Della Stiltner, 74, of War, WV, died April 6, 2003 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Born in Caretta, WV, she was a daughter of the late Byrd Brewster and Carrie Bailey Brewster.
She was an employee of Title 5 Program, Dry Fork Rescue Squad in War, WV.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Brittain Stiltner; three sisters, Melinda Robinson, Mary Magdalene Brewster, and Hettie Mullins; and three brothers, John Patton Brewster, Cecil Clyde Brewster, and George Raymond Brewster.
Survivors: daughters, Brenda Stiltner Sandoval of North Tazewell, Beverly Stiltner Fontaine of War; sons, Bill Brewster of Witten Valley, Darrell Stiltner of Cedar Bluff, Rufus James Stiltner of Hurley; sister, Florence Lee Mullins of Paynesville, WV; brothers, Carl Brewster of Pilgrims Knob, Fred Brewster of Princeton, WV; twelve grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Independent Church of the Living God at Shop Hollow, WV, with the Revs. Wilmer Muncy, Melvin Muncy, and Jesse Estep officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Sylvia V. Yost
Sylvia Vernon Surber Yost, 74, of Huntington, WV, and formerly of Bluefield, died April 1, 2003 in a Huntington hospital following a short illness.
Born in Tazewell County, she was a daughter of the late James E. and Mae Vernon.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Dorcus Circle, Bluefield Chapter 102 Member of the Order of Eastern Star and Huntington Women’s Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Survivors: husband, Esdel B. Yost; daughter, Sharon Kay Kuhn and husband, Peter, of Lakeland, FL; sons, Bernard Surber of Louisville, KY, Terry Surber of Kansas City, KS; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Kathryn Pardue of Bluefield, VA; brother, Lawrence Vernon of Bluefield, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted April 3 at 3 p.m. at the White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery in Barboursville, WV, with the Rev. David A. Enerich officiating.

Elder Landon Colley
Elder Landon M. Colley, 80, of Rosedale, died May 24, 2003 at Wellmont Hospice, Bristol, TN, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Robert and Louisa Deel Colley.
He was a retired coal miner and was a well known Old Primitive Baptist Minister. He was Moderator for the Washington District Association and served as Moderator of the Prater Creek and Hale Creek Primitive Baptist Churches. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters and was the last surviving member of his immediate family in his generation.
Survivors: wife, Dorothy Owens Colley; son, Kenneth M. Colley and wife, Sandra, of Kingsport, TN; daughter, Sue Williams and husband, Richard, of Bristol, TN; grandchildren, Joshua Colley, Jill Marshall, Kerry Colley, Zoey Colley, Heather Williams and Shelley Williams; ant two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted May 26 at 1 p.m. at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Elders Aaron Williams and Eunice Davis officiating.
Entombment followed in the Greenhills Mausoleum at Claypool Hill.

Leemon C. Gregory
Leemon C. Gregory, 92, of Honaker, died May 20, 2003 in a Lebanon hospital.
Born in Finney, he was a son of the late Phillip Jackson Gregory and Mary Ann Harrison Gregory.
A lifelong resident of the area, he had been employed as a coal miner, a Russell County Sheriff’s Deputy and a farmer. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II in the Phillipines. He was a former member of the Old Fellows Lodge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Gregory; one son, Robert Curtis Gregory; one daughter, Phyllis Andrews; two sisters, Nancy and Mary; five brothers, John, Kyle, Sam, Glen and Hermon; one grandson, Robert Curtis Gregory, Jr.; one daughter-in-law, Wiletta “Dib” Whited Gregory; and one son-in-law, William “Bill” Young.
Survivors: daughter, Darlene Young of Napoleon, OH; sons, Randy Gregory of Swords Creek, Earl Gregory and wife, Kathy, of Swords Creek, Gary Gregory and wife, Linda, of Honaker; sister, Lola Gregory Conley of Kingsport, TN; sister-in-law, Doshie Robinson of Mouthcard, KY; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two step-grandsons.
The funeral was conducted May 23 at 2 p.m. in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel in Honaker with Pastor Larry Brooks and Rev. Ralph Bostic officiating.
Interment followed in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.
Military graveside honors were conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon.
Ethel W. Kimberlin
Ethel W. Kimberlin, 94, of Burkes Garden, died May 22, 2003 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, WV.
Born in Rocky Gap, she was a daughter of the late Wiley and Rosa Willis Wolfe.
She was a member of the Burkes Garden Central Lutheran Church and the Burkes Garden Homemakers Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Lessie Kimberlin, and one sister, Cathleen Akers.

Eunice Effie Vandyke Meadows, 78, of Raven, died May 23, 2003 in a Richlands hospital following a long illness.
Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Joshua and Edna Mae Keen Vandyke.
She was a member of Dismal Holiness Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest M. Meadows; one grandson, Joshua Brian Meadows; one great-grandson, Brian Barrett; three brothers, Hassel Vandyke, Danny Vandyke and Gus Vandyke; and three sisters, Ruby Vandyke, and two infant girls.

