James Edward (Eddie) Petty, 64, of Natural Bridge Station, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2005. Eddie had retired from Burlington Industries in Glasgow after 25 years service. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Petty and Alma Mae Thompson Petty; brother, Sammy Petty; and sister, Sue Staton. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Thelma Manley Petty; stepdaughters, Sandra Southers of Buena Vista, Janet Powell of Natural Bridge, Kathy Darling of Monroe; brother, Danny Petty of Rich Patch; sister, Jeannette P. Dunman of Buchanan; and several special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2005 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with Chaplain Donald Staton officiating. Interment

Thomas Dale Welcher, 52, of Richmond, formerly of Elliston, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 5, 2005. He was employed by Mulch King, LLC in Richmond as a Manager of Offsite Grinding Operations. He was predeceased by his parents, James Paul and Mabel Harris Welcher; and a brother, Nash Randolph Welcher. Surviving family includes sons, Christopher D. Welcher of Roanoke and Michael James Welcher of Ashburn, Va.; grandchildren, Alexis and Chase; former spouse, Jennifer W. Phillips; brothers and sister-in-law, David and Martha Welcher, Joseph P. Welcher, all of Elliston; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeanette Rorrer of Elliston, Brenda W. and Claude Dickerson of Mineral, Va., Debbie W. and Glenn Kanode of Salem; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Bobby G. Geary, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith;
66, of Roanoke, made his peaceful transition, after a brief battle with leukemia, to join his grandfather, parents and other loved ones on Saturday, December 11, 2004, surrounded by his loving wife, Peggy, children, Angela, Lisa, and Mark, and cherished granddaughter, Jenny. He was a dedicated Roanoke City Firefighter and EMT for 38 years, a Boy Scout Leader for 15 years, loved to play golf with his buddies and go to Pinehurst, N.C. each year. Bobby was a naturalist in tune with animals and nature. His joy for the last 6 years was his granddaughter, Jenny. In addition to his wife, children and granddaughter, he is survived by his brother, Richard; sister, Peggy; very dear friends, Carol and Skeezie Runyon; and numerous close friends with the Roanoke City Fire Department, Hollins University and his golf buddies. He will be sadly missed. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at Oakey's East Chapel with the Rev. Diane Scribner Clevenger officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home before the service.

He had ways of making you feel special by being a good listener and friend. He is loved by many and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his father, Elijah W. Traylor. Karl H. Dede, 68, of Boones Mill, passed away, Thursday, December 9, 2004. He was a native of Germany, a former employee of Grumman Corp., and took pride and enjoyment in producing custom wood products for customers locally, across the U.S., and internationally. Karl was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather and enjoyed special times with friends and neighbors of the Boones Mill community. He was preceded in death by his sister, Anke Hoffman and is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Helen C. Dede; one daughter and son-in-law, Lori D. and Ronnie Norris of Spartanburg, S.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Edgar K. and Jennifer Dede of Manassas; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Norris, Isabella Dede, Sophia Dede; two grandsons, Collin Norris, Mitchell Dede; one brother-in-law, Manfred Hoffman and family; two nieces, Martina Wottka and family, and Stephanie Goerke and family, all of Germany.
