Robert Wayne Couch

Services for Robert Wayne Couch will be held at 2 p.m. this afternoon at Teague Funeral Home with burial in Riverview cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family re-quests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Calvin Lucian Goff

Calvin Lucian Goff, 68, of Faber, died Friday, July 5, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Born June 6, 1934, he was a son of the late Dabney H. Goff and Julia Phillips Goff.

He was a retired merchant, having owned and operated Goff's Grocery and Service Station at Faber for more than 20 years. For many years he worked in timber and logging and had a great fondness for his cattle that he raised and loved. He was a member of Adial Baptist Church.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Louise Moyer, Margaret Pace, and Mattie Thompson, and one brother, James Dillard Goff.

He is survived by his wife, Daisy Knight Goff; one daughter, Darlene Goff of Faber; one son, John Calvin Goff of Charlottesville; two sisters, Bertha Weeks of Charlottesville, and Amanda Phillips of Richmond; three brothers, Howard Goff of Charlottesville, and Gilbert and Melvin Goff, both of Faber; and sister-in-law, Frances Goff of Charlottesville.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Adial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Evan Johnson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Johnny Hartless. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.

The family suggests that memorials take the form of contributions to Nelson County Rescue Squad, Faber, Va. 22938.

Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, Lovingston, is in charge of arrangements.

Edmund M. Kardys

Edmund M. Kardys, 81, of Albemarle County, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at home.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; his daughter, Cynthia, and her husband, Lee; his son, Michael and his wife, Paula; his son, Matthew, and his wife, Candy; grand-children, Kara, Adam, Heather, and Tiffany; great-grandson, Kody; his sisters, Stella, Mae, and Ceil; and many nieces and nephews.

Born Sept. 9, 1920, in Burlington, N.J., he was the son of the late Michael and Rose Kardys. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. George's Catholic Church, Scottsville Road, Scottsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. George's Catholic Church, Scottsville, Va. 24590.

Agnes S. Lyon

A graveside service for Agnes S. Lyon will be held at 3 p.m. this afternoon at Graham cemetery, with the Rev. John Storey officiating.

Preddy Funeral Home, Orange, is in charge of arrangements.

John G. McCrory II

John Graham McCrory II, 79, of Charlottesville, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, in a local nursing home.

Born Dec. 21, 1922, in Pitts-burgh, he was the son of the late Van and Helen Thompson McCrory. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Alicia Ix McCrory; a daughter, Mary Lisa McCrory; and a son, John Graham McCrory III.

He served in the Marines during World War II and was a graduate of Woodberry Forest and attended UVa. He was the owner of McCrory Insurance Agency, a member of Farmington Country Club, SAR, and Rotary Club. He was also a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Stafford McCrory of Charlottesville; his daughters, Clara Eyler and Catherine Rowley, both of Vermont; his sister, Jane McCrory; two stepsons, Henry Allen Lee and William E. Lee, both of Charlottesville; a stepdaughter, Barbara Lee Horn of Charlottesville; and three grandchildren, Matthew Hubbard, David Eyler, and Robert Eyler.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday morning at the Hill & Wood Chapel, with Father Glenn Spencer officiating. Interment icon will follow in Monticello Memory Gar-dens.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, Va. 22911 or to Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center, 2270 Ivy Rd., Charlottesville, Va. 22903.

Cecil Scott Slaughter

Cecil Scott "Scott Boy" Slaughter, 57, of Bremo Bluff, died Friday, July 5, 2002, at his home. He was born April 21, 1945, in Richmond, the son of the late Cecil B. Slaughter and Eloise Burgess Slaughter.

Scott was a devoted, loving, and tender husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted wife, Judy Slaughter; a brother, Stephen B. Slaughter of Mechanicsville; a daughter, Sandy Gentry and her husband, Greg; three sons, Ricky Woods and his wife, Debbie, Gary Woods and his wife, Marnie, and Barry Woods, all of Bremo Bluff; seven wonderful grandchildren, Michael and Morgan Gentry, Zach, Amanda, Lexie, Dus-tin, and Taylor Ann Woods; and special friends, Cheryl Hensley and her son, Kevin, of Scottsville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday afternoon from the Fork Union Baptist Church, with internment in the Fork Union Baptist Church Memorial cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday evening at the Fork Union Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Scott's memory to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, Va. 22911.

James Dewart Clark

James Dewart Clark, 101, of Proffit, died Friday, July 5, 2002, at Winterhaven of Charlottesville. Born May 28, 1901, in Meadow Lea, Saskatchewan, Canada, he was the son of the late James Henry and Eliza Dewart Clark.

He was a farmer and co-owner of Bentivar Farm until his retirement in 1958.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Eric, and John, and two sisters, Olive Tumah and Annie Barrett.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their extended families.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Monticello Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Sidney Craig officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. this evening at Hill & Wood Funeral Home.

Elsie Wyant Dean

Elsie Wyant Dean, 90, of Char-lottesville, died Friday, July 5, 2002, in a local nursing home. Born Sept. 28, 1911, in Elkton, she was the daughter of the late Frank Wyant and Betty Hensley Wyant.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ollie B. Dean; two brothers, Kemper Wyant and Lurtie Wyant; and three sisters, Minnie Wendt, Alma Bender, and Marie Dean.

