DONALD T. HALL
Donald Tucker Hall, 74, of Salem Hwy., Stuart, died Friday, July 7, 2006, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born in Patrick County on August 6, 1931 to the late Randolph Tucker Hall and Addie Rakes Hall. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lois Johnson, Ester Cave and Gladys Coleman; and three brothers, Foster Hall, Virgal Hall and James Hall.
He was retired after 29 years of service with United Elastic Corporation of Stuart where he worked in the finishing department. He attended Wayside Community Church.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Mildred Goad Hall of Stuart; one daughter, Janice Lynn Shelley of Bassett; two sisters, Margret Williams of Elkin, N.C. and Charlene Kennon of Reidsville, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at Howell Funeral Home in Patrick Springs by the Revs. Bernard Handy and John Shelley. Burial was in Patrick Memorial Gardens.
LOUISE H. HELMS
Ida Louise Handy Helms, 69, of Helms Ridge Lane, Stuart, died Thursday, July 5, 2006, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center.
She was born in Patrick County on June 20, 1937 to the late Larkin and Dorothy Lelia Lankford Handy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Elmer Helms; two sisters, Doris Hall and Margaret Helms; a brother, Burton Handy; and a granddaughter, Jessica Helms.
Surviving are one daughter, Sherry "Peachy" Pace of Stuart; three sons, Jerry Helms and Perry Helms, both of Stuart, and Terry Helms of Pitkin, CO.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Howell Funeral Home in Patrick Springs by Ministers Gary Combs and Reggie Steele. Burial was in Mountain View United Methodist Church cemetery in Meadows of Dan.
Pallbearers were Scott Pike, Lee Quesinberry, Joseph Helms, Justin Helms, Josh Whitlow, Stephen Hamm, Kevin Pace, Gustavo Rivero, Rocky Helms and Robert Hall.

WILLARD L. KITCHEN
Willard Lee Kitchen, 62, of Bassett, died Sunday, July 9, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
He was born June 9, 1944, in Pipeville, Ky., to the late Leonard and Pearl Johnson Kitchen. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Etta Sue Hairfield; and six brothers, Neil Roger Kitchen, Richard "Dick" Kitchen, Andrew Jack Kitchen, Leonard "Tom" Kitchen Jr., Scott Denver Kitchen and Edward Lewis Kitchen.
He worked as an upholster for Shenandoah Furniture Inc., and was a member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church at Bassett.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy Scott Kitchen of the home; one daughter, Rhonda Leigh Williamson of Kennesaw, Ga.; two sons, Mark Kevin Kitchen of Acworth, Ga., and Wills Scott Kitchen of the home; four sisters, Bertha Chapman of Martinsville, Madonna Philpott of Collinsville, Dolly Stratton of Woolwine and Vira Perry of Logan, W.Va.; one brother, Jack Leonard Kitchen of Martinsville; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Norris Funeral Services with Pastor Terry Covey officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
RAY C. PAYNE JR.
Ray Clarence Payne Jr., 75, of Richmond, died Sunday, July 9, 2006.
He served in the Virginia National Guard and retired from Fort Lee in Richmond. He was also the owner/operator of Ash Grove Christmas Tree Farm in Richmond.
Surviving are his wife, Iris Williams Payne, who was formerly of Stuart; and children, Bonnie Harris of Richmond and Rodney Payne of Jetersville.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) at Morrisett Funeral Home in Richmond. A memorial service will be held following visitation.
MYRTLE H. ROBERTS
Myrtle Hayden Butler Roberts, 73, of Walterboro, N.C., died Friday, July 7, 2006 at Colleton Medical Center.
She was born March 6, 1933 in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late William and Mary Lou Hensley Hayden. She was first married to the late Roscoe Butler and was the widow of Herbert Moody Roberts.
She was the former owner of North Walterboro Truck Stop. She was a member of Welch Creek Baptist Church, the Senior Friends, the PEP Club, and the Young at Heart.
Surviving are one daughter, Sandra Graham Walling of Walterboro; three stepdaughters, Karen Pinnix Driggers and Lisa Padgett, both of Walterboro, and Gail Roberts of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 9 in the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel. Burial was in Welch Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Leigh Lyons, David Hiers, Bryan Hiers, Michael Herndon, B.J. Hunt, and Steven Writesel.

NORMA A. ZANETTI
Norma Axsom Zanetti, 60, of Eden, N.C., died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
A native of Draper, N.C., she was a homemaker. She was a graduate of the criminal justice program at Rockingham Community College and attended Meadowview United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Joe T. Zanetti Sr. of the home; one daughter, Anna Johnson and husband James of Stoneville, N.C.; one son, Joe T. Zanetti Jr. and wife Tina of Axton; her mother and stepfather, Mildred T. and Lonzie Martin of Stuart; one brother, J.L. Axson and wife Shelby of Eden; and grandchildren, Dillon, Casey, Abbey, Luke and Zachery.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 30, at Reynolds Funeral Service. Burial was in Ridge-View Memorial Gardens.

Estelle Hatcher Barnes, 86 , of Monroe, died Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at her home.
A native of Patrick County, her local survivors include three sisters, Eleanor Hatcher Turner, Roberta Hatcher Adams and Alberta Hatcher Fain, all of Stuart.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at Bethany United Methodist Church in Monroe with the Rev. Jack Bartee officiating.

