Freddy Wysor Shrader

SHRADER, FREDDY WYSOR., 70 of Ripplemead VA. passed away suddenly at his home, Friday, November 4, 2005. Mr. Shrader was born on October 19, 1935 in Chapel, VA., ( Giles County ) and was a son of the late Fredrick and Lexie Raynes Shrader. He was an Army Veteran, a member of the First Christian Church in Pearisburg where he served as deacon and treasurer for many years. He owned and operated Shrader’s Service Station for 40 years in Pearisburg. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Bobby and Bo Shrader. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyce Bowles Shrader of Ripplemead, two sons and daughter-in-laws, Freddy Wade and Debbie Shrader, David and Bendy Shrader, one daughter Sherree Shrader all of Pearisburg, four grandchildren, Jade, Trevor, Dakoda and Kiersten Shrader, two sisters and a brother-in-law Jerry and Marci Marcelynas of Delaware, Alice Faye White of Arizona and a brother, Billy Shrader of Maryland. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 7, 2005 at 1:00pm at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Bill Sleaseman officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Givens Funeral Home Sunday evening from 6 – 8 pm.

Robert Harrison Woods, Jr.

WOODS, Jr., ROBERT HARRISON, 80 of Pearisburg passed Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem, VA. Mr. Woods was born on November 5, 1924 in Pearisburg, VA and was a son of the late Robert Harrison Woods, Sr. and Margaret Hawthorne Woods. Mr. Woods was a combat veteran of the U.S. Army in WWII and was a recent resident of the Veterans Care Center in Salem, VA. He retired in 1986 from the Radford Arsenal Plant in Radford, VA after 32 years of service. Mr. Woods was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Gray Wheeler Woods, a second wife, Frances Woods and a beloved step-daughter, Sarah W. Kirby who passed away in 2001. He is survived by a son, Robert H. (Rob) Woods, III and his wife, Brenda Pack Woods, of Bridgewater, VA, a sister, Rowena W. Smith and Brother-in-law Everett Smith, Jr. of Richmond. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 25, 2005 at 11:00am at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. C. Edward Pruitt, Harrisonburg District Superintendent, The United Methodist Church, officiating with burial with Military Honors by the VFW Post #6000 following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 – 7:30 pm at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions to: the American Diabetes Association, Virginia. Roy C. Bayless

BAYLESS, ROY C., 66 of Pearisburg, VA passed away Thursday, September 1, 2005 at his home. Mr. Bayless was born on January 4, 1939 in Talbott, TN and was the son of the late James Thomas Bayless and Viola Ward Bayless. Mr. Bayless was a graduate of Carson-Newman College and received his Masters Degree from E.T.S.U. He was an U.S. Navy Veteran, a former high school teacher, and football coach for 14 years. Mr. Bayless then sold Insurance for Virginia Farm Bureau in the Pearisburg office and retired after 26 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Norton Bayless of Pearisburg, one son and daughter-in-law, Brad Bayless and wife Christy of Pinehurst, NC, two daughters and son-in-laws, Lesa B. Mabe and husband Les of Fincastle, Amy B. Harris and husband Andy of Troutville, Mother-in-law, Pauline H. Norton of Jefferson City, TN, 6 grandchildren, Braylin, Aftyn, Culley, Addalie, Delaney and Wyatt. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, September 4, 2005 at 2:00pm at the Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead with Rev. Shahn Wilburn officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg Saturday evening from 6 – 8 pm. Carroll Snidow Martin

MARTIN, CARROLL SNIDOW, 89 of Pearisburg died Monday, September 19, 2005 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Mrs. Martin was born September 17, 1916 in Pearisburg and was the daughter of late William Bane Snidow and Sadie Slaughter Snidow. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Adams Martin, two brothers, William Bane Snidow, Jr., and John Temple Snidow and one sister, Phoebe Snidow Hargis. Mrs. Martin attended the College of William and Mary and was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Pearisburg. She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Martin Rader of Pearisburg, 2 grandsons, Christopher Patton Rader and his wife Rebecca of Christiansburg, Jeffrey Martin Rader and his wife Angela of Johnson City, TN, one granddaughter, Rebecca Rader Prather and her husband Scott of Raleigh, NC, 2 great grandchildren, David Martin Rader and Caroline Elizabeth Prather. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at 11:00am at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Fred L. Austin officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 pm at the Givens Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Christ Episcopal Church or the Charity of your choice.

Myrtle Stafford Perdue

PERDUE, MYRTLE STAFFORD, 86 of Pearisburg, (Bear Springs Community, VA passed away Tuesday morning, July 5, 2005 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Perdue was born on June 7, 1919 in Bear Springs, VA, (Pearisburg) and was a daughter of the late Kyle Stafford and Sadie Kirk Stafford. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, A. (Ken) McKinley Perdue, 1 son, Clinton Perdue and a grandson, Darren Perdue, 5 brothers and 1 sister. Mrs. Perdue was a member of the Wesley’s Chapel Methodist Church. She is survived by 1 son, Jeff Perdue and Nancy Weiss of Ripplemead, 1 brother-in-law, George Perdue, 1 sister, Ernestine Parcell of Rich Creek, VA., 3 grandchildren, Dean and Amanda Perdue of Trigg, Jessica and James Dick of Dublin and Jason and Amanda Perdue of Trigg, VA. and 6 great grandchildren, Cassie, Hayley, Austin and Alyssa Perdue, Skyler Lucado and Michaela Douthat. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 7, 2005 at 2:00pm at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Betty Roberts officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg Wednesday evening from 6 – 8pm. The family will gather at 816 Bear Springs Rd.

