Bernard Reid
Building supervisor
Bernard Sterling Reid, 64, of Fredericksburg died June 16, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Reid was born in Orlean on July 16, 1934, a son of the late George W. Reid Sr. and Marjorie Bragg Reid. He was retired as a building supervisor for Fairfax County Public Schools after more than 20 years of service.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge in Fredericksburg, where he had lived for more than 15 years. Mr. Reid enjoyed bird hunting and saltwater fishing. He had at one time trained bird dogs for hunting.
He is survived by his former wife,. Verna Mae Reid of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Marjorie A. Fishback and Josephine Reid, both of Warrenton; and three brothers: Martin A. Reid of Sparta, Wisc., George Wesley Reid and Eugene W. Reid Sr., both of Warrenton.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James "Shorty" Reid.
The Rev. Barbara J. Minter led a funeral service June 20 at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. Interment was in Warrenton Cemetery.

Jason Pierce

Jason Hamilton Pierce, 24, of Nashville, Tenn., died June 2, 1998.
Mr. Pierce attended Bradley Elementary School in Warrenton, Marshall Junior High School in Marshall, Fauquier High School and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
He is survived by his mother, Helen Ann Hamilton Pierce of Rectortown; his grandmother, Mrs. David F. Hamilton of Mendon, Mass.; two sisters, Rebecca Towndsend Pierce of Nashville, Tenn., and Constance Huston Pierce of Arlington; and a brother, Dr. Robert A. Pierce of Arlington. He was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Robert K. Pierce of Smithfield, N.C.
A funeral service took place June 7 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Middleburg.
Joan Shelly
Former Midland resident
Joan R. Shelly, 66, of Ashburn, formerly of Midland, died June 13, 1998, at Bethesda Medical Center.
Mrs. Shelly was born in Bayonne, N.J., on Sept. 23, 1931. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald G. Shelly, and a daughter, Karen L. Shelly Duggan.
She is survived by four children: Kim Shelly and Kerri J. Shelly, both of Ashburn, Kevin Shelly of Oakton, Keith Shelly of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Lee Sullivan of North Carolina; and two grandchildren.

Stella Cassiano

Stella Cassiano, 82, of Warrenton died June 13, 1998, at Blue Ridge Christian Home in Bealeton.
Mrs. Cassiano was born in New York City on March 4, 1916, the daughter of the late Pasquale DiMinno and Angelina DiMinno. She worked as an administrative assistant. She also was an amateur opera singer who performed in the New York area. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Warrenton.
She is survived by her husband, Fortunato S. Cassiano of Warrenton; a daughter, Virginia C. Asciolla of Marshall; a sister, Helen DiMinno of Yonkers, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.
Father John Riley led a funeral service June 16 at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. Interment was in Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas.
Nancy Swart
Aldie resident
Nancy Ruth Swart, 79, of Aldie died June 8, 1998, at Columbia Reston Hospital in Reston.
Mrs. Swart was the wife of the late William Martin Swart.
She is survived by three sons: James Ira "Buck" Swart of The Plains, Fred Louis Swart of Aldie and William Adrian Swart of Sterling; a brother, Harold Kestner of Centreville; five sisters, Anna Williams of Longwood, Fla., Ival Craun of Woolworth, La., Inez Scuro of Shingle Springs, Calif., Virginia Edwards of Charlestown, W.Va., and Helen Poland of Ashburn; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Stephen Smith-Cobbs will lead a funeral service at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at Royston Funeral Home in Middleburg. Interment will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Upperville.
Kurtis Lusty
Accountant
Kurtis D. Lusty, 73, of Remington died June 1, 1998.
Mr. Lusty was orphaned at his birth in Canada in 1926. He came to the United States as a teenager and entered military service during World War II. He worked as an accountant for several local firms. After retiring from Ross Industries in 1992, he continued to assist small businesses.
He was a member of the American Legion, a ranked bridge player and a crossword puzzle expert.
His lifelong friend and housemate, Russell C. Bowen, preceded him in death in 1995.
A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at Remington cemetery. A reception will follow at the Remington Volunteer Fire Co. hall.

Yancey Redd
Building engineer
Yancey E. Redd, 89, of Catlett died June 6, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.
Mr. Redd was born in Catlett on Oct. 27, 1908, the son of the late Joseph F. Redd and Sadie Bird Redd. He worked as a building engineer. A lifelong resident of Catlett, he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret C. Redd of Catlett; two sons, Samuel E. Redd of Silver Spring, Md., and Paul L. Redd of Miami Beach, Fla., and two grandchildren.
The Rev. Patricia Olson led a funeral service June 10 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Interment was in Catlett Cemetery.
Margot White
Bookkeeper
Margot J. White, 62, of Woodlawn, Md., died June 2, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. White was born in Germany on April 18, 1936, the daughter of the late Christian Gaub and Elizabeth Kansy Gaub. She was a bookkeeper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald E. White.
She is survived by a son, Bruce C. White of Baltimore, Md., a daughter, Sonya Burr of Warrenton, and a grandson.
The Rev. John Lillie led a graveside service June 5 at Culpeper National Cemetery.

William James Jr.

William Randolph James Jr., 51, of Bealeton died June 2, 1998, at his home.
Mr. James was born in Fauquier County on July 12, 1946. He worked as the central office repairman for GTE, and retired in 1997. He was active with the Fauquier Historical Society, a Civil War buff and enjoyed collecting relics.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon L. James of Bealeton; his mother, Mildred "Tommie" James of Vincennes, Ind.; a daughter, Cynthia L. Miller of Fredericksburg; two sons, William R. James III of Catlett, and Jonathan Robert James of Bealeton; a brother, Michael B. James of Hyattsville, Md.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, William Randolph James Sr.
The Rev. Warren Copeland led a funeral service June 6 at Moser Funeral Chapel in Warrenton. Interment was in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Edward Estes
Mechanic
Edward Cumberland "Pigeon" Estes, 93, of Castleton died June 3, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.
Mr. Estes was born in Viewtown on Oct. 11, 1904, a son of the late Edward Lee Estes and Mida L. Smith Estes. He worked as a mechanic and was a member of Gourdvine Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Blackwell Estes, a son, John Estes, and a daughter, Dorothy Mauney.
He is survived by three daughters, Annie Clater, Mida "Kitty" Cannon and Willie Cloud, all of Castleton; two sons, Marshall Estes of Pleasant Hill, La., and Adolph Estes of Castleton; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Gordon George led a graveside service June 6 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
