Carrie B. Rimmer
Carrie Beatrice Rimmer, 70, of Richlands, died Feb. 3, 2003 at a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Tazewell County, she was a daughter of the late John and Lou Boyd Owens, both Russell County natives.
She had made her home in the Richlands area most of her life, was a graduate of Honaker High School and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay A. (Jack) Rimmer Jr.; one sister, Mrs. Elzie Whitt; and one brother, Lee Owens.
Survivors: son, Jay A. Rimmer III and wife, Christina, of Richlands; sisters, Gladys Noel of Swords Creek, Hazel Elkins of Richlands, Mazie Boyd of Honaker; brother, Glen Owens of Swords Creek; and grandchildren, Sarah Rimmer and Jake Rimmer.
The funeral will be conducted Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Elder Robert Whitt officiating.
Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Harold L. Street
Harold Lloyd Street, 79, of the Hart’s Creek section of Cleveland, died Jan. 30, 2003 in a Richlands hospital.
Born in Russell County, he was the son of the late Carmen and Bertie Mae Thompson Street.
He was a lifelong resident of the area, he was a beloved father. He was a disabled coal miner and a member of the UMWA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Garrett and Juanita Street, and two brothers, Arvil Street and Den Street.
Survivors: daughter, Nita Gail Street and husband, Paul, of Cleveland; sons, Larry Street and his companion, Jennifer Carter, of Winston-Salem, NC, Mark W. Street and his companion, Regina Watson, of Cleveland; sisters, Evelyn Roark of Tazewell, Bonnie Presley of Richmond; brother, Donald Street of Cleveland; and grandchildren, Travis Hubbard, Timothy Hubbard and Bradley Street.
The funeral was conducted Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel at Honaker with Rev. Mike Dye officiating.
Interment followed in the Street Cemetery on Hart’s Creek.
Jimmy Lee Stump
Jimmy Lee Stump, 29, of Maxie, died Feb. 1, 2003 following a brief illness.
Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Edward and Verna Mary Reamer Stump.
He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was disabled.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Eddie Leslie Stump, and one nephew, Charlie Stump Jr.
Survivors: daughter, Sopianna Shrader of Grundy; son, Joshua Stiltner of Grundy; sisters, Nancy Carol Estep of Alabama, Kathy Ann Stump and Patricia Joyce Fife, both of Maxie, Barbara Jean Fields of Grundy, Betty Jill Epling and Brenda Lee Hackney, both of Haysi; and brothers, Charlie Chester Stump, Robert Lee Stump, Carl B. Stump and Ronald Keith Stump, all of Maxie and James Ray Stump of Grundy.
The funeral will be conducted Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. at Bethlehem Old Regular Baptist Church on Poplar Creek, Route #2, Grundy with Elders James McClanahan, William McClanahan, Johnny Paul McClanahan, Jim Blankenship, Billy Campbell, Theodore Looney and Frank Newsome officiating.
Burial will follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock.
Friends called at the church Feb. 4 with services at 7 p.m. and can call today with services at 7 p.m.

Cranston “Crint” Whited
Cranston “Crint” Whited, 101, of Marengo, OH, died Jan. 27, 2003 at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Born in Swords Creek, he was the son of the late Charles and Cloe (Cole) Whited.
He moved into the Marengo area in 1924. He was a lifelong farmer and worked on the railroad throughout his life. He had also worked at the Marion Ordinance Plant and the North Electric Factory in Galion officially retiring in 1962. He was a member of Alum Creek Friends Church and the Seniors on Center, Mt. Gilead. He loved gardening, eating at Ponderosa and was a part of the breakfast bunch at the Farmstead Inn, Marengo. He enjoyed watching wrestling, Wheel of Fortune, westerns and The Price is Right. He was still living on the family farm at the age of 101 aided only be a cane.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Eva Mae (Elliott) on May 4, 1982; five brothers, Carl Burk, Virgil, Arnold and Kenneth; three sisters, Elainie Ray, and Grace and Maggie Whited; and one grandson, Kerry Cochran I.
Survivors: son, Dale (Lillian) Whited of Marengo; daughter, Pat (Ed) Cochran of Marengo; grandchildren, Jeff (Julie), Doyle (Kitty), Kevin, Karen (Mike) Cremeans, Tamara Cochran, Sabrina (Jeff) Lawson; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Britney, Austin, Bryan, Kerry II, Amanda, Tracy, Adam, Samantha, Brooke, Jason and TC Cremeans; and brother, Clyde of Pulaski.
The funeral was conducted Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. at the Alum Creek Friends Church with Pastor Charles Robinson and Pastor James Brantingham officiating.
Burial followed at the Alum Creek Friends Cemetery.

