Bouldin Lacy Caldwell
Bouldin Lacy Caldwell, 76, of Charlotte, N.C., died August 10, 2004, at Carolinas Medical Center.
Born July 28, 1928, in Halifax, he was the son of the late Hugh Roberts Caldwell and Estelle Lacy Caldwell.
Mr. Caldwell served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired from Delta Airlines in 1990 after 29 years of service. Following his retirement, he obtained his pilot’s license. Mr. Caldwell was a member of the Carolina Wing of the Confederate Air Force, Steele Creek Masonic Lodge
#737 AF & AM, and the American Legion.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, August 13, at McEwen Charlotte Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Buddy Pigg officiating. Interment will follow at Forest
Lawn West Cemetery.
Survivors of Mr. Caldwell include his wife, Joan Thompson Caldwell; one son Hugh Caldwell; three daughters, Teri Tillett of Lake Wateree, S.C., Karen Williamson and her husband, Ronnie, of Charlotte, and Polly Plemmons and her husband, Brian, of Gastonia, N.C.; two granddaughters, Katelyn 'Katie' Plemmons and Allee Plemmons.

Essie Maude Crews Carter
Funeral services for Mrs. Essie Maude Crews Carter will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2004, at 11 a.m., with services at the Banister Hill Baptist Church.
The Rev. William Carr will officiate.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Carter, of Cowford Road in Halifax, died August 6, 2004, at the Berry Hill Nursing Home.
She was 88.
Mrs. Carter was born in Halifax County on June 3, 1916, the daughter of the late Clem Crews and Martha Ann Davis Crews.
She was married to the late Otis James Carter Sr., and was a member of the Banister Hill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Carter is survived by two daughters, Linda Carter of Charlotte, N.C., and Marian Stamps of Danville; two sons, Otis J. Carter Jr., of Halifax, and Lawrence Crews Carter of Lincolnton, N.C.; four sisters, Lucy Freeman of Nathalie, Betty Hamlett of Brookneal, Nannie Certer of Albany, N.Y., and Beatrice Williams of Bronx, N.Y.; one brother, DeRoy Crews of Albany, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; two daughters-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving friends at the residence.
Floyd Woody Cole
Floyd Woody Cole, 89, of Nelson, husband of Mary Sue Slaughter Cole, died August 5, 2004 in South Boston.
He was born in Halifax County and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. A retired mechanic, Mr. Cole operated a gun business and clock repair service.
Funeral services for Mr. Cole were held August 7 at 11 a.m. at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home in Clarksville with the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs officiating. Burial followed in the Newton family cemetery.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Cole is survived by a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Donne and Ray Matthews of Bullock, N.C.; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Buck and Darlene Slaughter of Nelson.
Ramona Mitchell Dickerson
Funeral services for Mrs. Ramona Mitchell Dickerson will be held today at 1 p.m., with services at the Crawford House Chapel in Halifax.
The Rev. Whitfield Scott will officiate.
Burial will follow at the St. Matthew Baptist Church Cemetery in Clover.
Mrs. Dickerson, of North Portland Avenue in Brooklyn, N.Y., and formerly of Clover, died Wednesday in Brooklyn, N.Y.
She was 65.
Mrs. Dickerson was born in Clover on September 27, 1928, the daughter of the late Minnie Mitchell and Ellis Lee Morales.
She was married to the late Elijah Beverly Dickerson Sr., and was a member of the St. Matthew Baptist Church in Clover.
Mrs. Dickerson is survived by four daughters, Manjala Dolores Govender of San Francisco, Ca., Dorothy Boradwater of Brooklyn, N.Y., Debra Nelson of Queens, N.Y. and Remona Dickerson of Manhattan, N.Y.; two sons, Melvin S. Dickerson and Elijah Beverly Dickerson Jr., both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother, James Henry Lacks of Clover, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two children, John and Diane Dickerson, and one sister, Margaret M. Coleman.
Mary Anna Coleman Dixon
Mary Anna Coleman Dixon, 83, of 5180 Leda Road, Nathalie died August 26, 2004 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Dixon was born in Halifax County to the late John Edward Coleman and Rosa Lovelace Coleman and was married to Richard Haywood Dixon. She was a member of Elkhorn Baptist Church.
Survivors include six daughters, Mattie Lee of South Boston, Marie Lawson of Catonsville, Md., Luester Hazel of Rocky Mount, N.C., Genora Dixon of Mitchellville, Md., Joanna Dance and Onedia Dance, both of Burlington, N.J.; five sons, Richard Junious Dixon of Ft. Washington, Md., Juan Dixon of the home, Tonnie Dixon of Accokeek, Md., Matthew Kirk Dixon and Darryl Dixon, both of Mitchellville; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mabel Stephens of Blairs, Irene Vaughan of Baltimore, Md., Louise Tucker of Halifax and Elizabeth Wilson of Nathalie; two brothers, Thomas Coleman of Halifax and James Edward Coleman of Washington, D.C.; her stepmother, Estelle Brewer Coleman of Alton. Mrs. Dixon was preceded in death by one brother, Bernard Coleman.
Funeral services were held August 28 at 2 p.m. at County Line Baptist Church in Nathalie with Dr. C. Lewis Motley officiating. Burial followed in the Dixon Family Cemetery.
Mildred Courtland Davis Dixon
Funeral services for Mildred Courtland Davis Dixon will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Tim Cannon officiating.
Burial will follow at the Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Monday from 7:30-9:00 p.m. and other times at her home, 1309 Friend Avenue, South Boston.
Mildred Courtland Davis Dixon died Thursday at her residence.
She was 77.
She was born May 14, 1927 in Halifax County. She was the daughter of the late Roy Benjamin Davis and the late Blanche Tune Davis and was married to the late Dr. Cecil Burton Dixon.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was a choir member, Sunday school teacher, WMU director, and a former Deacon. She was also a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, the Polly Wilkerson Circle and a member of the Berryman Green Chapter of the DAR.
Mildred Courtland Davis Dixon was a graduate of Longwood University and a former English teacher.
She was also a substitute teacher and worked with homebound students.
She is survived by: a daughter, Donna Dixon-Fisher and her husband, Ed Fisher, of Bluefield, W.Va.; three sons, Stephen Davis Dixon and his wife, Janet Fisher Dixon, of Winston-Salem; Dr. Larry Burton Dixon of Chicago and David Kent Dixon of Danville; a sister, Elsie Davis Todd and her husband, Andrew Todd, of Chatham; five grandchildren, Scott Carter Dixon and Zachary Kent Dixon, both of Winston- Salem, Todd Courtland Dixon of Greensboro, Claire Cecille Fisher and Brian Edward Fisher, both of Bluefield, W.Va.; a great-grandchild, Aidan Scott Dixon of Winston-Salem; and two step-grandchildren, Katie Elizabeth Nelson and John Byron Nelson IV of Winston-Salem.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Dr. Cecil B. Dixon, a daughter, Janet Courtland Dixon, and by her brother, Roy B. Davis, Jr.

