Nellie Jane Wyatt
Nellie Jane Wyatt, 79, of Drakes Branch, died October 19, 2004.
Her survivors include five daughters: Rita Barksdale, Dorothy Watford, Amy Rutledge, Rachel Issac and Betty Gryder; two sons: Sam and Joe Wyatt; 26 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sons: Charles and Bo Wyatt and her husband:
Charles Wyatt.
A graveside service was held October 21 at Clover Bottom Baptist Church cemetery.
Grayson Mallory Johnson
Funeral services for Mr. Grayson Mallory Johnson were held yesterday at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel.
The Revs. Robert Johnston and Dr. Russell Lee officiated.
Burial followed in the Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson, of Clarksville, died Thursday, October 21, 2004.
He was 37.
Mr. Johnson was the son of Charles William Johnson and Patricia Gosney Johnson and was married to Sara Louise Platzke Johnson.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 79 in South Hill and was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in South Boston.
Mr. Johnson was a plant superintendent for Roanoke River Service Authority in South Hill.
He is survived by his wife, his parents, one brother, Charles “Chip” Johnson of Halifax, his grandfather, Grayson Gosney of South Boston and two nephews, Patrick Johnson of Clarksville and Joseph Brady Platzke of Boydton.
Nancy Conner Harris
Funeral services for Mrs. Nancy Conner Harris were held Sunday at the Brooks Funeral Home Chapel.
The Rev. Richard Saunders officiated.
Burial followed in the Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Harris died Thursday, October 21, 2004, at the Halifax Regional Hospital.
She was 65.
Mrs. Harris was born in Halifax County on September 2, 1939, the daughter of the late Sallie Pat Moore Conner and the late Emmitt Conner. She was married to the late Ernest Harris.
She attended Centerville Baptist Church and was had worked at Wabash Magnetics.
Survivors include one son, David W. Harris and wife Linda of South Boston, a faithful companion, Homer McClure, five sisters, Margaret Owen of Vernon Hill, Irene New, of South Boston, Violet Landrum of Vernon Hill, Betty Anderson and Hazel Clark, both of South Boston, and one brother, John Henry Conner of Hampton, and one grandson.
She was preceded in death by one brother, A.C. Conner.
Carroll Edward Rice
Carroll Edward Rice, 65, of Volens Road in Nathalie, died Friday, October 22, 2004, at his home.
He was the husband of the late Margaret Lloyd Rice.
Mr. Rice was born in Halifax County on March 1, 1939, the son of the late Lewis Edward Rice and Lona Anderson Rice Francis.
He was a member of Childrey Baptist Church, an Army veteran and a retired electrician.
Survivors include two sons, Russell Allen Rice of Danville and Barry Rice of Nathalie, two step-sons, Donald Seamster of Nathalie and Carroll B. Seamster of Gladys, two brothers, Doug Francis of Vernon Hill and Larry Francis of Nathalie, three sisters, Mavis Eser of Baltimore, Md., Anita Powell of Nathalie and Margie Monroe of Halifax and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald E. Rice and two brothers, James L. Rice and Lester Francis.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Catawba Baptist Church cemetery.
The Rev. David Dickerson will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Anita Powell, L.P. Bailey Memorial Highway in Nathalie.
Carolyn Ann Smith
Carolyn Ann Smith, 68, of Easley Street in South Boston, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004 at her niece’s home.
Miss Smith was born December 2, 1935, in Halifax County, the daughter of the late Stanley Smith and Myrtle Forlines Smith.
She was a retired employee of Tultex and was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Carolyn Ann Smith is survived by: four nieces, Rita S. Clark and husband, Tom of South Boston; Marie Eaker of Roxboro; Donna S. Wilborn of South Boston; Margaret S. McMullen of North Carolina; three nephews, James E. Smith Jr. of Nelson, John S. Smith of North Carolina, and Cephas H. Smith of North Carolina; two cousins, Jean S. Poole and Ron T. Smith and wife Marianne of Richmond; 13 great nieces and nephews, and 2 great-great nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James E. Smith Sr. and his wife Hilda R. Smith.
Funeral services for Carolyn Ann Smith will be today, October 25, at 2 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel, with interment at Hitesburg Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the home of Rita and Tom Clark, 1323 Terry Ave., South Boston.

Ernestine Huskey Brown
Ernestine Huskey Brown, 79, of Knoxville, Tenn. died October 24, 2004, at Shannondale Nursing Home.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Lona Huskey; and sisters, Mary King and Ada Waterfield. She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Anen Brown; one son, Robert E. Brown and his wife, Dorothy, of South Boston; one daughter, Dorothy Johnson; grandchildren, Edward G. Johnson and his wife, Susan, Darin S. Brown and wife, Kristi, David L. Brown and wife, Jennifer, and Catherine H. Brown; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ezalee Eaton and Dorsona Whitaker.
A funeral service will be held today, October 27 at 11 a.m. at Weaver Chapel. Burial will follow at Piney Grove Church Cemetery.
Grey Benford Clark
Grey Benford Clark, 76, of 5230 James D. Hagood Highway, Scottsburg, died October 24, 2004 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mr. Clark was born in Halifax County on March 27, 1928, the son of Joe Whitt Clark and Kate Coates Clark and was married to Frances Seamster Clark. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Lisa Clark McGill of Scottsburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis Clark and wife, Becky, of Alton; and one granddaughter, Jessica McGill of Scottsburg.
A funeral service for Mr. Clark will be held today, October 27 at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Dr. Melvin Bradshaw and Vance Midget officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Cemetery with Military Rites.

