Mable Easton Garrett
Mable Easton "Jane" Garrett, 84, of Charlottesville died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, in a local hospital.
Born Feb. 14, 1918, in Albemarle County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Lillian L. Davis Easton.
She was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.
She worked as an Assistant Voter Registrar for the City of Charlottesville for many years.
She is survived by two daughters, Melanie West of Charlottesville, and Diane Garrett and her husband, Joseph Kahler; her beloved grandchild, Leah Austin Kahler, all of Baton Rouge, La.; a brother, Philip E. Easton and his wife, Jean, of Charlottesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday morning in Riverview cemetery, with the Rev. Bruce Weatherly officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Elmer Cyrus Hammer
Elmer Cyrus "Syke" Hammer, 86, formerly of Willoughby Lane, Staunton, widower of Virginia Hammer, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, in Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Fishersville.
He was born July 18, 1916, in Bluegrass, a son of Luther and Esther Waybright Hammer.
Prior to retirement, Mr. Hammer was employed by ROCCO Feed Co. He was a member of Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church and was an avid horse show enthusiast and participant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife July 15, 1998; a son, Edward Mack Hammer, Nov. 2, 1995; six brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dice and Jo Ann P. Hammer of Greenwood; brother, James B. Hammer of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Christopher A. Hammer of Stuarts Draft, Felicia H. Dull of Waynesboro, Sherry H. Kesterson of Knoxville, Tenn., Terry H. Kasemeyer of Williamsburg, and Trevor D. Hammer of Greenwood; six great-grandchildren, Hunter Kesterson, Hayden Kesterson, Ryan Kasemeyer, Jessica Wheatley, Caleb Hammer, and Christian Lane Hammer.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday morning in Henry Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. John Mark Stanley. Entombment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Cynthia Henegar, 42, of Charlottesville, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at her home.

Florence B. Morris
Florence Beatrice Cowherd Morris died, Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002.
She was the youngest of 10 children born to the late Benjamin Franklin and Sarah Lucy Saunders Lewis.
She was educated in the Louisa County and Pittsburgh public school systems.
She leaves to cherish her life, three daughters, Ernestine T. Burns, Cynthia R. Morris, and Florence B. Reece, all of Louisa; six grandchildren, Maurice M. Burns of New Jersey, Mitchell E. Burns Sr., Ronnette M. Alston, both of Louisa, Jermaine P. Reece, Randy Black, both of Bronx N.Y., and Crystal Morris of Louisa; five great-grandchildren, Mitchell E. Burns Jr., Phillip S. Alston II, Gary Lee White Jr., all of Louisa, Ranasia Black of Bronx, N.Y., and Zaire Morris of Louisa; one son-in-law, Phillip Reece of Louisa; one daughter-in-law, Jean A. Morris of Louisa; one granddaughter-in-law, Christy Burns of Louisa; two brothers-in-law, Joseph Morris and Henry Jackson, both of Louisa; one sister-in-law, Louise Jackson of Charlottesville; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Ernest Cowherd and Jesse I. Morris; her only son, Specialist four Ronald L. Morris, U.S. Army; and all of her siblings.
Also cherishing her memory are her caregivers from Hospice of the Piedmont, her nurse, Kelsey Stevens; her aides, Linda Payne and Aida Chambers; her chaplain, the Rev. Katha Bollfrass; her volunteer, Mrs. Rusty Childress; and other members of the staff.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Thomasson's Funeral Home Chapel, Louisa.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday morning at Wayland Baptist Church, Louisa. Her body will lie in state from 10 to 11 a.m.

Melvin Earl Snow
Melvin Earl Snow, 70, of Charlottesville, went to be reunited with his loving wife, Helen, in the arms of Jesus, Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at his residence.
Born February 8, 1932, in Greene County, he was the son of the late George Andrew and Effie Knight Snow.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Louise Snow; one brother, Cecil Snow; sister-in-law, Mary Snow; and great-granddaughter, Hannah Staton.
He is survived by three daughters, Nancy S. Shull and her husband, Charles, Gloria S. Singleton and her husband, Roger, and Teresa Snow and David Shull; three sons, Roger L. Snow and his wife, Vicki, Bobby G. Snow and his wife, Charlotte, and Melvin H. Snow and his wife, Cynthia; two sisters, Marie Morris, and Odele Smith and her husband, Marcus; three brothers, Marion Snow and his wife, Cecilia, James Snow, and Ralph Snow and his wife, Doris; ten grandchildren, Kenny Buttry and his wife, Jennifer, Charlotte Deane and her husband, Tim, Blanche Staton and her husband, Richard "Sparky", Roger Snow Jr., "BooBoo", Bobby Snow, Jr. and his fiancée, Nikki, Daniel Snow, Kevin Snow and his wife, Donna, Andrew Snow, Melissa Snow, and Tracey McCauley and her husband, Anthony; 16 great-grandchildren; a special son-in-law, Bobby Buttry; and a special brother-in-law, Ernest Shifflett.
Mr. Snow was a retired millworker.
An informal funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Whispering Hope Chapel, located at Christian Aid Mission, with Pastor Nick Sylva officiating. Interment
will follow in Riverview cemetery.

