Harry Webb Owen
Harry Webb Owen, 55, of Sutherlin died November 12, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mr. Owen was born in Halifax County on October 17, 1948, the son of Thomas W. Owen and Elizabeth McCrary Owen. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Dan River Flyers Club and the South Boston/Halifax County Historical Museum.
Survivors of Mr. Owen include his mother of South Boston; one sister, Ann Owen Ozmer and her husband, Jim, of Sutherlin; and one nephew, Adam Webb Ozmer of Richmond.
A graveside service will be held today, November 14 at 3 p.m. in Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Tim Cannon officiating.

Marion Dunn Burton
Marion Dunn Burton, 98, of 1034 New Bethel Road, Alton died November 12, 2003 at The Woodview.
Mrs. Burton was born in Halifax County on December 4, 1904, the daughter of Luthus Dunn Jr. and Ellen Watkins Dunn and was married to William M. Burton. She was a member of New Ephesus Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Gloria Thomas of Spring Lake, N.C.; two sons, Lambous Burton of Hillside, N.J. and Sterling Burton of South Boston; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Burton was preceded in death by two sons, Luthus Burton and Robert ‘Buck’ Burton.
Funeral services will be held November 19 at 1 p.m. at New Ephesus Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at Jeffress Funeral Home Chapel from 7:00 to 8:00.
Janie Helen Smith Clark
Janie Helen Smith Clark, 93, of Halifax, died Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
She was born in Halifax County on March 22, 1910, and was the daughter of the late Ephrim Smith and Maria Light Smith and was married to the late Moses Clark. She was a member of the Solid Rock Full Gospel Apostolic Church.
Mrs. Clark is survived by 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two daughters-in-laws, Augustine F Willis and Hellen F. Clark, a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two sons, James Jesse Clark and Moses Clark Jr.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 18, at 1 p.m. at the Greater Solid Rock Full Gospel Church with the Bishop Alan B. Graves officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Janice Torian, Dryburg Road, Scottsburg.
Luther Robert ‘Bobby’ Reagan
Luther Robert (Bobby) Reagan, 42, of Nathalie died Friday, November 14, 2003, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
He was born in Halifax County on January 10, 1961, the son of James Aster Reagan and Faye Seamster Kean. He was a member of the Liberty French Masonic Lodge 270.
Mr. Reagan is survived by his parents, one daughter, Chaley Reagan of Clover, his fiance, Lisa Daniels of Nathalie, one step-daughter, Katelyn Daniels of South Boston, three half-sisters, Penny Reagan of Halifax, Sallie Ann Reagan Colwell of Danville and Pam Reagan Griffin of Oxford, N.C., one half-brother, Jimmy Reagan of South Boston, his step-father, Jerry Kean of Nathalie, one step-brother, Kevin Kean of Richmond and his grandmother, Margaret Seamster of Mt. Laurel.
Mr. Reagan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Luther and Hester Reagan and Robert A. Seamster.
Funeral services were held yesterday, November 16, at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Watts officiating.
He was buried
in the Clover Cemetery with Masonic rites.

