HARTMAN, David Matthew

David Matthew Hartman, Sr., 78, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord, Friday, January 30, 2004. He was a member of Mountain Pass Baptist Church, the Disabled American Veterans, V F W Post # 1264 and the American Legion. Mr. Hartman was preceded in death by a son, Malcolm "Gene" Hartman. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, June Barbour Hartman; children, David M. Hartman, Jr., Wayne M. Hartman and wife Sissy all of Salem, Richard D. "Ricky" Hartman and wife Crickett, Bonnie Sue Abernathy and husband Robert, all of Roanoke; daughter-in-law, Becky Hartman, of Bedford; six grandsons; three granddaughters; two great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; brothers, Walter H. Hartman, Jr., Burlington, N.C., William E. Hartman, Boones Mill; a number of nieces and nephews; and an extended family member, Clay Fravel of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2004 at Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, by the Rev. Ira Tolliver. Interment icon will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home. 366-0707

TAYLOR, Milton Merle

Milton Merle Taylor, 79, of Roanoke, died Saturday, January 31, 2004 in Salem. Surviving is a loving wife of 55 years, Louise B. Jenkins Taylor; and daughters, Nadine Taylor-Miller of Brockton, Mass., Debra Taylor Davis of Boston, Mass., and Gayle M. Taylor-Suttor of Boston, Mass.; and grandchildren, Adina, Alyse, Andrew and Austin, Suttor. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 from the Chapel of Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Va. {366-0707}, The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 554, Roanoke, Va. 24003-0554.

TIMBERLAKE, Elsie Gupton

Elsie Gupton Timberlake, 83, of 2701 Bluefield Blvd. died Saturday, January 31, 2004. She was born December 8, 1920 in Franklin County, N.C., and the daughter of the late Lula Sledge Gupton and Haywood C. Gupton. three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death. Mrs. Timberlake was the widow of Willard Timberlake of Youngsville, N.C. where she lived until his death. She moved to Roanoke, Va. in 1983 where she became a member of the Colonial Baptist Church. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon February 4, 2004 in the Youngsville Town cemetery in Youngsville, NC. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn T. Hammes of Roanoke, Va.; granddaughters, Amy Terry and her husband Bill, of Atlanta, Ga., Ashleigh Grubbs of Roanoke, Va.; five nephews and four nieces. VAUGHAN, George Louis

George Louis "Lou" Vaughan, 77, of Blue Ridge, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2004. Arrangements by Oakey's East Chapel.

WEEKS, Marvin Cooper

Marvin C. Weeks, 77, of Moneta, went to be with Our Lord on January 30, 2004. He was predeceased by his wife of 26 years, Rebecca G. Weeks and his first wife of 17 years, Mary Weeks Hartman; his parents, Ruby Mills and Alexander Weeks, all of Roanoke; a brother, Fred Weeks of Florida; and two daughters, Violet and Lynn Weeks of Roanoke. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Marion Leverets and Lamar Miller of Florida, Wayne and Linda Weeks, Ricky Weeks, Anita Henley and Mike Hale, Sandy Dillon, Melinda Goring, Curtis and Carol Weeks, Greg and Bobbi Bishop, Ross and Denise Bishop and Craig Green. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and his loyal friend, Punk in. He served in the United States Army from December 4, 1944 to December 2, 1946 as a Military Police Officer in WWII. He was also employed at Owen Fire Apparatus Company prior to joining the Armed Forces and returned after serving his country. He was retired from General Electric after 30 years of service as well as MPS Welding. He was also an active member of Charity Baptist Church. Special thanks to Sandra Ziegler, Fannie Gate, Wanda Osborn and Roger Graves of Bedford Hospice for all your love and support. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2004 at Oakey's Funeral Home in Vinton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bedford Hospice at 815 Summit St. Bedford, Va. 24523. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel {982-2221}.

BANES, Lucreasey Carver

Lucreasey Carver Banes, 91, of Little Creek, died Saturday, January 31, 2004. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons. Visiting Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

DAY, Rosa Lee

Rosa Lee Day, 78, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, January 30, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Benny and Louise Jefferies. She was preceded in death by her husband, Issac Day, son Robert and daughter, Barbara Day, brother and sister, Willie and Mary Jefferies, and a nephew, James Jefferies. She leaves to cherish her memories four daughters, Betty White, Patricia (Charles) Paxton, Shirley Day and Angela Day; a beloved granddaughter, Gloria Day; a host of other grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Steinweg and the Staff of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dwight Steele officiating. Interment icon will follow in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. DuVALL, Jack Roy

Jack Roy DuVall, 75, of Daleville was born March 15, 1928 and died at home on Saturday, January 31. He was a retired Building Contractor. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mary Wright DuVall, three brothers, Randy, Ed and Pete and his beloved sister, Ella Mae Pendleton. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Juanita DuVall; daughter, Patricia Dean and her grandson, Cameron Hatter; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Sheryl DuVall and their son, Jake Ivanovych DuVall; very special sister-in-law and her husband, Glenda and Bruce Jennings; brother-in-law Thomas Pendleton; faithful friends, Bobby and Geraldine Minter; brother and sister-in-law Sam and Rosie DuVall. Friends are welcome to call Sunday, February 1, 2004 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville, where a service celebrating Jack's life will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Rader's Chapel,Weather Permitting. DEHART, William L. Jr.

William L. Jr. (Bill) DeHart, of Childress, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2004. He was the son of the late William and Edna DeHart of Radford. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Barbara D. DeHart of Childress; son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Stephanie DeHart of Sterling, Va.; daughter, Lisa DeHart of Belspring, Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Andy Scheuerle; brother and sister-in-law, David and Laura DeHart; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judy and Roger Eubanks, and Jim and Vicki Dangerfield. He was an avid golfer, master chef, champion Phase 10 player, and an expert Sangria maker. Bill DeHart was widely considered the best Dad in the world. He was the very best Dad, the very best Husband, and the very best friend. He will be missed tremendously. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service, from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. at the church with Rev. Douglas Kanney officiating. HANSEN, Gerald A.

Gerald A. "Jerry" Hansen, 66, of Goodview, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2004. He was preceded in death by numerous family members. Jerry served in the U.S. Air Force Intelligence Security Division. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Diane E. Hansen; a son, Donald E. Hansen and daughter-in-law, Polly E. Hansen; and also leaves behind his beloved dog, "Sassy." The family would like to offer their appreciation to close friends, Mary Butenschoen, Phyliss Arrington, and Charles and Linda Peterson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fort Lewis Volunteer Fire Department or through memorial cards which will be provided at the visitation for Mass remembrance.