Lizzie Hill Story
Lizzie Hill Story, 84, a lifelong resident of the Statesville area, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, in Charlottesville.
She was a daughter of the late Samuel Thomas and Eva Britt Hill and was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Rufus Edward Story.
She was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane Story Mawyer and her husband, Billy, of Afton; a son, Edward Carlton Story of Walters; seven grandchildren, Joy Lambert, Gary Benton, Carl Story, Tracy Story, Larry Story Jr., Barbara Jo Story, and Mary Katherine Mawyer; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Lambert and Chuck Reed; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara E. Story.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Benjamin Story Sr.; a daughter-in-law, Paige P. Story; five brothers, William, Carson, George, Thomas, and Eppa Hill; and four sisters, Lina Sue Johnson, Christy Hill, Betty Vaughan, and Minnie Story.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon in Wright Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Hartman and the Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood cemetery.

Ethel Floyd Castle
Ethel Dawson Castle, 86 of Charlottesville, died peacefully at her home on Monday, Nov. 11, 2002.
Born April 24, 1916, in Campbell County she was the daughter of the late Flunroy W. and Sallie Carr Woodall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Garnett B. Castle; three sisters, Ruth McVay, Dorothy Woodall, and Mary Irby; a brother, Walter Woodall and a grandson, Steven W. Castle.
She is survived by a devoted daughter, Geneva Hensley; a son, Earl Castle both of Charlottesville; five sisters, Sarah Moore of Greenville, South Carolina, Frances Nickols of Hurt, Virginia, Trudy Rowland of Charlottesville, Edna Barnard of Altavista, Virginia, Katie Dalton of Lynchburg and one sister-in-law, Betty Woodall also of Altavista; five grandchildren, Bruce Hensley and his wife Kathy of Gordonsville, Lance Hensley of Mclean, Kevin Hensley and his wife Diane of Ivy, Velida H. Tyree and her husband David of Keswick; and Brianna Hubbard of Fluvanna; six great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three step great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Hospice of the Piedmont for the care and loving support shown to Mrs. Castle and her family during her illness.

Mabel Fischer Lipes
Mabel Fischer Lipes, 89, of Charlottesville, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, in a local health care facility.
Born in Hickory, N.C. on Jan. 16, 1913, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Etta Frances Propst Fischer.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by two sisters, Faye Ashworth and Gladys Bailey; and three brothers, Ralph Fischer, Clyde Fischer and John Fischer.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and worked at the University Baptist Church Day Care Center.
She is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Phillips and Kay Roberts both of Charlottesville; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in Oakwood cemetery with Reverend Sidney Craig officiating.

Blaine E. McIntyre
Blaine Edwin McIntyre, 79, of Fluvanna, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at his home.
Born April 25, 1923, in North Carolina, he was the son of the late Broadus and Mary Hardin McIntyre.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was retired as an educator.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret M. McIntyre of Fluvanna; a daughter, Patricia McIntyre Oleniacz and her husband Bernard of Great Falls; a son, Blaine E. McIntyre Jr. of Datil, N.M.; five sisters, Ray Wright, Madge Turner, Helen Irvin, Margaret Bromley and Jacqueline Green all of Shelby, N.C.; a brother, Gus McIntyre also of Shelby, N.C.; three grandchildren, Andrew and Joseph Oleniacz and Jessica McIntyre; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Carlton officiating. Interment
will follow in Monticello Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lois Swink Petcavage
Lois Swink Petcavage, 73, of Charlottesville died Monday Nov. 11, 2002, in a local health care facility.
Born in Austin, MN on Nov. 6, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Clarence Swink and Ruth Olson Swink.
Ms. Petcavage was a graduate of Winchester Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1957. She served the health care industry for many years and many positions, most recently serving the Outpatient Oncology Unit at the University of Virginia Medical Center since 1981. She was a member of the Cherry Avenue Christian Church where she was an active Choir Member.
She also was a member of the Oncology Nurses Society, a charter member of the National I.V. Association. She served on the Nurses Sub-Committee for Professional Education for the State of Virginia from 1977-1979, Chairman of the American Cancer Society, 1977-1979, served on the American Cancer Society Local Unit Board member in 1979, ONS Annual Congress, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1984 and the American Cancer Society Conference 1977 and 1987.
She is survived by her daughter, First Lt. Ann Petcavage, USAF of Albuquerque, N.M.; one son, Paul Petcavage of Lake Ridge; two sisters, Pat Larkin and her husband Gus of Albuquerque, N.M., Mary Petrin and her husband John of Hatteras Island, N.C.; one niece, Patti Larkin of Albuquerque, N.M.; one nephew, Nick Petrin of Hatteras Island, N.C.; and her best friend Joanne Sprouse of Charlottesville.
A funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at Cherry Avenue Christian Church with Mr. Harv Ayers and Mr. Stan Martin officiating. Interment
will be private.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. today at the church, prior to the service.
