Joel Phillip Terry
Mr. Joel Phillip Terry, 88, of Nathalie, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at his home.
He was the son of the late Percy C. Terry and Maude D. Terry, and was married to the late Frances Brumfield Terry.
Mr. Terry was a member of the Mulberry Baptist Church and was a retired farmer.
Joel Phillip Terry is survived by four daughters, Ellen T. Tunnicliff and husband Jerold of Nathalie, Margaret Ann Terry of Nathalie, Betty Terry of Danville, and Deborah Terry of Nathalie; two grandchildren, Lisa Brown and husband Jarrod of Danville, James Tunnicliff and wife Karen of South Hill; two great-grandchildren, Autumn and Madison.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Terry and by one sister, Neva Terry.
Funeral services for Joel Phillip Terry will be held Tuesday, March 9, at 11 a.m. at Mulberry Baptist Church, with the Rev. Latta B. Terry, the Rev. Coy Terry and the Rev. William Venable officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home tonight from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Jerry Lee Thomas
Jerry Lee Thomas, 58, of Clermont, Fla. died February 23, 2004 at his home.
Mr. Thomas was born in Halifax County on March 3, 1945, the son of Ulysses Cameron Thomas and Gertrude Chaney Thomas.
He was a graduate of Shenandoah Valley Academy and attended Southern Missionary College in Collegdale, Tenn. and later attended William and Mary College in Williamsburg. He was retired from U.S. Airways as a reservationist.
Survivors include one brother, Shannon B. Thomas and wife, Sissy, of Halifax; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
A graveside service for Mr. Thomas will be held February 27 at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Garland Day officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of Lib Chandler, 2800 Halifax Road, South Boston.

Francis Drake Tisdale
Francis Drake Tisdale of Clarksville, 87, died March 12, 2004 at the Hundley Annex, South Hill.
Mr. Tisdale was married to the late Ruth Elam Tisdale and was a member of Twin River Masonic Lodge #338. He served during WW II in the U.S. Army Air Corp and was retired from Imperial Tobacco Co. He was a member of Clarksville Baptist church.
His survivors are a daughter: Martha Drake Gunther of Richmond; son: Joseph Thomas Tisdale of Pueblo, Colo.; grandchildren; and a friend: Nevelene Fendley.
A funeral service was held March 15 at Watkins Cooper Lyon Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Oakhurst Cemetery.

Willard Rudolph Tuck
Willard Rudolph Tuck, 76, of Clover, died Saturday, January 3, 2004, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
He was born in Bedford County on July 29, 1927 the son of Albert Tuck and Maggie Neal Tuck and was married to Elizabeth Noblin Tuck.
Mr. Tuck was a member of Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, five brothers, Kyle Tuck of Baltimore, Md., Guy Tuck of Altavista, Calvin Tuck and Lawson Tuck, both of Gretna, and Fred Tuck of Bedford, six sisters, Lenora Meadow of Altavista, Lois Kendrick of Bedford, Pearl Ashwell of Roanoke, Lula Todd of Baltimore, Md., and Doris Shelton and Naomi Howell, both of Huddleston, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, January 5, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Pizzeck and the Rev. David Adkin conducting the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
John Thomas ‘Bubba’ Tucker
John Thomas "Bubba" Tucker, 54, of Alexandria and formerly of Alton, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at the Alexandria Hospital.
He was born in Alton on July 8, 1949, the son of the late Isaac M. and Thelma M. Dunn.
Mr. Tucker is survived by one brother, Ralph Dunn of Hampton, two sisters, Annie C. and Viola M. Dunn, both of Alton, one great-aunt, Frances Jeffress of Philadelphia, Pa., three aunts, Hattie Stovall of South Boston, Shirley Coleman of Alexandria, and Penrose Boxley of Bold Springs, one uncle, Gene Tucker of Alexandria, two sisters-in-law, Cora Dunn of Hampton and Jannie Dunn of Newport News, one brother-in-law, Joseph Featherston, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Dan River Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. James Thomas officiating. Burial followed in the family cemetery.
Mae Farmer Tune
Mae Farmer Tune, 76, of South Boston died March 14, 2004 at Boston Manor in South Boston. Mrs. Tune was retired from Electric Service.
She was born in Halifax County the daughter of the late Oscar Ewell Farmer and Emma Hughes Farmer and was married to George Edward Tune. Mrs. Tune was a lifetime member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Lynn Blanks Tune of Danville; two sisters, Ruth F. Hall of Raleigh, N.C. and Lois F. Lee of Newport News; and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Farmer of South Boston. She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Laurine Carmichael; and one brother, Maynard Farmer.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tune were held March 16 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Wilkins officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Joe D. Via, 52, of Keysville died March 1, 2004.
Surviving are his wife, Diane Cole Via; one daughter, Nicole D. Via of Keysville; two brothers, Jack Via and Mack Via; one sister, Dorie Fields, all of Missouri; his mother-in-law, Jeanette T. Cole of Keysville.
A funeral service for Mr. Via will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow, March 4 at Browning Funeral Home in Keysville with burial in Eureka Baptist Church Cemetery.

