HARRY E. PUCKETT
Harry Earl Puckett, 82, of Stuart and formerly of Martinsville, died Friday, November 10, 2006 in Stuart. He was born in Patrick County on January 8, 1924 to the late Henry R. and Kate Burge Puckett. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Minnie H. Puckett; and two brothers, Terry and Elbert Puckett.
He graduated from Stuart High School, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was retired from DuPont of Martinsville.
Surviving are two sons, Steven E. Puckett of Stuart and Richard W. Puckett of Mount Airy, N.C.; one brother, Morris Puckett of Meadows of Dan; three sisters, Mildred Shelton of Martinsville, and Margaret Sowers and Juanita Mitchell, both of Stuart; five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Puckett will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Revs. J. D. Harmon and Jack Foley and Minister Lawrence Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Puckett family cemetery.

BOBBY L. SMITH
Bobby Leon Smith, 48, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Thursday, November 9, 2006, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was born on July 9, 1958, in Surry County, N.C., to Betty Pack Smith of Mount Airy the late Charlie Leroy Smith. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gail Leroy Smith.
He worked as a truck driver.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are one son, William Charles Smith of Mount Airy; one daughter, Tiffany Michelle Smith of Mount Airy; one
brother, Billy J. Smith of Mount Airy; two sisters, Carol Smith Coleman of Claudville and Lisa Poole of Lowgap, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held a later time.

NELLIE C. STEVENS
Nellie Irene Cole Stevens, 81 of Mount Airy, N.C., died Thursday, November 9, 2006, at her home. She was born in Surry County, N.C., on October 10, 1925 and was a daughter of the late Reid and Daisy Holt Cole. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude James Stevens; a sister, Virginia Burkhart, an infant sister, Kathy Cole; and brothers, James Cole, John Cole, Bruce Cole and Paul Cole.
She was retired from Perry Manufacturing.
Surviving are one daughter, Bonnie Stevens of the home; two brothers, Bobby Cole of Ararat and Lou Cole of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Saturday at Korner's Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by Chaplain Todd Byrd.

MARTHA S. ADKINS
Martha Shelton Adkins, 83, of Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart and formerly of Fairystone Park Highway, Stuart, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006. at the R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Patrick County on June 14, 1923 to the late Posey L. and Lillie Gray Shelton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Emmitt Elwyn Adkins; a brother, R.L. Shelton; and two sisters, Lois Morris and Mary Allen.
She was a member of Stuart Baptist Church, and had been the manager and operator of the former Virginian Restaurant. She was one of the founding organizers of the Home Alone Thanksgiving meal, and had been active for many years in its fund-raising.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Winfred Stowe of Ridgeway, Angela and Earl (Reese Jr.) Morris of Chesapeake, and Lydia and Randy McCallister of Pulaski; two grandchildren, Barry Stowe and Nicholas Morris; one stepgrandchild, Laura Prichett; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Thursday, December 28, 2006, at Stuart Baptist Church. Dr. Clint Hopkins and the Rev. Lee Shelton officiated. Burial was private.

