Margaret W. Purinton
Margaret (Peggy) Walker Purinton died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Peggy was born April 16, 1915, to Dr. Thaddeus Walker and Irene Davis Walker of Walkerville, Ontario Canada.
Peggy attended Grosse Pointe Country Day School in Grosse Pointe, Mich., and Miss Hall's School in Pittsfield, Mass. She graduated from Smith College in 1938.
On April 1, 1941, Peggy married
John Alden Purinton Jr. They spent the World War II years in Washington, D.C., followed by 16 years in Wilmette and Winnetka, Ill., before moving to the Charlottesville area in 1961.
Peggy supported a number of environmental, artistic, and educational organizations through the Margaret W. Purinton Foundation. Other interest included personal finance, gardening, needlepoint, travel, bridge, and cats.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Anne Davis Purinton of Belmont, Mass. and Betsey Alden Purinton, (Mrs. James English), of Providence, R.I.; and three grandchildren, Peter A. English, Mary W. English, and Lydia P. English.

Armenio J. Ritacco
Armenio J. "Al" Ritacco, 87, of Charlottesville, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, in a health care facility.
Born in New Rochelle, N.Y. on Aug. 8, 1915, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose Sposato Ritacco and was the husband of the late Mary Jane Ritacco.
Mr. Ritacco was a retired civil service employee having worked for 30 years at Fort Slocum in New Rochelle, N.Y. and was a World War II Navy Veteran. Mr. Ritacco was also a member of the Elk's Lodge.
He is survived by his two daughters, Janis Travers and her husband, John, of Charlottesville and Marilyn Beladino and her husband, Richard, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; three grandchildren, Tara Travers of Richmond, Lisa Beladino of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Richard Beladino Jr. and his wife, Shana, of New Canaan, Conn.; three great-grandchildren, Richard Beladino III, Parker Beladino, and Kendall Beladino, his two nieces, Linda Ritacco of New York and Diane O'Connor of New York; and a nephew, Mark Coviello of New Jersey.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, in the Teague Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Lanham officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment
will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Alzheimer's Unit at Our Lady Of Peace for the wonderful care provided to Mr. Ritacco for the past four years.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Charlottesville Alzheimer's Association, 490 Westfield Rd., Charlottesville, Va. 22901.

Opal Leake Smith
A funeral service for Opal Leake Smith will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. today at the Teague Chapel, with Mr. Roger Browning officiating.

Calvin L. Anderson
Calvin Lee Anderson, 59, of Keswick, died suddenly Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at his home.
Born Sept. 4, 1943, in Springfield, Ill., he was the son of John C. and Mariette Lee DePew Anderson of Chatham, Ill.
He was a member of American Rabbit Breeders Association, Albemarle County Fair, First Night Virginia, and First Baptist Church.
Calvin served in The National Guard in Texas and was retired from Wachovia Bank.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 11 years, Linda Allen Anderson of Keswick; his children, Stefanie Lynn Wilcox, Steven Dwayne Anderson, and Scott Daniel Anderson, all of Richmond; his stepchildren, Ronald Scott Mallory and his wife, Heather, of Louisa, Shawn Thomas Mallory of Charlottesville, and William Thomas Mallory of Keswick; a brother, Terry Anderson and his wife, Jodee, of Sulpher Springs, Texas; a sister, Nancy Priepot and her husband, Jim, of Chatham, Ill.; his father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Eula Allen, of Charlottesville; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Susan Allen, of Arvonia; two nieces; two nephews; two great-nieces; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday afternoon at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Joel P. Jenkins and the Rev. John Green officiating. Interment
will be private.

Cheryl Wade Barnes
Cheryl Wade Barnes left for a new world Oct. 14, 2002, Columbus Day. She had suffered a stroke on Sept. 20, 2002.
She had more friends than could be easily counted, and was loved by all who knew her. She contributed to numerous charities, most to cure various diseases or to help animals.
She is survived by her son, Jay Witherell.
She will be greatly missed.
A "Bon Voyage" party will be held for her Friday at her house.

