Bonnie Kay Morgan, 61, of Claudville, died Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at her home.
She was born in West Virginia on August 23, 1946 and was a daughter of the late Arnie and Daisy Lowe Vance. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Buchanan and Jean Johnson.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Kenneth Caldwell of Claudville; three sons, Shane Morgan of Claudville, Martin Morgan of Stuart and Phillip Morgan of Claudville; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four sisters, Judy Nelson of West Virginia, Melissa Albright of Hickory, N.C., Susie Browning of Abingdon and Mary Workman of West Virginia.
All services were private.

Nellie Mitchell Owens, 80, of Bassett, died Saturday, December 8, 2007, at Stanleytown Health Care Center in Bassett.
She was born on November 11, 1927 and was a daughter of the late James Murray "Ran" Mitchell and Verda Jane Collins Mitchell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wilson Owens.
She was a member of Fairway Baptist Church in Bassett.
Surviving are one son, Terry Lee Owens of Lexington, N.C., and one brother, Lloyd Mitchell of Axton.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart. Burial was in Stateline Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

MARIE G. WHITE
Marie Gilley White, 63, of Bassett, died Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Patrick County on February 9, 1944 and was a daughter of the late Riley P. and Eldean O'dell Gilley. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Fulcher and Debbie Gilley; and two brothers, Jesse Gilley and Marvin Gilley.
She was a member of Hill Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Darius R. White of the home; one daughter, Bonita W. Young of Cary, N.C.; two sons, Allan White of Rocky Mount and Randall White of Martinsville; five sisters, Dorothy Via of Collinsville, Hazel Gilley of Martinsville, Inez Hollandsworth of Bassett, Barbara Moore of Martinsville and Judy Nester of Rocky Mount; and one brother, Paul Gilley of Bassett; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Funeral services were held Friday at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville Chapel with the Rev. Bob Gillispie officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Donald Via, Mark Via, Tim Moore, Jimmy Gilley, Jeffrey Gilley, Randy Gilley, Barry Hollandsworth and Raymond Hylton.

JOHN D. BLANKENSHIP
John D. Blankenship, 76, of Martinsville, died Monday, December 31, 2007, at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville.
He was born October 4, 1931 and was a son of the late Homer Blankenship and Helen Cobler Blankenship. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Roosevelt Blankenship.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with five Bronze Stars. He worked for the former Bassett-Walker Knitting Co. and was a member of Rich Acres Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys Burge Blankenship of the home; two daughters, Sherrie Conner of Rocky Mount and Dana Blankenship; one son, Jerry Blankenship of Fort Sill, Okla.; one stepson, Robert B. (Bobby) McKinney of Charlottesville; one sister, Nellie Branscome of Ridgeway; five brothers, William H. (Bill) Blankenship of Bassett, Charlie Blankenship and Clifford Blankenship, both of Collinsville, Stuart Blankenship of Stuart and Raymond Blankenship of Axton; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday at Rich Acres Christian Church, Martinsville with Minister Tim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

FERN I. BRYANT
Fern I. Bryant, 90, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at Pheasant Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born in Patrick County on March 5, 1917 and was a daughter of the late Charles P. Bryant and Ethel Thompson Bryant. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ivan D. Bryant and Charles Curtis Bryant.
Surviving are two nieces and several cousins.
A graveside service was held Monday at Sherwood Cemetery in Salem.
H. SWANSON FIELDS
H. Swanson Fields, 73, of Bassett, died Monday, December 31, 2007, at R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Grayson County on July 12, 1934, and was a son of the late John Coy Fields and Irene Hale Fields. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Gallimore.
He was self-employed as a mechanic and painter most of his life, and he played fiddle with various musicians at community events.
Fields was of the Holiness faith.
Surviving are one daughter, Becky Fields Odell of Collinsville; two sons, Dale Fields and Elton Fields, both of Martinsville; two sisters, Freda Snead of Indiana and Arbra Knepka of Martinsville; one brother, Kenneth Fields of Florida; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday at Community Funeral Services in Ridgeway with the Revs. Harold Fitzgerald and Sherman Ray Fields officiating. Burial was in the Turner family cemetery in Bassett.
Pallbearers were Joseph Fields, Andrew Barker, Steven Dodson, Jonathan Arthur, Jonathan Fields, Ben Simpkins, Avery Adkins and Aaron Adkins.

COY W. GILLEY
Coy William Gilley, 69, of Bassett, died Tuesday, January 1, 2008, as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born in Patrick County on December 3, 1938 and was a son of the late Patrick Gilley and Callie Deal Gilley. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Gilley and Henry Gilley; and a sister, Rosie Cox.
He had worked more than 15 years for Meals on Wheels, and was a member of People's Church of the Living God.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel Gilley of the home; one daughter, Alberta Blackburn of Spencer; two sons, Mitchell Gilley of the home and Lloyd Gilley of Martinsville; one stepson, Frank Dunford of Bassett; one sister, Ruby Whitt of Patrick Springs; three brothers, Walter Gilley and Curtis Gilley, both of Bassett, and Richard Gilley of Stuart; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday in the South Chapel of Bassett Funeral Service. The Revs. Ronnie Craig and Dwayne Pruitt officiated. Burial was in the Deal family cemetery.
EDNA L. HUGHES
Edna Light Hughes, 94, of Martinsville, died Monday, January 7, 2008, at R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Patrick County on January 24, 1913 and was a daughter of the late Albert "Abb" and Dollie Handy Light. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Grant Hughes; a son, Maynard Hughes; a granddaughter, Kathy J. Lane; two sisters, Bessie Reynolds and Beadie Turner; and three brothers, Clifford Light, Camden Light and Raymond Light.
Surviving are three daughters, Verna Johnston of Martinsville, Judy Morrison of Abingdon and Phyllis Thacker of Ridgeway; one son, Samuel Albert Hughes of Martinsville; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Grace Turner of Stuart.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Rev. Jim Churchwell and Elder Donnie Conner officiating. Burial will follow in the Hughes-Lawson family cemetery.

