Benjamin Douglas Langford, 20, of 3090 McDonald Road, Scottsburg died December 28, 2003.
He was born February 10, 1983, in Halifax County the son of Thomas Langford Jr. and Gloria Gene Martin Langford.
Mr. Langford was a student at DCC, part-time employee of Food Lion, and was a member of Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents of Scottsburg; one sister, Tamra Lee Langford of Salisbury, Md.; two brothers, Stanley Thomas Langford of South Boston and Robert Gene Langford and wife, Tina, of Scottsburg; his fiance', Nicole Perkins of South Boston; three nephews, Caleb Thomas Langford of Salisbury, Hunter Gray Langford of South Boston and Robert Gene 'Bobby' Langford Jr. of Scottsburg; and one niece, Grace Langford of South Boston.
A funeral service was held December 30 at 2 p.m. at Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Jason Murray officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery at Scottsburg.

Regina Maria LaPrade
Regina Maria LaPrade of 1248 Rabat Road, Nathalie died July 2, 2003 at her home.
She is survived by her mother, Jerolean Rice LaPrade of the home; and her father, Robert LaPrade.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. July 6 at New Shiloh Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
James Franklin Lawson
James Franklin Lawson, 78, of 1032 Cherry Hill Church Road, South Boston, died September 9, 2003 at his home.
He was born February 27, 1925, in Halifax County to the late Aaron Lawson and the late Susie Faulkner Lawson. Mr. Lawson was a retired truck driver and had served in the United States Navy.
Survivors include four sisters, Annie M. Crawley, Mary Owen and Alie Tuck, all of South Boston, and Beulah Murphy of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Daniel Lawson of South Boston and Otis Lawson of Hampton.
Funeral services for Mr. Lawson will be held September 13 at 1 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Bolden officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Military Rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 29 Honor Guard.
Joseph Stebbins Lawson Jr.
Joseph Stebbins Lawson Jr., 71, of 1338 Irish Street, South Boston died December 28, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Mr. Lawson was born in South Boston on May 23, 1932, the son of Joseph Stebbins Lawson Sr. and Elizabeth Houston Lawson and was married to Kathryn Chaffin Lawson. He was a retired tobacconist with Universal Leaf Tobacco Company and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Kathryn Lawson Wills and husband, Dr. Stephen Lewis Wills, of Washington, D.C.; one son, Joseph Stebbins Lawson III and wife, Melissa Mauney Lawson, of High Point, N.C.; two sisters, Margaret Lawson Craighill of Lexington and Mary Lawson Hodges of Virginia Beach; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service for Mr. Lawson was held December 30 at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Russell Lee conducting the service.

Margaret Lawson
Margaret Lawson, 67, of 1110 Bethel Hill Road, Alton died July 1, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Lawson was born in Halifax County on June 5, 1936, the daughter of the late Joe Lawson and Lucy Garfield Lawson. She was a member of Denniston Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Keister Lawson of New York; three sisters, Mary L. Bolling of New York, N.Y., Janie Poole of Roxboro, N.C., and Rosa Lawson of Alton.
Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by one sister, Lillian Lawson; and three brothers, Eugene, Samuel and Paul Lawson.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, July 6 at 2 p.m. at Denniston Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. John Hubbard officiating.

Elizabeth Anne Lewis
Elizabeth Anne Lewis, 71, of Nathalie died Sunday, October 19, 2003, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Miss Lewis was born in Halifax County on March 18, 1932, the daughter of Venable Alexander Lewis and Elizabeth Hudson Lewis. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Millstone.
Miss Lewis was preceded in death by one brother, Ray “Billy” Hudson Lewis, and is survived by one brother, Francis O. Lewis and his wife Phylis of Nathalie.
Grave side services for Miss Lewis will be held Wednesday, October 22, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Millstone with the Rev. Bob Watts officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home from seven until 8:30 p.m.
Mary Lucille Tucker Lewis
Mary Lucille Tucker Lewis, 83, of 5211 Chatham Road, Halifax, died June 28, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Lewis was born in Wheeling, W.Va. on June 5, 1920, the daughter of the late Henry Archer Tucker and Mildred Hendricks Tucker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Meadville.
Survivors include three daughters, Jean Claiborne of Fredericksburg, Ann Ferrell of Riverdale, Ga. and Mildred Yvonne Harper of Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Johnnie B. Tucker of Yonkers, N.Y. and Harold Tucker of Washington, D.C.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lewis will be held tomorrow, July 5 at 1 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie N. Yancey officiating. Burial will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery in Meadville.