Cynthia E. Atwell
Cynthia E. Atwell, 72, of North Tazewell, died April 5, 2003 at Heritage Hall Health Care in Tazewell.
Born in Russell County, she was a daughter of the late William C. and Ethel Sizemore Bradley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bernard Bradley.
Survivors: husband, John E. Atwell; sons, Bernard Eugene Atwell and wife, Linda, of Arlington, John Elmer Atwell, Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Abingdon; daughters, Ethel Carol Watson and husband, Lynn, of Curtis, MI, Katherine Mae Heller and husband, Mark, of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Billie Mae Tiller of Ohio; half-sister, Barbara Jennelle of North Tazewell; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Burial was private.

Eva T. Blankenship
Eva T. Blankenship, 93, of Oakwood, went to be with the Lord on April 1, 2003.
She was a native of Buchanan County, born in Hurley, but lived the past 55 years in Oakwood. She was a member of the Hillcreek Baptist Church and Garden Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and loved to garden, cook and sew. She was totally devoted to her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary McGraw and Clinton Hamburg, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Blankenship in 1974; one son, Billy Blankenship; two brothers, Jeff McGraw and Ance McGraw; and two sisters, Bessie Whitt and Vicey Blankenship. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family in her generation.
Survivors: daughters, Mrs. Thene (Mary) Singleton of Akron, OH, Mrs. Bill (Ruby) Fletcher of Vansant, Mrs. Gene (Betty) Claborn of Mogadore, OH, Mrs. James (Joyce) Street of Oakwood; son, Jerry Blankenship and wife, Pam, of Cuyahoga, OH; grandson/son, Ronnie Blankenship of Washington, D.C.; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted April 5 at 11 a.m. at the Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel in Keen Mountain with Rev. Bill Fletcher officiating.
Burial followed at Mountain Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Grundy.
A song service was held April 4 at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hassie Dotson
Hassie Dotson, 85, of Mavisdale, died March 31, 2003 at Pleasant View Home for Adults at Honaker following a long illness.
Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Morgan and Rosie Keen Price, both Buchanan County natives.
A lifelong resident of the Buchanan County area, she was a member of the Garden Creek Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ransom Dotson, one sister, and four brothers. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors: daughters, Mrs. Bennie (Arbadella) Endicott of Cedar Bluff, Mrs. Edwin (Linda) Martin of Hayesville, NC; son, Charles W. Dotson and wife, Maxine, of Cedar Bluff; grandchildren, Reva Endicott, Joe Endicott, and wife, Roni, all of Cedar Bluff, Ben Martin of Hayesville; and great-grandchildren, Zoe Endicott, Grayson Endicott and Leah Endicott, all of Cedar Bluff; and an adopted granddaughter, Tina Barry of Washington, D.C.
The funeral was conducted April 3 at 2 p.m. in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel in Honaker with Pastor Bill Boyd officiating.
Interment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Carol J. Gregory
Carol Jane Gregory, 62, of Conway, SC, and formerly of Princeton, WV, died April 1, 2003 in Conway following a long illness.
Born in Bluefield, she was a daughter of the late Isom Troy (Colonel) Bishop and Irene Lucille Tabor Bishop.
She attended the Nazerene Church and was a former member of the Midway Garden Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Terry Bishop.

Ruby K. Hale
Ruby Keene Hale, 71, of Claypool Hill, died April 2, 2003 at her home following a lengthy illness.
Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Earnest and Lula Sisk Keene.
She was a member of the Cliffield Church of Christ. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Dexter Keene.

