Betty Williams
Betty Williams, 62, died August 19, 2003 at the Hospice Clinic in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was born December 4, 1940.
Her survivors include her husband: Monroe E. Williams of Pinacle, N.C.;
daughter: Susan and Ricky Lawson of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; brother: Bobby L. and Rachel Thomas of Ararat, N.C.; sister: Dorothy and R.C. Moss of East Bend, N.C.; two step-daughters: Jennifer Clay of Scottsburg and Cynthia Lindsay of Lynchburg; two step-sons: Christopher E. Williams of Madison, N.C. and Jeffrey Williams of Scottsburg and 12 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held today, August 22, at 11 a.m. at the Cox-Needham Funeral Home, Pilot Mountain.
Katie Traynham Williams
Katie Traynham Williams, 88, of Clinton, Md., recently passed away.
Mrs. Williams was born in Halifax County on February 5, 1915, the daughter of the late Ernest and Margaret Crews Medley. She was a member of Banister Hill CME Church.
Her survivors include two daughters: Vella Mae Traynham-Davis of Clinton and Cleo Ford of Albany, N.Y.; son: James L. Medley of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother: Ernest Medley Jr. of South Boston; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; five step-children and several step-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held yesterday, Oct. 16, 2003 at Banister Hill CME Church with the Rev. William Yancey officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Robert Lee Williams
Robert Lee Williams, 82, of 7145 Dryburg Road, Scottsburg died January 14, 2003 at his home.
Mr. Williams was born in Halifax County on January 31, 1921, the son of the late Virginia Snead Williams and James Thomas Williams, and was married to Frances Buchanan Williams.
He was a member of Fork Baptist Church, was a former member of the American Legion Post 8, and served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Williams was a retired farmer and employee of J.P.S.
Funeral services will be held today, January 16 at 2 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jason Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Cemetery.
Survivors of Mr. Williams include one son, Tommy Williams and wife, Linda, of Scottsburg; one daughter, Carolyn W. Wilmoth and husband, Kenneth, of Clover; two sisters, Blanche Canada of South Boston and Sally Austin of Scottsburg; two brothers, Frank Williams of Scottsburg and Jim Williams of South Boston; three granddaughters, Darlene and Jeanie Williams and Teresa Wilmoth Seamster; one grandson Ken Wilmoth; two great-grandchildren, Kelly and Heather Seamster; and a special friend, Tristan James 'T.J. Wade, of Charlotte Courthouse. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Ann Williams; and one son, Robert Page Williams.

Wylie Bruce Williams
Wylie Bruce Williams, 49, of 2011 Alex Lane, Nathalie died October 23, 2003 at his home.
Mr. Williams was born in Lynchburg on May 25, 1954, the son of Louise Mason williams of Nathalie and the late Wylie N. Williams. He was a member of Staunton River Baptist Church and was a carpenter.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, Michael Bruce Williams and wife, Tracey, of Nathalie; one daughter, Stacy Williams and fiance', Steven Walker, of Nathalie; one sister, Kay W. Crews of Nathalie; three grandchildren, Ericka Walker, Dillion Williams, and Si'ena Garrett; one step-grandchild, Zack Harris; three special great nieces, Alex Crews, Casey Crews, MaKenzie Crews; and a special friend, Marilyn. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Joe Crews.
A funeral service for Mr. Williams will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow, October 25 at Staunton River Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry Stanley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday Henderson Funeral Home and at the home of his mother and sister, 3051 Acorn Road, Nathalie.
Florence Elizabeth Williamson
Florence Elizabeth Williamson, 86, of 2955 Calvary Road, Alton died November 24, 2003 at Berry Hill Nursing Home.
Ms. Williamson was born in Halifax County on March 5, 1917, the daughter of William James Williamson and Ona Lee Earp Williamson. She was a retired Government-U.S. Foreign Service officer.
Graveside services will be held today, November 26 at 2 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Bob Huffman and David LeFon officiating.
Survivors of Ms. Williamson include one brother, Ashley S. Williamson of South Boston; two sisters, Myrtle A. Vernon of Alton and Theodora W. King of Raleigh, N.C. She was preceded in death by one brother, James Monroe Williamson; and three sisters, Lucy S. Williamson, Cora Lee Williamson and Louise Williamson.

