REED, Charles Eugene

Charles Eugene (Gene) Reed, 79, of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, December 12, 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie G. and Ora Reed; his wife, Joyce Lester Reed and his infant daughter, Karen Joyce Reed. He served in U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Baltimore, he and his father established Reed Lumber Company, Inc. February, 1948. He was a member of the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Connie Jean Reed Stoner and her husband, Kevin P. Stoner of Christiansburg; two grandsons, Reed Charles Stoner and William Eugene Stoner of Christiansburg; sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Bobby Hayden of Riner, June and Quinton Simpkins of Christiansburg, Joyce and Lonnie Slaughter of Floyd; sister-in-law, Janice Dickerson of Christiansburg; special aunt, Mary Z. Young of Pulaski; nieces, Jennifer and Frank Boothe, Sheree and Phill Madison, Susan and Scott Rardin; nephews, James Daugherty, Jr., David Simpkins, and Tim and Tracey Slaughter; grand nieces and nephews, Emily, Natalie and Chloe Boothe, Jason Lafon and wife, Whitney, Dustin Lafon, Tyler James Rardin, Landon and Dylan Simpkins, ShaeLee Slaughter; family friend, Mary Paul Craft; extended family of Reed Lumber Company, Inc. former and present employees. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday at the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 16 at the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church with Dr. Don Makin officiating. Interment icon will follow in Sunset cemetery. VIERS, Albert Joseph

Albert Joseph Viers, 65 of Allisoia, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2005. Funeral services will be held Sunday 2 p.m. at Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski.

CRIM, David Michael

Lt. Col. David Michael Crim, 81, of Lexington, died Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at his home. Born on September 12, 1924, he was a son of the late Jacob C. Crim and Behethland Fitzpatrick Crim. A native of New Market, Lt. Col. Crim joined the VMI faculty in the civil engineering department in 1951. Except for a leave to earn graduate degrees, he had been on the faculty for 39 years of service to the institute. He became an associate in civil engineering in 1965. From 1943 through 1948, Crim served as a platoon sergeant in the Army. He had entered VMI in 1941, and returned after his military tour to earn a degree in civil engineering in 1948. For the next three years, he taught at a Woodstock high school before joining the VMI faculty. A licensed engineer, Crim earned a master's degree at the University of Virginia, and was co-author of a 1958 textbook entitled Engineering Materials. He had served as an associate director of VMI's Summer Session as well as director of the R. A. Marr School Surveying, sponsored each summer at VMI. He was a grandson of Eliza Catherine Clinedinst, affectionately called "Mother Crim" by VMI cadets at the Battle of New New Market. David "Mike" Crim was affectionately called "Poppa Crim" by cadets he instructed at VMI. Lt. Col. Crim is survived by his wife, Madelyn Funk Crim of Lexington; two sons, Samuel H. Crim of Daphne, Ala., David C. Crim of Hahira, Ga.; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2005 at the Bethany Lutheran Church with Rev. Alfred Fogleman officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2005 in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church cemetery in New Market. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church, 1320 Bethany Road, Lexington, Va. 24450. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Arrangements by the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington.

DEHAVEN, Troy Wilson

Troy Wilson DeHaven, 93, of Hillsville, passed away December 12, 2005. Funeral will be December 17, 2005, 11 a.m. at Hillsville Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home.

FELTS, Odis Pierce

Odis Pierce Felts, 85, of Max Meadow, Va., went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, December 14, 2005. He was born June 20, 1920, son of the late James Walter and Elva Akers Felts of Max Meadows. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Company E 27th Regiment fighting courageously in the Guadal Canal and Northern Solomons Campaigns. His decorations and citations include the Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal with two bronze service stars. He served his community as the "friendly McNess Man" for almost 50 years leaving many loyal customers and faithful friends. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, James (Jimmy) Felts. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ina Elizabeth Felts; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rita F. and Randy Lilly of Willis, Va., Patricia F. Fleming of Max Meadows, Va., Sherry F. and Rick Yost of King George, Va.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Walter (Buddy) and Shelia Felts of Pulaski, Va., Nathan Felts of Max Meadows, Va. There are eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also survived by five brothers, Garland Felts of Woodlawn, Va., James Felts of Max Meadows, Va., Glenn Felts of Wytheville, Va., Eldridge Felts of Max Meadows, Va., Larry Felts of Dublin, Va.; four sisters, Juanita Ogle of Max Meadows, Va., Gloal Holland of Martinsville, Va., Lorene Thacker of Austinville, Va., Sherlene Akers of Alexandria, Va. Numerous nieces, nephews and a very special friend, David Coleman also survive. A celebration of his life will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, Va. Saturday, December 17, 2005 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Hal Lewis and the Rev. Don Crockett officiating. Interment icon will follow in the West End cemetery, Wytheville, Va. American Legion Post #9 will conduct graveside military rites. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2005 at Barnett Funeral Chapel. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, Va. is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Trina Irene Ramsey, 40, died, Tuesday, December 13, 2005. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2005 at Johnson Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Due to weather the family will receive friends Friday from 1:30 p.m. until service time at Johnson Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

