the time of his death. He was a member of Midland Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his wife, June H. Grimes of Bealeton; two daughters, Joan Hower of Manassas and Paula Taylor of Remington; five sisters: Anna Loy and Laura Stewart, both of Winchester, Ruby Myers and Betty Furr, both of Bealeton, and Linda Oatman of Indiana; a brother, Chauncey Grimes of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The Remington Lions Club held a memorial service Jan. 2 at Moser Funeral Home. Elder Rodger Frazier led a funeral service Jan. 3 at Midland Church of the Brethren. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Arlene Burton

Arlene K. Burton, 73, of Broad Run, died Dec. 30, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Burton was born Jan. 10, 1924, in Giles County, the daughter of the late Oscar A. Burton and Samantha Sexton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar A. Burton and a grandchild, Samantha Sexton.
She is survived by four sons, Arthur L. Burton of Catlett, Gerald W. Burton of Culpeper, James F. Burton of Broad Run and Oscar S. Burton of Leesburg; two daughters, Betty Jean Perdue of Romney, W.Va., and Peggy Jean Runyon of Richardsville; two sisters, Marie McClellan of Pembroke and Annie Harris of Bumpass.
A funeral service took place Jan. 2 at Moser Chapel in Warrenton. Interment was in Warrenton Cemetery.
Nelson Burke
Cabinetmaker
Nelson Henry Burke, 60, of Warrenton, died Dec. 30, 1997.
Mr. Burke was born in Warrenton on Oct. 28, 1937. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as cabinetmaker and carpenter for the U.S. government. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry William Burke.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Burke of Warrenton; his mother, Virgie B. Burke of Warrenton; and a brother, Roy Burke of Vienna.
The Rev. James Branyon led a memorial service Jan. 4 at Moser Funeral Home.

Edith Duffield
Former Fauquier resident
Edith Lorraine Duffield, 70, of Cleveland, died Jan. 1, 1998, in Cleveland.
Mrs. Duffield was born May 22, 1927, in Fauquier County, a daughter of the late Martha F. Pearson.
She is survived by her husband, Everett O. Duffield; four daughters: Mary Duffield and Patty Karr, both of Cleveland; Eshia Knight of Parkersburg, W. Va., and Francis Atsberger of Ft. San Lucie, Fla.; seven sons: Everett, Wayne, Bobby, Charles, David, James and Johnnie Duffield, all of Cleveland; 35 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service took place Jan. 5 at Royston Funeral Home in Marshall. Interment was in the Mount Carmel Church Cemetery in Clarke County.
Thomas Seay
Accountant and farmer
Thomas Edward Seay, 49, of Warrenton died of cancer Dec. 20, 1997, at Fauquier Hospital.
Born Oct. 14, 1948, in Arlington, Mr. Seay was a partner in the Washington, D.C.-based accounting firm of Bond Beebe. He and his wife Linda also owned and resided at a beef cattle farm in Warrenton.
Mr. Seay graduated from Wakefield High School in Arlington in 1966 and was a 1971 accounting graduate of Benjamin Franklin University in Washington, D.C. He joined Bond Beebe in 1971 and became an authority on employee benefits, spending much of his time auditing labor unions. He was a frequent speaker at the George Meany Center for Labor Studies. He was a past chairman of the accountants committee of the International Foundation of Employee Benefits.
His hobbies included restoring antique automobiles and participating in blackjack tournaments in Las Vegas.
He is survived by his wife, Linda M. Seay of Warrenton; two sons, Donald C. Seay of Falls Church and Christopher N. Seay of Warrenton; a daughter, Jennifer C. Chatman of Centreville, and a grandson.
Services took place Dec. 22 at Everly Funeral Home in Fairfax and on Dec. 23 at Fairfax United Methodist Church. Interment was in National Memorial Park in Falls Church.

Merle Young
Navy chaplain
Merle Newcomer Young, 87, of Warrenton, died Dec. 30, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Young was born in North Dakota on March 29, 1910. He was a retired captain with the U.S. Navy, who served as a chaplain. He served on the USS Enterprise during World War II. He was the senior chaplain at the US Naval Academy. He was the head of the Chaplains School in Newport, R.I. At his retirement he was the senior chaplain for the 11th Naval District Headquarters in San Diego, Calif.
He is survived by his wife, D. Beulah Young of Warrenton; two daughters, Marilyn Ricketts of Warrenton and Donna Labot of Marietta, Ohio; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service took place Jan. 7 at Arlington National Cemetery.
Patricia French

Patricia A. French, 41, of Warrenton, died Dec. 30, 1997, at Hospice of Northern Virginia.
Mrs. French was born in Washington, D.C., on July 18, 1956. She worked as an executive assistant with the U.S. Geological Survey in Reston. She was a member of Warrenton Bible Fellowship.
She is survived by her husband, George H. French; a son, Sterling French, and a daughter, Aspen French, all of Warrenton; her parents, Wendall and Dottie Mickle of Fredericksburg; and a brother, Greg Mickle of Alexandria.
The Rev. Angus McDonald led a funeral service Jan. 3 at Moser Chapel in Warrenton. Interment was in Bright View Cemetery.

Clifton Hurst

Clifton Parke Hurst, 90, of Warrenton died Jan. 23, 1999, at Warrenton Overlook Care Center.
Mr. Hurst was born in Warrenton on April 24, 1908, a son of the late George W. and Dallie Holder Hurst. He was a graduate of Warrenton High School and the Bowman School of Watchmaking in Lancaster, Pa. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He owned and operated Hurst Jewelers on Main Street in Warrenton until his retirement. The business had been operated by his family for 101 years at its closing.
Mr. Hurst was a longtime member of the Warrenton Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Warrenton Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret C. Hurst of Warrenton.
The Rev. Carl Schmahl and the Rev. J. Richard Winter led a graveside service Jan. 25 at Warrenton Cemetery.

Lurie Sanders

Lurie M. Sanders, 75, of Remington, formerly of Manassas, died Jan. 20, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Sanders was born in Buckingham County on May 26, 1923, the daughter of the late Crockett Sloane and Lucretia Sloane. She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Washington Sanders and a son, George Crockett "G.C." Sanders.
She is survived by three daughters: Janice Corum of Leesburg, Sharron Wolfe of Remington and Marjorie Sanders of Greensea, S.C.; a son, Daniel Sanders of Woodbridge; 15 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service took place Jan. 23 at the Kingdom Hall.