Rev. Herbert Lipscomb
The Rev. Herbert Lipscomb, former resident of Halifax County, died October 16, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton, Pa. He was the husband of Rosa L. Singleton Lipscomb.
Rev. Lipscomb was the son of the late Morris and Rachael Lipscomb.
In addition to his wife, survivors include seven children, Herbert Jr., Zachary, Jacqueline, Tammy, Silas, Kirk and Mya Lipscomb; three sisters, Jean, Thelma and Catherine of N.J. three brothers, Henry of La., Lawrence of Ohio and Morris of Va.
Eugene Fay Logan
Eugene Fay Logan, 74, of 2049 Union Church Road, Halifax died October 9, 2003 at his home.
Mr. Logan was born in Edmon, Pa. on August 15, 1926, the son of Harold S. Logan and Ruby Adams Logan and was married to Marjorie T. Logan.
He was retired after 20 years Distinguished Service with the U.S. Air Force as a Tech Sgt., served with the First Radio Relay in Germany, Sac-HQ in Omaha, the Pentagon, Personnel Center in Randolph, Texas, Tactical Air Command in Sumter, S.C., and White House Communications in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Logan was a member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV and Air Force Sergeant's Association.
His survivors include his wife; one daughter, Linda Hancock of Halifax; one son, Larry Logan of Fayetteville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, William H. Logan and his wife, Doris, of Coolidge, Ariz.
Graveside services for Mr. Logan will be held October 12 at 2 p.m. at Halifax Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Issac Mooneyham officiating.

Edwin Franklin ‘Sonny’ Long Jr.
Edwin Franklin 'Sonny' Long Jr., 56, of 1079 Swain Road, Halifax, died October 25, 2003 at Veterans Medical Center, Durham, N.C.
Mr. Long was born in Halifax County on May 7, 1947, the son of Edwin Franklin Long Sr. and Ella Robertson Long and was married to Rebecca Stephens Long. He was a member of Mountain Road Baptist Church and the Disabled Veterans of America.
Survivors include one son, Edwin Franklin Long III of Halifax; one daughter, Lisa Long Whitt of Halifax; one stepson, Jeffrey K. Daniel of Halifax; one grandson, Ryan Thomas Whitt of Halifax; his mother of South Boston; and one sister, Linda Long Link of Alton.
Graveside services for Mr. Long will be held today, October 29 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Rites with the Revs. Andy Patterson and Richard Saunders officiating.
Hattie Lowery Long
Hattie Lowery Long, 89, of Forest, died Friday, January 2, 2003, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
She was born in Alton in May 15, 1914, the daughter of the late Walter Green Lowery and the late Maggie Lee Ford Lowery and was the widow of the late Melvin Henry Long.
Mrs. Long was a member of Harmony Methodist Church of Alton and formerly worked for K-Mart in it's grocery store before her retirement.
She is survived by two sons, Howard G. Long of Forest and M.B. "Bill" Long of Lynchburg, one daughter, Gladys Long Faulconer and husband Howard Faulconer, Jr. of Forest, one sister, Rebecca Claiborne of Alton, one brother, George Lowery and wife Jeanita of Chester, two grandchildren, Zane P. Finley of Forest and Howard L. Faulconer, III and wife Doris Teresa of Cary, N.C. one great-grandson, Zachary M. Coffey of Forest, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Long was preceded in death by five brothers, Richard, Clarence and Bryant Lowery, all of South Boston, and Joe and John Lowery of Petersburg, and four sisters, Willie Claiborne and Ella Morris of Alton, Laura Wood and Mary Kincaid of Oxford, N.C.
Funeral services will be held today, January 5, at 3 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Dr. Maurice T. McCarthy of Beulah Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Miriam Wilkins Long
Miriam Wilkins Long, 81, of Alton died November 3, 2003 in Keysville.
She was born in Halifax County on May 5, 1922, the daughter of Allie Thomas Wilkins and Virgie Weatherford Wilkins and was married to the late Ernest Bedford Long. Mrs. Long was a member of Alton Baptist Church.
Services will be held tomorrow, November 6 at 2 p.m. at Alton Baptist Church with the Revs. Ken Williams and Vance Midgett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Long is survived by one daughter, Linda L. Guerrero and her husband, Candelario of Keysville; one sister, Frances W. Nunnally of Richmond; one sister-in-law, Anne B. Wilkins of Alton; one granddaughter, Michele S. Barksdale and her husband, David of South Boston; one grandson, Eddie Seamster and his wife, Billie of Deltaville; one great-grandson, Jonathan Barksdale of South Boston; one great-granddaughter, Brandi Barksdale of South Boston; and two special friends, Mary W. Smith of South Boston and Janice Kramer of Keysville.

