Tebe Cleveland 'Rip' Horton Jr.
Tebe Cleveland 'Rip' Horton Jr., 57, of 206 Summit Drive, South Boston died December 10, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mr. Horton was born in Halifax County on March 30, 1946, the son of Tebe Cleveland Horton Sr. and Bertha Thomas Horton. He was of the Holiness faith and was a truck driver for Fallen Truckling.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, December 14 at 2 p.m. at Halifax Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Harper Davis will officiate.
Survivors of Mr. Horton include one niece, Dale Snead of Halifax; and a special friend, Rachel Rakes of Martinsville. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margie Horton Vaughan and Odessa Horton Sink.
The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Saturday evening between 7:00 and 8:30, and other times at the home.
Janie Mayhew Hubbard
Janie Mayhew Hubbard, 90, of 1010 Peaks Trail, Nathalie died October 5, 2003 in Autumn Care of Altavista.
Born March 7, 1913, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Quitman Mayhew and Hattie Brown Mayhew.
Mrs. Hubbard was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Blanks Hubbard. She was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church, a member of the Republican Grove Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and was a homemaker.
Survivors include Rebecca Hubbard Dillard, Peggy Hubbard Rogers and Nellie G. Saunders.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hubbard were held October 7 at 2 p.m. at Colbert-Moran Chapel in Gretna by the Rev. Latta Terry. Burial followed in Mulberry Baptist Church Cemetery.

Solena Hubbard
Funeral services for Mrs. Solena Dunkley Hubbard will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Halifax with the Rev. Andy Bawtree officiating.
Burial will take place in County Line Christian Church Cemetery in Axton.
Mrs. Hubbard, 98, of Halifax, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at The Woodview.
She was born in Richmond on July 17, 1905, a daughter of Alexander Forest Hubbard and Solena Ragland Moorefield Dunkley, and was married to Eugene Forest Hubbard.
Mrs. Hubbard was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
She is survived by one niece, Dr. Patricia Dunn of Greenville, N.C., and special friends Mrs. Annie Lee Montague of Raleigh, N.C. and her daughters Nancy Massey, Sue Daughtry and Janet Gropp, also of Raleigh, N.C.
Addie Elizabeth Via Hylton
Addie Elizabeth Via Hylton, 78, of Collinsville died September 23, 2003 at Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Hylton was born in Patrick County on February 8, 1925, the daughter of the late Solomon G. Via and Lucy Jane Bryant Via and was married to the late E.G. Hylton Jr. She was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Vickie H. Hill and husband, Edward, of Trinity, N.C.; two sons, Jerry Hylton and wife, Jean, of Scottsburg and Gene Hylton and wife, Nancy, of Mansfield, Ohio; one brother, Coy Via and wife, Lauren, of Fieldale; one sister, Vera Joyce of Collinsville; six grandchildren, Ryan, Shawn, Joshua and Terry Hylton and Lauren and Sarah Hill; three great-grandchildren, Seth, Jagger and Adam Hylton. Mrs. Hylton was also preceded in death by two brothers, Buren and Vernon Via; and three sisters, Ocie McAlexander, Elsie Janney and Myrtle Tilley.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hylton were held September 27 at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home in Martinsville with Pastor George Gorman officiating. Burial followed in Roselawn Burial Park.

E. Bradley Ingram
E. Bradley Ingram, 56, of 1115 Chestnut Road, Nathalie died November 10, 2003 at Duke University Medical Center.
Mr. Ingram was born in Halifax County on March 23, 1947, the son of Elisha G. Ingram and Carlyle B. Ingram and was married to Shirley Younger Ingram. He was a member of Catawba Baptist Church where he served as deacon, clerk and Sunday school secretary. He was former principal of Sydnor Jennings Elementary School.
Survivors include his wife; and one son, Christopher Bradley Ingram of Danville.
Funeral services for Mr. Ingram will be held today, November 12 at 11 a.m. at Catawba Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Watts officiating.

