A service in celebration of the life of Anne Herron Johnson will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at Christ Church Glendower, near Keene.
Thurman I. Johnson
Thurman Isaac Johnson, 87, of Kents Store, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, in the Louisa Healthcare Center.
He was born April 6, 1915, in Fluvanna County, son of the late Isaac and Mattie Brice Johnson. He was the widower of Bessie Johnson.
Thurman was a member of Byrd Grove Baptist Church and a retired employee of the Arlington School System.
He is survived by one brother, Forest Lee Johnson of Kents Store; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Byrd Grove Baptist Church. Interment
will follow in the Johnson Family cemetery, Kents Store. The Rev. Johnson will officiate.

Barbara Morris Jordan
Barbara Ann Morris Jordan, 66, of Kents Store, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at her home.
She was born Nov. 16, 1935, in Fluvanna County, daughter of the late Harry Walker Morris and Harriett Lucille Kirkpatrick Morris.
Barbara was a graduate of the 1957 Class of Johnston Willis Nursing School and a retired R.N. She was a member of Byrd Chapel United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her beloved husband, O. Burgess Jordan of Kents Store; one daughter, Susan Jordan-Fell and her husband, Donald, of Atlanta; three sons, Edwin B. Jordan and his wife, Elizabeth, of Tallahassee, Fla., Jay Morris Jordan and his wife, Cheryl, of Kents Store, and Henry C. Jordan of Augusta, Ga.; one brother, Milas Edwin Morris and his wife, Becky, of Glen Allen; and eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday morning in Byrd Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Jim Thornton.

Henry Randall Kimbo
Henry Randall Kimbo, 83, formerly of Somerset, N.J., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at the Trinity Missions Nursing Home,
He was born Feb. 26, 1919, in Profitt, the son of the late Isaiah Kimbo and Helen Fleming Kimbo.
Henry married
the late Margaret W. Kimbo in 1941. They were married
for 47 years until the time of her death.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Isaiah; and one sister, Helen.
Henry was baptized at an early age at Evergreen Baptist Church in Proffit. He was a member of the deacon board, trustee board, and superintendent of the Sunday School. Henry was always involved with church building renovations, as he loved his church. He was deacon emeritus at the time of his death.
Henry was educated in the Albemarle County school system. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, where he became a sergeant during World War II, until his honorable discharge in 1950.
Henry worked at Union Carbide in New Jersey before moving back to Virginia, where he became a self-employed contractor for many years and retired as a supervisor for the Albemarle Housing Improvement Program Inc.
He was a member of the FAAY Masons Prince Hall Origin, Pride of Virginia Lodge No. 122,
His survivors include one sister, Mary Frances Blakey; three nieces, Sharon, Janet, and Vanessa, all of New Jersey; two nephews, Isaiah Nathan of Virginia and Kevin of New Jersey; two great-nieces; one great-nephew; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at Evergreen Baptist Church, Proffit, with the Rev. Stanely Woodfolk officiating. Interment
will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.
His remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

William F. Lauer
William Frederick Lauer, 81, of Charlottesville, died Thursday, July 11, 2002.
Born Oct. 14, 1920, in New Rochelle, N.Y., he was the son of the late Frederick and Marie Peterson Lauer.
Bill resided in Nanuet, N.Y. for 30 years. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps and receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Air Medals, and other commendations as a tailgunner on a B-25 Bomber in the Pacific Theatre.
He retired from the New York Air National Guard and the 105th Military Airlift Group in 1980, and relocated to Hampstead, N.C. where he was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathleen Lauer; his daughter, Diane Hansen and her husband, Edward, of Middletown, N.Y.; two sons, William Lauer and his wife, Phyllis, of Valley Cottage, N.Y. and John Lauer and his wife, Nancy, of Charlottesville; a sister, Jean Golden of Florida; five granddaughters; and one great grandson.

