LOWELL T. BANKS
Lowell T. Banks, 64, of Columbus, Ga., died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at his home.
A Patrick County native, he was born July 7, 1937 and was a son of Hansel and Oneida Banks of Stuart.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Emma Bowman Banks of Columbus; four sons, Ronnie Banks of Columbus, Richard Banks and Robert Banks, both of Ooltewah, Tenn., and Russell Banks of Silver Spring, Md.; four daughters, Rhonda Welborn, Regina Bailey and Robin Banks, all of Ooltewah, and Rebecca Morton of Aiken, S.C.; one brother, Donald W. (Bill) Banks of Meadows of Dan; five sisters, Annalee Shelor of Meadows of Dan, Bernice Puckett of Stuart, Bonnie Kipple of High Point, N.C., Jeanette Barton of Roanoke and Patricia (Pat) Knipple of Greensboro, N.C.; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Ooltewah Seventh Day Adventist Church.

DOROTHY B. BRIM
Dorothy Beljan Brim, 79, of Walnut Cove, N.C., died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was a member of Meadows Baptist Church in Walnut Cove.
She was born in Michigan on June 30, 1922 to the late Anthony and Julia Trebnick Beljan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Brim; a daughter, Dorothy Watts; four brothers, Walter, Peter, Ludwig and Frank Beljan; and four sisters, JoAnn Arneth, Antionette Tangen, Mary VanDette and Lucille Smith.
Surviving are three sisters-in-law, Martha Shockley of Stuart and Virginia Tuggle of Spencer and Charlotte Wall of Lawsonville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Old Well Christian Church with the Rev. Zeke Zonotas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

HENRY E. CRADDOCK
Henry Edward (Ed) Craddock of Mount Airy, N.C., died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born December 22, 1918 in Patrick County and was a son of the late John Henry and Alice Ledford Craddock. He was also preceded in death by a son, James Craddock; two sisters, Edith Edwards and Virginia Lakey; and a brother, William Craddock.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from the National Guard. He was retired from Spencer's Inc. and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Alpha S. Craddock of the home; two daughters, Frances Stone of Rural Hall, N.C. and Sue C. Linville of Mount Airy; one son, David Stephen Craddock of Mount Airy; one sister, Beulah Goins of Mount Airy; two brothers, James Edwards of Ararat and Oscar Edwards of Titusville, Fla.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Friday at Faith Baptist Church by the Rev. Randy Edwards. Burial was in Skyline Memory Gardens.

DAISY H. DODSON
Daisy Hylton Dodson, 91, of Eden, N.C., died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden.
She was born in Patrick County and was preceded in death by her husband, Woodie Dodson, and a daughter Carole Jones.
She was a member of First Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are one daughter, Peggy D. Nesbit of Eden; two sons, Kenneth E. Dodson of Ridgeway and Ronald R. Dodson of Newbern; one brother, Grover Hylton of Bluefield, W.Va.; one sister, Ethel Hopkins of Eden; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Friday at Fair Funeral Home in Eden. Burial was in Overlook Cemetery.