Jesse W. Moore
Jesse Ward Moore, 97, of Blacksburg, died May 19, 2003.
Born in Tazewell County, he was the son of the late Sam Houston and Mary Grace Whitman Moore.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mina Ray Munsey Moore.
He was educated at Bluefield College, the University of Virginia and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and was a retired Mathematics professor from Virginia Tech having taught there from 1936 to 1971. He was a graduate of VPI Class of 1932 and a member of the “Old Guard.” He was a member of Pi Mu Epsilon fraternity and the Fincastle Rifles, Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was a lifelong horseman who was dedicated to the development and enhancement of the American Saddlebred Horse.
Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Sam Houston II and Dolly S. Moore of Floyd; one daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen M. and Will Miller of Roanoke; grandsons, Stuart H. Moore and wife, Louise, of Richmond, B. Hunter Miller of Roanoke; granddaughter, Courtney V. Moore of Baltimore; sister-in-law, Joyce G. Moore of Tazewell; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert Spencer Mullin
Robert Spencer Mullin, 90, of Gainesville, FL, formerly of Tazewell, died February 15, 2003 in Shands at Alachua General Hospital.
He was born in Tazewell and moved to Gainesville in 1958. He was a Plant Pathologist. He was a Professor Emeritus at University of Florida and was a graduate of Hampden Sidney Colleges, BS, Virginia Polytech Institutes, MS, and University of Minnesota, PhD., Professor at Virginia Tech and University of Florida. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gainesville.
Survivors: wife, Catherine Mullin; sons, McDonald Mullin III, of Jacksonville, FL, Robert S. Mullin, Jr. of Roanoke; and sister, Marguerite Valdo of Arizona; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m. May 24 at the Tazewell Christian Church in Tazewell with the Rev. Michael Stump officiating.

Hazel “Tootsie” Pritt
Hazel M. “Tootsie” Neal Pritt, 64, of Bluefield, died May 23, 2003 at a Bluefield hospital.
Born in Bluefield, VA, she was a daughter of the late Obie H. Neal and Alice Mae Taylor Neal.
She was employed at Hardee’s in Bluefield, VA, former employee of Bluefield College and was of the Church of God faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Robert Richmond, James Coyle and Harold Pritt; two sisters, Janice Neal and Nannie Neal; and one grandson, Chad Coyle.

Jennings E. Rose
Jennings Edward Rose, 72, of Wardell, died May 19, 2003 in a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late John and Pearlie Sisk Rose.
He was a retired coal miner and a member of U.M.W.A. Local 1760. He was an Army veteran having served in the Korean conflict.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Richard Thomas Rose; two sisters, Orthie Burke and Georgia Baan; and two brothers, Earl Shortt and Rondall Rose.
Survivors: wife of 51 years, Mable Vencill Rose; daughter, Patricia Harman and husband, Jack, of Statesville, NC; son, Jerry Rose and wife, Janette, of Wardell; granddaughters, Shannon McGraw and husband, Thomas, Kate Rose, Alisha Bowes and husband, Benny; grandson, Michael Harman; sister, Frances Webb and husband, Ralph, of Jewell Ridge; brothers, Robert Rose and wife, Jackie, of Shortt Gap, Howard Rose and wife, Maxine, of Richlands, Buford Rose and wife, Jerri, of Flint, MI; and special friend, Austin Burke.

Rose M. Stinson
Rose Myrtle Honaker Stinson, 97, of Honaker, died May 23, 2003 in a Lebanon hospital.
Born in Honaker, she was a daughter of the late Elias and Katherine Lawson Honaker.
She was a lifelong resident of the Honaker area. She was a 1925 graduate of Honaker High School, attended Radford State Teacher’s College and taught school for five years in Russell and Buchanan County. She was a member of the Swords Creek Block Church, Finney Senior Citizens and Dr. McKnight’s Creative Writing Class at Southwest Virginia Community College. She was an avid short story writer and received an award in November 2002 for being the oldest student to attend Southwest Virginia Community College.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Everette Stinson; one grandchild, Jennifer Stinson; and nine brothers and sisters. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors: daughters, Mary Lou Jones of Pearisburg, Jackie Childress of Honaker; sons, Bill Stinson, Lawrence “Rabbit” Stinson and Henry Everette Stinson Jr., all of Honaker, Ronnie Stinson of Abingdon; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Margaret D. Surface
Margaret Davis Surface, 84, of Tazewell, died May 21, 2003 at Tazewell Community Hospital.
Born in Bluefield, VA, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Walton Davis and Susie Litz Davis.
She was a member and very active in the Tazewell Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dan H. Surface, Sr.
Survivors: son, Dan H. Surface and wife, Cindy, of Marion; daughter, Suzanne Clarke and husband, Kevin, of Woodstock; sisters, Sue Davis VanDyke and husband, William H., of Tazewell, Mavis Davis Hart of Sandy Hook, CT, Sally Alice Davis Rauscher and husband, Richard, of Tracy, CA; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a very special group of dedicated companion caregivers.

Joyce L. Tackett, 72, of Richlands, died May 23, 2003 at a Bristol, TN, hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Pikeville, KY, she was a daughter of the late Hi and Myrtle Lane McCoy, both Kentucky natives.
She was a graduate of Pike County High School in Pikeville and had made her home in the Richlands area the past 46 years where she was formerly employed with the Ammar Dept. Store.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Gay Spencer, and one grandson, George Joseph Tackett.

Milburn (M.T.) Whitt
Milburn (M.T.) Whitt, 83, of Cedar Bluff, died May 25, 2003 in a Richlands hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Tazewell County, he was the son of the late John Y. Whitt, Sr. and Mary Boothe Whitt.
He was a member of the Cedar Bluff First United Methodist Church and was an avid bowler. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War Two where he participated in the Battle of the Bulge with the 99th infantry division and was a retired automobile and mobile home salesman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vella Dye Whitt; two sons, Ronnie Whitt and Randall Whitt; two brothers, Carl Whitt and John Y. (Donnie) Whitt Jr.; and two sisters, Bessie Blankenship and Nettie Rose Baldwin.
Survivors: daughters, Betty Carol Clipfel and husband, Maurice, of Tokoma Park, MD, Sharon Kay Cole and husband, Clyde, of Tazewell; sisters, Becky Pruett of Bandy, Delphine Simmons of Springhill, FL; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
