Jane H. Walls
Jane Huber Walls, 94, of Charlottesville, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at her home.
Born May 1, 1908, in California, she was the daughter of the late Nathan J. and Mary Mannon Higinbotham.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Walter S. Walls.
She was a member of The Greencroft Club; Albemarle Garden Club; and Christ Episcopal Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Katherine Goddard of Eastham, Mass., Ellen Smith and Marcy Forman, both of Buffalo, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Buffalo, N.Y.

Catherine A. Carey
Catherine Adele Carey, 70, of Unionville, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at her residence. She was born Feb. 12, 1932, in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Mamie Shirley.
She was a retired nurse.
She is survived by many cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at Orange Grove Baptist Church. Interment
will be in the Shirley Family cemetery, Unionville. Pastor Perry Moore will officiate.

Rosa Etta Goolsby
Rosa Etta Goolsby, 44, of Charlottesville, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002. Born Aug. 5, 1958, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Helen Morris Shaver.
Mrs. Goolsby was a member of Hardware Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Randy Goolsby; three daughters, Wendy Louise Hebb of Staunton, Crystal Eddy of Ruckersville, and Annette Pritchett of Charlottesville; four sons, Ricky Shaver of Charlottesville, Joshua Hebb of Richmond, and Marvin Eddy and Calvin Pritchett, both of Waynesboro; three sisters, Carolyn McCauley, Shirley Shaver, and Barbara Wood; one brother, Bernard Shaver Jr.; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at St. John Episcopal Churchyard.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening at the Teague Funeral Home.

Annie Jones Locker
Annie Jones Locker died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, in a local nursing facility. She was born Aug. 30, 1915, in Albemarle County, the daughter of the late Frank Jones Sr. and Annie Hughes Jones.
Mrs. Locker was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Jones Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one brother, Walter H. Jones Sr.; three sisters, Frederica Jones of Philadelphia, Ollie J. Brown and her husband, Lester Sr., and Maude J. Boykin and her husband, Horace Sr., all of Charlottesville; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning in the Chapel of the J.F. Bell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Alvin Edwards and the Rev. Kathleen Burnett officiating. Interment
will follow in the Holly Memorial Gardens.

Howard R. Mills Sr.
Howard Randolph Mills Sr., 87, of Charlottesville, passed away after a long battle with cancer Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at his residence. Born Aug. 18, 1915, in Beckley, W.Va., he was the son of the late Obie and Zoe E. Settle Mills.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, W. Richard "Dickie" Mills; three grandsons, Michael, Howard III, and Steven Mills; and a sister, Glenice Marie Minor.
Mr. Mills was retired from C & O Railroad with 36 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and the Brotherhood of the Railroad Trainmen.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Ann Mills; two sons, Howard R. Mills Jr. and his wife, Amanda, of North Garden, and Charles Obie Mills of Melbourne, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Nedra Mills of Richmond; ten grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Interment
will follow in Monticello Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Teague Funeral Home.

Walton D. Morris Sr.
Walton Davis Morris Sr., 76, of Earlysville, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at his home. He was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Orange County, son of the late Robert and Elsie Wood Morris.
After graduating from Crozet High School in 1942, he fought throughout World War II in the Pacific with the U.S. Navy and then the Marines. He was wounded several times in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He continue his military career after the war, managing regional medical laboratories in several posts and retiring from the Army after twenty years of service.
He then began a business career as one of the founders of National Clinical Services Laboratories, Inc., one of the nations first automated and computerized commercial medical laboratories. Later, he raised cattle, corn, and soybeans as the owner of several farms near Scottsville.
He is survived by his wife, Sophie Morris of Earlysville; one son, Walton D. Morris Jr.; one daughter, Gwynndolynn R. Berkowitz, both of Charlottesville; five grandchildren; and his brothers, Robert Morris of Crozet, and Ronald Morris of Burlington, N.C.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Richard Stewart and his staff, especially nurse, Beth Fitzgerald, and to the Hospice of the Piedmont, especially Linnea Thackston and Aida Chambers, for their kind care and support.

Lucille M. Morton
Lucille M. Morton, 91, of Stanardsville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at Evergreene Nursing Care Center. She was born Aug. 17, 1911, in Greene County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin S. Morton, and three sons, Benjamin Morton, Elmer Morton, and Ennis Morton.
She is survived by two daughters, Lucy B. Eddith and her husband, John, and Cynthia A. Carpenter, all of Stanardsville; three sons, Reginald K. Morton and wife, Barbara, of Williamsburg, Woodrow W. Morton of Richmond, and Robert J. Morton of Sandston; 31 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Morton worked at the Greene County Schools Cafeteria for a number of years.
She was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday at the Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. Harrison Williams officiating. Interment
will be in the church cemetery.