GARY W. BELCHER
Gary Wayne Belcher, 40, of Greensboro, N.C., and formerly of Bassett, died Monday, December 18, 2006, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
He was born on August 17, 1966 and was a son of the late Olen P. and Dora "Dolly" Belcher. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Belcher; and his grandfather, Ralph Hagee.
Surviving are two brothers, Jeffery P. Belcher and Mike Belcher, both of Bassett; his grandmother, Evelyn D. Hagee of Bassett; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Bassett Funeral Services North Chapel with Paul Kennedy officiating. A private graveside service and burial will be held at a later date at Meadows of Dan.
FRANCES M. BIGGS
Frances Martin Biggs, 89, of Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart and formerly of Amos Town Road, Sandy Ridge, N.C., died Friday, December 22, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born February 26, 1917 in Stokes County, N.C., and was a daughter of the late Jacob V. and Ella M. Martin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Titus C. Biggs; six sisters, Jessie Francis, Lola Hall, Maggie Durham, Nealie Corns, Ada Steel and Laura McBrayer; and two brothers, Richard Martin and Paul Martin.
She was a homemaker and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Surviving are one sister, Mary McMillon of Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 26, 2006, at Howell Funeral Home in Patrick Springs by the Rev. Jim Churchwell and Kelly Ratcliff . Burial was in Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Philip McMillan, Timmy Bond, Mike Kahle, Tim Harrell, Clayton Hylton and Ben Hylton.
CHESTER G. BRIM
Chester Gordon Brim of Ararat Hwy., Ararat, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006, at R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital.
He was born February 6, 1925 and was a son of the late McKinley and Bertie Brim.
He was a member of Clarks Creek Progressive Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 55 years, as Sunday school superintendent for over 40 years, and was a member of the choir.
He was a licensed building contractor for over 35 years and was a member of the National Homebuilders Association.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Sarah Alice Green Brim; 10 children, Rachel Clark of Stuart, Inest Dodson of Ararat, Linda Carter of Pilot Mountain, N.C., Brenda Young of Fayetteville, N.C., Margie Hickman of Boston, Ga., Ancion Brim, Lee Brim, Edward Brim, and Ricky Brim, all of Ararat, and Philip Brim of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sisters, Doris Brim of Ararat and Ethel Green of Mount Airy, N.C.; three brothers, Glen Brim, Fred Brim and Bryant Brim of Mount Airy; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, December 31, 2006, at Clarks Creek Progressive Baptist Church. Elder James R. Strickland was the eulogist. Burial was in the church cemetery.

RICHARD F. DeROSA
Richard Frank "David" DeRosa, 64, of Meadows of Dan, died Friday, December 22, 2006 in Englewood, Fla.
He was born in New York and was a son of the late Santos and Rita M. Fabricatore DeRosa. He was also preceded in death by a son, Anthony DeRosa. He had been the owner/operator of Hilltop Restaurant in Meadows of Dan.
Surviving are two daughters, Lisa Feltington of Lynbrook, N.Y., and Eileen Sunshine of Valley Stream, N.Y.; one sister, Annette Fiscella of Valley Stream; four grandchildren; and a significant other, Phyllis Holt of Meadows of Dan.
A graveside service was held Friday, December 29, 2006 at the Handy-Lawson family cemetery in Meadows of Dan.
Pallbearers were Darren Light, Frankie Marshall, Harry Handy, John Cruise, Leonard Dalton and Richard Conner.

BOBBY N. HANCOCK
Bobby Neilous Hancock, 68, of County Line Road, Bassett, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
He was born in Patrick County on September 9, 1938 and was a son of the late Joshua King David Hancock and Mattie Adams Hancock. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Wayne Hancock; seven brothers, Harvey Hancock, Curtis Hancock, Homer Hancock, Walter Hancock, Bill Hancock, Bernard Hancock and Lem Hancock; and three sisters, Ethel Rea, Frances Schumke and Lillian Wimbish.
He was self-employed and was a member of New Life Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Hancock of the home; two sons, Paul Hancock of Preston and Jimmy Hancock of Bassett; one daughter, Judy Handy of Patrick Springs; two sisters, Helen Sandlin of Haynes and Juanita Wahnee of Hampton; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 29, 2006, at Bassett Funeral Services south chapel with Pastor Cletus Lackey and Pastor Danny Gilley officiating. Burial was in the Foley family cemetery.
TREVA H. HAYNES
Treva Hall Haynes, 87 of Ararat, died Sunday, December 31, 2006, at her home.
She was born in Carroll County on October 10, 1919 to the late Sam and Ida Williams Hall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Kelly Haynes Sr., three sisters and five brothers.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Robert Haynes of Mount Airy, N.C., Jerry Haynes Jr. of Pilot Mountain, N.C., and Odell Haynes of Hillsville; a sister, Vallie Haynes of Ararat; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Oak Grove Baptist Church. The Revs. Louis Martin and Kelly Haynes will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