John Thomas Moye

MOYE, JOHN THOMAS, 79 of Narrows, VA passed away Friday night, July 22, 2005 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke. Mr. Moye was born on August 16, 1925 in Giles County, VA and was a son of the late Thomas Moye and Dora Dean Levitt Moye. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett and Virgil Moye and two sisters, Francis M. Albert and Shirley M. Ramsey. Mr. Moye was a WWII Army Veteran. He retired in February, 1986 as Assistant Chief of Police for the town of Pearisburg with 30 years service and worked part time as a Deputy for the Giles County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Moye was a member of the Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead, VA and a member of the VFW Post # 6000. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Wilson Moye of Narrows, two sons, Garland and Debbie Ratcliffe of Salem, Ron and Erika Ratcliffe of Troutville, two daughters, Connie and Danny Burton of Narrows, Linda and Rich Piasio of Wilmington, NC, one brother, Forest Moye of Madison, Indiana, two sisters, Vivian Akers of Culpepper, Hazel Brown of Martinsville, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 25, 2005 at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg at 11:00 am with the Pastor Tim Cline officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Sunday evening from 6 – 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pearisburg Police Department Scholarship Fund, 112 Tazewell St., Pearisburg, VA. 24134.

Rev. Emory H. Shaver, Sr.

REV. EMORY H. SHAVER, Sr. of Pearisburg, VA.I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, and I have kept the faith, sums up the ending of the life of Rev. Emory H. Shaver on August 23,2005 at the age of 87. Awaiting to join him in heaven was his wife of 63 years, Avis Shaver and Son in law Tommy Perkins. He was the son of George and Roxie Shaver. He was the last to join the family circle of twelve siblings. Leaving to cherish the memories of his life are his five children, Janette Perkins, Ann Pennington and Barbara Evans of Pearisburg, and Buddy Shaver and Brenda Williams of Pembroke. He was the Father in law to Gale Pennington, Brownie Evans, J. B. Williams and Liz Shaver. He was the grandfather to Denzil and Lucy Perkins, Cindy and Tony Williams, Jeff and Kim Perkins, Robin and Chris Williams, Patrick and Debbie Pennington, Philip and Yvette Pennington, Benjie and Heather Pennington, Timmy Wilson, Tammy and David Dent, B. J. And Lori Evans, Melissa and Michael Williams, Kim and Randy Landes, and Beth, Jason and Joshua Williams. Great Grandfather to Anna and Jane Perkins, Brilee and Aidan Perkins, Kaylee Williams, Katrina and Cody Pennington, Brandon Williams, Alex, Austin, Alyson and Alyssa Pennington, Chantry and Trent Pennington, Morgan and Madison Williams, Tyler, Taylor and Trevor Landes, and Heath and Natalie Wilson. A step-great-granddaughter Amanda Martin and husband Daniel and step-great-great-grandson Jordan Martin. Also surviving are three sister-in-laws, Hattie Matherly and Anna Lee Shaver of Blacksburg and Jean Phillips of Roanoke. Three brother-in-laws, Mason Lafon and Ed Jarrels of Blacksburg and Genis Phillips and wife Edith of Shawsville. Rev. and Mrs. Shaver were the founders of the Shaver Memorial Church, being pastor for 43 years. He was then made Assistant Pastor, and he preached his last four sermons in the church this month. After resigning, he was pastor of the Gold Bond Tabernacle in Gold Bond, VA., for five years. Through these years many lives have been touched by their lives. They leave for their family, community and town a “Godly Heritage”. We would like to thank all of the ones that helped us through the last two weeks of his life. Special thanks to his neighbors and friends, Nancy, Hospice nurse, Rachel DeVault, nurse and family friend and special son-in-law “nurse Brownie Evans. Celebrating his life will be on Friday, August 26, 2005, 2:00p.m. at the Shaver Memorial Church, 1007 Curve Rd., Pearisburg. Rev Allan Ledford, Rev. Joe Sifford, and Rev. David DeVault will be officiating. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., at the Church. Burial will be in the Birchlawn Burial Park I Pearisburg. In memorial, donations can be made to Hospice or the New River Valley Age on Aging.

Goodwil Williams Stafford

STAFFORD, GOODWIL WILLIAMS, 91 of Pearisburg, VA passed away, Thursday, June 09, 2005 in Bristol, TN. She had been making her home with her sister, Ola for the past five years. Mrs. Stafford was born on May 11, 1914 in Giles County, VA. and was a daughter of the late William Alexander Williams and Margaret Wallace Williams. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emory W. Stafford and a sister, Leta Pearl Williams. Mrs. Stafford was a member of the Wesley’s Chapel Methodist Church in Trigg, VA. She is survived by one brother, William Alvin Williams and his wife Louise, of Pearisburg, one sister, Ola Fair Williams of Bristol, TN and one nephew, Jerry Williams and his wife Margaret of Warrenton, VA and other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 11:00 am at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Dr. Gary Knapp officiating. Burial will follow in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends Monday evening at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg from 6 – 8 pm
