TABOR, MARGIE VENCIL CONLEY, 92 of Pearisburg, VA passed away Monday, January 15, 2007 at Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg were she made her home for the last five years. Mrs. Tabor was born in Bland County on October 29, 1914 and was a daughter of the late Bryant and Nora Burton Conley. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Meddie G. Tabor, two daughters, Freda T. Williams, Carolyn T. Shumate, two brother, J.B. Conley, Curtis Conley, three sisters, Garrett Fadely, Lillian Isom, Eva Deal and one grandchild, Ricky Humphreys. Mrs. Tabor was a lifelong and faithful member of the Mt. View Methodist Church on Guinea Mountain. She is survived by, three children, June T. Perkins of Pembroke, Jo Ann Tabor of Jonesville, MI, Howard J. Tabor of Montpelier, VA, two sisters, Janice Deal of Winston-Salem, NC, Evelyn Conley of Spring Hill, Fl, 15 Grandchildren, Wayne Perkins, David Perkins, Sandra Williams, Deborah Hargrave, Robert Williams, Marjorie Williams, Randolph Williams, Charles Shumate, Tamela S. Layman, Michael Shumate, Donna M. King, Michael Mason, Jill M. Downie, Megan and Laura Tabor and sixteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 18, 2007 at 11:00am at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Betty Roberts officiating with burial following in the Mt. View cemetery, Guinea Mountain, Pearisburg, VA. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home, Wednesday evening from 6 8. Memorial donations can be made to the Mt. George Edward Donovan
DONOVAN, GEORGE EDWARD (ED), 81 of Pearisburg, VA passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at his home. Mr. Donovan was born in Princeton, WV on March 26, 1925 and was a son of the late George C. and Florence Woodyard Donovan. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Donovan. Mr. Donovan was WWII Army Air Force Veteran, and served as a radio operator in a bomber squadron in the European Theater, a retired Civil Servant, a member of the Pearisburg Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years, a member of the Pearisburg Lions Club with 43 years perfect attendance, past president of the Lions Club, past Lion of the Year and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. Mr. Donovan was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg and a member of the VFW Post 6000 and American Legion #68 in Narrows, VA. George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Bingham Donovan of Pearisburg, one daughter, Becky Donovan Paule and husband Lane of Anchorage, AK, two sons, David Donovan and wife Anne of Eagle Rock, VA, Steven Donovan and wife Judy of Roanoke, VA, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg, Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 11:00am with Dr. Fred L. Austin officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church from 10:00 to 11:00am before the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Pearisburg Vol. Fire Dept, the Pearisburg Lions Club or to a charity of your choice.

JOHNSON, Mabel Kincaid
Mabel Kincaid Johnson, 87, of Narrows, passed away on February 19, 2004 in the Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. She was born at Maben, W.Va. on March 26, 1916, and was the daughter of the late Robert Earl and Lexie Lee Suddeth Kincaid. She moved with her family to Narrows in 1938. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roe Sim Johnson; a son, Mack D. Johnson; two brothers, Tate and Ben Kincaid of N.C.; and two sisters, Opel Clark and Carmel Banner of N.C. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra M. and Bill Evans of Peterstown, W.Va., Betty West of Wilmington, Delaware; three sons, Jack Johnson of Peterstown, W.Va., Wayne Johnson of Pearisburg, Jim and Evelyn Johnson of Hope, Arkansas; 14 grandchildren, Teri and Keith Page of Peterstown, W.Va., Mike and Nanhee Meyer of Hanover, Md., Mark and Charlene Powell of Wilmington, Delaware, April and Henry Whitehurst of Christiansburg, Va., Phil and Julia Johnson of Pembroke, Shelly Johnson of Pearisburg, Tony and Sandy Johnson of Radford, Penny and Scott Keaton of Pembroke, Bruce and Erica Johnson, Tamie Freire, Sherry Johnson, Renee Bush, Joe Johnson, David Johnson, all of Arkansas; special friends, Brenda Martin, Lil Bailey and Sandy Spicer Melanson; and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 22, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service Narrows with the Rev. Scott Sears officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery in Narrows. PORTERFIELD, Noble Dewey
Nobel Dewey Porterfield, 92, of the Maybrook Community near Pembroke, died Monday morning April 19, 2004 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Newport on March 24, 1912, he was a son of the late Jesse Clyde and Annie Z. Porterfield. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pembroke Ward; a veteran of the U.S. Army in WWII; retired from the Celanese Celco Plant at Narrows; and an avid baseball fan and played in his younger days. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Porterfield and three brothers, Cecil, Clyde, and Bob Porterfield. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Christine Lucas Porterfield; two daughters and son-in-law, Elizabeth "Mickey" Porterfield of the home, and Roechelle and Allen Breeding of Maybrook; a grandson, Allen Breeding; a sister, Reba P. Montgomery; and a special caregiver, Dorothy Paige. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 22, 2004 in the Prembroke Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop John Cosgriff presiding. Burial will be in the Lucas Family cemetery at Newport. Sarah Eaton Strole