REUBEN HOPKINS
Reuben Hopkins, 86, of The Landmark Center, Stuart, died Saturday, December 30, 2006, at R.J. Reynolds-Patrick County Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 22, 1920 in Henry County to the late Peter King Hopkins and Mary Lou Hopkins. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, King David Hopkins, William Lewis Hopkins and George E. Hopkins; and four sisters, Martha H. Dalton and three infant sisters.
He retired from Bassett Superior Lines and was a member of New Covenant Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are one sister, Billie F. "Mattie" Holley of Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Collins Funeral Services chapel with the Revs. David Robertson and Jackie Thacker officiating. Burial was in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
MARY M. JOHNSON
Mary "Ethel" Morrison Johnson, 85, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Tuesday, December 19, 2006. at Northern Hospital of Surry County.
She was born February 17, 1921 in Patrick County to the late Charles and Mary Martin Morrison. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Johnson; three brothers, Tom Morrison, Pete Morrison and Monk Morrison; and a son-in-law, Junior Thomas.
She was a homemaker and member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mickey Murib of Winston Salem, N.C., and Nelda Thomas and Mary Jenkins, both of Mount Airy; two sisters, Irene "Sue" Nelson and Alice Gardner, both of Mount Airy; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
A memorial service was held Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Moody Funeral Home chapel of Mount Airy. The Rev. Robert McCrary officiated.

CURTIS R. KOGER
Curtis Randolph Koger, 86, of Norfolk, died Friday, December 22, 2006.
He was born March 20, 1920 and was a son of the late Rev. Samuel D. Koger and Lillie Allen Koger.
He served in the U.S. Air Force in the 8th Air Force, 100th Bomb Group where he received the Flying Cross medal and three Bronze Stars.
Koger was a member of First Baptist Church in Norfolk where he served as deacon and usher. He was also a member of the Disabled American Vets and Gideons International.
Surviving are his wife, Inez S. Koger of Norfolk; two sons, David L. Koger of Connecticut and Curtis R. Koger Jr. of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Carline Koger and Dorothy Koger, both of Patrick Springs, and Christine Koger of Martinsville; two brothers, Rieves Koger and Allen Koger, both of Patrick Springs; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at First Baptist Church in Norfolk. The Rev. Dick Baker officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

John Akers Lawson Sr., 88, of Ridgeway, died Friday, December 22, 2006 at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
He was born in Patrick County on September 22, 1918 to the late Willis and Susie Walker Lawson. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Watkins Lawson; a son, Johnny Lawson; four sisters, Beatrice Morse, Mozelle Dalton, Erma Lawson and Virginia Inman; and two brothers, Aubrey Lawson and Ruffin Lawson.
He graduated from Stuart High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from DuPont as a maintenance supervisor with 40 years of service and was a member of Peter's Creek Baptist Church in Lawsonville, N.C.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Lawson of the home; one daughter, Jeanette Wise of Portsmouth; one son, Niall W. Lawson of Reidsville, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Jean Dorris of Pensacola, Fla.; one stepson, William T. Moreland of Springfield, Tenn.; two sisters, Lola Hall of Stuart and Grace Lusk of Salem; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 27, 2006, at McKee-Stone Funeral Services chapel. The Revs. Terry Ragsdale and Johnson Gupton officiated. Burial, with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans' Memorial Honor Guard, was in the Peter's Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lewis Watkins, Oneil Watkins, Mike Watkins, Tommy Inman, Stephen Wise and David Moore.
LILLIAN H. LOWE
Lillian Ruth Hall Lowe, 80, of Dobson, N.C., died Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born in Stokes County, N.C., on December 24, 1926 to the late Sam and Annie Goins Hall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Ernest Lowe.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are one daughter, Laura Faye Lowe of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Willie Lowe of the home and Doyle Ray Lowe of Staunton; three sisters, Jane Hooker of Germanton, N.C., Cornelia Hubbard of Meadows of Dan and Virginia Lawless of Stuart; one brother, Herman Hall of Dobson; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson by the Rev. Joe Atkins. Burial will be in Skyline Memory Gardens in Mount Airy, N.C.
