Goldstone, James, 68, a longtime director of feature films and television shows, including the pilot episode of "Star Trek," died of cancer Friday in Shaftsbury, Vt. His movies included "Red Sky at Morning," "Winning" and "The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight."
Goodhart, Malcolm, 74, author of the hit 1960s Broadway comedy "Generation," which starred Henry Fonda and later was made into a movie, died of heart disease Oct. 20 on Shelter Island, N.Y.
Hadfield, John, 92, the British author and publisher whose comic novel of eccentric goings-on in an English stately home, "Love on a Branch Line," became a television series, died Oct 10.
Messick, Hank, 77, an investigative journalist and author whose 19 books included "Lansky," a biography of mobster Meyer Lansky, died of Sjogren's syndrome Saturday in Miami.
Hunter, Max, 78, a folklorist who collected hillbilly songs, stories and expressions such as "Ugly as a mud fence" and "Pretty as a speckled pup," died Saturday in Springfield, Mo.
