Mr. Clarence Walters, age 83, of Jewell Ridge, Virginia died Sunday, February 16, 2003 at a Richlands, Virginia hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Paintsville, Kentucky and was a son of the late Charlie and Edith Ward Walters. He had made his home in the Jewell Ridge area most of his life and was a member of the Jewell Ridge Presbyterian Church. He had served in the U. S. Army and was a Veteran of World War II and Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Mrs. Mary Quesenberry Walters and two brothers, Henderson and Charles Walters.

Mrs. Nell Bailey Hairfield, age 87, of 500 Marion Ave. Tazewell, Virginia formerly of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, died Sunday, February 16, 2003 at the Golden Age Retirement Home at Claypool Hill, Virginia following a brief illness. She was born in Richlands, Virginia and was a daughter of the late Harvey Peery Bailey and Molly Bandy Bailey both Tazewell County, Virginia natives. She was a life long resident of the Tazewell County area, attended Emory and Henry College, and was a retired school teacher in the Tazewell County School System. She was a former member of the Cedar Bluff United Methodist Church and was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Tazewell, Virginia since 1998. She was a member of the Matt B. Martin Sunday School Class and Knight-Phillips Circle at the Main Street Church and was very active in many church activities especially the United Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. W. T. Hairfield and two brothers, James B. Bailey and George P. Bailey.

Mr. Charles Edward Griffith, age 68, of the Middle Creek section of Cedar Bluff, Virginia died Sunday, February 16, 2003 at a Lebanon, Virginia hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was a son of the late William Albert and Mary Lowe Griffith. He was a life long resident of the Cedar Bluff area, was a 1952 graduate of Richlands High School, and was a disabled farmer and construction worker. He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Compton Shelton and Pansy Ball Rice, also, two brothers, James and Wade Griffith.
Survivors are:

Special niece, Sue Griffith Snead of Rosedale, Virginia; also surviving are several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Mrs. Carrie M. Meadows, age 97, of Pleasant View Home for Adults, Honaker, Virginia formerly of Virginia Ave. Richlands, Virginia, died Friday, February 14, 2003 at a Lebanon, Virginia hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Pound, Virginia and was a daughter of the late James Nelson and Nancy Ardila Hubbard Boggs, both Wise County, Virginia natives. She had made her home in the Richlands area most of her life residing at the Pleasant View Home for Adults in Honaker the past four years. She was a member of the Richlands Presbyterian Church and a very active member of her church circle. Mrs. Meadows was a former manager of the Piggly Wiggly Bakery, a former employee of Jenkins Dry Cleaners, manager of Swans Cleaners, and did alterations for Cury’s Dept. Store. She also was a former employee of King Cole Café and Wimpy’s Café.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Marvin E. Meadows, two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy McVey and Mrs. Louise Beverly, one son, Marvin Edward Meadows, Jr., one granddaughter, Sue Fredrick, one grandson, Michael McVey, four sisters, Artha Jones, Opal Draughn, Edith Cox, and Ava Kilgore; also, four brothers, Troy, Avis, Elmer, and Tolly Boggs.

Mrs. Ruby Carol Lawson, age 60 of Annapolis, Maryland formerly of Swords Creek, Virginia, died February 11, 2003 at her home following an illness of several months.
She was born in Swords Creek, Virginia and was a daughter of the late Clarence and Irene Elkins White, both Russell County natives. She was a graduate of Honaker High School and had resided in Maryland for 43 years. She was of the Church of God Mrs. Ruby Carol Lawson, age 60, of 10 Porter Drive Annapolis, Maryland formerly of Swords Creek, Virginia, Faith and her hobbies were walking and exercising. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, David, Larry, and Darrell White.

Mr. Marvin Garfield Cordill, age 79, of Cedar Bluff, Virginia died Thursday, February 13, 2003 at a Tazewell, Virginia hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was a son of the late John Cordill and Rachel Stilwell Cordill Absher, both Tazewell County natives.
He was a life long resident of the Cedar Bluff area, was a retired miner of Jewell Smokeless Coal Company, and was a member of the Trinity Assembly of God Church in Cedar Bluff, Virginia.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cordill was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Sadie Cooper Stevenson, age 86, of Arlington, Virginia, formerly of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, passed away February 7, 2003 in an Alexandria, Virginia hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Jewell Ridge, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Burb Edward and Alta Jewell Cooper, both Buchanan County natives.
She had made her home in the Arlington, Virginia area for the past 37 years. She was a member of the Richlands Tabernacle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Eddie Coleman and Donna Shrodes; eight sisters, Lena Jackson, Nora Day, Stella Meadows, Ethel Jackson, Hazel Cooper, Ora Mae Cooper, Agnes Nelson, and Edith Childress; and three brothers, Ted, Jim, and Burb Cooper Jr.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was born in Buchanan County, Virginia and was a daughter of the late Thomas and Rosie Webb Osborne, both Buchanan County natives. She had made her home in Maryland for 24 years moving to Rural Retreat 14 years ago and was of the Holiness Faith.

He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was a son of the late John Clyde and Mary Proffitt Hicks, of Richlands Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Peggy Hicks and one brother, Mr. Lawrance Randolph Hicks.
