Jerry Robin Shafer, 39, of Culpeper died Jan. 6, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Shafer was born Oct. 18, 1958, in Warrenton, son of the late Robert Lee and Elsie Shafer. He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked as a computer programmer for Ross Industries in Midland.
He is survived by his wife, Janelle Dawn Shafer of Remington; two sons, Eric Shafer and Jeremy Shafer, both of Warrenton; a daughter, Emilie Shafer of Remington; two sisters, Nancy Shite of Goochland and Linda Shafer of Warrenton; and three brothers: Bobby Brown of Alexandria, James Brown of Orlean and Kenneth Shafer of Nokesville.
The Rev. J.R. Winter led a graveside service Jan. 10 at Warrenton Cemetery.
John Logan Sr.
Construction worker
John Bowles Logan Sr., 60, of Warrenton died Jan. 11, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.
Mr. Logan was born Oct. 3, 1937. He worked as a pipe layer for Hazel Construction Co. He was a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Warrenton.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne C. Logan of Warrenton; two sons, John B. Logan Jr. of Warrenton and Michael Logan of Manassas; three daughters: Kim Logan Grant, Pamela Logan and Deborah Logan, all of Warrenton; six sisters: Priscilla Washington, Peggy Matthews and Ella Morton, all of Warrenton, Pearl Staplefoot of Manassas, Madeline Johnson and Mary Logan, both of Washington, D.C.; and five grandchildren.
The Rev. David Carter Sr. and the Rev. Hildrom Fisher will lead a funeral service at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at First Baptist Church in Warrenton. Interment will be in Warrenton Cemetery.
Blanche Jackson
Culpeper resident
Blanche Jackson, 78, of Culpeper died Jan. 12, 1998, at Culpeper Hospital.
Mrs. Jackson was born May 14, 1919.
She is survived by a son, Robert F. Jackson of Culpeper; five daughters: Ethel Y. Williams of Manassas, Blanche E. Shanks of Landover, Md., Sarah M. Jackson, Emily C. Poles and Cormilla Poles, all of Culpeper; a sister, Louise Carter of Round Hill; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at Joynes Funeral Home in Warrenton. The Rev. Forest Freeman and Elder Lindsay Green will lead a funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Bethel Baptist Church in Amissville. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
C. Irvin Garrett

Charles Irvin Garrett Sr., 93, of Warrenton died Feb. 15, 1999.
Mr. Garrett was born May 31, 1905, near Bethel, the son of the late Henry A. and Lelia Maltimore Garrett. He began working as a printer at The Fauquier Democrat while still in high school. Except for a few months in 1919 when he worked for the short-lived Warrenton Times , Mr. Garrett spent the rest of his working career, 54 years, at The Democrat and its commercial printing division, Virginia Publishing Co.
In 1926 he married the former Virginia Woodzell.
Mr. Garrett became printing superintendent in 1945, responsible for the printing of two trade magazines, The Livestock Breeder Journal and the Eastern Breeder, as well as The Democrat. In addition to being a master of the printing business, Mr. Garrett pioneered the use of photographs in the newspaper, many of which he took himself. He retired in 1970.
Mr. Garrett served three terms on the Warrenton Town Council and one on the Warrenton Board of Zoning Appeals. He was a charter member of the Warrenton Volunteer Fire Co. and served a term as president of the Warrenton Chamber of Commerce.
He belonged to the Warrenton Lions Club, Mount Carmel Masonic Lodge and the Warrenton Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir. He was on the board of directors of the Fauquier Historical Society and helped to create the Old Jail Museum.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Virginia W. Garrett; a son, Charles I Garrett Jr. of Warrenton; three grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service took place Feb. 17 at Warrenton Cemetery.

Carl Russell

Carl Jackson "Jack" Russell, 57, of Marshall died Feb. 9, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Russell was born April 5, 1941, in Marshall, a son of the Bessie B. Russell of Marshall and the late Lusby C. Russell. He was a service technician with the Sears Roebuck Co. for 19 years.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sons: Frederick D. Russell of Phoenix, Ariz., David W. Russell of Camp Verde, Ariz., and Kevin T. Russell of Arab, Ala.; two stepdaughters, Ginger D. Hawkins of Culpeper and Charlene E. Breeden of Arab, Ala.; two sisters: Joyce Wall of Marshall, and Drusilla "Skippy" Barb of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a brother, George "Buddy" Russell of Blacksburg and nine grandchildren.
The Rev. Arthur Rajanayakam will led a funeral service Feb. 11 at Marshall United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall United Methodist Church Parsonage Fund or the American Heart Association.

Elmer James Cooke, 84, of Amissville died Feb. 11, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Cooke was born in Rappahannock County on Dec. 19, 1914, the son of the late Clarence Clifford and Bertha Corbin Cooke. He was a member of Amissville Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hazel Ardell Putnam Cooke; a son, James Randolph Cook of Amissville; two daughters, Peggy C. Menefee of Bealeton and Doris Jenkins of Rixeyville; a brother, Harry Cooke of Viewtown; a sister, Virginia Bihl of Lancaster, Pa.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Glascock

Dorothy Furr Glascock, 68, of Marshall, died Feb. 15, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Glascock was born in Loudoun County on July 14, 1930, the daughter of the late William and Nettie Kelly Furr. She worked for many years for the Keyser clothing store in Marshall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Glascock, and her son, Paul M. Glascock Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandy G. Owens of The Plains; two sons, Donnie T. Glascock of Marshall and Clint C. Glascock of Berkley Springs, W.Va.; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Randy Daniels will lead a funeral service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Royston Funeral Home in Marshall. Interment will be in Marshall Cemetery.
Betty Albaugh

Betty Jane Albaugh, 76, of Warrenton died Feb. 13, 1999, at Warrenton Overlook Care Center.
Mrs. Albaugh was born in Illwaco, Wash., on Feb. 13, 1923, the daughter of the late Darus S. Westmoreland and Jenny Westmoreland. She was a graduate of the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C. She was a second grade teacher at P.B. Smith Elementary School until her retirement in 1993. She was a member of Warrenton Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Ridgely Albaugh of Dunkirk, Md., and Lance J. Albaugh of Amissville; a daughter, Shari Albaugh of Warrenton; a sister, Peggy Bennett of Springfield, Ark.; and two grandchildren.
The Rev. Sam P. Jones will lead a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at Warrenton Baptist Church.

Jean Goode Shoemaker, 77, of Delaplane died Feb. 13, 1999, at Fauquier Hospital.
Mrs. Shoemaker was born in Delaplane on July 15, 1921, the daughter of the late Richard U. and Jean Moss Goode.
She is survived by her husband, Philip S. Shoemaker; four sons: Richard G. and Robert F. Shoemaker, both of Delaplane, Philip B. Shoemaker of Seabeck, Wash., and John R. Shoemaker of Culpeper; two brothers, Richard Goode of Boyce, and John Goode of Richmond; and eight grandchildren.
The Rev. Linnea Turner will lead a graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Leeds Church Cemetery in Markham.

Ora Rachel Ritchie, 75, of Warrenton died Feb. 10, 1999, at Culpeper Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Ritchie was born in Brentsville on Feb. 6, 1924, the daughter of the late Ervin C. Spitzer and Annie Cornwell. She was the widow of the late William W. Ritchie.
She is survived by a son, Larry W. Ritchie of Warrenton; two sisters, Helen Michael and Shirley Galladay, both of Manassas; and one grandson.
The Rev. Marvin C. Cook led a funeral service Feb. 16, at Clore-Geest Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Culpeper National Cemetery.