Hallie Belle Ferrell Jackson
Hallie Belle Ferrell Jackson, 89, of 1113 Birch Elmo Road, South Boston died October 8, 2003 in Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born October 20, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Algie B. and Fannie Fallen Ferrell and was married to Joseph Jackson Jr., who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jackson was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church, where she served as the Church Mother, was a member of the Deaconess Board, Missionary Board and was past president of the Gospel Chorus.
Survivors include three sons, Ray L.C. Jackson and wife, Brenda, of South Boston, Joseph D. Jackson and wife, Joyce, and William P. Jackson, all of Halifax; four daughters, Edna Mae Logan and husband, Eugene, of Nathalie, Joann Merite, Helen B. Jackson and Ruby J. Chambers, all of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Roy Ferrell and his wife, Dorothy, of Lanham, Md; two sisters, Adelle F. Glass and husband, Luther, of Vernon Hill and Elsie Lee F. Anderson of South Boston; a special niece, Vernell Owens; 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services for Mrs. Jackson were held October 12 at 2 p.m. at Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Arthur E. Crews officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Stover Singleton James Sr.
Stover Singleton James Sr., age 88, of 1182 E. Hyco Rd., South Boston, died October 6, 2003 at his home.
Mr. James was born January 28, 1915 in Halifax County, son of the late Charles Aaron James and Josephine Noel Stevens James. He was a retired owner of Riverdale Exxon and served in the Army. He was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church, Woodmen of the World Lodge 106 and American Legion Post 8.
His survivors include his wife: May Wade Oliver James of South Boston; two sons: John Banks James of Alton and Stover S. James Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter: Wendy J. Woltz of Cary, N.C.; sister: Margaret J. Bennett of South Boston; granddaughter: Jessica Hope Woltz and grandson: Zachary Benjamin Woltz.
Visitation will be held tonight, October 8 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. at Ash Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. John Eure officiating. Burial will be held in the Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Eva Mary Brandon Jeffreys
Eva Mary Brandon Jeffreys, 76, of Baltimore, Md., formerly of Halifax County, died September 30, 2003.
Mrs. Jeffreys was born in Halifax County on March 23, 1927, the daughter of the late Charlie Edward Brandon and Sarah Jane Brandon and was married to the late John Herman Jeffreys. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cherry Hill in Baltimore, and was a former member of Greater Brandon Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Charles, Ernest McCoy and John Anthony Jeffreys; three brothers, Clifton, Edward and Charlie E. Brandon, all of Alton; eight grandchildren; three daughters-in-law, the Rev. Frances Jeffreys, Eunice Jeffreys and Jean Jeffreys, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jeffreys will be held October 5 at 2 p.m. at Greater Brandon Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Cheryl Zuzolo Jenkins
Cheryl Zuzolo Jenkins, 57, of 1176 State Shed Road, Nathalie died October 29, 2003 at her home. She was the wife of Floyd ‘Butch’ Jenkins.
Mrs. Jenkins was born in Miami, Fla. on July 14, 1946, the daughter of Philip Zuzolo of Virginia Beach and the late Dorene Van Kirk Zuzolo. She was a licensed practical nurse.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three sons, Richard D. Jenkins and Timothy C. Jenkins, both of Virginia Beach, and Michael F. Jenkins of Chesapeake; two sisters, Diane Moore of Suffolk and Christine Herrit of Moyock, N.C.; and four grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. November 4 at Cox Funeral Home in Norfolk.
Grace Dennis Jennings
Grace Dennis Jennings of Nathalie died December 15, 2003 in Lynchburg.
Born December 23, 1923, she was the daughter of Charles and Marie Baker Dennis. Mrs. Jennings was a member of New Shiloh Baptist Church in Nathalie.
Survivors include her husband, Orange Jennings; three daughters, Sylvia Jean Garner and husband, L.G., of Nathalie, Pauline Foster and husband, Russell, of Richmond, and Wanda Brown and husband, Antori, of Nathalie; four sons, James O. Jennings of Gladys, Mitchell Jennings and wife, Yvonne, Elvin L. Jennings and wife, Sharon, all of Nathalie, and Roderick Jennings of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Gracie Mitchell of Roanoke and Emma Buster of Nathalie; and one brother-in-law, Lacy Jennings of Nathalie.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jennings will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow, December 18 at New Shiloh Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Her remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Public viewing will be held today from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Chapel of Jeffress Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Brookneal.
Mary E. Johnson
Mary E. Johnson, 85, of Virginia Beach died July 21, 2003 at Sentara Bayside Hospital.
Mrs. Johnson was born February 6, 1918, in Halifax County the daughter of Watkins Meadows and Eliza T. Conner Meadows, and was married to Paul E. Johnson. She was a member of Kings Grant Presbyterian church.
Survivors include her husband; one son and daughter-in-law, Louis W. and Darla R. Johnson; two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara A. and James A. Riviere, and Lynnette J. Gawrys; her grandchildren, Laurie A. Gurley, Karlyn L. Gawrys, all of Virginia Beach, Lewis B. Johnson of Lanexa and Jeremy C. Johnson of Alexandria; great-grandchildren, Ashley T. Themides and D. Conner Gurley; three sisters, Jane E. Propst of Baltimore, Md., Bessie E. Dawson of South Boston and Mildred I. Collie of Cape Cod, Mass; and one brother, Louis W. Meadows of Cape Cod. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard E. Meadows and Joe L. Meadows of South Boston.
A funeral was held July 25 at 1 p.m. at Kellum Funeral Home in Virginia Beach with the Rev. Selden Harris Jr. officiating. Entombment followed in the Chapel of Serenity.

