Maxine Pyles Doyle
DOYLE, MAXINE PYLES, 76 of Pearisburg, VA passed away Tuesday evening, November 20, 2007 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Mrs. Doyle was born on September 21, 1931 in Edgarton, WV and was a daughter of the late Clyde M Pyles and Ivory Wohford Pyles. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Bently. Mrs. Doyle was a pass member of the Pearisburg Baptist Church. Mrs. Doyle is survived by her husband of 61 years, Cecil R. Doyle of Pearisburg, two sons, Richard E. Doyle of Pearisburg, Robert Lee and wife Cindy Doyle of Prince George, one daughter, Sandra Ann Ratcliffe of Colonial Heights, two brothers, Gene Pyles of Hopewell, Orville McCoy of Phelps, KY, six grandchildren, Richard Wayne Doyle, Shane Eugene Doyle, Danien Lee Doyle, Ashley Lee Doyle, Cecil James Toy Doyle, Andrea Kreps, two great grandchildren, Mavia Doyle and Zanader Doyle. Memorial services will be conducted Friday, November 23, 2007 at 11:00am at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg, VA with the Rev. Fred L. Austin Officiating.
Ashlie E. Stewart
Ashlie E. Stewart of Pearisburg, Virginia passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2007.
She will be commended to her Lord in a private memorial service with her family and closest friends.
She leaves a loving mother and father, and one brother together with his family.
Visitation hours are 10:AM until Noon on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 with arrangements by Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg.
Laurie Marie Ziegerfuss Tyler
TYLER, LAURIE MARIE ZIEGENFUSS, 52 of Pembroke, VA, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg, VA. Mrs. Tyler was born on August 14, 1952 in Palmerton, PA and was a daughter of the late Joyce Lorraine Haydt Ziegenfuss and George L. Ziegenfuss. Laurie was a 1973 graduate of Palmerton High School, a 1977 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in biology and did graduate work at George Washington University in Environmental Policy. She dedicated her life in trying to make this world a safer place to be in. Laurie is survived by her husband, James E. Tyler of Pembroke, her father and stepmother, George L and Murray Ziegerfuss of Speedwell, VA and one daughter, Amelia Joan Tyler of Pembroke, two brothers, Paul and Peter Ziegenfuss. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 17, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg at 2:00 pm with Rev Linda Mitchell Motley officiating and Rev. David Skole presenting the sermon. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg Friday evening from 6 – 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Giles Memorial Hospital Foundation dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
Mary Frances Munsey Lucas
LUCAS, MARY FRANCES MUNSEY, 95 of Narrows, VA., formerly of Petersburg, VA., passed away Monday, November 19, 2007 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Mrs. Lucas was born on November 28, 1911 in Pearisburg and was a daughter of the late Shirley Cleveland Munsey and Jenny Gott Munsey. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Lucas, and three brothers, John W. (Jake) Munsey, Robert L. Munsey and Charles A. (Bud) Munsey Mrs. Lucas was a retired employee of Brown & Williams Tobacco Corp in Petersburg, VA and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rich Creek, VA. She is survived by three nieces, Bonnie Jean Pruitt of Narrows, Paula Reynolds of Rick Creek and Jenny Ashworth of Aiken, SC, and one nephew, Robert C. (Bucky) Munsey of Pearisburg. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 2:00pm at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Aubrey Whitlow officiating with burial following in Blandford cemetery in Petersburg, VA on Monday at 11:00am. The family will receive friends one hour before the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church in Rich Creek in her memory.
Rosemary Dawn Robinson
Robinson, Rosemary Dawn, 52, of Pearisburg went home to Heaven on Monday, October 22. Born on Christmas Eve in 1954, her life and free spirit were a gift to all who ever met her. A natural thrill seeker who loved roller coasters, she never passed up a chance to live her life to the fullest. She had the heart of a giver and blessed all who knew her. As an avid sports fan, loyal Sunday School teacher, and dedicated employee of Food Lion, many, many lives were touched by her gentle ways, her generosity, and her love of God. Like her grandfather, she never met a stranger. She will be missed by many, but especially by her parents, Glenn and Lois Robinson of Pearisburg, VA, her sister, Sharon of Lynchburg, Nakita the dog and Charlie the bird, as well as a multitude of friends. You are invited to celebrate her life by attending visitation at Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg from 5 – 7pm Thursday evening and a memorial service at 7:00pm following the visitation. The Rev Bill Sleaseman and the Rev. E.C. Redmond will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Rosie’s name to Animal Rescue and the Humane Society in Giles County.
