Debra Yvette Sayles Stuart, 54, of Roanoke, entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 21, 2005 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Rehab. Debra was the only daughter of John M. Davis and the late Mattie Craig Sayles. Along with her mother, she is preceded in death by three brothers. She was a 1969 graduate of Lucy Addison High School, attended Virginia Seminary and graduated with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Virginia Western Community College. Debra was a lifetime member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Kingstown. She enjoyed singing and was a member of the Herman L. Word Community Choir. Those left to rejoice in her memory are a devoted and loving daughter, Tenita L. (Brian Powell) Stuart; the joy of her life, her grandson, Evan, all of Richmond, Va.; father and stepmother, John M. and Mary Davis of Roanoke, Va.; brothers, Gerald Sayles, Wayne Sayles and Kevin Sayles all of Roanoke, Va.; aunt, Carrie Johnson of Washington D.C.; uncle, William B. Davis of Potomac, Md. and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2005 in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel with Dr. Herman Word officiating. THRASHER, Ethel Osborne
Ethel (Deanie) Osborne Thrasher, 86, of Buchanan, passed away Thursday evening, October 20, 2005. Deanie had graduated from Fincastle High School where she was voted "Most Attractive". Her family, the late Henry and Christine Myers Osborne, owned a dairy farm in Fincastle where the Quickette stands today, Deanie was the last of thirteen children. She had worked for the National Weather Bureau in Washington, D.C. before her marriage to Samuel Lewis Thrasher, Sr. to whom she was married
for over 65 years. Mr. Thrasher preceded her in death on May 18, 2005. Deanie was also preceded in death by an infant son, Samuel Lewis Thrasher, Jr. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce T. and Paul Pillion of Buchanan; son and daughter-in-law; Forrest and Sandra Thrasher of Roanoke; grandson, Forrest Ryan Thrasher. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2005 in the Springwood Baptist Church with Rev. Guy A. Ritter and Rev. Harold E. Cook, Jr. officiating. Interment

Ruby Hazel Wimmer, 95, of Vinton, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 22, 2005. She was a retired LPN from Roanoke Memorial Hospital and was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Ruby is survived by two nephews, Michael W. Nevergold and his wife, Janice of Pearisburg, George R. Nevergold, Sr. and his wife, Barbara of Roanoke; two nieces, O. Page Wilhelm and her husband, Kevin of Pensacola, Florida, Gail Mabe of Fredericksburg; "grandchildren", Tana N. Benge, Michael H. Nevergold, Melvin E. Nevergold, Christy N. Pursel, Michelle N. Jolly, Lindsay Nevergold, George "Robbie" Nevergold, Jr., Laura Wilhelm and Joshua Wilhelm. STOOPS, Bridget Jacqueline Kittle
Bridget Jacqueline Kittle Stoops, 38, of Boones Mill, Virginia, formerly of Cameron, W.Va. was given into God's care on Saturday, October 1, 2005 in Gordonsville, Virginia as a result of an automobile accident. She was a wonderful and loving mother, daughter, and sister. She was born March 13, 1967 in Springfield, Ohio, the loving daughter of William B. and Margaret J. "Peggy" Fowler Kittle of Cameron. Bridget had been an employee of Beneficial Finance in Roanoke, Virginia for the past five years. She was previously employed by Avco Finance. She was a 1985 graduate of Cameron High School, and graduated from the Technical Education Center, Kissimmee, Florida and West Virginia Northern Community College in Wheeling, West Virginia. She also attended Belmont Technical College. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Stoops, on May 1, 2005 as a result of an automobile accident. In addition to her parents she leaves behind her precious 7 year old son, Cameron Robert Stoops, who was her whole life. A memorial service will be held at Glad Tidings Church located at 7422 Deer Branch Road in Roanoke, Virginia on Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Joe Copolo officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Mosier/Stoops/Smith Trust Fund in care of Glad Tidings Christian School and Day Care, 7422 Deer Branch Road, Roanoke, VA, 24019. Four children attending this school, including Cameron Stoops, were involved in this tragic accident. Two of the children remain in very serious condition, while another child died in the accident. These funds will be used to help Cameron and the families of the other children.