Essie Martin Wade
Essie Martin Wade, 92, of L.P. Bailey Memorial Highway, Nathalie died January 8, 2004 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Wade was born in Halifax County on July 31, 1911, the daughter of Felix D. Martin and Mary Powell Martin and was married to Earlie Thomas Wade Sr.
Mrs. Wade was a member of First Baptist Church of Millstone and was employed many years by the Halifax County Public School System.
Survivors include two sons, Earlie T. Wade Jr. and wife, Lorene, of Halifax, and Howard F. Wade and wife, Algie, of Nathalie; one daughter, Emily W. Roark and husband, Buddy, of Martinsville; one sister, Hallie M. Puckett of Nathalie; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Mrs. Wade will be held tomorrow, January 10 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Millstone with the Revs. Bob Watts and Donnie Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7:00 until 8:30 at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the home of her sons, 3067 L.P. Bailey Memorial Hwy, and 14220 L.P. Bailey Memorial Hwy.
Minnie Bette Thomas Waggoner
A graveside service for Mrs. Minnie Bette Thomas Waggoner will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Boston.
Mrs. Waggoner of Colonial Heights, formerly of Halifax County, died March 12, 2004 at the Colonial Heights Convalescent Center in Hopewell.
She was born in Halifax County on Nov. 19, 1919, a daughter of George Thomas and Eliza Redd Thomas and was married to Amiel Oscar Waggoner.
Mrs. Waggoner was 84.
She is survived by two sons, Roy Waggoner of Chester and Willie Waggoner and wife Brenda of South Boston, one daughter, Nancy Hatcher and husband James of South Boston, seven grandchildren, Lisa Yager and Kevin Waggoner of Chester, Sandra Waggoner and Susan Waggoner of South Boston, David Tuck of Virgilina, Carol Tuck of Alton and Patricia Tuck of South Boston, five great-grandchildren and one brother, Warren Thomas, survives.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 16, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Willie and Brenda Waggoner, 808 Randolph Ave., South Boston.
Flossie Conner Wallace
Flossie Conner Wallace, 77, of 1040 Heron Trail, Randolph died January 20, 2004.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy W. Hazelwood of Randolph and Jannie W. Lewis of Clover; two sons, Louis A. Wallace Jr. and John W. Wallace, both of Clover; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her husband, Louis A. Wallace Sr.; and a grandson, Gerald W. Hazelwood.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow, January 22 in Providence Presbyterian Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Charlie Wayne Waller
Charlie Wayne Waller of 3236 Buffalo Road, Long Island, died January 19, 2004. He was the son of the late Chris Waller and Estelle Waller and was married to Ernestine Waller.
His survivors include his wife of Washington, DC; one son, Wayne Antonio Waller of Md; his mother of Long Island; four sisters, Patsy Word of Long Island, Pearlie Jean Grasty and husband, Alexander, of Long Island, Darlene Chambers and husband, Eddie, of Forest, Md., Saundra Tucker and husband, Roger, of Long Island; three brothers, Howard Waller and wife, Joyce, of Long Island, Thurman Waller and wife, Doreen, of Philadelphia, Pa., and Theodore Waller and wife, Frances, of Renan; foster sister and brothers, Mary Ellen Clark of Chatham, Eddie Clark of South Boston, Gary Barksdale of Lynchburg, and Reggie Clark of Fla.
A funeral service for Mr. Waller will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 25 at First Buffalo Baptist Church in Long Island with burial in the church cemetery.
Randal Ralph Ward
A former WHLF radio announcer, Randal 'Randy' Ralph Ward, 36, of Chapel Hill, N.C. died February 3, 2004 at his home.
Mr. Ward was born in Clearwater, Fla. on January 17, 1968, and moved with his family to Chapel Hill in 1976. He lived in Halifax 1982-84, and in 1990 was employed as an announcer for WHLF, and by Gilliam's TV and Appliances. He returned to Chapel Hill where he was a well known rock musician in the Triangle area, performing with 'Metal Flake Mother,' 'Family Dollar Pharoahs', and most recently in his one man band 'Protean Spook.' He was a furniture maker with Stoneline Designs in Hillsborough, N.C.
Survivors of Mr. Ward include his parents, Donald and Gail Ward, of Franklinton, N.C.; a sister, Amy Ward Brogden and her husband, Jeremy Brogden, of Albany, Ga.; a brother, Robert Ward and wife, Kelly, of Holly Springs, N.C.; and a devoted partner, Amanda Yaggy, of Chapel Hill.
A memorial was held in Chapel Hill on February 15.