John Robert Sneed
John Robert Sneed, 86, of 1918 Eastover Drive, South Boston, died October 25, 2004 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mr. Sneed was born in Halifax County on August 10, 1918, the son of Arthur Manley Sneed and Mattie Bell Culley Sneed and was married to Dorothy Williams Sneed. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in South Boston and was a Navy Veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Melony Sneed Ellington and her husband, Timothy Wayne Ellington of Virginia Beach; and one grandson, John Henry Ellington of Virginia Beach.
Mr. Sneed was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Watts, Sylvia Jones and Zemula Rose; and five brothers, Albert, Arthur, Chester, Giles and Richard Sneed.
A graveside service will be held tomorrow, October 28, at 11 a.m. at Halifax Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Horace Murray will officiate.
The family will receive friends this evening, October 27 from 7:00 until 8:30 at Powell Funeral Home.

Sharon Michelle Womack
Sharon Michelle Womack, 31, of Advance, N.C., formerly of Halifax County, died October 22 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem, N.C.
Miss Womack was born in Halifax County on April 25, 1973, the daughter of Ronnie Womack and Phyllis Keels.
Survivors include one son, Brendan Gage Rice of Advance; her fiance', Ronald E. Rice III of Advance; her father and his fiance', Lois Green, of Vernon Hill; her mother, and her husband, Scott Keels of Sutherlin; one sister, Rhonda Ann Womack of Halifax; her paternal grandmother, Mildred Womack, of Vernon Hill; and her maternal grandparents, Russell and Helen Mitchell of Blairs.
A memorial service for Miss Womack was held October 26 at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel in South Boston with the Rev. Joe Lotts officiating. Graveside rites followed at the Womack Family Cemetery in Vernon Hill.
Al Laranzo Roberts
Funeral arrangements for Mr. Al Laranzo Roberts are scheduled for Oct. 29, 2004, and family members will receive friends that Friday from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City.
Funeral services will be held Oct. 30, 2004 (Saturday) at 11 a.m. at Silone Baptist Church, Chase City, with Rev. Willie L. Carter Sr. officiating.
Burial will follow in Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chase City.
Mr. Roberts was born in Halifax County on December 26, 1985 to Avon Roberts and Lewis White and was predeceased by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Roberts; one brother, Bryant Roberts; two cousins, Donald Boyd and Jersey Roberts.
Survivors are his mother, Miss Avon D. Roberts of Chase City; two sisters, Tracey Roberts and Sophfeia Roberts, both of Chase City; two brothers, LaRoyal Roberts and Donnelle Roberts, both of Chase City; four aunts; three uncles; vast number of other relatives and friends.
Mildred Morris Wilmouth
Mildred Morris Wilmouth, 85, of Clarksville, died October 27, 2004 in South Boston.
She was the daughter of the late Wallace and Lillie Hamlette Morris, born in Charlotte County.
Mrs. Wilmouth was married to the late Frank Wilson Wilmouth. She was a member of Nelson Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher; president of the Women’s Missionary Union and was a member of Girls in Action.
A funeral service will be held tomorrow, October 30, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Nelson Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim McAlister officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors of Mrs. Wilmouth include a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce W. and Garland Clack of Clarksville; a granddaughter and her husband, Juanita C. and Bob Williams of Buffalo Junction; and three great-grandchildren, Angela Marie, Kirby Elizabeth and Jessica Danielle Williams.
Mrs. Wilmouth was preceded in death by one daughter, Frances Wilmouth.

Tony Leon Tucker
Tony Leon Tucker, 58, of 1161 East Elkhorn Road, Java died October 26, 2004 at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg.
Mr. Tucker was born in Philadelphia, Pa. On August 15, 1946, the son of Hampton Leon Tucker and the late Joyce Virginia Mayo Tucker. He was a Vietnam Marine Corps Veteran and was employed by central State Hospital in Petersburg. He was a member of Elkhorn Baptist Church and a member of American Legion Post 29.
Survivors of Mr. Tucker include his father; one daughter, Tyrese S. Tucker of Alexandria; one son, Titus D. Tucker of Danville; three brothers, Harold Tanner of Mitchellville,Md., Sylvester Mayo and Glenn Waddell, both of Danville; and one sister, Deborah Womack of Danville.
A funeral service for Mr. Tucker will be held tomorrow, October 30 at 1 p.m. at Elkhorn Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. C.L. Motley officiating. Burial will follow in the Tucker Family Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post #99 and #29.

Mamie Penick Williams
Mamie Penick Williams, 91, of 1192 Harding Mill Road, Nathalie died October 26, 2004 at her home.
Mrs. Williams was born in Halifax County on June 6, 1913, the daughter of the late Jim Penick and Annie Clark Penick and was married to the late John Henry Williams. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Canada of Nathalie, Janice Rice of South Boston and Margaret Lewis of Long Island, N.Y.; two sons, Melvin Williams of Alexandria and Roy Williams of Nathalie; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Williams.
A funeral service will be held October 31 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. James E. Traynham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