Henry Webster Willie
Henry Webster Willie, 87, of Washington, D.C. died November 4, 2003 in Tacoma Park, Md.
Mr. Willie was born on October 29, 1916, the son of Henry Willie and Estella Bryant Willie and was married to Edith Garrett Willie. He was a member of Metropolitan Wesley AME Zion Church in Washington.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Oveta Willie; and one son, Henry Webster Willie Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Willie will be held November 8 at 1 p.m. at St. Matthew Baptist Church in Clover with the Rev. Whitfield Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Garrett family residence in Clover.
Desiree Kaye Propst Satterfield Willis
Desiree Kaye Propst Satterfield Willis, 48, of Sanford, N.C. died January 13, 2003.
Born in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Filmore Dodd and Dora Lee Conner Propst of South Boston.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Willis of Sanford; her father; stepmother, Betty Mann Propst; and one brother, Phil Propst, all of South Boston; three daughters, Dora Satterfield Briones and Sandy Satterfield Smith, both of Sanford, and Frankie Satterfield of Halifax; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Willis will be held today, January 16 at 2 p.m. at Bridges Cameron Funeral Home in Sanford.
Cecelia Watts Wilmoth
Graveside services for Mrs. Cecelia Watts Wilmoth will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at the Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Jason Murray will officiate.
Mrs. Wilmoth died Sunday, July 13, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
She was 86.
Mrs. Wilmoth was born in Halifax County on May 10, 1917 to the late James Richard Watts and the late Bertha Vaughan Watts.
Marriage to the late Freddie W. Wilmoth, Mrs. Wilmoth was a homemaker and a member of the Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, LaVerne W. Gravitt of South Boston and Edith W. Brockwell and husband Cliff of Lawrenceville, Virginia, one son, Freddie W. Wilmoth Jr. of Scottsburg, one sister, Bertha Davis of Richmond, one brother, Harvey Watts of South Boston, eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Hodges ‘Hardin’ Wilmouth
Hodges "Hardin" Wilmouth, 82, of South Boston, died Friday, October 31, 2003, at The Woodview.
Mr. Wilmouth was born in Halifax County on February 11, 1921, the son of the late Arthur Wilmouth and Daisy King Wilmouth.
He was preceded in death by nine brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Wilmouth is survived by one brother, Calvin W. Wilmouth of Alton, two special nieces, Kitty Wilmouth of Alton and Edna S. Smith of Clover and other nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Mr. Wilmouth were held yesterday, November 2, at the Clover Cemetery with Brother Douglas Stacy officiating.

Mary Cliborne Wilmouth
Graveside services for Mrs. Mary Cliborne Wilmouth will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Halifax Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Wilmouth, of the J.D. Hagood Highway in Scottsburg, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at the Lynchburg General Hospital.
She was 92.
Mrs. Wilmouth was born in Halifax County on April 1, 1911 to the late Willie Cliborne and Annie Brown Cliborn.
She was a member of the Clover United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Wilmouth is susvived by one daughter, Christine W. Wilkerson and husband Raleigh of Scottsburg, one grandson, Mark R. Wilkerson and wife Mickey of South Boston, one granddaughter, Debra W. Cassell and husband Stan of Hampton, one sister, Betty Lou Snead of Halifax, one brother, David Cliborne of New Jersey, two great-granddaughters, Amanda Nichols and Heather Blanks, two great-grandsons, Justin Wilkerson and Brian Seigla and one great-great-granddaughter, Hailey Blanks.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gertrude Boyer and Truman Womack, and two brothers, Charles Cliborne and Clayton Cliborne.
John Wesley Wilson
John Wesley Wilson, 77, of 202 Terry Road, Brookneal, died August 19, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Mr. Wilson was born in Halifax County on January 9, 1926, son of the late Alexander C. and Ella Burton Wilson. He was a member of the Brookneal Baptist Church, a Navy veteran of WWII, and founder/former owner of Wilson Electric, Brookneal.
His survivors include his wife: Naomi (Bobby) Scates Wilson; two sons: Johnny A. and Norma Wilson and Timothy W. and Kim Wilson of Brookneal; six grandchildren: Danny Wilson, Laura Wilson, Katherine Wilson and Andrea Wilson of Brookneal and Kevin Wilson and Patrick Wilson of Amherst, and a sister: Hilda Stepp of Newport News. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 23 at 11 a.m. at Brookneal Baptist Church with the Rev. Patrick Collins officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be held at Wickliffe Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight, August 22, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home and at the residence.
Lawrence Franklin Wilson
Lawrence Franklin Wilson, 67, of 1046 Belt Blvd., South Boston died July 27, 2003 at Berry Hill Nursing Home.
Mr. Wilson was born in Brunswick County on July 18, 1936, the son of Melvin Marion Wilson and Edith Betterton Wilson and was married to Helen Martin Wilson. He attended Revelation Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Harold Dennis Wilson and Lawrence Randolph Wilson, both of South Boston; one sister, Virginia Christine W. Duffer of South Boston; three grandchildren, H.D., Krystle and Tiffany Wilson, all of South Boston.
Funeral services for Mr. Wilson will be today, July 30 at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs officiating. Burial will take place in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
Michael Allen Wilson
Michael Allen Wilson Sr., 50, of 1205 East Hyco Road, South Boston died August 12, 2003 at Grand Strand Regional Medical center, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Mr. Wilson was born in Halifax County on February 25, 1953, the son of Gertrude W. Wilson and the late Floyd W. Wilson, and was married to Marilyn Nelson Wilson. He was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church, and employed as Office & Accounting assistant at Southern States Coop Petroleum.
Services will be held today, August 15 at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Eure officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife; his mother ; two sons, Michael Allen Wilson Jr. and Matthew Ryan Wilson, all of South Boston; two sisters, Linda W. Crews of Richmond and Deborah Wilson of Atlanta, Ga. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Perry Wilson.