Talluha Maxine Johnson, 72, of Alton died November 4, 2003 at Twin Oaks Nursing Home.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Halifax County on March 3, 1931, the daughter of Rev. Leon N. Johnson and Beatrice Wilson Johnson. She was a member of Denniston Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Leon Johnson Jr. of Alton and David Johnson of Virgilina; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Johnson and Annie Johnson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson will be held November 8 at 3 p.m. at Denniston Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Spencer Woods officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Glairs Wynona ‘Dot’ Jones
Glairs Wynona "Dot" Jones, 69, of Seneca, S.C., died October 30, 2003 at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Jones was born in Tallapoosa, Ga., on April 1, 1934, the daughter of the late John Sydney and Flora Dees Pope and was married to the late Jesse James Jones. She was a member of the Living Waters Church of God and was a cook at the Fat Boys Restaurant.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy Dianne Cansler of Seneca, S.C., one son, Drexel Mark Goddard of Lawrenceville, Ga., one brother, Carmon Pope of Rockmart, Ga., three grandsons, David James Smith, Raymond Mark Goddard and Ronnie Wayne Smith, three granddaughters, Winniona Dianne Tidmore, Crissy Ann Goddard and Lynn Mae Goddard, 13 great-grandchildren including, Amanda Nicole Smith, Kevin Mewborn-Smith, Amber Mewborn-Smith, Henry Tidmore and Johnny Tidmore and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services for Mrs. Jones were held yesterday, November 2, at the Clover Cemetery with the Rev. C.W. Lacks officiating.
Mary Coleman Jones
Mary Coleman Jones, 79, of 1094 Mason Chapel Road, Alton died December 5, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Jones was born in Halifax County on October 7, 1924, the daughter of Willie Bouldin Coleman and Nannie Jones Coleman and was married to Sylvester Jones. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors of Mrs. Jones include her husband; two daughters, Classy Macklin of Beacon, N.Y. and Queen Figgs of Plainfield, N.J.; four sons, Hubert Jones of Plainfield, Ernest Jones, Fred Jones and James Jones, all of Beacon; one sister, Alma Hamlett of Plainfield; two brothers, Willie Yancey of Durham, N.C. and Jessie Cunningham of Goldsboro, N.C.; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jones will be held tomorrow, December 13 at 11 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Harvey Bigelow officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Coy Wyatt Kaczor
Coy Wyatt Kaczor, six months old, died November 16, 2003 in Roanoke Community Hospital.
Infant Kaczor was born May 16, 2003, in Martinsville the son of W.L. 'John' Kaczor and Donna Martin Kaczor.
Other than his parents, survivors include his maternal grandparents, Dean and Dale Martin of Axton; paternal grandparents, Vic and Debbie Kaczor of Martinsville; maternal great-grandparents, Florence Hite and Berth Martin, both of South Boston; and his paternal great-grandmother, Lois Hilton of Searcy, Ark. He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Jackie Ackridge Kaczor; two great-grandfathers, Roy Lee Hite and Robert Martin.
Funeral services for infant Kaczor will be held tomorrow, November 20 at 2 p.m. at Rich Acres Christian Church in Martinsville. Ministers Tim Hunt and Phillip Murdock will officiate. Burial will follow in the Foster Family Cemetery in the Figsboro area.

Mrs. Kendrick was born in Virginia to the late George W. and Daisy Hutcherson Tilley. She was a member of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Loraine Kendrick of the home, and Faye Beck and husband, Marvin, of South Boston; four sons, Harvey Kendrick and wife, Margaret, of Ruffin, Raymond Kendrick and wife, Jeanette, of Graham, N.C., Harold Kendrick and wife, Lorraine, of Reidsville, N.C., and George Kendrick and wife, Mildred, of Greensboro, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia Ore of Madison, N.C.
Mrs. Kendrick was preceded in death by one son, Charlie W. Kendrick; five sisters, Daisy Southard, Bessie Johnson, Nealy Griffin, Nellie Stutz and Margaret Dykes; and four brothers, George Robert Tilley, David Edward Tilley, James Lee Tilley and William Tilley.

James Douglas King
A graveside service for James Douglas King was held Sunday at Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Russell Lee conducting the service.
Mr. King, 84, died Thursday at his South Boston residence.
A Halifax County native, he was born November 5, 1918, a son of George Benjamin King Sr. and Dorothy Bondurant King, and was married to Sue Guill King.
Mr. King was a co-owner of G.B. King & Son Inc., a business started by his father in 1914, until 1989.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of South Boston.
Mr. King is survived by his wife, Sue G. King of South Boston; one daughter, Pamela King Green of Locust Hill, Va.; one stepson, John W.J. Warren of Greenville, N.C.; one granddaughter, Kimberely Green Bratton of Apex, N.C.; and two great-grandsons.
Other survivors include two sisters, Dorothy King Meeler of South Boston and Edna King Stone of Blackstone.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Bessie A. King, and four brothers, George Benjamin Jr., Kenneth Cameron, Thomas E. and Nelson Burrus King.