BUCKLAND, Mary Rebecca Morrison
Mary Rebecca Morrison Buckland, 90, went to eternal rest Saturday, October 22, 2005 at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek, Virginia. She was born February 26, 1915 at Rich Creek, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Margaret Cecil Morrison. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church at Rich Creek, a member of Lakeland Chapter #74 O.E.S. Narrows, Virginia and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 6000 Narrows, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman B. "Pete" Buckland, a daughter, Betty Elizabeth Buckland, sisters Geneva Defio, Bernice Woods, Mae Candler and Dorothy Thornton, brothers Paul, Walter and Benjamin F. Morrison and two sons-in-law, William Alfred Cook and Russell Allen Ratcliffe. Surviving are three sons, Sherman M. "Sonny" Buckland and wife Linda, David W. Buckland and wife Ann, and James B. "J.B." Buckland and wife Barbara, all of Rich Creek, Virginia; two daughters, Shirley B. Cook of Roanoke, Virginia and Scarlet B. Ratcliffe of Pearisburg, Virginia; two sisters, Hazel Williams of Atlanta, Georgia and Pauline "Polly" Fox of Ansted, W.Va.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, October 24, 2005 at the Peterstown cemetery, with Rev. James Pickett officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service. LOCKHART, Nadine Wolfe
Nadine Wolfe Lockhart, 79, of Covington, died Thursday, October 20, 2005, at her home. Mrs. Lockhart was born May 8, 1926, in Covington a daughter of the late Lawrence A. and Thelma Dickson Wolfe. Nadine dedicated her life to her music and taught many area residents an appreciation of music by giving piano lessons in her home for all of her adult life. She was a member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church where she had also served as organist and choir director for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norris G. Lockhart in 1984; a son, David W. Lockhart in 1999; and a brother, Lawrence A. Wolfe, Jr. Surviving are two daughters, Kathryn Crutchfield of Covington, and Christie McAvoy and her husband, Tom, of Blacksburg; one son, Robert A. Lockhart of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren, Angela Dressler of Covington, Chris Crutchfield of Covington, Georgia, Jennie McAvoy and Joseph McAvoy, both of Blacksburg; one sister, Dorothy Moseley and her husband, Ralph, of Baltimore, Md.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Cecil Ernest Mohler, Jr., 77, of Virginia Beach, formerly of Roanoke, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Earnest Mohler, Sr. and Pearl Smith Mohler; and his wife of 54 years, Virginia Gwaltney Mohler. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his brother, Leland E. Mohler and wife, Peggy of Henderson, Nev.; brother and sister-in-law, James E. and Dorothy Gwaltney of Roanoke; sister-in-law, Phyllis B. FISHER, William Council
William Council Fisher, 92, of Mansfield, Ohio, died Thursday evening, October 20, 2005. Following several months of declining health, he went to be with the Lord, from his own home, family at his bedside. He was born September 14, 1913 in Salisbury, North Carolina to Gus Broyles and Florence (Hucklebee) Broyles Fisher. He entered employment with the former Norfolk and Western Railway Company (now Norfolk and Southern Corp.). As messenger "GM" Telegraph Office, he was transferred to the Pass Bureau as Clerk, promoted to Assistant Manager and appointed to Manager of the Pass Bureau by President Herman H. Pevler. He retired with 43 years of service. William was a servant of Christ, not just in words, but in actions and in truthÉhe fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith! He was a member of Patterson Memorial Grace Brethren Church, Hollins, Virginia, and a former deacon and financial secretary to the church. William served as a former board member on the Board of Evangelism for the Grace Brethren National Conference, as well as a former secretary of the National Fellowship of Grace Brethren Men. His wife of 61 years, Dorothy Wray Fisher, preceded him in death on February 5, 2003. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dotty Lou and James Smith of Roanoke; his son, Stephen Wray Fisher of Mansfield, Ohio; his grandson and his wife, Robert and Kristina Fisher of Coventry, Rhode Island; a granddaughter, Lindsey J. Fisher of Cincinnati; a great-grandson, Andrew Fisher of Cincinnati; two half sisters, Dora Payne and Helen Bird, both of Roanoke. The family will receive friends Friday, October 28, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home, 1330 E. Main Street, Salem, Va. HICKMAN, Clarence Stuart
Clarence Stuart Hickman, 48, of Whitpain, Pennsylvania, formerly of Lexington and Buena Vista, passed away June 9, 1962. Mr. Hickman was born July 2, 1913 in Lexington to the late Clarence and Pearl Clinebell Hickman. He served in the US Army during WW II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hickman has since been joined in death by his wife, Bessie Whitesell Hickman; sister, Gladys Hickman Gray; brothers, Francis C., Roy W., Preston W., and Raymond W. Hickman. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, James Stuart (Jimmy) and Deanna Ramsey Hickman of Richmond; sisters-in-law, Barbara Hickman of Richmond, Christine Johnson of Buena Vista, and Resa Hickman of Glouchester; and several nieces and nephews. Though many years may have passed since Mr. Hickman's death and after many years of searching, he has been found.