Mary Stewart Winstead
Private family services for Mrs. Mary Stewart Winstead will be held at the Oak Ridge Cemetery on Friday, August 22, 2003, at 1 p.m.
Mrs. Winstead, of Columbia, Md., formerly of South Boston, died Wednesday, August 1, 2003.
She was 82.
Mrs. Winstead was born on September 28, 1920, to the late Hugh Stewart and the late Lottie Bacon Stewart.
She was the mother of four children, Hugh, Leitner, Bruce and Bob Winstead, and was the grandmother of Hunter, Louise, Ashley and Brittany Winstead and Amanda Johnson.
Mrs. Winstead is also survived by other dear relatives and friends.
Rosalie Steube Woltz
Rosalie Steube Woltz, 75, of 11197 Bill Tuck Highway, Buffalo Junction, died September 19, 2003 at her home.
Mrs. Woltz was born in Halifax County on September 5, 1928, the daughter of Edward Steube and Myrtle Talbott Steube and was married to Thomas Howerton Woltz. She was a member of Aarons Creek Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star #145 and was a former leader of the Aarons Creek 4-H Club.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Steube Woltz of Buffalo Junction and Edward Thomas Woltz and wife, Joni, of Virgilina; two grandchildren, Abby Paige Woltz and Ethan Owen Woltz, both of Virgilina; and one sister, Frances Steube Elliott of Halifax.
Funeral services for Mrs. Woltz were held September 21 at 2 p.m. at Aarons Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill McEntire officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Arthur Lee Wood
Arthur Lee Wood, 58, of 1025 Mallard Lane, South Boston died October 6, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mr. Wood was born in Halifax County on July 21, 1945, the son of the late Isaac Wood and Mary Irby Wood.
Survivors include one daughter, Tracey L. Wood of Forestville, Md.; one grandson, Terrell Griffin; four brothers, John Robert Wood, Claude Thomas Wood, Isaac Wood Jr. and Billy Truman Wood, all of South Boston; three sisters-in-law, Susie Wood, Dorothy Wood and Lillian Wood. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by a sister, Lonnie R. Ragsdale.
Funeral services will be held today, October 8 at noon at the Chapel of Jeffress Funeral Home with Elder William Howerton officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove CME Church Cemetery.

Nannie Mae Wooldridge
Nannie Mae Wooldridge, 48, of South Boston, died Thursday, October 30, 2003, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
She was born on October 7, 1955, daughter of Aubrey Jett Woolridge, Jr. and Virginia Wooldridge, both of South Boston. She was a homemaker.
Ms.Wooldridge is survived by both parents, one son, Kenny R. Wooldrige of South Boston, one sister, Linda W. Poteat and her husband Gerald W. Poteat of Scottsburg, two brothers Aubrey E. Wooldridge of South Boston, and Claude Dudley Wooldridge of Nathalie, three nephews and numerous aunts and uncles.
Graveside services for Mrs. Wooldridge will be held today, November, 3, at 2 p.m. at the Beulah U.M.C. Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Saunders officiating.