Ray B. Dodge Jr.
Ray B. Dodge Jr., 86, of Asheville, N.C. died November 8, 2004, at Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center. The son of the late Ray B. and Della May Howard Dodge, he was born in Essex County, Mass. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, receiving a Bronze Star. Mr. Dodge was a corporate officer with Burlington Industries for 28 years, and retired from the Charles D. Owen Manufacturing Co.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Louise Peggy Dodge, of Asheville; two sons, David Dodge and his wife, Melody, of Candler, N.C. and Rev. Richard Dodge and his wife, Joy, of Hermitage, Tenn.; a daughter, Carol D. Romines and her husband, Gary, of New Market, Tenn.; six grandchildren: Bryan Dodge and his wife, Hayden, Jeffrey Dodge, Jocelyn Romines, Stephen Romines and his wife, Jamie, Stephanie Dodge and Cody Dodge and one great-grandchild, Matt Romines.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 11, at Beaverdam Baptist Church with the Rev. James Lamb, Dr. Earl Moseley, Rev. Richard Dodge, and Rev. Stanley Willet officiating. Interment followed at Lewis Memorial Park Cemetery.

Bruce Neal Drake
Bruce Neal Drake, age 51, of Winston-Salem, N.C. passed away August 2, 2004, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Mr. Drake was born March 14, 1953 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, the son of Donald Eugene and Monteese Walker Drake. He was a graduate of Halifax County Senior High School class of 1971 and of Virginia Tech in 1977. He was an employee of Barker Claim Service as a property claims adjuster, also serving 26years at Crawford & Co. Insurance.
Mr. Drake was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church where he served on the cemetery committee. He was also active and a board member in Scout Troop 944.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Taylor Drake, of the home; a son and daughter; Steven Neal and Lauren Anne Drake; two step daughters; Shannon Melissa and Megan Elizabeth Taylor; a brother, Rodney Drake and wife, Barbara; a sister; Karen Drake Bradley and husband, Richard; a niece; Kathryn Bradley, two nephews; David Drake and Andrew Bradley. Mr. Drake was preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. today, August 6, at Main Street United Methodist Church by Dr. Al Ward. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Joseph Drew Jr., 42, of Edison, N.J. died in New Jersey.
Born in Halifax County on July 1, 1962, he was the son of Joseph Drew Sr. and Jeraline Gallimore Drew, and was a member of Mt. Hope Baptist Church in Metuchen, N.J.
Funeral services for Mr. Drew will be held tomorrow, September 16, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church in Red Oak with the Rev. Harry Lee Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Jessica Drew of New Jersey; one son, Russell Drew of Dover, N.J.; his parents of Scottsburg; two sisters, Sylvia Lockette of Lake Hopatcong, N.J. and Cynthia Drew of Marbleton, Ga.; and one brother, Johnny Drew of Dover.

Doris Turner Borders Dudley, 96, died at The Woodview on September 22, 2004.
Mrs. Dudley was born on June 26, 1908, in Franklin County.

He was a retired employee of Craddock & Terry, was a farmer and was a member of the Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church.

Helen S. Duggan, 79, of Terre Haute, IN., died Friday, August 20, 2004, at her residence.
Helen S. Duggan was born December 20, 1924, in South Boston, the daughter of William David Smith Sr. and Ella Chandler Smith, and was married to the late U.S. Army Lt. Col. (ret.) Samuel F. Duggan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died on February 26, 1989.
Helen S. Duggan is survived by two sons, W. Michael Duggan and spouse Denise L. Duggan of Terre Haute; Donald E. Duggan and spouse Erica of Indianapolis, IN.; one brother, William David Smith Jr. and spouse Harriette of South Boston; one sister, Ruby Hawthorne of South Boston; five grandchildren, Christine Shaffer and spouse Steve of Avon, IN.; Samuel Duggan and his companion Kristen Freeman of Evansville, IN.; Erin, Carter and Becca Duggan, all of Indianapolis, IN.; two great grandchildren, Logan Mack Shaffer of Avon, IN.; and Andrew Phillip Nelson Duggan of Evansville, IN.
Mrs. Duggan attended Farmville State Teacher's College and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Terre Haute. She was a homemaker.
Funeral services for Helen S. Duggan will be Tuesday, August 31, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 4701 Poplar St., Terrre Haute, IN., with the Rev. Bernie Jackson officiating.
Visitation will be at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th St., Terre Haute, IN., on Monday, August 30, from 4 to 9 p.m., and at the church from 9 a.m. until the service on Tuesday.