WICKER, Sylvia Ortanze Nichols

Sylvia Ortanze "Ortie" Nichols Wicker, widow of Frederick Alexander Wicker Sr., died December 14, 2005. Mrs. Wicker was a homemaker and in later years a fitter for Miller & Rhoads and Montaldos. She was preceded in death by her son, Fred A. Wicker Jr.; and sons-in-law, Robert G. O'Hara Sr. and Wayne Thomas Jones. She is survived by her daughters, Jo Ann W. O'Hara of Richmond, Lee W. Lazarus and her husband, L.G. (Chip) Lazarus of Smith Mountain Lake, Sandra W. Sturgill and her husband, George of Locust Hill, and Denise W. Jones of Richmond; daughter-in-law, Phyllis S. Martin and her husband, Lee; ten grandchildren, Fred A. Wicker III, James F. Wicker, Betty Jo W. Combs, Chip Lazarus Jr., Bryce Jones, Susan L. Bailey, Anna Lazarus, Christy R. Casciello, Jay W. Roberts and Jessica Jones; also ten great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her extended family of Robert O'Hara, three children, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wicker lived at the Masonic Home for the past ten years. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road. A celebration of the life of Sylvia will be held Friday, at 1 p.m. at Westover Hills United Methodist Church. Burial will be private. Mr. Milton Carroll Wilmer, 80, died Wednesday, December 14. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 17 at the Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Loving Funeral Home.

BOGLE, Petty Ann Lawrence

Peggy Ann Lawrence Bogle, 68, of Salem, went to be with the Lord after she died suddenly on Tuesday, December 27, 2005. Mrs. Bogle was preceded in death by her beloved husband, H. Gale Bogle, her parents George W. and Ada P. Lawrence, and her brother Robert F. Lawrence. Mrs. Bogle was a lifelong resident of Salem, Va. and graduated from Andrew Lewis High School. She was an active member of the Fort Lewis Christian Church throughout her lifetime and served as church treasurer for many years. She was formerly a member of the choir and later served on the church board and numerous committees. She had been elected to be a church deacon in 2006. Mrs. Bogle was a very creative person and a self-taught artist who enjoyed writing poetry, painting, and songwriting. She will be remembered by many in the community for her faith, grace, and strength in dealing with the challenges of neuromuscular disease for over 50 years. Her positive attitude was an inspiration to everyone who met her. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony Todd and Cynthia W. Bogle of Daleville, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Trina B. and Randy S. Willard of Mechanicsville, Va.; grandchildren, Dustin Bogle, Allison Bogle, and Jacob Willard; sister and brother-in-law, Hilda L. and James M. Hilton; brother and sister-in-law, Billy R. and Harriette H. Lawrence; and numerous treasured nieces and nephews. The family thanks devoted friends, Connie Witt, Bobbie Morris, Nancy Willard, and Ann Barry for their significant contributions to her life and fulfillment, as well as the ongoing support of the pastors and congregation of the Fort Lewis Christian Church. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2005 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. CHAMBERLAIN, Robert Chester

Robert Chester Chamberlain, 71, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Alexander and Helen B. Chamberlain. Robert served his country in the U. S. Army, was a graduate of Ohio State University and Rochester Institute of Technology. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Arline M. Chamberlain; his daughter, Deborah Plunkett of Shawsville; granddaughter, Jennifer Vishneskie and her husband, Zachary; great-grandson, Noah Vishnekie, all of Shawsville; one brother, William H. Chamberlain and his wife, Jacqueline of New Jersey; his mother-in-law, Mildred Tomlin; sisters-in-law, Corrine Thackery, Marilyn Tomlin; and brother-in-law, Victor Purvis, all of Roanoke. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6to 8 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel, with a private memorial service to be held at a later date. CURTIS, Ellison Carter