Thomas M. (Tommy) Jewell
Thomas M. (Tommy) Jewell, 65, of Tazewell, formerly of Richlands, died April 5, 2003 at Tazewell following a long illness.
A native of Jewell Ridge, he was the son of the late Silas Bascom Jewell Sr. and Ellen Underwood Jewell Sparks.
He was a well known citizen of the Richlands area.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Clyde Sparks; one brother, Wendell Jewell; and two sisters, Linda Gail Lankford and Dorothy Jewell Hays.
Survivors: brother, Silas Jewell Jr. of Martinsville, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted April 8 at 1 p.m. at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Dannie D. Short officiating.
Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Jacqueline H. Miller
Jacqueline Hendrickson Miller, 63, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 2, 2003. She died peacefully at her home on the Bluefield-Tazewell Road.
Born at Pageton, WV, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Sylvia Hendrickson.
She was a devoted member of the Wrights Valley United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Frank (Buddy) Hendrickson Jr., and her mother-in-law, Mildred Miller.
Survivors: loving husband of 45 years, Harold Lee Miller; son, Harold (Sonny) Miller Jr. and wife, Vicki, of Bluefield, VA; daughter, Barbara Kay Carter and husband, Darrell, of Tip Top; grandchildren, Tammy Heffinger and husband, Jerry, Timmy Carter, Chase Miller, Sarah Carter, Jacob Miller and Alanah Miller; great-granddaughter, Andrea Heffinger; father-in-law, Buster Miller; sisters, Janet Booth of Radford, Roberta Gunn of Hogansville, GA, Ann Cox of Pasadena, CA; her husband’s brothers and sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

Grace B. Myers
Grace Blankenship Myers, 96, of Jolo, WV, and Lebanon, passed away peacefully April 7, 2003 at Russell County Medical Center.
Born in Pennington Gap, she was a daughter of the late Silas Rivers and Minnie Pennington Rivers.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bill Herron, Carlos Blankenship and Woodrow Myers; one son, Bill Herron, Jr.; two daughters-in-law, Bertha Herron and Margaret Herron; one grandson, Damon Rumley; five brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors: sons, Harold Herron of Jolo, Clarence Herron and wife, Lola, of Rosedale; grandchildren, Stanley and Barbara Herron, Larry and Sally Herron, Jerry and Mary Herron, Bonnie Rumley, DeEtta and Mike Ratliff, Tommy Adkins and Robert Adkins; great-grandchildren, Eddie, Matt, Dwayne and Sarah Herron, John (Wes) Rumley and Elizabeth (Beth) Brown; great-great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Katie Grace Herron; step-great-great-grandchildren, Kathy Gilbert and John Combs; and step-great-great-great-grandchildren, Brittany, Ashley and Madison Gilbert.

Cynthia E. Rasnake
Cynthia Ethel Rasnake, 86, of Cleveland, died April 4, 2003 in a Lebanon hospital.
Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Maudie Street Massie.
She had lived in the Cleveland area for the past 21 years and was a member of the United Methodist Church at Cleveland. She was a certified nurse’s aid, having been employed at Crestview Nursing Home at Shelbyville, KY.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Crabtree and Pearl Barton; five brothers, Foster Massie, Clarence Massie, Elijah Massie, Hash Massie and Rev. John Massie; and two grandchildren.
Survivors: husband, Carl Rasnake; daughters, Lois Walls of Russellville, KY, Edna Aldridge of Naples, FL; sons, Ray Price of Stanford, KY, Charles Price of Houstonville, KY, Oscar Price and Henry Price, both of Naples, Tony Price and Michael Price, both of Shelbyville; stepdaughters, Virginia Lambert of Cleveland, Irene Culbertson of Bluefield, WV; stepsons, Gary Rasnake and Lonnie Rasnake, both of Cleveland; sisters, Mae Bottoms of Danville, KY, Bertha Helton of Crab Orchard, KY; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

John R. Ritter
John Roger Bailey Ritter, 71, of Springville, died April 5, 2003 at Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC.
Born at Tip Top, he was a son of the late Phillip Clayborn Bailey Ritter and Carrie Lou Miller Mundy Ritter.
He was retired from the Zerox Company, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and attended church at the Tip Top United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Effie Mae Ritter and Eva Kathleen Ritter, and one brother, Roy Jesse Adam Ritter.
Survivors: wife, Dreama Lee Sawyers Ritter; sons, Roger Winfred Ritter of Ogden, UT, David Lee Ritter and wife, Rebekah (Becky) of Springville; daughter, Cathy Sue Ritter Stacy of Thomasville, NC; grandchildren, Matthew Dean Ritter and wife, Sandy, of Phoenix, AZ, John Clayburn Ritter of Kaysville, UT, Jill Marie Ritter and Joni Lee Ritter, both of Springville, Clarissa Dawn Stacy and Dreama Deloris Stacy, both of Thomasville, Kenneth Blake Stacy and wife, Kelly, of Walburg, NC; sisters, Harriet (Mrs. Frazier) Spurgeon of North Tazewell, Ella Kate (Mrs. James) Snell of Springville, Evelyn Beavers and husband, Walter, of Tip Top, Janice Hayes and husband, Frank, of Bailey Switch; and several nieces and nephews.
