Jeraldine Franz

Jeraldine Franz, 84, of Warrenton died July 22, 1998, at Warrenton Overlook Care Center.
Mrs. Franz was born in Marguand, Mo., on July 3, 1914, the daughter of the late Christopher Franklin Clubb and Nelle Clubb. A former resident of Front Royal, she traveled the world with her husband during his military service and was foreign correspondent officer for the Star Trek Welcommittee. She was proud to be half Cherokee.
She is survived by two sons, Robin Franz of Warrenton and Dennis Franz of San Antonio, and two grandchildren.
A funeral service took place July 24.
Charles Gorham
Heavy equipment operator
Charles LeRoy Gorham, 53, of Delaplane, died July 23, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Gorham was born in Alexandria on Feb. 24, 1945, a son of Estelle Beavers Gorham and the late Thomas D. Gorham of Charlottesville. He was a heavy equipment operator for Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria for 11 years.
He is survived by his mother; two daughters, Cheryl Roberts of Front Royal and Loretta Moore of Delaplane; two sisters, Mildred Houchens and Shirley Adcock, and a brother, Thomas D. Gorham, all of Scottsville; six grandchildren, and a great-grandson.
The Rev. Randy Daniels led a funeral service July 26 at Royston Funeral Home in Marshall. Interment was in Marshall Cemetery.
Levi Atkins
Amissville farmer
Levi Jefferson Atkins, 85, of Amissville died July 27, 1998, at Blue Ridge Christian Home in Bealeton.
Mr. Atkins was born in Rappahannock County on Sept. 27, 1912, a son of the late Ashby Jackson Atkins and Treva Atkins. He was a farmer and a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church in Viewtown. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Frances Atkins.
He is survived by two sons, Jack J. Atkins and Levi J. Atkins Jr., both of Amissville; three sisters: Mary Anna Jenkins of Washington, Va., Lois Dodson and Maggie Atkins, both of Front Royal; two brothers, Roy Atkins and Joseph Hill Atkins, both of Sperryville, and two grandchildren.
The Rev. H. Vernon DeLong will lead a funeral service at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Forest Grove Baptist Church in Viewtown. Interment will be in the Washington Masonic Cemetery in Washington, Va.

Irene Lambert

Irene Shirley Lambert, 85, of Warrenton died July 26, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.
Mrs. Lambert was born on Feb. 13, 1913.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Gilliam of Warrenton; two sisters, Gertrude Chapman of Washington, D.C., and Gladys Booker of New Jersey; a brother, Charles Wise of West Virginia; four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Joynes Funeral Home in Warrenton. The Rev. Hildrom Fisher will lead a graveside service at noon Friday, July 31, at Warrenton Cemetery.
George Biecher
Telephone engineer
George R. "Bud" Biecher, 65, of Warrenton, formerly of Carlisle, Pa., died July 18, 1998, at home, following a lengthy illness.
A graduate of Chambersburg High School, he served in the Army during the Korean War. He retired on disability as an engineer from United Telephone Co. (Sprint) in Carlisle. He was a former deacon and member of the Carlisle Church of Christ, and more recently a member of the Warrenton Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda "Penny" Leeper Biecher of Warrenton; a son, James Risser of Warrenton; a daughter, Mari Grace Barnhart of Boiling Springs, and two granddaughters.
A memorial service took place at Carlisle Church of Christ on July 21, and at Warrenton Church of Christ on July 22.

Prudence Tekirian

Prudence Lamont Harris Tekirian, 85, of Reva, died July 25, 1998, at Meadow Brook Nursing Home in Reva.
Mrs. Tekirian was born in Newark, N.J., on July 13, 1913. During her lifetime she lived in Litchfield, Conn., Maplewood, N.J., Cape Cod (Orleans), Mass., and the last three years in Reva. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William H. Harris and Allen Tekirian.
She enjoyed nature and companion animals and devoted much of her life to wildlife preservation.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Lamont Williams of Reva, formerly of Warrenton; a son, Rosslyn Phillip Harris II of Chestnut Hill, Mass., and a granddaughter.
A memorial service will take place in Orleans, Mass., on Cape Cod, in the fall.
Elsie C. Woodzell

Elsie C. Woodzell, 80, of Warrenton, died July 29, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.
Mrs. Woodzell was born in Opal on Aug. 28, 1917, the daughter of the late Luther Compton and Lizzie Compton. She was a longtime volunteer with Fauquier Hospital. She worked for many years in the Thrift Shop. She was formerly a member of the Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peyton Woodzell, and a twin sister, Eleanor Thompson.
She is survived by two daughters, Alice Jane DeRan and Barbara Ann Ebbets, both of Warrenton; two brothers, Clyde Compton of Warrenton and Jimmy Compton of North Miami Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Moser Funeral Home. The Rev. Sam P. Jones will lead a funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Moser Funeral Home. Interment will be in Warrenton Cemetery.

James Foote Shumate III

James Foote Shumate III, 49, of Warrenton, died July 21, 1998, in Indiana.
Mr. Shumate was born in Meridian, Miss., on Dec. 23, 1948. He was a veteran of the Air Force. He was a contract specialist for the Veterans Administration and served in the National Guard in Washington, D.C.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Shumate.
He is survived by his wife, Carolynn Bissett Shumate, and two sons, Joshua and Andy Shumate, all of Warrenton; and his father, James Foote Shumate Jr. of Meridian, Miss.
The Rev. Sam P. Jones led a funeral service July 27 at Moser Funeral Home. Interment was in Warrenton Cemetery.

James McCarty Jr.

James Benjamin McCarty Jr., 83, of Waverley Farm in Delaplane and Lansdowne, died Sept. 12, 1998, at Loudoun Hospital Center in Leesburg.
Mr. McCarty was born in Delaplane on Nov. 11, 1914, a son of the late James B. and Clara Stover McCarty Sr. He attended George Washington University and graduated from the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering in New York. He was a retired captain of the U.S. Coast Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Logan McCarty; and a son, Bruce Alexander McCarty of Waverley Farm, Delaplane, and also of Lansdowne.
The Rev. Daniel Robayo will lead a memorial service at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Delaplane. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Brenda Elaine Sharp, 39, of Warrenton died Sept. 7, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.
Mrs. Sharp was born May 2, 1959.
She is survived by a daughter, Alanda E. Sharp of Warrenton; her parents, Ann Sharp and Howard Sharp of Warrenton, and a sister, Karen Smith of Warrenton.
Pastor Decker Tapscott and the Rev. Moyer Foddrell led a funeral service Sept. 12 at Faith Christian Church and International Outreach Center in Warrenton. Interment was in Warrenton Cemetery.