Pauline Ruth Bourne West
Mrs. Pauline Ruth Bourne West of Mimosa Drive, Halifax, died November 15, 2003 at her home.
Mrs. West was born in Charleston, West Virginia, on April 3, 1919, and was 84-years-old at the time of her death.
Pauline Ruth Bourne West was a daughter of Edwin R. Bourne and Cora A. Bourne, and was married to the late George Robert Bullock Jr., and Ralph Leland West.
She was a member of The Beth Car Baptist Church.
Mrs. West is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ruth Gallaher and husband Gerald of Tomball, Texas; and Leisa Bullock-Atha and husband Bobby of Halifax; two sons, George Robert Bullock III and wife Marilyn of New Hope, Pennsylvania, and Richard Tyler Bullock of Atlanta, Georgia; nine grandchildren, Kelley Wagnon of Tomball, Texas, Gerald Gallaher Jr. of Tomball, Texas, Travis Haynes of Charleston, West Virginia, Stacey Atha of Halifax, Jason Testerman of Cincinnatti, Ohio, Justin Testerman of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Meredith Bullock of Atlanta, Georgia, Jillian Bullock of Atlanta, Georgia, and Sterling Bullock of Atlanta, Georgia; two nephews, Phillip Bourne and wife Clarkie of Grandview, Tennessee, and Daniel Snyder and wife Carlene of Brandon, Florida; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mary Catherine Newton Wilkins
Mary Catherine Newton Wilkins, 71, of 908 Edmunds Street, South Boston died November 12, 2003 at The Woodview.
Mrs. Wilkins was born in Halifax County on August 17, 1932, the daughter of Armstead Newton and Alice Terry Newton and was married to Willie Wilkins Jr. She was a member of Greater Mayfield Apostolic Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Barbara D. Wilkins of Los Angeles, Calif, Jacqueline D. Wilkins of Richmond, Deborah Hankins of Danville, Karen L. Wilkins of South Boston and Joyce N. Jones of Washington, D.C.; four sons, Elder Bernard Wilkins and Michael T. Newton, both of South Boston, Michael Wilkins of Fredericksburg and Edward E. Wilkins of Petersburg; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Alice Payne of Washington; and one brother, James Newton of South Boston.

Denice Sandidge Eckel
Denice Sandidge Eckel died November 17, 2003 at Medical College of Virginia Hospital.
Mrs. Eckel is survived by her mother, Doris H. Moorefield and husband, Robert, of Scottsburg; father, James W. Sandidge Sr. and wife, Carol, of Newport News; two stepsisters, Nancy Rowe and Mary Wiggs, both of Newport News; three stepbrothers, Wayne Moorefield of Yorktown, Rodney Moorefield of Phoenix, Ariz., and Travis Justice of Newport News; and a devoted friend, Richard Stover. She was preceded in death by one brother, James W. Sandidge Jr.
A graveside service for Mrs. Eckel will be held November 20 at 2 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park of Newport News with the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs officiating.

Mirandie Brankley Herndon
Mirandie Brankley Herndon, 86, of South Boston died November 17, 2003 at her home.
She was born in Mecklenburg County on March 30, 1917, the daughter of John Whitest Brankley and Olympia Ellington Brankley and was married to Wilford N. Herndon.
Mrs. Herndon was a member of First Baptist Church and the DAR-Berryman Green Chapter.
Survivors include one son, Wilford N. Herndon Jr. and wife, Carolyn, of Charlottesville; one daughter, Sandra Herndon Fuller and husband, Rawley, of Burlington, N.C.; two brothers, John S. Brankley and Harvey C. Brankley, both of Chase City; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Herndon will be held today, November 19 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Tim Cannon officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Coy Wyatt Kaczor
Coy Wyatt Kaczor, six months old, died November 16, 2003 in Roanoke Community Hospital.
Infant Kaczor was born May 16, 2003, in Martinsville the son of W.L. 'John' Kaczor and Donna Martin Kaczor.
Other than his parents, survivors include his maternal grandparents, Dean and Dale Martin of Axton; paternal grandparents, Vic and Debbie Kaczor of Martinsville; maternal great-grandparents, Florence Hite and Berth Martin, both of South Boston; and his paternal great-grandmother, Lois Hilton of Searcy, Ark. He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Jackie Ackridge Kaczor; two great-grandfathers, Roy Lee Hite and Robert Martin.
Funeral services for infant Kaczor will be held tomorrow, November 20 at 2 p.m. at Rich Acres Christian Church in Martinsville. Ministers Tim Hunt and Phillip Murdock will officiate. Burial will follow in the Foster Family Cemetery in the Figsboro area.