Florence Sydnor Lovelace
Florence Sydnor Lovelace, 89, of 1016 Ballou Trail, Halifax, died July 7, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Lovelace was born in Campbell County on March 30, 1914, the daughter of the late Willie Sydnor and the late Fannie Miller Sydnor and was married to Tom A. Lovelace. She was a member of Banister Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Fannie L. Venable of Arlington, Sarah Williams of Irvington, N.J. and Mary Clipper of Frederick Md.; one son, Frank Lovelace of Halifax; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Clarissa Williams of Arlington, Hazel Saxon and Hester Jones, both of Washington, D.C. and Learlean Hemphill of Temple Hill, Md.; one brother, Floyd W. Sydnor of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one Goddaughter, Shirley Brown of Irvington. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Bettie Lovelace; one son, James Lovelace; and one stepson, Horace Lovelace.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lovelace will be held today, July 9, at 11 a.m. at Banister Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. William Carr officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
George Commelious ‘G.C.’ Lowery
George Commelious "G.C." Lowery, 74, of Virgilina, died Sunday, January 4, 2003, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
He was born in Halifax County on July 18, 1929 the son of the late Jessie Henry Lowery and the late Hallie Rebecca Lowery and was married to Marguerite S. Lowery.
Mr. Lowery was a member of Florence Avenue Baptist Church and was the retired owner operator of M&G Supplies.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Michael Allen Lowery of Norfolk, one sister, Marie Lowery Dalton of Oxford, N.C., and four brothers, Henry Ford Lowery of South Boston, Edward Jones Lowery of Newport News, Franklin Wilson "Bill" Lowery of Hampton and Lester Leroy "Roy" Lowery, Sr. of Virgilinia.
Mr. Lowery was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Lowery Swain and Rebecca Lowery Currin, and two brothers, James Howard Lowery and John D. Lowery.
Funeral services will be held at Florence Avenue Baptist Church on Tuesday, January 6, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Sean McKenzie officiating.
Burial will take place at Virgilinia Cemetery.

Mary Williams MacDonald
Graveside services for Mrs. Mary Williams MacDonald will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Oakland Cemetery in Scottsburg.
The Rev. Rudolph Jacobs will conduct the service.
Mrs. MacDonald, 78, died Saturday at Halifax Regional Hospital.
She was born in Norfolk on March 7, 1925, a daughter of Roland Williams and Leta Williams.
She was married to Col. Robert James MacDonald Sr.
She was a member of the St. Johns Episcopal Church.
Mrs. MacDonald is survived by two sons, John Carnes and wife Terri of Corvallis and Robert James MacDonald and wife Rebecca of Scottsburg. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Kristin and Britney Carnes of Corvallis and Robert James MacDonald III and Marissa MacDonald of Scottsburg.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Monday from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., and at other times at her home, 5033 Wolf Trap Road, Scottsburg.

Pauline ‘Polly’ Orr Martin
Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline "Polly" Orr Martin, of Mt. Laurel Road in Clover, were held yesterday at the Clover United methodist Church.
The Revs. Bonnie Pizzeck and Tom Walker officiated.
Burial followed in the Clover Cemetery.
Mrs. Martin died Friday, July 18, 2003, at the Halifax Regional Hospital.
She was 84.
Mrs. Martin was born in Lee County, Virginia on August 24, 1918, to the late Morgan Simpson Orr and the late Emma Cecil Orr. She was a retired teacher in the Halifax County School system, was a member of Clover United Methodist Church, the UMW and the Clover Volunteer Fire Department Auxilliary.
She was the former owner of the Gregory and Martin Supermarket and the Martin and Nichols Funeral Home in Clover.
Mrs. Martin is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Carter Martin of Lynchburg, one son, E.S. "Bert" Martin III and his wife Kathy, of Clover, one granddaughter, Emily Anne Martin of Clover, and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Orr and Lucille Orr and two brothers, Robert Cecil Orr and Clyde W. Orr.