Betty Byrd Pittman
Betty Byrd Pittman, 69, of Charlottesville, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born June 7, 1933, to Marie Coleman Byrd and the late J. Raymond Byrd.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving and caring husband of 46 years, Edward Harris Pittman; her step-grandmother, Peggy Coleman of Orange; two uncles, Edward Coleman of Ohio, and Carl Byrd of Newport News; a cousin, Bill Coleman of Ohio; her in-laws; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A faithful lifetime member of Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church, Betty served her church in many capacities, including chairperson of Membership and Evangelism. She also helped coordinate the Community Health Fair, sponsored by the church, and the observance of the one-hundredth anniversary of the church.
Betty graduated from Lane High School in 1951 and worked 35 years with the summer session at the University of Virginia. Her devotion to the university was recognized in 1990 with the Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening at Hill & Wood Funeral Home.

Virginia Nelson Colvin
Virginia Nelson "Jenny" Colvin, 85, of Aroda, who had lived with her sister-in-law, Lillie Colvin, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in Madison.
Born Nov. 30, 1916, in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Lester O. Colvin and Sallie Carpenter Colvin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest M. Colvin and Leland S. Colvin.
She was a member of Walker's United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a sister, Odie Jenkins of Alexandria; a brother, Arthur E. Colvin of Rockville, Md.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Madison, with internment in Walker's United Methodist Church cemetery. The Rev. Bill Clayton and Pastor Toliver Utz will officiate.

Henry James Price
Henry James "Jim" Price, 73, of Charlottesville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Born Dec. 27, 1928, in Ithaca, N.Y., he was the son of the late Edward P. and Teresa B. Price.
Mr. Price was a graduate of Herndon High School in Herndon. In April of 1968, he completed the Dealer Executive Forum at The Chevrolet School of Merchandise and Management.
In 1968, Mr. Price opened Jim Price Chevrolet at Pantops Mountain in Charlottesville. In 1978, the business was moved to its present location, 2150 Seminole Trail, 29 North, where he expanded to include the lines of Oldsmobile, Hyundai, and Isuzu. In 1994, Mr. Price turned the management of the business over to his son, David Price, completing his dream of a family operated business, which remains active today.
During his business and retirement years, Mr. Price was very active in the business community of Charlottesville. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church; Virginia Automobile Dealer Association; National Automobile Association; The Better Business Bureau; and the Chamber of Commerce.
In 1993, Mr. Price was presented a 25 year award as a Chevrolet dealer from General Motors/Chevrolet Division. In 1994, he was elected to the Who's Who Registry of Business Leaders. In August of 1995, he was presented a Proclamation from the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors for his support and contribution in the successful completion of Berkmar Drive. In 1996, he was inducted into the Legion of Leaders Hall of Honor.
Mr. Price was a UVa sports enthusiast and very involved in the Student Aid Foundation. His financial contributions also extended to other organizations such as Children's Medical Center; The Curry School; American Heart Association; Ronald McDonald House; Virginia Firefighters' Association; Hospice of the Piedmont; American Cancer Society; McIntire Little League; Recording for the Blind; Virginia Special Olympics; The Falcon Club; The Salvation Army; Charlottesville Catholic School; St. Anne's-Belfield School; MS Society; Leukemia Society of America; The March of Dimes; St. Jude's Children's Fund; and numerous other organizations.
Mr. Price was an avid golfer and enjoyed many rounds with his friends at Farmington Country Club.
Mr. Price is survived by his wife, Pat; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Price of Charlottesville; his daughter, Sandra Creech of Richmond; his four beloved grandchildren, Jay Creech of Richmond, and Spencer, Brooke, and Patrick Price, all of Charlottesville; his two brothers, Edward Price of Fredericksburg and John N. "Jack" Price of Plymouth, Mass.; and his sister, Margaret Kubena of Pennsylvania.
The family would like to thank Dr. George Beller, Dr. David Haines, Dr. Kline Bolton, The Kidney Center, and Dr. Kenneth Ballew for their care and support during Mr. Price's illness.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. this morning at Church of the Incarnation, 635 Hillsdale Dr. Entombment will follow in Monticello Memory Gardens.
