James William Blakey
James William Blakey, 78, of 11072 Chatham Road, Vernon Hill, died September 29, 2004 at his home.
Mr. Blakey was born June 8, 1926, in Sumter, S.C., the son of the late James Wright and Hattie C. Blakey, and was married to Willie Diane Coleman Blakey. He was a member of County Line Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Priscilla High of Atlanta, Ga. and Sharon Blakey of White Plains, N.Y.; one brother, Charles Blakey of White Plains; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Blakey was preceded in death by a son, Herbert Blakey; and a brother, Richard Wright.
Funeral services will be held October 3, at 3 p.m. at County Line Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Otis R. Dillard officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the home.
Ethel Wilson Sallee
Ethel Wilson Sallee of Naruna died September 25, 2004 in Lynchburg.
Survivors include three stepchildren, Clyde West and wife, Roberta of Calif., Clara Wilson of Chester, Pa. and James H. West of N.J.; four sisters and brothers, Lewis Wilson and wife, Dorothy, of Nathalie, Mildred Fleming and husband, Robert, of Chester, Roy D. Wilson and wife, Catherine, of Coatesville, Pa. and Clyde Wilson and wife, Gloria, of Nathalie; a daughter-in-law, Rosa West; host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sallee were held September 30 at 11 a.m. at the Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church in Nathalie with burial in the church cemetery.
Evelyn A. Salley
Evelyn A. Salley, 84, of Chesapeake, formerly of Halifax County, died September 26, 2004 at her home.
Born in Blacksburg on July 14, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Nettie Howard Allen. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Oliver A. Stone; five sisters, Ocie A. Love, Reba A. Brown, Virginia A. Nolen, Hazel A. Akers and Elzie A. Taylor; and one brother, Robert F. Allen.
Mrs. Salley was currently a member of Great Bridge Baptist Church, and formerly a member of Danville and Halifax churches.
Survivors include her husband, John H. Salley; one son, John H. Salley Jr. of Chesapeake; one daughter, Ann S. Young and her husband, Steve, of Natural bridge; four grandchildren, John Salley III, David Salley, Ashley Young and Jennifer Young; and one great-grandchild, Logan V. Camden.
A funeral service for Mrs. Salley was held at 2 p.m. September 30 at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Great Bridge Chapel in Chesapeake.
The Rev. Charles L. Moseley officiated. Burial was private in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.

Joseph Luther Blue
Graveside services for Joseph Luther Blue will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the North Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
Joseph Blue was the infant son of Matthew and Maria Moore Blue.
He died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Joseph Blue is survived by: his parents, Matthew and Maria Moore Blue of South Boston; a half brother, Dylan Thomas Whitt of South Boston; his maternal grandmother, Violet Moore of South Boston; his paternal grandparents, Robert Luther Blue Jr. and Linda Pratt Blue of Buffalo Junction.
Hugh Willis Bramlitt
Funeral services for Mr. Hugh Willis Bramlitt of Valley Drive, South Boston, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Saunders officiating.
Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens with military rites.
Mr. Bramlitt, 90, died Sunday, October 3, 2004, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
He was born December 21, 1913, in Blundale, Ga., a son of the late James Franklin Bramlitt and the late Mamie Jane Cullers Bramlitt and was married to Ruby Lee Bishop Bramlitt.
Mr. Bramlitt was a member of the Blundale Baptist Church, Blundale, Ga., and attended Centerville Baptist Church.
He was a retired Chief Warrant Officer, (CW2) U.S. Army, and also retired from the Civil Service.
Mr. Bramlitt is survived by his wife, Ruby Lee Bishop Bramlitt of South Boston, and two sons, Willis C. Bramlitt and wife Chris of Novi, Michigan, and Carl Wayne Bramlitt and wife Anne of South Boston, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home, 414 Valley Drive.
George Allen Cardwell
Mr. George Allen Cardwell died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004 at his residence in Chesapeake.
He was 84.
Mr. Cardwell was born on July 1, 1920, in Durham, N.C. He was the son of the late Albert C. Cardwell and the late Addie Allen Cardwell. He was married to the late Katie Marie Noblin Cardwell.
Mr. Cardwell was a retired employee of Clover Yarns, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by: a son, Ronald Cardwell of Roxboro, N.C.; four daughters, Linda Powell of South Boston, Nancy Edmunds and Phyllis Adkins, both of Richmond, Brenda Stephens of Chesapeake; two brothers, Luther Cardwell of Virginia Beach, and Bill Cardwell of Greensboro, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cardwell was preceded in death by a grandson, Ronald Allen Cardwell Jr.
A private service will be held for Mr. Cardwell with Rev. H.V. Conner officiating.