Martha H. Clark
Martha Henrietta Via Clark, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002.
She was born June 27, 1915, in Schuyler, where she had lived all her life. She was the daughter of the late Roy L. and Ethel Via.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Clark Sr.; two sons, Percy F. Clark and Albert A. Clark; a brother, Roy L. Via Jr.; and a sister, Halley V. Gallo.
Mrs. Clark attended Schuyler School and was employed by Uniroyal Tire Company, Scottsville, for many years. She was a member of Schuyler Baptist Church.
She was a special, loving, and supportive mother, and grandmother who loved her family dearly, and was their rock in tough times. She leaves a big hole in the hearts of all who loved and admired her strength and sense of humor.
She is survived by her two sons, James E. Clark Jr. and his wife, Gladys, of Charlottesville, and Ronald M. Clark and his wife, Mary, of Schuyler; her daughter, Barbara C. Marks of Charlottesville; two daughters-in-law, Peggy Clark and Eula N. Clark, both of Schuyler; one sister-in-law, Nell Via of Piney River; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two special nieces, Penny Knisley of Rockville, Md., and Diane Duncan of Fairfax.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville, with the Rev. Thomas B. Fowler officiating. Interment
will follow in Alberene cemetery.

Kenneth A. Dove Sr.
Kenneth Alvin "Kenny" Dove Sr., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Dove was born Sept. 30, 1932, to the late Benjamin A. and Quinte M. Breeden Dove of Arlington.
Kenny graduated from Falls Church High School and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in May 1961. He was retired from the Virginia Beach School System.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Peggy A. Dove of Virginia Beach; three sons, Kenneth A. Dove Jr., Jason A. Castle and his wife, Ambir, of Knotts Island, N.C., and James D. Castle of Barboursville; two daughters, Dorothy Prechtl of St. Mary's, Pa., and Debra Pritchett and her husband, Bruce, of Ruckersville; seven grandchildren, Bruce Pritchett Jr. and his wife, Theresa, Tanya Pritchett, Wendy Pritchett, Peggy Pritchett, Jaime Castle, Amanda Castle, and Wyatt Castle; one great-grandson, Damian Pritchett; and a brother, Leonard A. Dove of Ruckersville.
Kenny's family will receive friends and relatives from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday morning in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory, with the Rev. William Earl Stanley officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Hattie A. Gentry
Hattie Abernathy "Abbie" Gentry, 89, of Bridgewater, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Gentry was born Feb. 24, 1913, in Brunswick County, the daughter of the late Harvey B. and Hattie W. Abernathy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Grace W. Abernathy.
Mrs. Gentry received her nursing degree from UVa in 1936. She nursed for 41 years, 39 of those at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville. In 1946, she married
J. Anthony Grieco, who preceded her in death. In 1969, she married
Walter N. Gentry, who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Gentry resided in Charlottesville for 69 years and was a member of the First Christian Church. After her retirement from Martha Jefferson Hospital in 1977, she used her skills to help with Salvation Army blood drives.
Mrs. Gentry is survived by a son, James H. Grieco; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Grieco of Harrisonburg; a stepson, Robert Gentry; stepdaughter-in-law, Joyce Gentry of Charlottesville; three grandsons, Jay Grieco of Charlotte, N.C., Michael and Lee Grieco of Harrisonburg; a step-grandson, Charles Gentry of Charlottesville; a step-granddaughter, Roberta Newcomb of Mechanicsville; three step-great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Kate, and Will; and foster family members, Mildred Miller, Brian F. and Vicki Miller, of Charlottesville, and Charles and Carolyn Miller of Purcellville.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at Bridgewater Home.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the Riverview cemetery.

Shirley Mundie Harrup
Shirley May Mundie Harrup, 62, of Charlottesville, went to be with her Lord Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, after a brief illness.
Born Nov. 6, 1940, in Fluvanna County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Clay Mundie and Ethel Thomas Mundie.
She was retired after 30 years of service from the Blue Ridge Sanitarium as an attendant specialist.
Survivors include her husband of 30 years, James H. "Jimmy" Harrup of Charlottesville; two stepsons, Al Harrup of Amosville, and Johnny Harrup of Woodridge; two sisters, Louise L. Mundie and her husband, Floyd Walls Jr., of Charlottesville, and Barbara Ann Herring and her husband, Ollie, of Scottsville; three brothers, William H. Mundie and his wife, Rose, Kelley L. Mundie and his wife, Barbara, and Jessie C. Mundie, all of Charlottesville; three step-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hill & Wood Chapel. The Rev. Sidney E. Craig will officiate. Interment
will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.

Donna H. Hudson
Donna Houchens Hudson, 60, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at her residence.
Born May 5, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Robert Herman and Mable Louise Barnett Houchens.
She was the wife of Don Hudson for 40 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, J. Scott Hudson and his wife, Donna, of Lynchburg; a daughter, Leigh Paige Hudson of Hilton Head, S.C.; a sister Linda Griffin of Charlottesville; and a granddaughter, Hannah Taylor Hudson.