STROLE, SARAH EATON, 69 of Greensboro, NC, formerly of Pearisburg, VA, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Beacon Place (Hospice), in Greensboro, NC. Ms. Strole was born on April 19, 1937 in Powhatan, WV and was a daughter of the late Preston Starrett Eaton and Paige White Eaton. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Don Eaton. After graduating Pearisburg High School, Sarah began a career with the airlines as a flight attendant, then extensively traveled around the world with her family as a Navy wife. While abroad, she taught english to Japanese students as well as acting as a liaison between the military and their families. She was an integral part of her daughter and son-in-laws business, Environmental Restoration in Greensboro, NC. She was a loving mother, grandmother and was adored by many. She is survived by two daughters, Gretchen and Travis Haynes of Richmond, Robin and Jay Colburn of Greensboro, NC, one son Mark & Francie Strole of Meadows of Dan, VA, three grandchildren, Parker Haynes, Zach Strole, Hunter Strole, four sisters, Peggy E. Body of Roanoke, Jackie and Virgil Bailey of Roanoke, Pat and Bob Cass of Grand Rapids, MI, Frances and Nick Martin of Marietta, GA, two brothers, William (Bill) and Betty Eaton of Ocala, FL, Jerry and Toma Eaton of Pembroke, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 28, 2007 at the Angels Rest Baptist Fellowship Church in Pearisburg at 2:00pm with the Rev. Gary Poff and Rev. Terry F. Martin officiating with entombment following in the Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Saturday evening from 6 8 pm. Opal Robertson Woodyard
WOODYARD, OPAL ROBERTSON, 88 of Pearisburg, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2007 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Mrs. Woodyard was born on September 4, 1918 in Thessalia, VA and was a daughter of the late Grady Robertson and Effie Havens Robertson. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John P. Woodyard, a daughter, Peggy Goad, one brother, Maynard Robertson, two sisters, Alva Meadows and Cuba Liddle. Mrs. Woodyard was a member of the Thessalia Methodist Church and was a former employee of the Celanese Corp. in Narrows. She is survived by her daughter, Betsy Jean and husband Joe Stafford of Staffordsville, one brother, Grady (Bunt) E. Robertson of St. Marys, WV, one sister, Barbara (Chine) Hale of Salem, one sister-in-law, Betty Pearl Robertson of Staffordsville, three grandchildren, one great granddaughter and two great great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Hugh and Mable King, Brian and Melinda Richardson. Funeral services will be conducted, Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. DICKERSON, VIOLET ELIZABETH ANDERSON, 82 of Pearisburg, VA, went to be with the Lord Monday evening, January 8, 2007 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Mrs. Dickerson was born on December 5, 1924 in Pembroke, VA was a daughter of the late Hallie Burton Anderson and Geneva Chapman Anderson. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Millard J. Dickerson, Jr., 2 sisters, Hattie Anderson, Lucile Wagner, one brother, Cecil Anderson, 3 sisters-in-law, Oretha Anderson, Margaret Dickerson, Glenna Dickerson and one brother-in-law, Ernest Banks. Mrs. Dickerson was a former member, secretary, treasurer, choir member and Sunday school teacher of the First Baptist Church in Pembroke. Mrs. Dickerson is a current member of the First Baptist Church in Virginia Heights in Pearisburg where she enjoyed serving the Lord. She was also a former employee of the Celanese Corp. in Narrows, VA. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Carol Dickerson Gray and husband Sam of Pearisburg, Jeanette Dickerson of Pearisburg, two sons, Danny L. Dickerson of Pearisburg and Stevie L. Dickerson and wife Tina of Blacksburg, three grandchildren Michael L. Dickerson of Pearisburg, Ashley N. and Sierra R. Dickerson of Blacksburg, two sisters, Margaret Armistead of Washington, DC, Ruth Anderson of Rich Creek, and several nieces and nephews. STEWART, RUTH ELLEN McCORMICK, 80 of Narrows, formally of Pearisburg, went to be with the Lord early Thursday morning January 11, 2007 at Bland County Nursing Home in Bastian, VA. Mrs. Stewart was born on September 15, 1926 in Waiteville, WV and was a daughter of the late Roy and Kate McCormick. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Ronnie Stewart, two brothers, Earl B. and Richard McCormick and one sister, Norine Charlton. Mrs. Stewart is a member of Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead, VA. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, M. Darmon Stewart of Narrows, one son and daughter-in-law, David and Alice Stewart of Pearisburg, one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Tony Parcell of Narrows, daughter-in-law, Garnette Stewart of Roanoke, one sister and brother-in-law, Alma Jo & Wilbur Cheatham of Bon Air, VA, 4 grandchildren, Brent Stewart of Blacksburg, Nicholas Stewart of Pembroke, Adrian and Emily Parcell of Narrows and 5 step-grandchildren.