Calvin Lee Heath
Funeral services for Mr. Calvin Lee Heath will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2004, with services at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel.
The Rev. Doug Spurlock will officiate.
Mr. Heath, of Rogers Chapel Road in Clover, died Saturday, October 2, 2004, at McGuires Veterans Hospital in Richmond.
He was 81.
Mr. Heath was born August 19, 1923 in Attalla, Ala., the son of the late Charles George Heath and the late Mary Lou Strickland Heath.
He was married to Rebecca Roller Heath and attended Rogers Chapel Baptist Church.
Mr. Heath was a WWII Air Force veteran and was a cab driver.
Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Brenda Heath Herbert of South Boston; one stepson, Seth Daniel of Clover; one stepdaughter, Mary Ellen Daniel of Clover; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, one step-grandchild; Joshua Daniel of Clover; one foster brother, Cedric Arrington and one foster sister-in-law, Vivian Arrington of South Boston.
Emmogene Seamster Jones
Mrs. Emmogene Seamster Jones of 1025 Harris Drive, South Boston, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Jones were incomplete at press time Sunday, but will be announced by Powell Funeral Home once completed.
Giles Jackson ‘Pete’ Nichols
Mr. Giles Jackson "Pete" Nichols of South Boston and formerly of Richmond died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 at The Woodview.
He was 89.
Mr. Nichols was born February 4, 1915, in Halifax County to the late Giles Young Nichols and the late Mary Sue Hart Nichols. He was married to the late Evie Long Nichols.
He was a member of the Dan River Baptist Church, a World War II Army veteran, and was a retired optician with Southern Optical in Richmond.
Mr. Nichols is survived by a sister, Mary N. Hatcher of South Boston, and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evie Long Nichols.
Graveside services for Mr. Nichols were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Boston with the Rev. Doug Gibson officiating.

Gladys Victoria Stroupe
Gladys Victoria Stroupe, 90, of Lenoir, N.C., died September 30, 2004, at Caldwell County Hospice.
She was born August 12, 1914, in Caldwell County, N.C. to the late Jacob and Lula Mulwee Bean.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest B. Stroupe; six brothers; five sisters; and a grandson, Dennis Oxford.
Mrs. Stroupe was a member of Whitnel First Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was retired from Broyhill Furniture Industries.
Survivors include four daughters, Joan Lowe of Miami, Fla., Martha Oxford and husband, Allen, of Hudson, N.C., Aileene Minton and husband, William, of Lenoir, and Kathleen Miller of Sunset Beach, S.C.; a brother, Ray Bean of Lenoir; a sister, Myrtle Holman of Lenoir; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services were held October 2 at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stuart White officiating. Burial followed in Whitnel First Baptist Church cemetery.

Minerva Thomas Tuck
Mrs. Minerva Thomas Tuck, of South Boston, died Sunday, October 3, 2004 at Boston Manor.
Mrs. Tuck was born February 11, 1914 in Woodsdale and was 90-years-old at the time of her death.
She was the daughter of the late John William Thomas and the late Evie Ann Morris Thomas and was married to the late William Irby Tuck Sr.
She was a member of the Cherry Hill United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Minerva Thomas Tuck is survived by two sons, Robert Curtis Tuck and wife Carolyn, and Ray Nathaniel Tuck and wife Carol, of South Boston; five grandchildren, Cynthia Watson, of Ringgold, Diane Ches of Owings Mill, Md., Ray Tuck Jr. of Richmond, Travis W. Tuck of South Boston, and Gregory Long of Danville; three great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Geneva Anderson, and one son, William Irby Tuck Jr.
Graveside services for Minerva Thomas Tuck will be held tomorrow, October 5, at Halifax Memorial Gardens in South Boston, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Jason Bryant officiating.