Charlie Cleveland Moore Jr.
Charlie Cleveland Moore Jr., 79, of 12091 Philpott Road, Alton, died November 17, 2003 at his home.
Mr. Moore was born in Pittsylvania County on August 21, 1924, the son of Ruby Pruett Moore and Charlie Cleveland Moore Sr. and was married to Cornelia Solomon Moore. He was a member of Olive Branch United Methodist Church, Turbeville Ruritan Club, and the American Legion Post 8, and was a former member of Turbeville Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a retired foreman with Brown & Williamson and was a US Army Veteran.
Graveside services will be held today, November 19 at 2 p.m. at Olive Branch UMC Cemetery. The Revs. Karen Sandoval and Michael Teixeira will officiate.
Survivors of Mr. Moore include his wife; three sisters, Frances Butler of Sutherlin, Hattie Felts of Ivor, and Nora Solomon of Alton; one brother, Jimmie Moore of Alton; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Elsie Adams; and three brothers, Wister, Louis and Edward 'Tad' Moore.

Edward Meeks Bomar Jr.
Edward Meeks Bomar Jr., 81, of Lynchburg died November 19, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Pauline Ellington Bomar.
Mr. Bomar was born in Halifax County May 4, 1922, the son of Edward M. Bomar Sr. and Clara Francis Bomar. He was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, an Army Veteran of WWII, member of The American Legion Post #16, and retired employee of The Burriss Company.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Barbara Lanier and husband, Rick, of Madison Heights, Connie Fisher and husband, Billy, of Mechanicsville, and Sandra Davis and husband, Walter, of Forest; three brothers, Fred Bomar, Bennie Bomar, and Ray Bomar, all of Nathalie; three sisters, Louise Henderson of Nathalie, Joyce Trent of Manassas, and Barbara Layne of Gretna; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Bomar was preceded in death by a son, Edward 'Mickey' Bomar III.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow, November 22 at Sharon United Methodist Church by the Revs. Billy Swan and Melvin Campbell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Lionel B. Epps
Lionel B. Epps, 90, of Newport News died November 18, 2003 at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
A native of Halifax County, he moved to the Peninsula during WWII. He was hired at Ft. Eustis where he was employed for more than 38 years in a variety of positions.
Mr. Epps was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Epps. Survivors include his daughter, Laura Epps Auby and her husband, Mike, of Newport News; his sister, Jane E. Hern of Staunton; three grandchildren, Hannah and Phillip Auby and John Epps; and one great-grandchild, Meghan Epps.
Graveside services will be conducted by Pastor Lewis Hall on Monday, November 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Dan River Baptist Church Cemetery.

Bessie Patrick Stewart, 40, of 1010 Dana Court, South Boston died November 19, 2003 in South Boston.
Ms. Stewart was born in Halifax County on March 12, 1963, the daughter of Leroy Patrick and Annie Vass Patrick. She was a member of First Baptist Church of News Ferry and was employed by Wachovia Bank.
Survivors include one daughter, Kiera Stewart of the home; one son, Travis Stewart of the home; five sisters, Mary Patrick and Ella Bowman, both of South Boston, Flo Macklin of Reidsville, N.C., Phyllis Wright of Ft. Washington, Md. and Elizabeth Patrick of Washington, D.C.; one brother, William Patrick of South Boston; one sister-in-law, Christina Patrick; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Wright and Richard Macklin.
Funeral services for Ms. Stewart will be held tomorrow, November 22 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Ferry Street, South Boston with the Rev. Ronnie Keene officiating. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church of News Ferry Cemetery.

Beatrice Earl Snow Hamlett, 90, of 3081 North Terry's Bridge Road, Halifax died November 20, 2003 at The Woodview.
Mrs. Hamlett was born in Caswell County, N.C. on March 9, 1913, the daughter of Jim Snow and Maggie Thaxton Snow and was married to the late George Lee Hamlett. She was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Lorene Weaver of South Boston, Ruby Howerton and Joyce Jones, both of Alton, and Shirley Lewis of Halifax; one son, Alton Hamlett of Alton; one sister, Mildred Solomon Daniels of South Boston; three brothers, Franklin Snow of South Boston, Johnny Snow of Burlington, N.C. and Melvin Snow of Hickory, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sons, George Hamlett Jr. and Ricky Hamlett.
Graveside services will be held tomorrow, November 22 at 10 a.m. at Halifax Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Dennis Ball will officiate.
