Richard A. Pool Sr.
Richard A. Pool Sr., 65, of Winchester, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester.
He was born July 14, 1936, in Holtville, Calif. He is the son of Herman Truelove and Ethel Opal Pool.
He retired from the United States Air Force in 1975 as a technical sergeant in the First Composite Wing, Andrews Air Force Base. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Manassas and a member of the Bull Run Lodge Post No. 698, and Lodge 25 P.E.R. Council Northern Virginia.
He was married to Mary Jones Pool of Winchester.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one son, Richard A. Pool Jr.
He is survived by his wife and father of California; three sons, Robert G. Cunningham of Winchester, Robert Pool of Kentucky and Ronny Pool of Nebraska.; two daughters, Beverly J. Pool of Nebraska and Phyllis A. Gray of Maryland; two stepchildren, Grady J. Cunningham of Pennsylvania, Betty J. Cunningham of North Carolina; three brothers, William Pool of Florida, Melvin Pool of California and Paul Pool of Illinois; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will received friends at 6 p.m. today at Cartwright Funeral Home in Winchester, where services will follow at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Eugene Wilson officiating.
Inurnment with military honors by the Winchester VFW Post No. 2123 will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Charles "Buster" Jackson Cemetery in White Post.
Anna L. Bright
Anna L. Bright, 91, of Manassas, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at the Prince William Hospital in Manassas.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Phillipsburg, N.J.
Preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Bright, she is survived by her daughter, Brenda Snyder of Fairfax.
A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Lee Funeral Home, 8521 Sudley Road, Manassas. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Hellertown, Pa., at a later date.
Monte K. Luhr
Monte Keith Luhr, 56, of Stafford, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at his residence.
Born in Omaha , Neb., he was a computer programmer for Bulldog Systems in Stafford and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men and Parents Without Partners.
Survivors include his mother, Clara Axford Luhr of Cherokee Village, Ark.; two sons, Karl S. Luhr of Stafford and Kevin C. Luhr of Atlanta; and one grandchild.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel, with the Rev. Mark Miller officiating. Burial will be private.
Jacob J. Wheaton
Jacob Judson Wheaton, 24, of Norfolk, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, as a result of an auto accident.
He was a graduate of Woodbridge Senior High School, where he was a member of the football team and ROTC. He was a signalman (SM3) in the U.S. Navy, with the USS Arleigh Burke.
Survivors include his mother, Vicky L. Wheaton of Colonial Beach; his father, Howard J. Wheaton of Woodbridge; one sister, Christina E. Wheaton of Virginia Beach; his grandparents, Julian F. Wheaton of Golden Beach, Md., Arthur E. McGuffin of Woodbridge and Laura M. Alderman of Lorton.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 13318 Occoquan Road, Woodbridge, where services will be held 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Earl Caudill officiating.
Graveside services with military honors will follow at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church.

Catherine B. Arrington
Catherine "Kitty" Beale Smith Arrington, 94, a longtime resident of Manassas, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at Annaburg Manor.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar B. Smith of Portsmouth. She was born Jan. 24, 1908, in Key West, Fla., but was reared in Portsmouth. She graduated from Madison State Teachers College (now James Madison University) in Harrisonburg in 1927 and came to Manassas in that year to teach fourth grade. After teaching in the Prince William County school system, primarily at Bennett School, she retired after 30 years. Early in her teaching career, she was the author of a fourth-grade textbook, "History of Prince William County," which served as the only resource for teaching county history for many years. In 1932, she married Paul J. Arrington, a Manassas native, CPA and attorney.
As a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, she served as a member of the choir for many years, was a past president of the Women of Trinity Church and served on the altar guild. She was also a past member of the Manassas Junior Woman's Club, was a charter member of the Manassas Museum and a longtime museum volunteer. During World War II, she belonged to a local musical group, the "Gay Nineties," who entertained for servicemen and clubs throughout the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., area.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jackson Arrington, who died in 1998; and her son, David Leavitt Arrington.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan A. Gilbert of Georgetown, Texas; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Blasius-Baker Funeral Home, 9320 West St., Manassas. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Stuart Schadt officiating.

Francis Baker
Francis Edward Baker, 48, of Front Royal, died Friday, May 24, 2002 at the Jefferson County Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
He was born Aug. 15, 1953.
Survivors include his parents, Francis and Georgianna Baker of Front Royal; two daughters, Christal Chavis and Amanda Chavis, both of Manassas; two sons, Darryl Payne of Warrenton and Francis Chavis of Front Royal; one sister, Nancy A. Baker of Front Royal; one brother, Perry Baker of Front Royal; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at noon Saturday at Mt. Morris Community Cemetery in Hume, with the Rev. Lemuel Montogemery officiating.
Arrangements are by Joynes Funeral Home Inc., Warrenton.
Edward Bolton Sr.
Edward Monroe Bolton Sr., 61, of Marshall, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at his residence.
He was born June 5, 1940.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Bolton of Marshall; two daughters, Peggy Bolton of Arlington and Lisa Carter of Washington, D.C.; one son, Edward M. Bolton Jr. of Arlington; two sisters, Marlene Rangal of Manassas and Dorothy Bolton of New York City.
The family will receive friends Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. service time at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 2932 Atoka Road, Rectortown, with the Rev. Norman W. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Morris Community Cemetery in Hume.