Doris E. Mathes
Doris Eyre Mathes, 88, of Charlottesville, died Thursday, July 11, 2002.
She was born Aug. 19, 1913, in Woodberry, Conn. She was a retired legal secretary and a member of the Church of Our Saviour.
Survivors include her husband, Carleton K. Mathes of Charlottesville; a daughter, Susan M. Frazier and her husband, Robert, of Free Union; three grandchildren, Matthew Priddy, Joel Priddy, and Mark Frazier; and a great-granddaughter, Sophie Priddy.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at Church of Our Saviour, with the Rev. Harold Hallock officiating.
Interment will follow in the church yard.

Thomas Earl Wharton
Funeral services for Thomas Earl Wharton will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Preddy Funeral Chapel in Orange with interment in Unionville Christian Church cemetery. The Rev. David Boston will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening at the funeral home and after the service on Saturday at the home of Jim and Lura Wharton, 11188 Marquis Rd., Unionville.

Thomas Paul Behrens
Tomas Paul Behrens of Charlottesville and Richmond, and formerly of Atlanta, passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2002. He was the son of Dr. Paul Everett Behrens and the late Edith Chisholm Behrens, of Richmond, and formerly of Charlottesville.
Mr. Behrens was a talented pianist and vocalist. A graduate of Lane High School, he started his musical career in Charlottesville as an organist for the Church of Our Saviour, and for years was the accompanist for the University League Cabaret.
Throughout his life he performed widely in Charlottesville, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C.
Survivors include his father and a sister, Diane Behrens Winslow of Chevy Chase, Md.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Church of Our Saviour Chapel.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Elk Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Louisa.

Edith Haney Crute
Edith Haney Crute, 92, of Hampton, formerly of Barboursville and Orange, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital. Born Jan. 18, 1910, in Greene County, she was the daughter of the late George Weeden Haney and the late Fannie Lou Deane Haney.
Her husband was the late William H. Crute.
She was a member of the Barboursville United Methodist Church and was retired from Sears Roebuck Co.
She is survived by two stepdaughters, Mrs. Richard "Margaret" Sissons of Deltaville, and Barbara Weiss of Hampton; one stepson, William H. Crute Jr. of Newport News; two brothers, Earl Haney of Stanardsville, and Ray Haney of Fredericksburg; one sister, Elizabeth Logeson of Monroe, Wis.; nine step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, including, J.B. Haney of Orange.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, L.F. Haney, Edward Haney, and William Haney, and two sisters, Clara Haney and Frances Yowell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday morning from the Preddy Funeral Chapel in Orange, with interment at 3:30 p.m. in Parklawn cemetery, Hampton. The Rev. Marylin Spencer and the Rev. Richard Sisson will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Charles Albert Foley
Charles Albert Foley, 90, of Charlottesville, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, in a local nursing home.
He is survived by his wife, Muriel S. Foley; one son, Mark H. Foley and his wife, Patricia; and his two grandchildren, Leah and Daniel.
Funeral services will be private.

Gladys C. Harrison
Gladys Lee Chandler Harrison, 68, of Washington, D.C., died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She was born Oct. 3, 1934, in Culpeper County, to the late Gillis L. and Gladys E. Morton Chandler Sr.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Harrison.
She was a retired housekeeper.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Scott of Hunnington, W.Va.; sisters, Mrs. Elnor Frances Tonge and Mrs. Irene Walker, both of Rapidan, and Mrs. Celia Ann Hanks-Rosedale of Queens, N.Y.; brothers, Gillis L. Chandler Jr. of Riverdale, Md., Lawrence Chandler of Orange, George Melvin Chandler of Rapidan, Jerry Sylvanious Chandler of Unionville, and Carl Chandler of Orange; two grandsons, Gregg and Wayne Harrison; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday morning at Walker Memorial Baptist Church, 13 and V St. NW, Washington, D.C. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment
will be in Ft. Lincoln cemetery, Brightwood, Md. The Rev. Reginald Green Sr. will officiate.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Satchell's Funeral Home in Orange.
