Norman Pearson Sr.

Norman Carter Pearson Sr., 80, of Warrenton died April 8, 1998, at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., after a battle with leukemia.
A native of Fauquier County, Mr. Pearson was born on Aug. 15, 1917, the son of the late Edward L. and Cora Mae McCormick Pearson. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1934. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in September of 1939, served in Cuba, the Caribbean and the South Pacific before his release from active duty in January 1946. He remained in the active Marine Corps Reserves until August 1977.
Mr. Pearson graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass., with a bachelor of science degree in physics in 1952 and electrical engineering in 1954. Following graduation from MIT he began his career in the federal government, retiring in 1977.
He was an avid sportsman and conservationist, active in the Izaak Walton League of America and the Randy Carter Chapter of the Float Fishermen of Virginia. He served on the Fauquier County Planning Commission from 1980 to '84, working to preserve the county's open spaces. He also served as an auxiliary member of the Warrenton Volunteer Fire Co. for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary S. Pearson; two sons, Norman C. Pearson of Charlottesville and Jeffrey D. Pearson of Warrenton; five brothers: Rolfe, Eugene, Vernon and Raye, all of The Plains, and Russell of Berryville; two sisters, Dorothy Mae Hamilton of Fredericksburg and Faye Morris of Warrenton; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
A memorial service took place April 11 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Warrenton. Interment was in Leeds Cemetery.

Evelyn Tyler

Evelyn Coffey Tyler, 82, of Richmond died April 8, 1998.
Mrs. Tyler was the daughter of the late W.W. Coffey and Eva E. Coffey. She worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, Capital Chemical Co. and Gundlach Plumbing and Heating. She was a member of Fairmount Christian Church for 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John W. Tyler Sr.
She is survived by a son, John W. Tyler Jr. of Warrenton; two sisters, Elizabeth C. Durrer of Ruckersville and Louise C. Marshall of Charlottesville, and two grandchildren.
The Rev. Harry R. Gill led a funeral service April 10 at Bennett Funeral Home in Richmond. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville.

Virginia Lee Ball, 61, of Warrenton died April 7, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.
Mrs. Ball was born July 7, 1936.
She is survived by four daughters, Patricia Lewis, Betty Ball and Elaine Ball, all of Warrenton, and Margaret James of Reston; two sons, Newton Ball and Linwood Ball, both of Warrenton; a sister, Anna Lee Pinn of Warrenton; 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pastor Shep Bridgett led a funeral service April 11 at St. James Baptist Church in Bealeton. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Todd Matthew Palmer, 16, of Gerrardstown, W.Va., died April 9, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Palmer was born in Charlestown, W.Va., on Oct. 19, 1981, the son of Nelson E. and Peggy Edwards Palmer of Gerrardstown, W. Va., and Paul F. and Myra Palmer Jr. of Phoenix. He was a sophomore at Musselman High School in Berkley County.
He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Wanda L. Barrera of Leesburg and Kimberly A. Macias of Gerrardstown, W.Va., and his paternal grandfather, Paul V. Palmer Sr.

Lydia Armstrong Spiker, 82, of Leesburg died April 7, 1998, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.
Mrs. Spiker was born in Virginia on Jan. 16, 1916, the daughter of the late E. Brent Armstrong and Ellice Button Armstrong.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Armstrong, a sister, Lucy Browning, and two daughters, Gloria Ann Spiker and Lydia Catherine Spiker.
She is survived by a son, Curtis Spiker Jr., a brother, Franklin Armstrong, a sister, Ellice Browning, and five grandchildren.

Dominic D. Cerato, 83, of Warrenton died April 13, 1999, at Fauquier Hospital.
Mr. Cerato was born in Neuma, Iowa, on Feb. 3, 1916, the son of the late David B. Cerato and Antonia Garbin Cerato. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II. He was a member of the John D. Sudduth American Legion Post 72. He was the owner of Cerato Electric for 20 years.
He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Cerato of Warrenton; two sisters, Angela Simms of Kansas City, Kan., and Catherine Helffrin of Rio Verder, Ariz., and a brother, John Cerato of Neuma, Ariz.
The Rev. Michael Bazan will lead a funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday, April 16, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will be in Warrenton Cemetery.

John Heflin

John R. Heflin, 80, of Amissville, died April 8, 1999, at Fauquier Hospital.
Mr. Heflin was born in Virginia on July 12, 1918, the son of the late Mitchell Heflin and Cynthia Heflin. He was a laborer and a member of the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
He is survived by his wife, Viola A. Heflin of Amissville; three daughters: Barbara Voorhies and Helen Dunford, both of Amissville, and Betty Weaver of Marshall; four sons: Roger Heflin of Delaplane, Johnny Heflin of Linden, Bruce Heflin of Marshall and James Heflin of Amissville; six sisters: Dorothy Ann Stanton of Culpeper, Ella Putnam of Marshall, Irene Farkas of Opal, Hazel Cranford of Amissville, Mary Andrews of Vienna and Gracie Wilson of Orlean; a brother, Herman Heflin of Maryland; many grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Floyd Thomas Bragg, 66, of Stephens City, died April 9, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Bragg was born in Fauquier County on Oct. 31, 1932, the son of the late Virgil A. Bragg and Charlotte Bragg. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-57. He was retired from his employment as a maintenance worker for the Arlington County School Board.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Jean Bragg of Stephens City; three sons: Danny Bragg of Rehobeth Beach, Del., Donnie Bragg of Jeffersonton and Glen Bragg of Winchester; a daughter, Debbie Breihan of Stephens City; three sisters: Evelyn Boserman of Arlington, Iola B. Hibbs of Warrenton and Edith Merchant of Arlington; a brother, Roy Bragg of Stephens City, and eight grandchildren.

Annie Mae Kenney, 63, of Warrenton died April 11, 1999, at Fauquier Hospital.
Mrs. Kenney was born Jan. 6, 1936.
She is survived by her husband, William Kenney of Warrenton; three daughters: Edith Yates of Durham, N.C., Patricia Lacey and Antoinette Yates, both of Warrenton; four sons: William Yates, Gregory Yates, Jerome Yates and Douglas Yates, all of Warrenton; a sister, Gwendolyn Smoot of Bealeton; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

Kelly James Parker, 29, of Midland, died April 8, 1999, at Sleepy Hollow Manor Nursing Home in Annandale.
Miss Parker was born in Columbus, Ohio, on Jan. 27, 1970. She had worked as a convenience store clerk.
She is survived by her mother, Kathryn Parker of Nashville, Tenn., and a sister, Terri Grogan of Nashville, Tenn.