Richard Fabian
Richard Stanley Fabian, 56, of Stafford, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002.
He was born Feb. 7, 1946 in Martin's Ferry, Ohio. He was a member of St. William of York Catholic Church and a Vietnam veteran. He was a sales manager.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Fabian.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Francoise J. Fabian of Stafford; his mother, Patricia K. Fabian of St. Clairville, Ohio; daughters, Laura Luce of Puerto Rico and Corine Jackson of Stafford; one son, Thierry Jackson of Greebrae, Calif.; sister, Marian K. Summers of Sarasota, Fla.; brother, Gary Fabian of Redwood City, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Mullins and Thompson Stafford Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Saint William of York Catholic Church, with the Rev. Eversole officiating. Interment will be at Quantico National Cemetery.

Rayford Surratt
Rayford "Bubby" V. Surratt, 32, of Woodbridge, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge.
He had been a member of the Woodbridge community since 1987. He loved basketball and enjoyed singing and listening to music.
Survivors include his wife, Erika Surratt of Woodbridge; two daughters, Briana L. and Kaylynn A. Surratt, both of Woodbridge; one son, Erik V. Surratt of Woodbridge; his mother, Carolyn Contreras-Guzman; three sisters, Kathy N. Knott, Audrey D. Hampton and Tamula L. Hocog; and four brothers, Ernest R., Reginald D., Anthony L. Hubbard and Harold Contreras-Guzman.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday service time at the Mountcastle Funeral Home, 13318 Occoquan Road, Woodbridge. Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Memorial Park, Annandale.
Edith Dawson
Edith Sofie Dawson, 76, of Dale City died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Potomac Hospital.
She moved to the United States in 1950 when she married her husband, Sgt. Major Harry Dawson. She moved to Woodbridge in 1969. She was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. She was a member of various other clubs including the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Danish Club of Washington, D.C. She also was a former Lioness Club member and a retiree club member at Fort Belvoir.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and one brother, Niels Christensen.
She is survived by two daughters, Denise Dawson of Colorado and Janet Bhagat of New Hampshire; two sons, Steven Dawson of Texas and James Dawson of Oregon; five grandchildren, Jennifer Dawson, Phil Dawson, Maren Bhagat, Heather Bhagat and William Bhagat; and one sister, Bodil Madsen of Denmark.
The family will receive friends today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 14999 Birchdale Ave., Dale City. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery.

June Sawyer Hewitt
June Carol Sawyer Hewitt, 71, of Dale City died Friday, July 19, 2002 at her home after a long illness.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, John Walter Hewitt Sr.; two sons, John Walter Hewitt Jr. of Triangle and James Ronald Hewitt of Fredericksburg; three sisters, Mrs. Kaye Frances Sawyer Jones, Mrs. Judy Lynn Sawyer Shoemaker and Mrs. Mary Beth Sawyer Humes; three brothers, William C. Sawyer and Thomas Steven Sawyer, both from Hampton and Newport News, Robert Gordon Sawyer from San Antonio; and 24 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Basil Sawyer Sr.; her mother, Mrs. Estelle Frances Haley Sawyer; one brother, James Basil Sawyer Jr.; and one sister, Mrs. Cynthia Gail Sawyer Wren.
She trained at Riverside Hospital's School of Nursing in Newport News. She was a registered nurse in the psychiatric department at Alexandria Hospital and retired after 16 years. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Dale City for 32 years.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City. A Mass will be said at Holy Family Catholic Church, 14160 Ferndale Road, Dale City at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery.

Margaret J. Pearson
Margaret Jeanette Pearson, 51, of Nokesville, formerly of Independent Hill, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at Prince William Hospital, Manassas.
She was born in Fredericksburg to the late Sidney Nelson and Katherine Annie Perry. She was employed with Prince William County. She was a member of the Eagles Club, Fredericksburg and Manassas Moose Lodge No. 1380.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Joseph Henry Pearson Jr.; two daughters, Loretta S. Lemons of Stafford and Carolyn J. Pearson of Manassas; one brother, Richard Perry of Manassas; two sisters, Louise Jacobs of Manassas and Virginia Marbaker of Thornburg; and one grandson, D.J. Lemons.

J. David Waters, 48, of Manassas Park died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Prince William Hospital, Manassas.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Waters; four children, David Waters of Dallas, Misty Waters of Manassas, and Jason Waters and Nathan Waters, both of Manassas Park; seven sisters, Joan McFarland, Jerrie Karr, Gail Gillespie and Cindy Allen, all of Phoenix; Patricia Stock of Atlanta, Pam Hickman of Newport News and Donna Tucker of Albany, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