Ellison Carter Curtis, 64, of Roanoke, peacefully slipped away on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at Salem Health and Rehab after a lengthy illness. He was born in Roanoke to the late, Hiram and Sadie Hairston Curtis. Ellison was employed at Norfolk and Southern for many years, and later became employed by Howell Motor Freight. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doretha V. Curtis.Those left to cherish his memory are nine children, Ellison Curtis (Leticia), Catherine Brown (Victor), Vivian Jordan (Michael), Joe Curtis (Carole), Doris Curtis, Deborah Mack, Tina Mason (James) all of Roanoke, Va., Pamela Curtis of Salem, Va. and Valerie Colson (Gerald) of Union City, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; former wife, Lula Curtis; special aunt, Dorothy Coffer of Montvale, Va. and a host of friends and relatives. Ellison will be sadly missed by his friends and family. The Curtis Family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Salem Health and Rehab. You went far and beyond to make sure that he had the best care. A special thank you to the staff at Lewis-Gale Medical Center (5th floor) and to all the friends and family who visited him while he was a resident at Salem Health and Rehab. On September 12, 2011 our beloved mother and sister, Myrtle Ann Noell passed on to eternal peace at her residence. She was born on February 24, 1941 to the late Ralph Wright and Eva Wright Wilson. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Violet Hairston and Angela Noell; son, Kennard Noell; grandchildren, Joseph Wright, Antwon Noell and Calvin Noell; great-grandchildren, J'Mya, Leniece and Tremaine; sisters, Ruby Price, Audine Lopez, Betty (Joe) Terry, Nancy Wright, Emma (Irvin) Williams and Gloria Lynn; brother, Stanley (Sherry) Wade; uncle, John (Eloise) Saunders; aunts, Janie Saunders and Edna Saunders; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2011 in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel with the Rev. Ivory Morton officiating. Interment icon will be in Williams Memorial Park. Dorothy Ann Bonds

August 19, 1938 - September 13, 2011
Dorothy Ann Bonds, 73, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. She was born in Bedford County, Va. on August 19, 1938 to the late Prince Sr. and Bernadine Tucker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bonds, siblings, Prince Tucker Jr., Bobby Tucker Sr., Laura Mae White and Ronnie Tucker. Dorothy is survived by one sister, Brenda (William) Hundley, of Richmond, Va.; three devoted and dedicated nieces, Loretta Wilson, Annie Saunders and Sandra Calenger; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held noon Saturday, September 17, 2011 in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel with the Rev. Mark Tucker officiating. Interment icon will be in the Tucker Family cemetery, Montvale. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Friends may call on Friday afternoon September 16, 2011 until 6 p.m. for viewing at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.

Henry Stafford Reynolds
October 25, 1928 - September 25, 2011

Henry Stafford Reynolds, 82, of Roanoke, peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Brother Henry accepted Christ into his life and was a “hearer” and “believer” of his Word.

He worked at Krisch Hotel in Roanoke, since the age of sixteen and retired at the age of seventy.

He was united in holy matrimony for fifty-nine years to Ann Bentley and to this union six children were born.

Henry was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins. He also enjoyed cooking and watching westerns and wrestling. Henry loved sitting on the front porch and waving to everyone, whether he knew them or not.

Henry was preceded in death his wife, Ann Bentley Reynolds; four brothers, John Mercer Jr., Richard Oliver, Lewis Allen and George Alexander Reynolds; five sisters, Sallie Mae Stuart, Alberta Elizabeth Reid, Ann Rebecca Jefferson, Barbara Jean Gaino and Moroline Joyce Reynolds.

Those left to cherish his memory are his stepson, William (Shirley)Bentley, three sons, Michael (Carolyn) Reynolds, Dwight (Lydia) Reynolds and Terry (Debi) Reynolds; four daughters, Sandra Reynolds, Judith (William) Young, Robyn Levesy and Priscilla Preston; one adopted daughter, Debora Stephens-Rashad; grandchildren, De-Wayne, Monica, Annah, Michael, Nikki, Kenya, Tracy, Michael Jr., Aaron, Brent, Dwight Jr., Darrin, Gregory, Terry-Wayne, Bryan, Brevan, Lamont, Mario, Markeia, Trevon, Todd and Byron; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; sisters, Marian (Leffy) Gray and Pauline Hale, brothers, Frank, Warren, Harold and Donald Reynolds; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
