RUTH C. SHELTON
Ruth Cook Shelton, 85, of Stuart, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born in Stokes County, N.C., to the late Alonzo and Daisy George Cook. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Taylo Lewis Shelton; two sisters, Martha Irene Cook McClure and Minnie Pauline Cook Vipperman; and two brothers, Howard Samuel "Dick" Cook and Joseph Glen "Joe" Cook.
Surviving are one son, Taylo Dean Shelton of Stuart; one brother, Albert Marion "Jack" Cook of Mount Airy, N.C.; one grandson and one great-grandson.
A graveside service was held Tuesday at Patrick Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
DOSSIE N. WYATT
Dossie Mae Metts Nunn Wyatt, 92, of Danville, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart.
She was born in Franklin County and was a daughter of the late James D. and Sallie Carter Metts. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Billy H. Nunn and infant con, Joseph C. Nunn; two sisters, Maude Wall and Annie Davis; and a brother, Willie H. Metts.
She grew up in the Brosville community in Pittsylvania County and was a homemaker.
Surviving are one daughter, Eunice Hodges of Meadows of Dan; two sons, Otis M. Nunn of Axton and Bobby Nunn of Ridgeway; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial will be private.
Arrangements are by Howell Funeral Home in Stuart.
CLYDE B. BELTON SR.
Clyde B. "Pop Eye" Belton Sr., 67, of Goodview, died Friday, July 26, 2002.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a truck driver for Hennis Freight Lines.
Surviving are three children, Cheryl Ranson, Cyndi Lloyd and Clyde Belton Jr.; three sisters, Jewell Knight, Louise Hazelwood and Maxine Simmons; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at Community Christian Church in Stewartsville by the Rev. Steve Miller. Burial was in Patrick Memorial Gardens in Stuart.
Arrangements were by Lotz Funeral Home in Vinton.
HERBERT BRANCH
Herbert Branch, 78, of Eden, N.C., died Monday, July 1, 2002, at his home.
He was born in Stuart and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
He was a member of El Bethel Presbyterian Church. He was an adopted member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and was retired from Karastan Rug Mill.
Surviving are his wife, Joan Hundley Branch of the home; one son, James H. "Peanut" Branch of Eden; two stepdaughters, Veronica Gauldin of Eden and Victoria Roseberry of Covington, Ga.; one brother, Letch Branch of Pekin, Ill.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 3, at El Bethel Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Overlook Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Fair Funeral Home.
MILDRED S. COLEMAN
Mildred "Mickie" Slate Coleman, 73, of Ridgeway, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, in Lexington, Ky.
She was born November 7, 1928 in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late Murray and Etta Anderson Slate. She was also preceded in death by her husband, C.R. "Jack" Coleman; a sister, Eleanor Blackburn; and a brother, Burton Slate.
She was a member of Morgan Ford Christian Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Marty C. English of Lexington; three sons, Ken M. Coleman, Don C. Coleman and John W. Coleman, all of Richmond; one sister, Katie Spears of Ridgeway; one brother, Harold Slate of Stuart; and several grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Norris Funeral Services by the Rev. Rick Slate and Joe Hall. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.

PEGGY J. CUNDIFF
Peggy Joyce Cundiff, 62, of Eden, N.C., died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was a native of Patrick Springs and was a daughter of Bruce M. Joyce of Patrick County and the late Eva Mae Joyce.
She was a member of Rock of Ages Baptist Church and was retired from the Eden Daily News. She worked with the Council on Aging as a nurses' aide.
Surviving, in addition to her father, are her husband, Roger Cundiff of the home; two sons, Frankie McMillian and Jeffrey McMillian, both of Eden; one daughter, Amy Farrington of the home; three sisters, Brenda Joyce of Henry County, Linda Williams and Bonnie Shorter, both of Patrick County; one brother, Bruce C. Joyce of Bassett; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Reidsville, N.C.
Arrangements were by Fair Funeral Home in Eden.
HOMER L. HYLTON
Homer Lester Hylton, 81, of Belcher Mountain Rd., Woolwine, died Monday, July 29, 2002, at R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Patrick County on December 3, 1920 to the late Benjamin and Martha Boyd Hylton. He was also preceded in death by seven brothers, Roy, Olie, Arthur, Elzie, Herman, Fred and Harvey Hylton; and a sister, Beadie Belcher.
He was a member of Conner's View Primitive Baptist Church and was a logger and timber cutter.
Surviving are his wife, Verda Conner Hylton of the home; one daughter, Everine Davis of Woolwine; two sons, Waco Hylton of Woolwine and Waitman Hylton of Stuart; three sisters, Liddy Boothe of Patrick Springs, and Lony Hall and Lorene Belcher, both of Woolwine; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Elder Edward Bowman will officiate. Burial will be in Jack's Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Moody Funeral Home, and at other times at the homeplace.
DAVID W. RORRER
David Wayne Rorrer, 33, of Woolwine Hwy., Stuart, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at his home.
He was born in Patrick County on August 14, 1968.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Allen Lawson, and his paternal grandparents, Amos E. and Mattiesue Shelton Rorrer.
He was employed by Kreager Woodworking.
Surviving are his parents, W.H. and Barbara Lawson Rorrer; his maternal grandmother, Ada Haden Lawson; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Pastors Robert Rorrer and William Rorrer officiated. Burial was in Patrick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Danny Smith, Steve Belcher, Danny Hazlewood, Ellis Lawson, Bradley Rorrer and Rodney Kendrick.
Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
GENE A. SETLIFF
Gene Amos Setliff, 53, of Hawpatch Rd., Ferrum, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Carilion Franklin County Hospital.
He was born November 16, 1948 in Patrick County and was a son of the late Amos and Christine Rakes Setliff.
He was a former warehouse manager for Blue Ridge Industries and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Thomasson Heights Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Boyd Setliff of the home; one brother, Richard Setliff of Bassett; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Stuart by the Revs. Bobby Rakes and Joseph "Doby" Salmons. Burial, with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard, was in Union Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

GILBERT C. UNDERWOOD
Gilbert Calvin Underwood, 75, of Bassett, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at his home.
He was born on February 24, 1927 in Floyd County and was a son of the late Claude Swanson and Sally Hylton Underwood. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Manley V. "Tom" Underwood, and two sisters, Ollie Thomas and Zella Compton.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Bassett Furniture Industries at "Old Town" and at Bassett Table Co. for a total of 53 years, and was a cattleman.
Underwood was a member of Bassett Church of the Brethren since 1951, where he served as an usher and was a member of the Men's Fellowship.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Estelle Roberson Underwood of the home; one daughter, Darlene U. Roop of Patrick Springs; two sons, Gerald C. Underwood of Ridgeway and Doyle L. Underwood of Woolwine; three sisters, Ruby Agnew of Floyd, Ava Wells of Riner and Larma Harmon of Martinsville; four grandchildren and one stepgrandson.
The funeral will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Bassett Church of the Brethren. The Revs. Gary Edwards and William Stovall will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
