David Lunsford

David Milton Lunsford, 67, of Pawpaw, W.Va., died Sept. 29, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Mr. Lunsford was born in Warrenton on May 13, 1931, the son of the late Roy Bennett Lunsford and Mary Jane Lunsford. He was a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Lunsford and Robert Lunsford.
He is survived by four daughters: Barbara Ross of Houston, Catherine A. Osborne of Rixeyville, Brenda Repass of Broad Run, Wanda Morgan of Okeechobee, Fla.; a son, David M. Lunsford Jr. of Manassas; eight sisters: Patsy Van and Doris Graham, both of Warrenton, Helen Boldridge of Rixeyville, Christine Frye of Jefferson, Md., Margaret Springer of St. Simons Island, Georgia, Peggy Woods of Wilmington, N.C., Frances Hough of Nashville, Tenn., and Ruth Suter of Dayton; five brothers: Chester Lunsford of Buckland, Eugene Lunsford of Front Royal, John Lunsford of Pawpaw, W.Va., Mitchell Lunsford of St. Pete, Fla., and Roy B. Lunsford Jr. of Louisville, Ky., and nine grandchildren.
The Rev. Karl Skiner led a funeral service Oct. 3 at Battlefield Baptist Church. Interment was in Broad Run Baptist Church Cemetery in New Baltimore.

James Hill

James Edward "Perk" Hill, 67, of Middleburg died Oct. 3, 1998, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Hill; two daughters, Helen Reid of Falls Church and Kathy Robinson of Middleburg; three sons: Maurice Hill of Round Hill, Clayton Hill of Craigsville and Martin Hill of Middleburg; four sisters: Irene Briggs of Leesburg, Frances Washington of Middleburg, Geneva Hill of Reston and Beatrice Harris of Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Theodore Haley led a funeral service Oct. 7, at Shiloh Baptist Church in Middleburg. Interment was private.

Guy Farley Jr.
Attorney/businessman
Guy Otto Farley Jr., 66, of Warrenton died Nov. 1, 1998, in Fairfax Hospital.
Mr. Farley was born in Staunton on Sept. 6, 1932, the son of the late Guy Otto Farley Sr. and Ethel Farley. He earned a bachelor's degree from Hampden-Sydney College and graduated from the University of Virginia Law School in 1959.
He practiced law for 25 years in the Northern Virginia area and served as assistant commonweath's attorney and as school board attorney. He also served as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia Crime Commission. He was selected as one of two of Virginia's Outstanding Legislators.
Mr. Farley served on the National Platform Committee of the Republican Party in 1980, and wrote the pro-life and pro-family planks. He was state Chairman of Citizens for Reagan and Bush in Mr. Reagan's landslide victory of 1980.
He was a founding elder of Warrenton Bible Fellowship in Warrenton and served on the Board of Grace Ministries, a counseling ministry in Manassas. He also was the founding director of the Rutherford Institute of Virginia, an organization headed by John Whitehead.
Mr. Farley maintained a business and development office in Warrenton, Gateways Partnerships and Companies. He developed a chain of 15 Luxury Budget Motels in Virginia, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. He was chairman of the board of Guests Inc., a hotel management company he founded in 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie Prather Farley of Warrenton; three sons: Graham Farley of Midlothian, Drew Farley of Champaign, Ill., and Will Farley of Salatiga, Indonesia; and a daughter, Amanda Farley of Warrenton.
A funeral service took place Nov. 4 at Centreville Baptist Church. Interment was in Stonewall Memorial Gardens in Manassas.

Joyce DeBergh

Joyce Raley DeBergh, 74, of Warrenton died Oct. 28, 1998, at Warrenton Overlook Care Center.
Mrs. DeBergh was born in Colon, Panama, on Sept. 13, 1924, the only child of Col. Edward and Alberta Raley. She attended Knox, Sweet Briar and George Washington colleges. She was a real estate broker, a past member of the Rappahannock Hunt and a horse enthusiast.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, John R. DeBergh; two daughters, Diane Moore and Deborah Flournoy Jr., and three grandchildren, all of Washington, Va.
Funeral services were private.

Ruth L. Carl, 98, of Warrenton, formerly of Washington, D.C., died Oct. 29, 1998, at Oak Springs Comprehensive Care Center in Warrenton.
Ms. Carl was born in Remington on Feb. 13, 1900, a daughter of the late William B. Edwards and Mary Holmes Edwards.
She is survived by a brother, Clifton P. Edwards, Sr.

Keven Vernam

Keven Deam Vernam, 68, of Warrenton died Oct. 27, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Vernam was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 27, 1930, the daughter of the late William A. Deam and Aida Deam. She worked as a word processor.
She is survived by her husband William C. Vernam of Warrenton; a son, William A. Vernam of Warrenton; and a daughter, Keven E. Piper of Austin, Texas.
The Rev. J. Richard Winter led a graveside service Oct. 30 at Culpeper National Cemetery.
John Hegwood Jr.

John Fenton Hegwood Jr., 58, of Warrenton died Oct. 27, 1998, at Page Memorial Hospital in Luray.
Mr. Hegwood was born on Feb. 6, 1940, in Washington, D.C., the son of the late John Fenton Hegwood Sr. and Dorothy Hegwood. He was a manager at an engineering firm. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and a military veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Carol A. Hegwood of Warrenton; two daughters, Mary Beth Hegwood of New Baltimore and Karen L. Hegwood of Bristow; a son, Jeffrey M. Hegwood of New Baltimore; and a sister, Lois Naylor of Melbourne Beach, Fla.

Virginia Hanback

Virginia Butler Hanback, 89, of Warrenton died Oct. 30, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.
Mrs. Hanback was born in Fauquier County on Oct. 10, 1909, a daughter of the late James Washington Butler and Maude Butler. She was a member of the Warrenton United Methodist Church and the Virginia Anderson Circle of the Church. She was a former volunteer with the Fauquier Hospital Auxiliary, working in the Thrift Shop.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie T. Hanback Sr. and her son, Charlie T. Hanback Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty H. Hardy of Fairfax; three grandchildren; and five grandchildren.

Clara Humphries Putnam, 76, of Catlett died Oct. 31, 1998, at INOVA-Fairfax Hospital.
Mrs. Putnam was born in Virginia on March 7, 1922, the daughter of the late Absalom Humphries and Willie Bae Humphries. She was the widow of Bedford Grimsley Putnam.
She is survived by two sons, William Eldred Twomey of Richmond and Carl Wayne Twomey Sr. of Warrenton; a daughter Mary L. Putnam of Catlett; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
