Kurt Miller
Airman

Kurt Alan Miller, 20, of Bealeton died Oct. 6, 1998, in Montana.

Airman Miller was born in Fairfax on Jan. 21, 1978. He was a 1997 graduate of Liberty High School, where he was in R.O.T.C. Eagle Battalion. He had been a member of the Remington Volunteer Fire Co. since 1995. He also was a member of the Potomac Valley Amateur Athletic Union. He enlisted in the Air Force on March 24, 1998, and was working with the Security Forces Police at Malstrom AFB, Mont.

He is survived by his father, Peter J. Miller of Arlington; his mother, Patricia Miller of Bealeton; his stepfather, Brian R. McDougle of Bealeton; two sisters, Debi Floyd of White Post and Dawn Ball of Sterling; a brother, Kevin J. Connelly of Bealeton; his maternal grandparents, Roy and Jeri Southall of Anaheim, Calif.; and his fiancee, Amber Cerrato of Bandera, Texas.

The Rev. E. Thomas Williams led a funeral service Oct. 13 at Moser Chapel in Warrenton. Interment was in Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper.

Spillman Burke
Bulldozer operator

Spillman Samuel Burke, 82, of Warrenton died Oct. 9, 1998, at Jacque's Adult Care Inc.

Mr. Burke was born in Orlean on Sept. 24, 1916. He worked as a bulldozer operator. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a former member of Catlett-Calverton Ruritan Club. He was an honorary member of the Fauquier Hunt Club.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice V. Burke of Warrenton; a son, W. Robert Burke of Stafford; a brother, William Welford Burke of Dunkirk, Md.; and a grandson.

The Rev. Patricia Olson led a funeral service Oct. 11 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Interment was in Catlett Cemetery.

Jeanette Schunter
Program analyst

Jeanette Louise Schunter, 63, of The Plains died of pancreatic cancer on Oct. 9, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Schunter was born in San Diego, Calif., on July 21, 1935, the daughter of Alexander and Jeanette Emwright. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and taught for six years in Prince George's County schools.

In 1977 she began a career with the federal government. She worked with various Department of Transportation agencies and in 1983 joined the Federal Aviation Administration. Mrs. Schunter became a program analyst on the Airways Facilities Planning team, and was honored many times for her dedicated service and outstanding performance. In 1997 she received the FAA's Distinguished Career Service Award.

She retired in January 1998. Mrs. Schunter was also an artisan and an avid gardener. She attended Grace Episcopal Church in The Plains.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Raymond D. Schunter; two sons, David Jay Schunter of Newtown, Conn., and Douglas John Schunter of Culpeper; a daughter, Karen Jean Schunter of Manassas; a brother, Robert Smith of Kingman, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.

The Rev. Caroline Smith Pyle led a funeral service Oct. 12 at Grace Episcopal Church in The Plains. Interment was in Warrenton Cemetery.

Lorrie Hamilton
Clinic attendant

Lorrie Jean Hamilton, 50, of Broad Run died Oct. 6, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.

Mrs. Hamilton was born in Olean, N.Y., on June 4, 1948, the daughter of the late Lawrence Miller and Annabelle Copella Miller. For 11 years she ran the clinic at Central Elementary school and was a second mom to several thousand children. She was a member of the Warrenton United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, William T. Hamilton Jr. of Broad Run; a daughter, Amy Ann Hamilton of Broad Run; a son, Andrew T. Hamilton of Broad Run; a brother, David Miller of Florida; and a sister, Julie Yokota of Honolulu.

The Rev. John Chadsey led a funeral service Oct. 11 at Moser Chapel in Warrenton. Interment was private.

Marguerite Christiana
Office worker

Marguerite E. Christiana, 89, of Catlett died Oct. 8, 1998, at Warrenton Overlook Care Center.

Mrs. Christiana was born in Weehanker, N.J., on June 18, 1909, the daughter of the late John Edward Daley and Mary Elizabeth May Daley. A former resident of Bergen County, N.J., she had lived in Virginia for 28 years. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a charter member of the Rosary Society of St. Margaret's in Little Ferry, N.J.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony E. Christiana.

She is survived by a son, Anthony Christiana of Catlett; a daughter, Barbara M. Christiana of Arlington; a brother, George Daley of Little Ferry, N.J.; a sister, Katherine Shaffer of El Cajon, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

The Rev. Michael Bazan led a funeral service Oct. 12 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Warrenton. Interment was in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Jeffersonton.

Lyle Noland
Salesman

Lyle Nicholas Noland, 76, of Catlett died Oct. 10, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.

Mr. Noland was born in Catlett on May 24, 1922, the son of the late Lawrence Nicholas Noland and Eva Estelle Noland. He was a furniture salesman at the former Northern Virginia Furniture Co. in Warrenton. Later he worked at Fairfax Furniture's Manassas store, and he retired from Rankin's Furniture in Warrenton.

He was a member of the Catlett Assembly of God where he was a former Sunday School Superintendent and a former Commander of the Royal Rangers at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle G. Noland of Catlett; a son, Landon Lyle Noland of Remington; a daughter, Pamela Kay Sottosanti of Manassas; a sister, Effie Kerns of Catlett and one grandchild.

The Rev. Warren Copeland will lead a funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. Interment will be in Catlett Cemetery.

Joseph Spence Sr.
Carpenter

Joseph Edward Spence Sr., 86, of Cross Junction died Oct. 4, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Spence was born in Woodstock on Sept. 9, 1912, a son of the late Charles Edward and Eva Spence. He was a self-employed carpenter and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Grace Spence.

He is survived by two sons, Joseph Lee Spence of Woodbridge and Joseph E. Spence Jr. of Remington; a daughter, Shirley Evans of Cross Junction; a brother, William Spence of Winchester and five grandchildren.

The Rev. Barbara Minter led a funeral service Oct. 7 at Moser Funeral Home. Interment was in Stafford Memorial Park.

Elizabeth Myers
Remington resident

Elizabeth Myers, 89, of Remington died Oct. 13, 1998, at Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community.

Miss Myers was born on March 27, 1909, in Culpeper County, the daughter of the late Charles H. and Sussanah Burke. She was a member of Jeffersonton Baptist Church.

The Rev. Marshall Braylo will lead a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Clore-Geest Funeral Home Chapel in Culpeper. Interment will be in Remington Cemetery.

J.T. Taylor Jr.
Castleton resident

J.T. Taylor Jr., 65, of Castleton died Oct. 9, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.

Mr. Taylor was born in Dublin County, N.C., on Sept. 3, 1933, the son of the late Jake Taylor and Eva Marie Garvey Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Catherine Taylor.

He is survived by three daughters: Eva Marie Myers of New Simerna Beach, Fla., Carolyn Taylor Banker of Lynchburg, and Cherl Kina of Honolulu; a son, Jake Thomas Taylor of Dillwyn; a sister, Thelma Justice of Hampstead, N.C.; and six grandchildren.

The Rev. Vinton Williams led a funeral service Oct. 12 at Found and Sons Chapel in Culpeper. Interment was in Hillcrest Memory Gardens near Jeffersonton.