Mrs. Dean was a member of the Barboursville Methodist Church. She also enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include three sons, Elwood B. Dean and his wife, Madeline, of Charlottesville, Denson B. Dean and his wife, Patricia, of Barboursville, and Burl J. Dean and his wife, Estelle, of Keswick; a brother, Winfred Wyant of Quinque; and six grandchildren, Edward B. Dean and Jeffrey S. Dean, both of Charlottesville, Barry A. Dean and Robert B. Dean, both of Barboursville, Ricky S. Dean of Louisa, and Melinda Dean.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Holly Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Kenny Barrow officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at Hill & Wood Funeral Home.

Contributions may be made to the Charlottesville/Albemarle Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 160, Charlottesville, Va. 22902.

Mary Lee Hitt

Memorial services for Mary Lee Hitt will be held at 3 p.m. this after-noon at Preddy Funeral Chapel, Madison, conducted by Pastor William Payne.

Louise E. Marshall

Louise Eubank Marshall, 87, of Scottsville, departed this life Thurs-day, July 4, 2002, at her home surrounded by her church family.

She was born July 11, 1914, daughter of the late Hal H. and Bessie L. Eubank. She was the wife of the late Earl D. Marshall.

She is survived by one brother, William Early Eubank of Fredericksburg, and two half-brothers, Joseph Eubank and Hall Jr. Eubank of Texas.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Eubank, Cody Edward Eubank, and Jack H. Eubank, and four sisters Lolia Carver, Lorene Gibson, Gracie Amos, and Violet Birkhead.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. this afternoon at Fluvanna Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Marshall requested donations be made to Fluvanna Baptist Church Building Fund, Route 2 Box 4711, Scottsville, Va. 24590.

Edgar V. Mitchell

Edgar V. Mitchell, 84, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 5, 2002.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving as a pilot. He served as a Southern Baptist Pastor, starting his ministry in 1966, and served several Baptist churches.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister; and a granddaughter.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Ruth Mitchell of Roanoke; sons and daughters-in-law, Edgar V. Mitchell II and Brenda, of Morristown, Tenn., Ginger and Robert Spencer, of Roanoke, David and Myrna Mitchell, of Fresno, Calif., Robert and Tina Mitchell, of Wytheville, and Rick and Melinda Mitchell, of Bristol, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Monica Mitchell, Heather Spencer, Tiffany Mitchell, Adam Spencer, Jessica Mitchell, Charles Edgar Mitchell, Nick Mitchell, and Andrew Mitchell.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Cave Spring Baptist Church, with Pastor Ross Terry, Pastor Glen Pearce, and Pastor Jim Reeves officiating. Interment icon will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.

Friends may call at from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening Oakey's South Chapel, Roanoke.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Clear Creek Bible College, Pineville, Ky., for the Edgar Mitchell Family Scholarship.

William Linwood Vest

William Linwood Vest, 79, of Charlottesville, departed this life Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Albemarle County, the son of the late Clarence and Clara Williams Vest.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mable Vest; two sisters, Ethel Beth Alfred and Elizabeth Vest; and two brothers, James Vest and John Vest.

He leaves to cherish his memories, one daughter, Linda M. Vest of Colesville; one son, Robert Linwood Vest of Columbia, S.C.; two broth-ers, Charles Vest of North Garden; and Theodore Vest of Charlotteesville; one sister, Georgia Alexander of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren, Teresa Dowell-Vest of Charlottesville, LaShawn Henderson of Mason, Ohio, Robert L. Vest Jr., and William Vest, both of Columbia, S.C.; one great-grandchild, Cordasia Henderson of Mason, Ohio; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning in the Chapel of the J.F. Bell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Angus Arrington officiating. Interment icon will follow in the Zion Baptist Church cemetery, North Garden.

J.F. Bell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elbert G. Williams

Elbert Moncure Goodwin "Billie" Williams, 82, widow of the Rev. Peyton Randolph Williams, former rector of McIlhaney Parish, died Monday, July 1, 2002, at the Friends House in Sandy Spring, Md. Mrs. Williams was born in Williamsburg to Blanche Elbert Moncure Goodwin and the Rev. Frederick Deane Goodwin, Bishop of Virginia.

She was a lifelong lover of music and an enthusiastic member of the choir at a number of her husband's churches. While in Charlottesville, she was a much-appreciated member of the staff of the University of Virginia Hospital Ladies' Auxiliary in the Family Lounge, comforting and assisting the families of those in surgery. Her compassion and empathy touched many people in need of her special brand of caring.

Survivors include one brother, Frederick Deane Goodwin of Scotland, Ark.; three daughters, Maria Goodwin-Williams Bradley of Laytonsville, Md., the Rev. Catherine Murat Williams Swann of Virginia Beach, and Cyane Dandridge Williams of Charlottesville; two sons, Peyton Randolph Williams of Burke, and Frederick Deane Goodwin Williams of Springfield; five granddaughters; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her younger brother, Edward LeBaron "Bish" Goodwin, and her grandson, Timothy Peyton Bradley.

A memorial service and interment will be held at noon Saturday at Yeocomico Episcopal Church, Tucker Hill.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, High Hopes, in Richmond, the American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society.

Tavion A. Carter

Tavion A. Carter entered into eternal rest Thursday, July 4, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Tiffany Carter; his loving and devoted guardians, Michael and Frances Carter; five sisters, Shareka, Darleen, Tanza, Keshia, and Lawanda; three brothers, Curtis, Michael, and Tramaine; his maternal grandparents, Pam Carter and Henry Rush; his paternal grandparents, Lewis and Gertrude Towns; great-aunt and great-uncle, Carlee and Doreen Jacques; and a host of other beloved relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in Oakwood cemetery.

Services of comfort are entrusted to the staff of McClenny Funeral Service Inc. R.B. and Doris A. McClenny, morticians.