Elizabeth Ruth "Sissy" Bowman Daniel, 42, of Axton, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at her home.
She was born in Forsyth County, N.C., on February 9, 1964. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Penley Bowman Hines.
She was of the Holiness faith.
Surviving are her father and stepmother, Vernon and Janice Bowman of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three sisters, Margie LewAllen and Marilyn Bowman, both of Woolwine, and Eleanor Grindstaff of California; and four brothers, Vernon Lee Grindstaff of Thomasville, N.C., Roger Gibson of Axton, Donald Lee Grindstaff of Illinois and Jerry Lee Bowman of Axton.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Puckett family cemetery with Pastor Gary Brown officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday (tonight) from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

WALKER D. DeHART
Walker Dalton DeHart, 90, of The Landmark Center, Stuart, died Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at the R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Patrick County on March 3, 1916 to the late Paris B. and Dorie Walker DeHart. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Susie Rorrer DeHart; two sisters, Ruth Martin and Ocie Martin; and three brothers, Grover DeHart, Nash DeHart and Frank DeHart.
He retired from Bassett Mirror with 40 years of service.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda D. Turner of Patrick Springs and Peggy D. Goad of Stuart; one sister, Mary Lee Martin of Stuart; and one brother, Harry DeHart of Stuart.
Funeral services were held Friday at Howell Funeral Home in Patrick Springs. The Rev. Jim Churchwell officiated. Burial was in Patrick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Danny DeHart, Justin DeHart, Randolph Goad, Odean Sheppard, Ray Martin, Billy Joe Fulcher and McCray Martin.

Lucy Arnder Goard, 93, of Patrick Springs, died Friday, August 18, 2006 at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart.
She was born in North Carolina on September 28, 1912 to the late George and Addie Barker Arnder. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Goard; four sons, Eugene Goard, George Goard, Larry Goard and J.C. Goard; a sister, Jettie Chapel; and a half-brother, Chester Arnder.
She was a member of Patrick Springs Church of God of Prophecy.
Surviving are two sons, Ray Goard and Pete Goard, both of Patrick Springs; two daughters, Peggy Fleeman of Galax and Myra Reeves of Henry; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Dale Bailey officiating. Burial was in the Goard family cemetery.
Pallbearers were Larry Goard Jr., Brian Goard, Mike Goard, Brandon Hiatt, Terry Lawson and Russell Goard.

Mary Belle Combs Hawks, 72, of Stuart, died Monday, August 21, 2006, at the home of her daughter.
She was born in Carroll County on November 24, 1933 to the late Victor Lafayette and Robbie Belle Spencer Combs. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Kelly "Ted" Combs, Alan Combs, Victor Combs and Leonard Combs.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Bottom Road Tabernacle.
Surviving are two daughters, Sheila Weaver of the home and Patricia Thomas of Mount Airy, N.C.; one son, Brad Hawks of Stuart; two sisters, Opal Bryant and Fatha Blackburn, both of Lambsburg; two brothers, Rev. Paul Combs of Mount Airy and Gene Combs of Lambsburg; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Fellowship Tabernacle. The Revs. Ronald Thomas, Donald Bryant Sr. and Donald Bryant Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

Dora Keller Jenkins, 82, of Blue Ridge Rehab Center, Martinsville, died Friday, August 18, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born February 6, 1924 in Henry County to the late Dewey and Gladys Mason Keller. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Jenkins.
She retired from American of Martinsville and attended Adventure in Faith Church of Martinsville.
Surviving are her stepmother, Mary A. Keller of Newton, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Carolyn Trainham of Patrick Springs; two stepsons, James Jenkins of Ohio and Michael Jenkins of Martinsville; two stepbrothers, Danny Keller and Allen Bowman, both of Newton; nine stepgrandchildren; and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Community Funeral Services. The Rev. Albert J. Robertson officiated. Entombment was in the Roselawn Mausoleum.

James Richard "Bud" Moore, 79, Palmetto School Road, Stuart, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at his residence.

KENNETH D. NELSON
Kenneth Darryl Nelson, 46, of Old Well Road, Spencer, died Friday, August 18, 2006.
He was born in Martinsville on December 27, 1959 to Hoyte Leon Nelson and Joy Hylton Nelson of Spencer. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Buddy and Helen Hylton and Holmes Nelson.
He was employed by Burgess Trucking Co. as a truck driver and worked for Fieldcrest Mills for over 20 years prior to its closing. He was a member of Rich Acres Christian Church where he was a past deacon, and was a former member of Mayo Baptist Church where he was a former deacon.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Lisa Roark Nelson of the home; three daughters, Chasity Nicole Nelson, Olivia Elizabeth Nelson and Shelby Page Nelson, all of the home; one sister, Sherri Dalton of Spencer; one brother, Hoyte L. Nelson Jr. of Spencer; his paternal grandmother, Pearl Nelson of Stuart; three nieces and four nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Rich Acres Christian Church by Minister Tim Hunt and Dr. Dave Cochran. Burial will be in the Mayo Baptist Church cemetery in Spencer.

Ruby Dove Nelson, 89, of Fieldale, died Thursday, August 17, 2006 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born February 12, 1917 in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late Etta Tilley Nelson and Meggs R. Nelson. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Nelson Whitlock and Ethel Nelson Spencer; and five brothers, Oscar Nelson, Carson Nelson, Raymond Nelson, Ernest Nelson and Robert "Beck" Nelson.
She was retired from Leggett Department Store (Belk) and was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Minister George B. Harris officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bobby Nelson, Gary Ashburn, Cecil Spencer, Kaleb Jarrett, Ken Nelson and Jeff Nelson.