SUSIE F. FERRELL
Susie Flowers Ferrell, 95, of Webster, Fla., died Thursday, March 28, 2002, in a Bushnell, Fla. nursing home.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert P. Flowers.
Surviving are six daughters, Nadine Critz and Virginia Gilley, both of Martinsville, Barbara Yeatts of Daytona, Fla., Melva Spencer of Stuart, Betty Norman of Springfield and Juanita Davis of Webster; one son, Robert Flowers of Martinsville; two sisters; one brother; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was conducted Saturday at One Accord Baptist Church in Collinsville by the Rev. Phillip Woods.
BARBARA F. FREEMAN
Barbara Ellen Felts Freeman, 54, of Mount Airy, N.C, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born March 13, 1948 in Surry County, N.C., to the late Franklin Benjamin and Josie Culler Fields.
She was a homemaker and was of the Christian faith.
Surviving are her husband, Johnny Lee Freeman of the home; one son, Jamie Lee Freeman of Elkin, N.C.; three sisters, Christine Sawyers of Ararat, N.C., Verdine Puckett of Ararat, Va., and JoAnn Cassell of Mount Airy, N.C.; two brothers, Rev. Jimmy Felts of Cana and Douglas Felts of Maggie Valley, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Moody Funeral Home chapel in Mount Airy by the Revs. Mac Cassell, Gary Sawyers and Bill Spurlin. Burial was in Skyline Memory Gardens.
ALICE HANDY-KENDRICK
Alice Handy-Kendrick, 76, of Beverly Health Care, Martinsville, died Sunday, March 30, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
She was born on November 18, 1925 in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late James P. and Dora Bell Kraton Handy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Pershing Kendrick Sr.; two brothers, Walter Handy and George Handy; two sisters, Delilah Smith and Susie Deal; and a daughter, Eunice "Sissy" Lane.
She retired from American Furniture Co. with 17 years of service and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
Surviving are three sons, Pershing L. Kendrick Jr. and Ronnie D. Kendrick, both of Martinsville, and Samuel L. Kendrick of Athen, W.Va.; two sisters, Margaret Kendrick of Martinsville and Virginia Koger of Patrick Springs; 10 grandchildren; great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home. Pastor Kenny Harris officiated. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
IRENE C. HOLT
Irene Coleman Holt, 88, of Stuart, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Patrick County on April 1, 1914 to the late Alex and Pearlie Lawson Coleman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Holt; four brothers, Birt, Gillis, Curtis and Hughes Coleman; and three sisters, Myrtle Handy, Zelma Cruise and Eldean Ludwick.
Surviving are one son, Jeff Holt of Columbia, S.C., two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Stuart. Elders Ken Hopkins and Cletus Turner and the Rev. Ed Hartman will officiate. Burial will be in Wayside Community Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight (Wednesday) from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home.
FRANCES M. IRWIN
Frances "Fran" Moss Irwin, 81, of Stuart, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
She was born July 12, 1920 in North Carolina and was a daughter of the late Walter J. and Mary J. Herndon Moss. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Irwin, who died October 12, 2001; two brothers, Dorrett Moss and Dr. George Oren Moss; and a sister, Addie Moss.
She was the valedictorian of her high school class at Cliffside High School and was a graduate of UNC Women's College in Greensboro, N.C. She was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during World War II.
Surviving are a nephew and two grand-nieces.
The funeral was conducted Monday at Howell Funeral Home by the Rev. Jack Foley. Burial, with military honors by the Patrick County Veterans' Memorial Honor Guard, was in Patrick Memorial Gardens.

MARY W. McCONNELL
Mary Martin Wimbish McConnell, 77, of Bassett, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
She was born July 25, 1924 in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late Jim A. and Ida Spencer Martin. She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert "Bobby" Wimbish; two sisters, Verna Wood and Vera Scott; and a brother, Akers Martin.
She was a homemaker and business owner. She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Clyde McConnell of the home; three daughters, Betty Whitlow of Bassett, Marie Martin of Ridgeway and Pat Phelps of Greensboro, N.C.; one son, Lassie A. Wimbish Jr. of Fieldale; two stepdaughters in Tennessee; one sister, Louise Ward of Patrick County; one brother, Elwood Martin of Roanoke; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Sunday at Collins Funeral Services chapel. The Rev. Gregory Thomas officiated. Burial was in Blackberry Baptist Church cemetery.
DENNIS O. MITCHELL
Dennis Hassell Odeal Mitchell, infant son of Dennis and Melissa Lester Mitchell of Stuart, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
He was born Friday, March 22, 2002.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hassell and Nina Mitchell.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his brothers and sisters, Brian Mitchell of Spencer, Kellie Mitchell of Ohio and Tristan, Shannon and Cassie Mitchell, all of Collinsville; grandparents, Burnis and Janet Lester of Stuart; and one nephew.
Funeral services were held Monday at White Stone Old Regular Baptist Church in Franklin County. Elders Charles Lester Jr. and Johnny Paul Lester officiated. Burial was in the family cemetery in Patrick County.
