Curtis Lee Parker, 68, of Christiansburg, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2004 at his home, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the Christiansburg Church of Christ with Mr. Dennis Curd officiating. Interment
will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military rites by VFW Post #1184. The Parker Family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, 328-2612.
PATTERSON, Theodore
Theodore Patterson, 73, of Floyd, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2004 at New River Valley Medical Center. He is survived by sisters, Mae Hickman McDaniel, with whom he lived, of Floyd; half-sisters, Mary Jones and Pearl Flacks, of Bluefield, W.Va.; half-brothers, James Hamlet and Charles Hamlet, of Bluefield, W.Va.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2004 at Mount Zion Christian Church with Rev. James Houchins officiating. Burial will be private. Maberry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

John Raymond (Johnny) Higgins, Jr., 45, of Lexington, died Friday, August 13, 2004 at his home. Mr. Higgins was born December 12, 1958 in Rockbridge County, a son of John Raymond Higgins of Lexington, and Bessie Mae Camper of Buena Vista. He was a member of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church. Surviving in addition to his parents is his wife, Elaine C. Higgins of Lexington; two sons, Joshua Raymond Higgins of Richmond and John Ross Higgins of Lexington; stepfather, Carl B. Camper of Buena Vista; stepsister, Sherrie Walls of Buena Vista; one aunt, Martha Vest of Lexington; one uncle, Reese C. Van Ness of Buena Vista; his special canine friend, Jake; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; other special friends, Jeffrey Vest, Eddie Hostetter, Larry Leech, Richard Ayers, Dennis Ayers, Nick Alberti, Johnnie Hall and Dot and Bub Mohler, all of Lexington. Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2004 in the Collierstown Presbyterian Church cemetery with the Rev. James A. Rohne officiating. Catherine Teresa Joyce, of Arlington, Va., passed away Saturday, July 24, 2004. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Thomas Joyce (Ret. Navy and Department of Justice), and the loving mother of Edward Thomas Joyce, Patricia Joyce Webster, Margaret Mary Joyce, Eileen Marie Joyce, and the late Kathleen Marie Joyce. She was the devoted sister of Eileen Larkin Bergin. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theron Lee Worrell, three sisters and four brothers. Armbrister of Wytheville, Theron L. "Jay" and Donna V. Worrell, Jr., Kenneth W. and Cindy C. Worrell, all of Max Meadows, Va., William E. "Billy" and Pat D. Worrell of Grove City, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; sister and brother-in-law, Lillian A. and Randolph Corvin of Wytheville, Va.; special friend, Helen Ingram of Max Meadows, Va. RADER, Millard H.
Millard (Matt) H. Rader, 81, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2004. Services will be held at 2 p.m. at Red Bank Baptist Church or to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 7044, Columbia, S.C. 29202-7044. Matt, born February 15, 1923, joined his bride of sixty years, Mildred Kersey Rader, in Glory on Thursday, August 12, 2004. Born in Advent, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert Matison Rader and Lola Georgianna Gandee Rader. He retired from the United States Postal Service and was a decorated veteran of the United States Army Air Corps and served with the 8th Air Corps Bomber group during WWII. Mr. Rader was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church and an avid artist, gardener, woodworker and guitar player. He was a gentle, good man with a marvelous smile and sense of humor. He loved his Savior, his wife, his children and his guitar. He is survived by his children, Connie Clark and husband, Larry, of Greer, S.C., Carole Carter of Columbia, Rick Rader and wife, Jeanette of Troutville, Va., and Roger Rader and wife, Linda, of Birmingham, Ala.; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Mr. Rader was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
