Yerby Pannill Colom
Yerby Pannill Colom, 87, of Alexandria and Charlottesville, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002.
Mrs. Colom was born Jan. 9, 1915, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Joseph Blackwell Pannill and Edna Carlin Pannill.
In her youth, Mrs. Colom was a distinguished Shakespearean actress, who received rave reviews and was privileged to perform for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Following her marriage to the late Jose Luis Colom, the Director of Agriculture for the Organization of American States, she devoted her life to family and to helping advance the mission of her husband's technical and diplomatic career. She was considered a great beauty, whose picture often appeared in the society columns of Washington, D.C. papers.
Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Colom worked for the city of Alexandria as its Building Code Compliance Officer. She retired, after 25 years of service, in 1989. During that period, she was also active in the Little Theater of Alexandria as a technical and artistic consultant.
Mrs. Colom was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and sister, who was loved by everyone whose lives she touched with her kindness and grace. The overriding joy of her life was her daughters, whom she loved dearly and considered her greatest blessings. She will be remembered by them with profound love and gratitude for her many sacrifices and unselfish love throughout their lives.
Mrs. Colom is survived by her daughters, Maria C. Huebner of Charlottesville, Ines C. Ragland of Mechanicsville, and Cristina C. Miles of Franklin, Tenn.; two sons-in-law, Carl R. Huebner and John Miles; five grandchildren, Lisa M. Hill, B. Scott Hill, Rachael Ragland, Michelle R. Haney, and Anthony C. Edens; one niece, Marion P. Morel; one grandnephew, John Morel; one cousin, Nancy Munsey; and many beloved great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends.

Rhonda Lynn Farish
Rhonda Lynn Farish, 29, of Earlysville, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, in a local hospital.
Born March 17, 1973, In Charlottesville, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Farish Jr.
Survivors include her mother, Melva Wharton Farish; four brothers, Robert, Stephen, and Gregory Farish, all of Earlysville, and Mark Farish and his wife, Andrea, of Doylestown, Pa.; a sister, Sandra Ryan and her husband, Billy, of Ruckersville; a special aunt, Pat Farish; a nephew, Kyle Ryan; and two nieces, Chelsea Ryan and Gena Ryan, all of Ruckersville.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Hill & Wood Chapel, with the Rev. Ray Stark officiating. Interment
will be private.

John William "Billy" Glasco Jr., 40, of Louisa, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002.
He was employed as a mechanic at the North Anna Power Station.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Glasco; two sons, Josh Glasco of Mineral and Ryan Key of Louisa; his mother, Phyllis Glasco of Lovingston; his stepmother, Peggy Glasco of Troy; two sisters, Jodie Johnson of Chesterfield and Kathy Kober of Mineral; his maternal grandmother, Ethel B. Lacy of Orchid; and his mother-in-law, Della Musser of Louisa.
He was preceded in death by his father, John William Glasco; his maternal grandfather, Charles Hamilton Lacy; and his paternal grandparents, Richard Clyde Glasco and Katherine Loving Glasco.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Woodward Funeral Home in Louisa.

Tezzie Elva Hensley
Tezzie Elva Suter Hensley, 81, of Orange, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Culpeper Regional Hospital.
Born Feb. 13, 1921, in Lenoir, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. Bollinger and Pansy Craig Bollinger. Her husband was the late Fred L. Hensley.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Grace Shifflett.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Orange and was retired from American Silk Mill and Liberty Fabrics of Gordonsville.
She is survived by two daughters, Caroline Hoffman of Charlottesville and Barbara Timmons and her husband, Ashby, of Unionville; one son, William S. Suter and his wife, Diane, of Madison; three stepbrothers; six grandchildren, Tammy Shipley, Glenda Dudley, William Suter III, Stacey Timmons, Michelle Eutsler, and Shawn Timmons; six great-grandchildren; and a number of step-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Preddy Funeral Home, Orange.

Michael M. Hughes
Michael McKinnley Hughes, the 10-month-old son of Joda McKinnley Hughes and Cynthia Spicer Hughes of Stanardsville, passed away on Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, in a Charlottesville hospital.
He was born Dec. 19, 2001, in Charlottesville.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Stephanie Nycole Hughes of Stanardsville; his maternal grandmother, Sylvia Spicer of Stanardsville; his paternal grandparents, Kenny and Lena Hughes of Dyke; his great-grandmother, Geneva Morris of Dyke; and a number of aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, George R. Spicer.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today in Holly Memorial Gardens.

John Kirwan Jones
John Kirwan "Jack" Jones, 91, of Orange, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at his residence.
Born Oct. 29, 1911, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Gordon A. Jones and Eleanor Fannery Jones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Maclay Jones; his son, John Kirwan Jones II; and his brother, Col. Joseph A. Jones, U.S. Army (ret.).
He was general sales manager for James G. Gill Coffee Co. and retired after 30 years of service. He was also an Army Veteran of World War II, where he served as Lieutenant with the 69 Division.
He was a member of Mitchell Presbyterian Church; a member of Independent Masonic Lodge No. 138 A.F. & A.M.; Royal Arch Mason; Knight Templar; Shriner; a member of V.F.W. Post 2217; and American Legion Post 156, both of Orange. He was the former president and trustee of Graham cemetery Association.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Bailey Jones of Orange; one son, David Garrett Jones of Middlebury, Conn.; one sister, Mary Reilly of Ardmore, Pa.; one brother, Robert B. Jones of Ocala, Fla.; and one grandson, Michael David Jones of Middlebury, Conn.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Preddy Funeral Chapel, 250 West Main St., Orange.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Graham cemetery, Orange, with the Rev. John Grotz officiating. The funeral will be followed by a Masonic Service by Independent Orange Masonic Lodge No. 138 A.F. & A.M.

Bertha Mae Morris, 85, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Martha Jefferson Hospital.
Born Oct. 9, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Mannis and Diana Shifflett. Her husband was the late Elmer Morris.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son; a daughter, Lois Faye; two grandsons, Larry and Randall Shifflett; three sisters, Lizzie and Cennie Morris and Lena Hunt; and her son-in-law, Vernon P. Shifflett.
She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Shirley and Wilmer Shifflett, Eva Shifflett of Free Union, and Bernice and Kenneth Chapman of Stanardsville; four grandsons, Jeffrey and Wendell Shifflett and Scott and Brian Chapman; one granddaughter, Daphne Berkowitz; three great-grandsons, Brandon, Cameron, and Alexander Shifflett; five sisters, Ruby Garver of Scottsville, Mattie Morris of Charlottesville, Betty Marshall and her husband, William, of Batesville, Dorothy Shifflett of Culpeper; and Joyce Conley and her husband, Kenny, of Stanardsville; two brothers, Mannis Shifflett Jr. and his wife, Geraldine, of Dyke and James Shifflett of Mission Home; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Jean Dudley of Free Union.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