Grace Elma Covey Robertson
ROBERTSON, GRACE ELMA COVEY, of Thessalia, (Pearisburg), VA passed away Monday, October 22, 2007 at her home. Mrs. Robertson was born on March 10, 1916 in Snowville, VA and was a daughter of the late Ray Roberts Covey and Martha Dotte Hambrick Covey. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Wood Robertson, and one brother, E. Ellis Covey. Mrs Robertson was a one of the first woman to graduate VA Tech that lived on campus. She was a retired school teacher in Giles County with over 30 years service, a member of the Thessalia United Methodist Church, the Staffordsville United Methodist Women, a charter and current member of the Xi Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa and past President of the Giles County Historical Society. She is survived by two daughters, Lula Wood and husband Larry of Perry, FL, Linda Henderson and husband Charles of Pearisburg, one son Arthur Robertson and wife Mary of Fredericksburg, two brothers, Ray Roberts Covey, Jr. of Snowville, Joe H. Covey and wife Hazel of Dublin, one sister, Martha Dotte VanMeter and husband Charles of Pulaski, three grandchildren, Charles R. Henderson, Jr., David R. Henderson, James A. Robertson and two great grandchildren, Callie and Tierra. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 11:00am at the Thessalia United Methodist Church with Rev. Paula Campbell officiating with burial following in the Thessalia cemetery. The family will receive friends at Givens Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 pm. Pauline Gardner Anderson
ANDERSON, PAULINE GARDNER, 85 of Pearisburg, Va went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Pulaski Community Hospital. Mrs. Anderson was born on August 19, 1922 in Burnsville, NC and was a daughter of the late W. W. and Hattie Silvers Gardner. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Patrick (Pat) Anderson, four brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Anderson a devoted mother and wife and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg. She is survived by two daughters, Claudia and husband Ray Marshall of Richmond, Linda Jackson of Roanoke, four grandchildren, Pam M. and Jim Murphy, David and Gail Marshall, Tiffany Jackson and Amber Jackson, three great granddaughters, Heather Murphy, Caitlyn Marshall and Bracey Marshall and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 11:00am with the Rev. Ronnie Mutter officiating with entombment following at the Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the First United Methodist Church from 10 – 11 before the service. William Harvey Niday, Jr.
NIDAY, Jr., WILLIAM HARVEY 74 of Ripplemead, VA went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke, VA where he had been a resident since suffering a massive stroke in September 2004. Harve was born on October 29, 1932 in Ripplemead, VA and was a son of the late William Harvey Niday, Sr. and Berta Anderson Niday. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Martha Carr and one brother-in-law, Robert Doty. Today a busy man has found peace and rest. Harve, the unofficial Mayor of Ripplemead, was a lifelong resident of this friendly village in Giles County, VA. Harve graduated from Pearisburg High School and attended Emory and Henry College. He was on active duty in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, then served in the Army Reserve until 1992 attaining the rank of Sergeant Major. Harve was retired from the C & P Telephone Co. For many years he was an active private pilot and a member of the Civil Air Patrol and the Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS). He served on the Giles County and the Virginia State Planning Commissions. He was an accomplished electrician, carpenter, plumber and radioman. He is survived by, two sons, W.H. Niday, III of Ripplemead, Keith Niday and wife Dana and son Ian Austin of Bland, VA., adopted daughter, Stephanie Carroll and husband Lynn of Salem, VA., three sisters, Janice and husband Robert Tate of Mechanicsville, Carol Doty of Medford, Oregon and Faith Briggs and husband Richard of Ripplemead and J.M. Carr, Martha Carr, MD, Barbara Hicken, John Ivan Doty, William Plummer and Sarah Plummer nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 11:00 am at Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Pastor Tommy Barnes officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg, Friday evening from 6 – 9 pm.