Rev. Archie G. Warren Sr.
Rev. Archie G. Warren Sr., 78, of 2048 Deer Run Road, Halifax died March 11, 2004 at The Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham, N.C.
Rev. Warren was born on August 14, 1925, the son of the late Arthur Warren and Beatrice Hargrove Warren James and was married to Mary Marable Warren. He was a member of New Arbor Baptist Church in South Boston, and was a retired U.S. Army Veteran.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Allena Rawls and husband, Amos, of Virginia Beach; Shareon W. Smith and husband, Sam, of South Boston, and Cynthia Warren of Halifax; two sons, Archie Warren Jr. and wife, Gayle, of Phoenix, Ariz. and Rev. Alan Warren and wife, Sandra, of Englewood, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Rev. Warren was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow, March 18 at 1 p.m. at New Arbor Baptist Church with the Revs. Nelson Stamps and Wesley Elam officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Rose Tucker Watson
Rose Tucker Watson, 76, of 1160 Elkhorn Road, Java died February 5, 2004 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Watson was born in Halifax County on July 29, 1927, the daughter of the late Melvin C. Tucker and Sarah Harris Tucker and was married to the late Edward Watson. She was a member of Elkhorn Baptist Church, retired from the Philadelphia Public Schools and from the public school system in the Bahamas.
Survivors include one son, Donald Watson of Java; one grandchild; three brothers, Loyal Tucker, Hampton Tucker and Harold Perall Tucker, all of Java; three sisters, Lucy P. Stephens, Amazie Terry and Maude T. Austin, all of Java. Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by one son, Elliott Watson; one sister, Ethel Pannell and two brothers, Willis and James J. Tucker.
A funeral service was held February 8 at 2 p.m. at Elkhorn Baptist Church with the Rev. C.L. Motley officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mary Helen Dunn Walton
Mary Helen Dunn Walton, 96, of 380 Mt. Tabor Road, Vernon Hill died February 23, 2004 at Roman Eagle Nursing Home in Danville.
Mrs. Walton was born on March 30, 1907, in Pittsylvania County the daughter of Earnest Pierce Dunn and Carrie Young Thompson Dunn, and was married to Wade Norman Walton.
Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy W. Motley and Carolyn W.
Simpson, both of Vernon Hill and Frances W. Hastings of Blairs; two sons, W.T. Walton and Norman B. Walton, both of Vernon Hill; one brother, Newman Dunn of South Boston; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Dunn; and two sisters, Hazel Anderson and Lessie Fowler.
Funeral services for Mrs. Walton will be held today, February 25 at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Herman Absher conducting the service. Burial w ill follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.

Queen Wade White
Queen Wade White, 67, of Grubby Road, Halifax died January 5, 2004 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mrs. White was born August 10, 1936, the daughter of Solomon Wade and Mattie Wade and was married to William White. She was a member of County Line Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Edmunds of Richmond, Carolyn White of Frederick, Md., Linda Henderson of Halifax and Deborah Barnette of South Boston; one son, Michael White of Halifax; one stepson, Jerry Ragsdale; two sisters, Bessie Ferrell of South Boston and Thelma White of New York; two brothers, Kenneth Womack of Md. and Walter Womack of South Boston; 35 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Marie Ferrell of the home; a devoted nephew, George Sparrow; and Emily Edgar whom she raised.
A funeral service for Mrs. White will be held tomorrow, January 10 at County Line Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Otis Dillard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Gwendolyn Faye Lowery Whitlow
Gwendolyn Faye Lowery Whitlow, 84, of South Boston, died Friday, February 13, 2004, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Lowery was born in Halifax County on October 29, 1919, the daughter of the late Mack Aldy Lowery and Annie Comer Lowery and was married to the late Roby Holt Whitlow.
She was a retired employee of J.P. Stevens and was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Lowery is survived by three sons, Tommy Whitlow and wife Sharon and Rick Whitlow and wife Johnette, both of Virgilina, and Ray Whitlow and wife Sonja of South Boston, one brother, Paul Lowery of Richmond, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Orleans Lowery, and one grandson, Adam Whitlow.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 16, at 2 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frankie Reaves officiating.
Burial will take place at Shady Grove U.M.C. Cemetery.