MALVIN W. HYLTON
Malvin Wayne Hylton, 69, of Penn Store Rd., Spencer, died Monday, January 7, 2008, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Henry County on April 6, 1938 and was a son of the late Robert Malvin Hylton and Victoria Nance Hylton. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Dolly Kingery Hylton.
He was a retired farmer and was a member of Friendly Christian Church in Horsepasture.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Marie Hylton of the home; three sons, Robert Wayne Hylton of Patrick Springs, Malvin RyDale Hylton of Eden, N.C., and Samuel Hosea Hylton of Worcester, Mass.; one sister, Sue Gilley of Spencer; two granddaughters; one stepgranddaughter; one stepgrandson; three stepgreat-grandchildren and a niece.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mayo Christian Church with Ministers Lawrence Harris and Mark Wright officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight (Wednesday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home in Patrick Springs.

CLETUS J. LINSTER
Cletus James "CJ" Linster, 56, of Stuart, died Wednesday, December. 26, 2007.
He was born in Patrick County on April 28, 1951 and was a son of Willie Linster Sr. and Cledious King Linster of Stuart.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War and he was an insurance agent.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are one daughter, Dannielle Smith of Long Beach, N.Y.; four brothers, Willie Linster Jr. of Walnut Cove, N.C., and Herman Linster, Thurman Linster and Andrew Linster, all of Stuart; four sisters, Dorothy Linster of Blackstone, Carolyn Daniels and Gloria Minor, both of Statesville, N.C., and Stephanie Hatcher of Stuart; one grandson; and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Samaria Holiness Church in Stuart. Burial was in the church cemetery.
LOTTIE P. MARSHALL
Lottie Ann Puckett Marshall, 94, of Duplex Lane, Ararat, died Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County, in Mount Airy, N.C.
She was born November 5, 1913 in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late Columbus Wilson and Permila Victoria Bowman Puckett. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Cannie Alexander Marshall; a son, Harley Vestal Marshall; a sister, Lennis Bowman and five brothers, Cecil Puckett, Ancil Puckett, Dennie Puckett, Leonard Puckett and Lacy Puckett.
She retired from Renfro and was a charter member of Doe Run Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Shirley Marshall Hill of Winston-Salem, N.C., Verlie Bishop and husband Richard and Avis Yvonne Hawks and husband, Lance; two sons, Virgil "Buck" Marshall and wife, Patty and Steve "Pete" Marshall and wife, Sharon, all of Ararat; daughter in-law, Kay Marshall of Lucas, Kan.; 19 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Friday at Doe Run Baptist Church by the Rev Terry Vaughan. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Ota Virginia Puckett Sumner, 82, of Doe Run Road, Ararat, died Thursday, January 3, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born November 30, 1925 in Carroll County and was a daughter of the late Arthur Joseph and Etta Ada Hawks Puckett. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Granville Marshall; and two sisters, Lossie Viola Puckett and Hattie Puckett
Surviving are her husband, Eddie Lee Sumner of the home; one daughter, Delphia Bowman of Mount Airy, N.C.; four stepdaughters and their spouses, Ruth Marshall of Mount Airy, Helen and Jerry Gwyn of Mooresville, N.C., Judy and Ray Kendrick of Ashburn, Ga., and Ellen and Larry McCard of Ashburn, Ga.; two grandchildren, Sammy Bowman and Sabrina Bowman Lovill, both of Mount Airy; two great-grandchildren, Dustin Ray Lovill and Kirsten Bowman; two sisters, Libby Puckett and Frances Eva Mosley, both of Mount Airy; and one brother, Clevers Puckett of Hillsville.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy by the Revs. Rickey Martin, Robbie Sizemore, and Terry W. Vaughan. Burial was in the Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery.
CHRISTINE TAYLOR
Christine Taylor, 95, of Martinsville, died Sunday, January 6, 2008, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center.
She was born in Patrick Springs on October 30, 1912, and was a daughter of the late Harbour Leath Taylor and Bessie Shough Taylor. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Pauline T. Goff; and four brothers, Frank Lee Taylor Sr., Harbour Leath "H.L." Taylor Jr., Mack W. Taylor Sr. and Carter W. Taylor.
She attended elementary school in Crumpler, W.Va., and Jefferson High School in Roanoke. She worked at Good Friends Dress Shop and retired in 1977 as the eastern district supervisor.
She attended Providence United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Georgia Schilling of Martinsville and Dolores Whetstone of Manakin-Sabot; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held Tuesday at Providence United Methodist Church cemetery with Pastor David Westmoreland officiating.

SALLIE P. TAYLOR
Sallie Patterson Taylor, 96, of George Taylor Road, Spencer, died Saturday, January 5, 2008, at R.J. Reynolds Patrick Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Spencer on January 27, 1911 to the late Jessie R. Patterson and Molly Mills Patterson. She was also preceded in death by her husband; Thomas Clarence Taylor, two sons; Reid Taylor and T.G. Taylor, a sister; Rainie Rea; and four brothers; Clyde Patterson, Willie Patterson, Jessie Ben Patterson and James Patterson.
She was a member of Mayo Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son; Sammy Taylor of Spencer, two sisters, Ruth Ward of Spencer and Hallie Stone of Bassett; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren
Funeral services were held Monday at Mayo Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Steinboch officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery
